Your run-of-the-mill, dive bar that's an Oly institution. It has a solid mix of pros & cons, but on the whole I find it rather sub-par and fairly depressing each time I visit. Pros: -Average price for drinks -Great selection of beers and cider -In downtown Oly -The pizza window -Games in the back (pool, ping pong, air hockey, some arcade games) Cons: -Cash only -Dirty (check out the layer of dust on the ping pong table and arcade games) -Too few staff (often only have 1 bartender so the wait can be long) -Outdated. The Eastside club is one of the first bars featuring only craft beer in Washington state. Located in downtown Olympia the giant lineup up almost all local product is incredible. It's also affordable. These are not Seattle pints meaning five dollars for 14 ounces, Micro Monday and Thirsty Thursday are three dollars for a 16 ounce pint. Great beer and fun people in a great bar. What a fun bar in Olympia. I've been to Eastside a few times and have loved every experience I've had. They have a large selection of beers at a reasonable price. Eastside has shuffle board, pool tables and ping pong. They offer plenty of seating including high tables and booths. The atmosphere is very casual and the employees are helpful. For food, you can order through a hole in the wall from the place next door (Our Table). They have really delicious food and specials. My favorite bar ever. I have yet to find a bar in Seattle that has the vibe that this place has. Yea, I went to Evergreen. Yea, I'm a proud Geoduck. Buuut, I'm not a dirty hippie. I'm one of those respectable ones that has a job and now lives in the land of yuppies. Anyway, I digress... When I was in college this was THEE spot on Thursday nights. I'm sure it still is since they still do specials that night and Evergreen still doesn't have classes on Fridays. After I graduated, I would still stop here after work pretty much every night. And when I visit Oly, this is always on the list. What I love about this place is that you can come in and just post up and read a book. Sure, people might stop and talk to you, but that's why its awesome--its a real community space. This really is the mecca of micro brews and they make sure to keep it real northwest. They have brewer's nights every so often and I've gotten to meet the whole Dick's Brewing Team out of it. Top notch to get wasted on Double Diamond served to you by the people that make it. And the main bartender, Andy has been there since the dawn of time. Although he's quite ruggedly handsome and youthful in appearance, I'm sure he has a wealth of stories. He's always sweet as pie and actually recognizes me when I come in. That's really incredible. Plus, legend has it that my parents came here after announcing their engagement. Yea, they're divorced now, but I'm sure I was drawn to their romantic aura. Heh. Anyway, this place has got history. And you can still do your laundry in back and smoke a joint in the alley. When living in Oly this place is what I considered a laundromat attached to a bar that smells sort of like.. a block of wood that had been soaked in beer. That probably sounds like a weird comparison, oh well. The laundry facilities really should be kept up better. Like, making sure there is never more than 1 washer or dryer broken down. I LOVE the variety of local-area microbrew at this place, they always have a few irresistable ones on tap. I like the crowd that comes to this place, down to earth and good vibes. I don't think I can remember ever seeing a fight break out here. I usually like the live music they have here but when bands are setting up, or playing, they don't let you use the laundry. Which I think sucks, I guess they think it would be lame if people are watching a band and then see some dude walking behind them with a sack of laundry. We asked about food and he simply said "there's a window over there where you can order." 10 minutes later when a couple of locals asked about food, all of a sudden there was a new menu, available in print for them, which was worth discussion... The place began to change just before Agnes died. Now it's more of a pizza restaurant than a poolhall dive. Why Marilyn doesn't just knock out that wall and combine the two is beyond me. This is one of those places you walk into for the first time and instantly crave becoming a regular. 36 local beers on tap, friendly (and extremely knowledgeable) bartenders, a huge number of interesting bottles and cans available -- I want to go back. Basically, this place is like a combination of two of my favorite bars -- Naked City in Seattle for the selection and variety, and The Duchess in Seattle for the atmosphere and prices. The place is low key, has lots of pool tables and wood furniture...and is CHEAP. $3.00 pints of microbrews during happy hour, $3.50 during regular hour?? The mecca of micro and craft beers from the pacific Northwest and beyond! A small selection of wine. Good prices. Mondays and Thursday nights used to be $2 a pint a few years back. Probably more expensive now but if it's under $4 a drink it's still a good deal! They feature a lot of the Dick's brewing beers (from Centralia, WA; really good brewery by the way), they feature Lagunitas and Stone from CA and a few of the good Oregon microbreweries. The staff is really friendly and will gladly help you in selecting a beer if you tell them what you like. Just don't ask for a Bud Light...you'll piss them off, and for good reason. No liquor so don't ask for that either. The crowd really sucks and sometimes lame hippie jam bands play there, but the beer is the draw. read more

I have lived here a couple of months now and this is by far my fave spot right now. I love dive bars and this one is top notch. Tons of beers on tap and rotation and the bartenders actually know what they are talking about when it comes to micro brews. Good laid back vibe with a lot of bar type games as mentioned in others reviews. I have read some people complaining about food or lack there of. This is strictly a beer bar. They do have a little window where you can order some pizza by the slice but honestly, if you come here, do not expect to find anything other then a great selection of quality beers. I will concede the point that the main bartender (not sure if he is also the owner) is a bit of a grumpy pants. But once you start talking to him you realize he is really passionate about craft beers and is very knowledgeable. Just mention vaguely what kinds of flavors or style you like and he will throw out about 5 suggestions like nothing. I go to Olympia and can listen to Rancid's Olympia WA on the juke box while enjoying a crazy ,mad selection of beers on tap. All local, well mostly, and all great! This place is awesome. Was here while biking through town and met some cool peeps, played some sweet tunes on the jukebox (including Rancid) watched the Mariners game on a flat screen, saw a fight out front on the street (the bartender Andy said this is rare though I thought it was cool!) drank some great local Hefe and Pilsners and watched lovely babies play pool and ping pong.... If you are a beer nerd, there is no other place to go in Olympia. The Eastside has by far the best selection of craft beers in town. It is not the largest selection - P & Q in the mall actually has 60 beers on tap - but you will get beers at the Eastside that are extremely hard to find. They focus on Northwest and west coast breweries, and they also seem to have a talent for getting beers that are virtually unavailable beyond the brewpub where they are produced. In the past year I have had 6 different Russian River beers at the Eastside. Then again, if that means anything to you, you probably already go there. The Philly cheese steaks at the Clubside Cafe (the window) are the best I've had in the area. Try one wit onions and cheese whiz. No peppers. Oh yeah, and the Eastside's prices are lower than 90% of the other bars in the area. read more

This is a total dive bar, but it is the inspiration for Mo's Tavern in the Simpsons, so how can you not give this place a try. The bartender was really awesome and friendly and very knowledgeable about all of the brews on tap. They have a great microbrew selection, especially those hard to find rare craft brews. This is my personal favorite place to drink downtown. CASH ONLY with an ATM inside. Eastside has a relaxed, cozy atmosphere inside. A full row of stools, booths, and long row tables give you seating options for any group size. They have the classic rows of used tap handles on display up top, and a whole bunch of beer tin tapers and local arts and events up on the walls. Feels very craft beer and local community focused. The beer selection is reliable and varied with frequent brewers nights and tap takeovers, definitely enough to please any craft beer fan. Their taps are broken up into three categories: a dozen plus $4.50 craft taps, ten or so $5 craft taps, and another ten or so specialty craft taps. The specialty taps include barrel-aged beers and sours, among other rare beers. They also offer varying cider (6), wines ($6), pitchers ($16 or $18), and various tall boys, bottles, and bombers ($7). You can get a tall boy of Olympia or Rainer for $2. Water is up front near the door and they usually have free, fresh popcorn. Happy hour is 4-7 every day with the $4.50 beers costing only $4. Happy hour is also all day on every Monday and Thursday. There are a couple of TVs that play sports or old Star Trek reruns, but the bartenders are always happy to put them on whatever. In the back they have five pool tables, ping pong, and shuffle board. Pool is a couple of bucks per hour and you have to leave your ID at the counter. If you're hungry you can order food from next door. In fact, there's a window in the back of the bad that connects directly to it! They offer a lot of variety including vegan options. So I wandered into this place looking for lunch. What I found was a huge offering of micro-brews but, strangely, no food (aside from snack bags of chips). Another curiosity I couldn't help noticing was the total absence of women. Not something I was looking for, but hard to ignore (I don't think I've ever been in a bar/pub/tavern that did not have one single woman in it). It makes sense, though; Eastside Club is essentially a man cave. There is the tough-looking English bulldog wondering around, dark wood paneled walls, even darker stone floors, a big, dark-bearded bartender, a dark pool area, and an extremely bright flat panel TV over the bar. I've decided there are two kinds of businesses in Olympia: those that survive the time between legislative sessions by catering to the state worker crowd, and those that survive the time between legislative sessions by catering to the Evergreen College/unemployed bum crowd. And nothing against Eastside, but they are clearly in the latter category. If I lived in Olympia, I would definitely go back after work someday to try out their magnificent collection of micro brews--but not before running home to change into jeans and a T-shirt. read more

Despite living in Oly for almost a year, I only came here for the first time a few weekends ago. And I have to say, I really liked it. This place is a no frills bar with an amazing selection of beer on tap and in the bottle. The bartender was really friendly, and ended up chatting with us for a while in between serving other patrons. I was very impressed that they carried such a wide variety of GOOD microbrews and from what I hear, this is VERY common. Best part?! Their drink prices are very reasonable, so you can enjoy various beers without having to break the bank! All in all, this is a classic bar with an upgraded selection of beer and a laid back atmosphere. Nice. Very laid back, lots of couples which is nice. We ordered a pizza (that was a 4 also) through the window, sat at the bar and had a couple of beers. The bartender wasn't overly friendly but, after trying the nitro tap twice, poured me another stout. Later, I heard him telling others that he didn't recommend the stout on nitro because it wasn't pouring well. Good work! Nice place to just hang out. The Eastside has quickly become my husband and I's go-to spot when we just want to get out of the house and grab a quick beer. The beer list is impressive, great prices, lots of local offerings, and the bartenders are super helpful in helping you select one based on your typical beer preferences. We have been quite a few times but only recently tried their food...I have no idea if this is new or if we just had no idea the food window was back there but it only gave us another reason to love Eastside! I got an amazing romaine lettuce salad with fresh seared tuna on top and my husband got the poutine with house-made cheese curds. They were amazing! We could not believe this was bar food.
