Chef Teri and my cute husband in our kitchen
    Cindy G.

I don't have enough good things to say about Chef Teri! I contacted her to inquire about doing a team event with my direct reports, and she came to my house to do a cooking lesson with 7 of us. Everyone had the best time, and the food was incredible. Chef Teri was super responsive from my first email, and she made the booking process easy. I had my team peruse sample menus on the Eatsies site, and we landed on grilled flatbreads with homemade ricotta and strawberry napoleon. The grilled flatbreads can be done with figs, but they weren't in season, so Chef Teri instead showed us how to make the delicious Piatti's garlic dip. Chef arrived with everything we needed (all ingredients as well as equipment). She started off the class by showing us some basic knife skills, and she shared good stories, tips, and tricks throughout the entire lesson. She was great about ensuring each of us got to try out every step so that we would really learn how to make each recipe. The combo of the grilled flatbread with the homemade ricotta (SO good!) and the garlic dip (almost like a chimichurri) was scrumptious! The strawberry napoleon was fun to assemble, beautiful, and delicious. That vanilla lemon whipped cream was *chef's kiss! We all got to enjoy the fruits of our labor right then, and we had some leftovers to send home with people. I think each of us have already made at least one of the recipes again already. The garlic dip is also an excellent marinade on any kind of meat. The entire experience was just perfect. Teri is incredibly fun and engaging, she makes recipes and techniques easy to understand and execute on, and the final product was so good. We will absolutely do more with Chef Teri in the future, and I would recommend Eatsies to everyone!

I'm so glad that I booked a class with Chef Teri! It was everything I hoped for from easy booking and prompt communication to a wide variety of class recipe options to actively including all group members in the lesson and practicing hands-on skills to giving tips and thorough "why" explanations. Because of our group of 8, Chef Teri came to our location and was completely prepared with all ingredients and cooking/prep utensils. We had so much fun learning together, and the food was delicious! Class menu: focaccia bread art, pad kee mao (drunken noodles), and strawberry Napoleons‍ Chef Teri made working with the yeast for the focaccia bread and with the thin phyllo dough so approachable! I'm not as intimidated by them as I used to be and can't wait to try more recipes using those ingredients.

Chef Teri is a new favorite and truly delivered a stellar experience for us! My husband and I already cook and bake quite a lot, so we asked Chef Teri to help us with items we haven't made before such as homemade pasta and homemade pies. I can now say that I am no longer intimidated by making homemade pasta or pies, and everyone who tried the food we took home said it was insanely delicious and asked for us to make more soon! My son is now addicted to homemade pasta and sauce, it's requested often now, and the family is asking for more cherry pies ASAP This is one of my favorite things that we have done as a couple. There was no limit to the wealth of information, tips and tricks, and Teri is an absolutely enthusiastic teacher who loves her profession Unlike other cooking "classes" that you take with 20+ people and don't really master the item, this was an entirely intimate, dedicated attention and hands-on session in a home kitchen. There are many menu options to choose from, enough that we're planning our next date menu already. This was a lovely experience and we had so much fun. PS- Make sure you bring LOTS of takehome containers, we had enough for multiple meals.

Hands down the best cooking experience we have ever had! Teri is personable, informative, patient, and made sure everyone was involved! We learned so much and had a lovely time. We would highly recommend this experience! You can pick any three dishes from her website and she will get the ingredients. Thank you so much, Teri!

I hired Chef Teri for a cooking class as a team-building event for my team. She was wonderful - full of knowledge and so fun to cook with! She came to my home and brought absolutely everything we needed to prepare a gourmet French meal. We enjoyed every minute of it! Can't wait to do it again!

My wife got this for my birthday and it was a blast. I've taking other cooking classes but Teri's class was by far the best. We felt comfortable right away and she made it so easy. HIGHLY recommend Eatsies in La Jolla. Thank you Teri

We had the best time in Teri's class! Not only did we learn great recipes, but she also took the time to teach us helpful cooking techniques. This is hands down the best cooking class I have ever taken!

We had the absolute best time cooking with Teri! She was so patient with us and we had so much fun as a group of 4! We cooked gnocchi, cornbread stuffing, and bao buns (3 of the most random dishes!!) and she found a way to seamlessly weave them all together into a delightful cooking course! Highly recommended as a gift or for you to enjoy with friends!

Visiting my parents for the summer from New York, it's sometimes challenging to figure out family activities for everyone to take part in and have a good time. So for a belated Father's Day gift, I stumbled onto Teri's website and thought it looked way better and homier than going to a corporate cooking class with a large group. Right away, Teri was very flexible in working with us, and even though she usually ends her days by 6PM, she was willing to start later for us and go all the way until 7:30PM, which we really appreciated! I don't want to take that part for granted, knowing that was out of her normal schedule. I chose the following dishes from her menu to cook: Homemade Pizza Dough Mushroom, Caramelized Onion & Gruyere Galette Chocolate Lava Cakes Teri was very helpful and patient with me as I chose the dishes, recommending not to have 3 labor intensive dishes since my original 3 choices were not going to fit in our allotted 3 hour time slot. I was also nervous about picking these dishes, since my mom is a really good cook herself, so she knows a lot of dishes. But everyone was super impressed with all the dishes, especially the galette! My parents had never heard of it before, which was a great bonus haha. Honestly, the three hours flew by. Teri was amazing at planning the whole time out, making sure there was never any dead time. Since there were different items going in and out of the oven, I was wondering if there were gonna be moments where we had nothing to do, but Teri was always two steps ahead, knowing what we could do to work in parallel. It was probably the most efficient 3 hours of my life lol. Our whole family could tell how much work Teri had to do beforehand to go shopping and prep all the ingredients/tools for us ahead of time. And we also noted that after we leave, the kitchen is a mess, so that means Teri has to also spend time cleaning up for us afterwards too. So even though our time there at her house is 3 hours, she puts in way more time to make the whole experience come together. We loved being at her home too, seeing the home picture frames and hearing stories about her daughters. It felt so natural, like visiting a friend. The entire house and kitchen are beautifully decorated, but not stuffy like a professional kitchen. Teri was very gracious to us when we dropped ingredients on the floor or countertop, so that only added to the friendliness and warmth of the time. After we left, we saw that Mt. Soledad is literally just a stone's throw away, so we made a trip out of that too! I didn't even mention how just driving to Teri's house is really fun, with all the views and hills you get to drive through. Thanks Teri!

I planned a surprise cooking class for my wife and Teri was a joy to work with! From the initial interaction via email, she was very attentive, timely, and responsive to all my questions regarding food allergies. We had a blast from the beginning to end! The food was amazing, fresh, and so much fun to make. We will be returning in the future! Highly recommend.

Teri was wonderful and the food was delicious using ingredients from her garden. We did the focaccia art, Tom kha, and drunken noodle. Very fun with a few friends

    Making empanadas
    Kristine B.

Making empanadas with my aunts was such a fun experience (here they are shaping the dough). Teri is a great teacher, so patient and encouraging. She had a gorgeous kitchen space for us to practice making foods we wouldn't have attempted on our own, with tips and tricks for proper cutting and cooking that even I, who cooks regularly for my family, had not learned before. Now I know to sharpen my knives more regularly and how to properly cut vegetables like carrots and onions! Plus had a fabulous social time with my family members and Teri who is so friendly.

    Fruit tart with cheesecake filling
    Bonnie L.

My boyfriend gifted me a class this year after he had a great experience with Chef Teri pre-pandemic. For Covid precautions, she wore a mask the whole time. She hosted us and our two siblings last week. All of the ingredients and equipment were well prepared for our chosen dishes (I'm vegetarian so I chose shakshuka, beet/lentils burgers, and fruit cheesecake). It was incredibly difficult to choose from her extensive menus. During the class, we all felt very taken care of and found Teri's tips and information very helpful. She made the evening feel very special, for example, adding a candle to the tart when she learned my birthday was coming up soon. The kitchen smelled sooo good throughout the cooking process and we were very eager to taste the fruits of our labor. And we were not disappointed. Remember to bring plenty of containers to bring leftovers home!! We also got to take the recipes home, so I'll be trying to make these dishes myself. I will definitely be considering going back and/or gifting others a class. Thank you Teri!!!

    Do you teach cake decorating/sculpting?

Hi Denise! I’m sad to say that standard cake decorating, using piping bags and icing, is something I’m really not great at. ☹️. I can teach you how to make most any type of cake, but I tend to decorate using chocolate or fresh flowers. Hope that…

I checked you calendar and couldn't find any available dates for April or May. Is that accurate? Also, can let me know how much the classes are.

Hello! I'm sorry about that, but I just looked at the calendar on my website and it shows 6 available dates in April, and several more dates in May. Are you sure you're on the correct calendar? My website is www.EatsiesLaJolla.com…

Are these classes one night only?

Hi Debra, My classes typically run about three hours. They can be held during the day or at night, although I’m usually more available in the daytime. You can take just one…

Unfortunately, the baking program did not provide the foundation I expected. We did not have proper instruction in basic sanitation, food safety, knife skills, or kitchen safety, which I found to be a major red flag. This should be emphasized from the beginning. I also noticed poor practices regarding cross-contamination and uniform hygiene that were not addressed. I did learn a few things during my time in the program, but overall, I felt like I was mostly thrown into the kitchen and expected to figure things out as I went. Having only one instructor responsible for everything made it difficult to receive the individual attention, instruction, and attention to detail that students need. There were times when I felt like I was not receiving a proper culinary education or learning the professional terminology and techniques that I should have been learning. The teacher would also often leave the class because he didn't buy the ingredients we need or the ingredients we had were expired. I entered this program excited to build a strong foundation in baking and develop the skills necessary to work professionally in the culinary industry. Unfortunately, the education and structure I experienced did not meet those expectations. I believe the program needs stronger instruction in sanitation, food safety, kitchen safety, foundational techniques, professional terminology, and proper industry standards. Overall, my experience was disappointing, especially considering how excited I was to finally begin my culinary education.

I was extremely disappointed we didn't actually cook anything. Everyone was very nice but my expectations for a $100 + cooking class per person were not met considering we didn't cook anything. Same with the bao buns. At no point were the porcupine meatballs even a thing. They were made prior, mentioned, and put on our plates. Everything was made in advance. So I paid to fill wonton wrappers and get printed out recipes I could find online. Also, we weren't even going to get to stuff the bao buns. They were going to have a group of people do each thing - 1 to stuff the buns and the other crab Rangoon except I said I wanted to do the buns too so everyone got to do a couple. They should be more forthcoming about what this "cooking class" entails. It's not actually cooking.
