Dishonest unprofessional and aggressive. AAA tow my car to this mechanic after setting the appointment. I called to confirm that the car arrived. The owner said yes but we haven't gotten to it yet and hung up on me. Fine. The car arrived. I showed up the following morning as there were no further updates. Guess what the car wasn't there. I was confused because the owner had confirmed it was there the day before. When I stated this the owner Art began screaming at me and cutting me off. I was not rude I was just confused this man treated me with such contempt it was unreal. Art the owner literally kicked me and my friend off his lot and was very aggressive with zero provocation. It turns out that there's another repair shop with an owner named art and my car was towed there. This mistake happens often. I don't know why the owner of Arts repair shop could not say it may have been towed to the other Art and that he misspoke when he said my car had arrived at his shop ???? No need to take your violent temperament on a confused customer. So outrageous so aggressive. Not called for. read more

Was having an issue with my car, stopped by and spoke to John and he couldn't have been nicer and more welcoming. :) He and Art then came out, looked at my car to determine there was no issue and it was just my air conditioner and not the transmission (as I was originally thinking). I'm sad because I moved and bought a Chevy Bolt, so I can't go to Art's anymore, as they specialize in Japanese cars and are also 50 miles away now. They are the best, totally honest and reliable. They did all repairs and maintenance on our Honda Accord, Toyota Highlander, and Scion xA for over 15 years. Lute is great, as are other mechanics. It will be hard to find a shop that I trust as much. I am happy that I've gone to electric vehicle, but will miss Art's for real. Like actually miss our car mechanic! Who even says that. After my 2004 Toyota's Corolla's manual transmission literally disintegrated (for reasons unknown), I had it towed to Art's. He explained all the factors to me in choosing what to replace in the clutch, and showed me the wear on the various components. He worked promptly and got a used transmission for it, which he installed with a new clutch. However used transmissions are always a gamble, and this one turned out to have a problem in one of the gears. It drove, but didn't shift right. The bad replacement transmission obviously wasn't Art's fault, but he would have to incur the expense of removing and replacing it. A less scrupulous mechanic would have tried to persuade me to keep the replacement transmission so he wouldn't have to pay for replacing it, but Art never did. He admitted the replacement transmission had a problem and never hesitated to replace it. It's now over a year later and the replacement transmission is running fine. I'm late in writing this review, but I was impressed with Art and his crew. I don't want to go any longer without writing a review giving them credit for a job well done. read more

Well, my wife and I used to be customers here. Not any more. I took my vehicle in for a specific problem to be repaired. When I picked up my vehicle I wrote a check for almost $900. Then when I got in to drive away I got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. The problem had not been fixed. I got out and asked Art about it. He said that they could put it up on the rack and take a look at it. Eek! Methinks not. I took the vehicle to another shop and they fixed the problem right away and they also fixed my heater blower which was something that Art's Auto could not. They charged me $186.00. $900.00 for repairs that I did not ask for, incredible. $186.00 for repairs that I asked Art to do, reasonable. As another example of how Art and his team care about their customers, I give you this example: I had purchased several parts that needed to be installed by knowledgeable classic car mechanics and then needed to leave my car at Art's for several days to give them time to install everything. Art was so concerned about the security of my classic muscle car, which is somewhat unique (a black on black convertible), that he not only locked my car inside his garage every night but actually put my car keys inside his office safe so no one could steal my car (this, after already recommending that I purchase wheel locks, a separate steering wheel lock, a center console lock, and an electronic security system). read more

I have used Lexus in SF, Toscolitos, Toyota and Subaru dealer repair in the Bay Area and Art's hits the nail on the head every time. I brought in both my car and my daughter's car for repairs, and so far, they've never charged us a dime. My daughter's Jeep Cherokee overheated b/c the fan had stopped working. John diagnosed the problem, pointing it out to her and explaining how it happened, and what to do if it happened again. He got the fan going again in minutes while she watched, and didn't charge a thing. She said she'd bring it back if it became a problem. It never did. I left my VW there overnight. It had huge issues with what turned out to be the electronic door key. Everything was going nuts: windows opening by themselves, the car beeping incessantly while i drove it, the doors locking repeatedly all on their own. First, John figured out a way to finesse the key in the lock to get the car to stop behaving this way, temporarily. (I'd already tried this and failed, but he had a finer touch than I) Then, they called the VW dealer to get a price on a new key system. They called and told me that ultimately, it would be cheaper for me just to take my car directly to the dealer for this repair, since they'd have to mark up the key. For this work, they didn't charge a thing. Both Art and John are easy-going and kind (and i'm not some young babe, either, btw, so it's not that). I'm a true fan of Art's now. It's not as convenient to my job as some other shops, but if ever i can, i'll bring my car here. read more

My friend said this business is very friendly and efficient but he didn't tell me how honorable and honest these guys are. Brought my car in for a second quote since the first repair shop quoted me $1500. To my surprise Art only quoted me $425. Not only did the guys fix my car in a timely manner, they even cleaned the exterior and interior for free! Also, I noticed how happy these guys are. My car died. It was the starter and I really needed my car to be repaired quickly, and my mechanic of 20 years moved away. I called a couple of local shops friends told me about but they could not repair the car for a couple of days. Then I called Art's, and not only could they get and install a new starter today, but they were also the lowest price of the three places I spoke with. No brainer. But then there was a hiccup. The starter install went fine, but the engine did not start. After some head scratching, they thought that perhaps the key I gave them had a problem with its chip. So they sent someone to my house to pick up a second key. That wasn't the trick, but they did figure out how to resolve the problem shortly thereafter, and then sent someone again to my house to pick me up to get my car. All that extra work, plus two trips to my house, and they didn't charge me a penny more than the original estimate. And they were darned nice and cheerful guys. My new mechanics! read more
