Had a 4:10pm tee time and got paired with another twosome. They were a great pair and we had a wonderful time. I've golfed here a few years ago and overall I do really enjoy this course. There is a lot of trees for shade, cute little animals (bunnies, squirrels, geese, etc). The fairway, green quality is overall nicely maintained. They have carts, a driving range and a fairly nice club house as well. Overall definitely enjoy golfing here, the ground are pretty and the course a nice challenge! read more

Great, challenging course. Been hosting the Portland City Championship annually for over 100 years. Muddy in the winter, but firm in the summer. Classic tree lined design. Great staff that really take pride in the place. The restaurant staff even open the front doors, welcoming guests. I doubt you get that kind of service at Waverly CC. Eastmoreland is a muni jewel. Sure, the course could use some renovation like any old course, but they make the best out of what they got. Get out there now while the conditions are ideal. read more

Apparently they load up the back 9 up until 8am so if you have a 7am tee time and manage to play quickly you'll run into the singles and doubles they allow out on the back 9. Ran into this problem today. The people on the back golfed terribly and made the play very slow. So slow I left and asked the pro shop. They told yes they put tee times on the back until 8am. They also said yes you can run into the if you play fast. No refund or discount offered. Paid for 18 and played 9. At minimum they should have a Marshall ensuring the people are playing at pace. On June 13th, my t-time was 1:10. I arrived at 1:15. I was confused about the time. I gave the Marshall my name. He was already angry and lecturing how rude we were for showing up late. He told us to get up on the tee or our golf will be cancelled. We were aleady ready and the two some were to joined just teed off. Then he got into his cart and chased after us to hold up the twosome ahead for us to join. I am appalled at the disrespect that was shown to us. I have been golfing at this course since 1987. We are in our seventies and good golfers. We do not hold anyone up and we know golf course courtesy. To top that off the club house shorted me two dollars. Enjoyed using the driving range, but a person was loitering there, clearly not a paying customer, on the putting green, and around the clubhouse and made us quite uncomfortable. Brought my mom to her 61st class reunion that was hosted here this last weekend. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was awful. Buffet of burgers or chicken sandwiches. Everything was cold. There was a decent salad but then just a bowl of ruffles chips on the side. Cold buns, plate of cheese/tomatoes/lettuce, halfway decent beans. A cookie as dessert. I have no idea who came up with the price of $40 per person. I'm sure the reunion committee added a fee for the room, etc. But even at half the price of $20 a person it was way too much. Again, the staff was wonderful. Very nice and helpful. The food was just absolutely horrible. Felt a little bit like they are just taking advantage of older people. My sister and I were the only ones under 75ish there. I would absolutely never recommend hosting an event here. Certainly not for a demographic that might be easily taken advantage of. This group paid money for a terrible food experience. They may have enjoyed the evening, but they absolutely got ripped off on the food. read more

This is a beautiful course! We are here visiting for work and decided to get a late afternoon round in. The back 9 is so beautiful and we saw so many animals including a bald eagle! The staff was super friendly as well. The tee boxes were all very well maintained, greens are nice. For a public course, this is definitely one of the best I've played at ever. The only downside was the club rentals. We both paid extra for the premium sets and they were pretty bad. Both sets seemed to be anywhere from 5-10 years old and not in great shape. It would be worth it for the club to invest in some decent club rentals. Still giving a 5 star review since it's more about the quality of the course and this course is definitely worth playing! Great summer course. In winter it can get a bit soggy. Nice staff. Great location. Driving range could be spruced up a bit. They have a retriever that chases the geese away. They could use a few more at certain times of the year. Ha! The rhododendron garden in the middle is unique and beautiful. 3.5 stars. Got a tee time at 6:40pm and they only offered 18 holes rate. But as we were getting to the 10th hole, all the sprinklers had started and it was not even sundown yet. Played it 7/21, 550am tee time. Terrific public course for the price--fairways and greens in fine condition, and it's a course that asks questions. The starter on duty this day was a jerk; didn't point out where the first tee was (I had to go back and ask; turns out it was across the parking lot and through a tunnel) and didn't tell me anything about where to find the pullcart. Maybe he just doesn't like out of town people. After 18, I brought back the pullcart handle, he took his time finishing up a walkie-talkie communication, and there was no "how was the round" or anything. Just a hand atuck out for the handle and a silent unsmiling face. I'd play the course again; an antipathetic starter isn't going to keep me from it but today, it does cost a star. read more

I had a great round of golf at this beautiful woodsy 18 hole golf course. The guys in the pro shop are top notch but the starter seemed to have been lacking some sleep. It has been a long time coming. I have wanted to play this course for about a year now but never actually got to go out and swing the sticks at it. Today was the day. Let me tell you, I picked a great day!! The Tee time was at 12:30 and actually ended up teeing off just before that. I was playing by myself, riding a cart so I knew I was going to be a faster pace than most groups out. The front 9 was pretty crowded and packed with a couple of larger groups. That didn't bother me though. When I play by myself I expect to catch up to groups and not worry about pace of play as much. The front 9 is more of a straight shooters paradise. The fairways are skinny and the trees alongside you are unforgiving. Trust me, they like to steal your balls. The 5th hole is an elevated par three tee. I am always one to like elevated tees. This hole was probably the highlight of the front 9 for me. The back 9 feels like a completely different course. You no longer have skinny fairways lined with trees but in fact have other hazards. The 11th hole is where you truly start to see that there is going to be some water in play. The 12th is a par three that you have to hit an elevated green over water. This is where the course begins to get really fun. As you play the back 9 you remember why you play golf. Challenges, scenery, and a good time are some of the thoughts that go through your mind. All in all I would say Eastmoreland is a great course and will not disappoint. In my opinion the highlight of this course is the 17th tee where you feel as if its almost a small version of the TPC Sawgrass island green. Granted its not quite an island but gives you the same thought. I would highly recommend this course to anyone in the Portland area. Warning: I have heard from multiple sources that rainy season does not do this course good. read more

First off I want to start by saying that I have been playing this course since I got started playing golf four years ago. I grew up in the neighborhood and would come here with my family before I even started playing myself. I've loved Eastmoreland and cherished the times I've gotten to play here. That being said today (September 2 2022 at 6 pm) we were teeing off and had an interaction that has left a scar on my love for Eastmoreland. We were the last tee time of the day and my partner and I were paired with another twosome. They happened to have a cart and we had opted to walk. I proposed that they go on ahead so they don't have to wait for us seeing as they had a cart and we didn't. After they tee'd off we followed them up. As I was leaving the tee box the golf course attendant/starter (if you can even call him that) drove up and asked why we weren't moving as a group of four. I explained the situation to him, to which he immediately begin harassing me. He repeatedly asked why we weren't moving as a foursome and I explained that they had a cart and we did not. I also explained that it was the last tee time of the day so the only people being slowed down were myself and my partner. After repeating himself multiple time he finally devolved to ask me "have you ever played golf before". Not only a rude question, but he also just watched me stripe one 290 down the fairway with my hybrid (not to flex). I suppose having an ounce of logical thinking ability is not a prerequisite for a job at the golf course. The whole interaction left a bad taste in my mouth and frankly soured my round of golf (on top of that the course is in shit condition) thats to be expected though seeing as it's Portland Public Parks and late summer. It sucks because I have had countless great days at Eastmoreland, but it only takes one bad one for me to leave a review. I don't understand why someone could be so rude. He works at a golf course. In my opinion he is living the dream. Maybe my shot made him jealous or maybe he's just a bitter man but either way something should probably be done. Reading a few of these reviews it's obvious that others have had similar problems. Maybe that should be taken into account the next time employee reviews come around. There are a lot of things about this golf course that make it A-OK. First and I for one value this one there is plenty of parking. Its a great big lot with an overflow lot across the street. It seems like a normal thing now but this place had one of the first practice putting areas. Its a full size green and well maintained with plenty of holes for putting at. There are a lot of people always using it so as someone playing the course you may have to compete with others there just to put. What keeps the flow going? Well they have a practice chipping area. Also with marked holes and a full size green that you can also use to loosen up before getting to the tee. Here is the bonus here. There is a open chipping area where you can practice getting out of sand traps or hitting those 100 yard shots. You share this area so there are no rules. Its bring your own balls and shag your own balls so no guarantees. Its a great spot to warm up and get ready to start your round. I also like that there is usually an active starter. This keeps the game moving and creates the spacing that is ideal for the amateur golfer. Its not too crowded but there are a steady flow of golfers. The back nine in particular has undergone a transformation over the years. They have solved some of the drainage issues you could find on say hole 11 or 13. It is a challenging course and plenty of shot making opportunities. The front nine is home to a coyote family that can be a little frightening as you are approaching a shot say on hole 6 or 7. The back nine is pleasantly landscaped and well taken care of. Nature has supplanted man on this golf course as taking or presenting the biggest obstacles. The herds of moving geese have been knows to attempt to eat or in some cases have managed to eat golf balls. Having been around humans they are also not afraid of you or your golf ball. So, you will have to compete with them as they wander along the course. The other thing you will have to compete with is their droppings. With large numbers of geese comes large areas of droppings. The other nature issue is leaves. They are everywhere on this course. Eastmoreland is surrounded and filled with trees. The course just cant contain the amount of leaves all over the course. I am sure as soon as they attempt to collect there are just more coming. There are always deals in the pro shop like really good deals. It is not as well organized as it could be so be prepared to spend some time looking for the deal you are interested in. There is a driving range in the back and it is covered so you can golf there anytime. Kids can go and have a free bucket and a bowl of cereal. Plenty of friendly staff and a pretty good restaurant inside the clubhouse. I think their specialty is breakfast but they do okay with a burger. There are other options on the menu but I wouldnt get too fancy. There are summer BBQs with bands and entertainment. Make sure you call ahead in the summer as they can get crowded. read more

This review is for the driving range at Eastmoreland. I have yet to actually golf a round here. But the range itself is decently nice enough. Large buckets are something like $9.5 (about $1 more than our at Glendoveer), the mats are in decent shape, the pro-shop is well stocked and the clientele seem respectful enough (not like I've ever had a problem with fellow driving range clientele). The only downside to this driving range is that the top section is open - no cover. So it's not really usable in the rain. Also, they don't allow woods on the top level during daytime as it's too easy to hit over the fence on the right side of the range, which fronts up to one of the holes on the course. But honestly, it's almost as easy to sky one over the fence from the bottom level as well. In the summer it's actually kind of nice to have no cover up top so you don't feel like you're spending your summer day in some dark driving range, so I guess there's an upside on that end as well. Overall since Glendoveer is equidistant from my house I'd probably go there for basic driving range purposes. I don't have to worry about hitting over the fence and it's $1 cheaper/bucket. But for quality of facility, more options and a much more complete pro-shop, Eastmoreland wins hands-down. read more

Easily walkable, old Portland course (means plenty of old, humongous trees). A little short and narrow for long hitters...but longer than typical from the forward tees. They have done work on the greens...disease-free unlike past years. There are some water holes as the back nine wanders around the PDX Rhododendron Garden. Dry in the summer, but It can get mushy once the rains begin. Definitely a locals course...it was packed on a weekday morning. Keep pace and hopefully you won't wait too long. Decent clubhouse...plenty of bathrooms upstairs...the dining room was full with a lot of groups that weren't there to play golf so it must be good (we didn't try it). Be wary that the Yelp map gets you to the course, not quite the clubhouse (second time this has happened). Look for the sign...right after you cross over 99E. Go play golf! read more

Excellent course in SE Portland, located between the Woodstock neighborhood and Sellwood. Full Restaurant, beverage cart, and driving range. Teaching pros, banquet rooms, putting and chipping areas. It's always in great shape. Can get soggy in the winter and through March, just depends on Portland rainfall. It's a bit quirky, very challenging, and fun. Lots of trees for shade or losing your ball. Front Nine and Back Nine are very different. I think I prefer the Back Nine better for challenge and views. Prices are about $40 for walking 18-holes. $20 for Nine, I think they might offer some discounts for later twilight golf or early, early times, but check in with Pro Shop. I've had some decent paced rounds and then again, when it's high time on the Weekends, can be waiting, but that's weekend golf for you in Metro area. Pro Shop and restaurant staff are friendly and accommodating. They host a lot of tournaments, banquets, and events. Beer tap selection is very decent for a golf course. Greens can be tricky and slop-ey. A few wide fairways where you can let 'er rip. read more

I played Eastmoreland last year. It's a pretty, historic, interesting course but I'm pretty certain I'll never return. I've played literally hundreds of courses in multiple countries but Eastmoreland was the longest round I've ever played in more than 45 years of golf. If I had another SIX HOURS of free time, I would find a course I could play in 4 hours and spend the other 2 hours enjoying a nice dinner. Every time I am in Portland on business I try to get out and play a round of golf at Eastmoreland. It is located less than 25 minutes from the airport, and only 10 minutes from downtown. You can get to Eastmoreland on public transportation, but it adds significantly to your travel time. Trust me. The course itself is fun - short, but fun. The fairways are wide, but lined with low-limbed trees. While the holes are not long, they do require strategy & execution. Three of the par 5's have significant doglegs, and one of them plays over a ravine. The front nine is mostly flat, and only two holes have any elevation change to speak of. The par 3 5th is a thrilling 175 yard shot with a 60 foot drop in elevation from tee to green. The back nine wends its way around a creek and lake, and water comes into play on six of the nine holes. The two par 3's on the back nine play completely over water, and the par 3 17th is the longest 167 yards you'll likely stare down. The course has a lot of creativity in its layout, and makes the most of the land it occupies. The pro shop staff are friendly, the food in the clubhouse passable in a pinch. Greens fees are cheap, by SF standards: $24 for a weekend round. They have three levels of clubs for rent: hacker, moderate, and boo-ya. Boo-ya = Mizuno M70's with graphite shafts and run an additional $30 fee. I've always been able to walk on as a single at Eastmoreland, and have never had to wait more than 15 minutes for a tee time. Pace of play is speedy, the slowest round I've ever played was a completely self-inflicted 4.5 hours. Last time I played Eastmoreland was on a Friday afternoon: I walked on and played alone in under 3.5 hours. It is a beautiful walk filled with fun golf. Boy do I love me some golf, especially when you have a half day off from work, wife is working until 5 and the little diva is at daycare...what am I going to do for the rest of the day...golf. Yeah baby, drove up to Eastmoreland in my hot minivan, go right into the club house. Yeah, golf for one. I've never played on this course. I've driven by it on the way home but never played on it. Figured out I give it a try on my half day from work. It's not a bad looking course. I only played the front nine because that's all the time I had. I was paired up with two other people who I thought were really cool. The course for me wasn't too difficult. But the first eight holes I was playing pretty well. Than came the 9th hole. I basically crumbled from there. Drove a ball somewhere into the streets and probably dug a hole due to lack of concertration. Oh, I also overshot the green as well. So my really good half round ended up a disaster at the end. Yeah, I'm going to be that guy that blames the golf course. It's the golf courses fault that I played crummy on the 9th hole. Forget the first eight holes I played really well. Thanks Eastmoreland for making my day miserable, stupid 9th hole. Overall, the course is very well maintained. It has good drainage and overally it's not uber tough but not easy as well. There are challanging holes such as one of the par 3 holes where you on elevated tee box. Tough to see the pin, but it was really a nice hole to play. I'll come back, avenge the 9th hole...stupid hole, mess up a good round. read more

I figured why this was the only course that I could find a last minute tee time for Friday after Thanksgiving. 5 hour round with an 8:50 tee time. I'm a long time SE Portland resident and in the past, I played here regularly. Stopped playing here because of bad experiences. Only played twice in the last year and it was not good either time. Drainage in winter stinks but always has so that's not really an issue. Not sure if it has to do with the possibility that this will be the last year this management company will hold the City contract but it has gotten really bad. The time prior, I told the marshal a group ahead was two holes behind. He thanked me and drove the other way! During our last 5 hour round I asked the marshal to see what the hold up was....He checked back with us when we were on #12 and said that he just asked the group on #14 to pick it up. Nice...it took him 14 holes to find the culprit. I can't even imagine how long it would take to play 18 if you had an 11:00 am tee time. It would also be nice if they attempted to make a few improvements here or at least cleanup the debris piles all over. As much as I hate the competition for tee times, GO TO HERON LAKES. I think the range balls might be holdovers from the 1970's. I can hit about 170 with my driver...if I really spank it. The group at Eastmo really does not seem to not care at all about the course or the customer. I really hope a new management company comes in before it's too late. Okay, so it's not a "Pro" course. But Eastmoreland is challenging, fun, and has a friendly staff to keep your smile on when your game is off. The golf pros have excellent one-on-one lessons for all levels of players, and often go over their 30 minute mark to make sure you got the most of your session. Rob Charbonnier is one of the best for his extraordinary patience and ability to tell you kindly just what you're doing wrong. The driving range has two levels and is moderately priced (9 bucks for 100 balls), with staff on site that seem like they don't think they're working (in a good way). The course itself is $18 for 9 holes or $33 for 18 - not too shabby considering some places charge in triple digits. (for those of you who seem to have a case of deja vu, this post is also under "Arts and Entertainment." Maybe I forgot that it's just me that's the "entertaining artist" with the funny swing.) read more

Ok guys, I will be honest. I don't play golf. Playing golf turns me into a scary rage monster. But I went here to caddy for my friends and had an experience and want to share. The golf course itself seemed lovely. My avid-golf-playing friends seemed to like it and there were some fun holes with good distance and water and sand traps and other golf-like things, etc. The greens were well maintained and the geese were entertaining. HOWEVER. There was a guy driving around in a golf cart with a yellow "Player Assistance" sign that more or less stalked us the entire time we were out there. My friends made a 4-some, and I was there to help find wayward balls, hold the flag, carry and hold things, etc. I realize we looked big but we were staying well under the course-mandated 15-minute per hole time limit. But Yellow Sign Guy tried to hustle us along no less than 3 times. In one instance he actually slowed us down with a lecture about how to speed up! We were basically waiting for the people in front of us to move the entire time and here was Yellow Sign Guy, creeping right next to us in his golf cart. It was weird. To top it off, Yellow Sign Guy tried to make small talk with me at the end of our day in the parking lot... after creeping up behind me in the mostly silent golf cart and scaring me silly. I'm sure he is, in reality, a very nice person but I think his "player assistance" tastics might have been a tad aggressive that day. In conclusion, fine golf course, but maybe don't make eye contact with the people with yellow signs on their golf carts. read more

This is a terrific course with the old line design characteristic of courses build at the turn of the last century. Unlike the gimmicky designs of newer courses this course follows the natural contours of the land. Unfortunately I only played the back nine but here is my thoughts on the course. Tee Boxes and Bunkers: Most are in good shape although a few are beat up. The general conditions are fairly good for a muni. Fairways: Again in decent shape with some bare areas. Greens: The greens are perfect. It is hard to believe given the amount of play the course gets that they have greens in pristine condition. The greens all have very subtle breaks which makes putting a challenge. Most of the greens are surprising large. Layout: Excellent and interesting layout. The 13th hole is a beast. The drive is visually intimidating with a long drive uphill that you need to draw or at least hit straight favoring the middle left of the fairway. The second shot requires carry over a waste area. The third shot is to a green protect by bunkers on the right and a swale in front. The 17th par 3 hole is picture perfect. You need to hit the ball about 170 from the tips over a pond. There is a bailout on the right for the faint of heart. This is a fantastic hole. Finally the par 18th is a long 457 yard hole from the tips. Nice finishing hole. I look forward to playing the course again; seeing the front nine this time. read more

This golf course is not nice. I paid extra for a premium rental set that included a Wilson putter... Also the premium golf clubs I paid for were not made in the past 10 years. Half of the holes you have a ridiculous dog leg and I feel like I'm playing at an amusement park rather than a golf course. Additionally I feel like I'm playing on concrete and I can't even put my tee in the ground and good golf shots here will end up out of bounds. The biggest issue with this awful golf course is that it's hard. Let's think about this, a shitty golf course, with bad players, that's hard... you tell me the result. read more

In the summer this place is premium, on the top deck you can get a beer, sun bathe and enjoy hitting your golf ball farther than you normally would lower to the ground. When we were there the golf clubs' head flew off and into the grass area of the driving range--and the staff was really great at helping, and having everyone stop hitting, so he could go out there and retrieve them. Out of all the city courses, I enjoy Eastmoreland the most. It has an old-school feel to it from the course to the clubhouse. It's a beautiful layout and being right in the middle of SE Portland by the Sellwood area, it's a great location. It's definitely tough for those of us with the occasional (ok, more than just occasional) errant shot, as the trees can eat a lot of balls. Just make sure you bring a few extra and you don't mind leaving with less balls than you came with. As far as the food goes, it's good solid clubhouse fare. I had the burger last time I was there and it was pretty tasty, with good fresh, hot fries. I also really like the driving range, especially in the summer as it's open until 10PM then. read more
