It was an absolute joy. I would've recommend this to anyone. Even the trails that were rocky that go outback through the woods we did on a street bike no problem. They seem to be very well-maintained trails. At one point you had the super long bridge that goes over a swampy area, which is really cool too. On the way up on the trail, we saw a turtle crossing the trail on the way back. We saw but I assume is the same turtle taking a hole with his back legs. I don't know why I spent my whole life going to the Jersey shore. You drive an extra hour. You could come down here and have a super nice beach that's not packed and the super nice trails that you can bicycle too.

He introduced us to the owner of the lavender farm that we stopped at and she was also amazing as she told us the history and the layout of the farm. In fact, when I pulled into the parking area I wasn't sure where to park as there are signs stating something about permits. I will say, and this is my only gripe about this place, is the price of admission. I think it's a bit high for what you are getting. But I guess you need to pay the bills for this. This place kind of takes you back in time. See, back before this area had roads connecting to each other and when shipping was a huge thing, they had to have patrols that would make sure everything was ok. These patrols would head out to save people on the high seas when the high seas were less than cooperative. Kind of a precursor of the Coast Guard. This location is on the National Registry of Historic Places. This was a quick museum visit, but that is partly because I was impatient and didn't want to use the video tour. They do have a tour where you call in and type in a code for an exhibit and it would give you the information, but you can also read a lot of it within on the information placards next to the items. Points of interest is the house itself, living quarters, equipment used and the highlight is the access to the beach. It's amazing to think that men, year after year, would come here and serve time protecting people. It was some really tight quarters and they never knew what the seas might hold for them. Tip, be careful if you head out to the beach. I had taken my sandals off to walk into the sand and something jabbed my toe. That made for a quick return for me. Before you do head back get a look at the view. It is beautiful.

There is a number you can dial to hear a narration about a specific object or area of the house as you walk thru. The gift shop is full of lovely trinkets and they have bathrooms, which is very convenient for roadtrippers like myself. Great for everyone but small kids will need to be watched to ensure they don't grab and break anything, and that they don't fall down the narrow staircase.

I've gotten awesome service from them - whether it's booking a lesson last minute, or asking for a touring yak pre-seasons. Their little shop is adorable and in a perfectly serene location right on the bay. I can't tell you how much this counts for me - city docks and slips are just un-fun and their shop feels like my favorite put-in back home. They are both experienced paddlers and chatting with them is just like chatting with any of the sea kayakers in my paddle club. The Lil-Ass Bay (I'm sorry, I just can't help it) is also a great paddling spot ! With extremely limited boat traffic, and a refuge to it's north, kayaks can relax a bit and focus on observing the wildlife without having to keep their head on a pivot for speeding boaters and fishermen. These same reasons also make it a great place to take sailing lessons and let the wind carry you a bit. I have to admit that I've never actually paid attention to the prices ahead of time. You can tell when you're dealing with Jen, Mitch, or any of their helpers that they are going to be fair and reasonable. So I've always just gone out, come back when I wanted to, and paid and every single time I've been happily surprised at the price. Even the sailing lesson was more affordable than I expected. Paddling here is like paddling with a friend. Will definitely be back on this trip and many future ones. Quite side note about sailing, yes, they do have some rules about sailing as another review posted - not being able to jibe can be a little bit annoying sometimes when you really just want to run or reach down a bit, but it allows them to keep the sailing accessible and affordable to more people, which is important. Can't wait to get back out there again.

This time I rented two double kayaks for 1 hour at $30 each or $60 total. I also rented one single kayak for one hour or $20. Our total cost was $80 for two doubles and one single kayak in total. This time we traveled south in the bay since the current was moving North. That made it easier for us to kayak back to the kayak base. We returned within one hour. I also purchased a Coastal Kayak hoodie for $40. We agreed we will return here again.
