TLDR: A $$-$$$ quality sushi restaurant in Union Square. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so you may end up waiting a bit for a table on a busy night, but they do have a very long sushi bar in you have a smaller party. The food was great and it came out fast, but the service was very slow and inattentive. We got one appetizer, three special rolls (~17 per roll) and one traditional roll. Ebi offers traditional rolls like spicy tuna or California but they don't list them on the website. What we ate: - Ebi Shumai (steamed). These dumplings came with a spicy wasabi that was so good I put it on my sushi instead of the regular wasabi! - Crazy Maki: If you like spicy tuna rolls, this is a must get! - Crispy Tuna Maki: Just a spicy tuna roll - Somerville Maki: This was repetitive to the Crazy Maki, so I wouldn't get them both. We prefered Crazy over Somerville. - Miso Salmon: This is a must get! Seems like a unique special to Ebi. Worst food poisoning of my life from this place. Bathrooms were also unsanitary now that i think about it. Never going back. Had dinner here 2/7 and was sick for 4 days after. Checked there reviews and 5 other groups were sick. To make matters worse i checked again today 2/12 to see a new review saying someone got sick on 2/10. Every time I am in the area I make sure to head to Ebi. Omakase is now $58, still a great value. The salmon miso roll is my favorite roll. Not a traditional one like I usually like but the combo of their soy miso paste and torched salmon is addictive. My only complaint is the high prices on the small sake bottles, but I guess they need to make money somewhere if their food is on the affordable side. read more

I am honestly itching to come back here - the sushi was fresh, refreshing, and reasonably priced. We ordered the chicken karaage, the 5 piece sashimi, the Naruto roll, and the scorpion roll. The sashimi was fresh and the pieces were much bigger than I anticipated :) the Naruto roll is wrapped in cucumber and contains tuna, salmon, and avocado. The cucumber wrap made it so light and refreshing! The food did take a little longer than usual to come out (maybe 20 min) but it was a busy Saturday evening. We brought a party of 5 for lunch on Sunday 5/18/25. Our guests had told us that Ebi Sushi Bar was exceptional, and they were correct. Our server, Gifty, was attentive, courteous, and prompt with each course that we had. We opened with the Sushi, ordering Cooked Eel, Avocado roll, California roll, Blue Dragon roll, Shrimp Tempura roll, and Sweet Potato roll. The crispy eel was a favorite at the table, and we all enjoyed the others. The seaweed salad was a good portion, and both the Veggie Tempura and the Veggie Gyoza were fun to share. All the tempura was lightly battered and delicious with no oily aftertaste. We then shared 2 orders of Chicken Teriyaki, which came with soup, rice, broccoli, and delicious noodles. The chicken was crisp and (once again) light. Along with non-alcoholic drinks, the meal, tip included, was about $36/person, a real value. You get 14 pcs of nigiri (of your choice) AND a special roll so we got the Miso Salmon Roll which is this crispy California roll with torched salmon on top and black truffle mayo (I love salmon). For the nigiri, we got a bunch of salmon and some yellowtail as well and the salmon was so fresh and fatty. I was savoring each piece Crazy Maki ($15) 4.5/5 I liked this roll as well! You get the crispy shrimp tempura inside with tuna on top can't go wrong Overall, I've only came here once. Ebi, I love your sushi. The quality of each piece is always fresh and consistent. All of your specials are amazing and delicious. The staff is so friendly and you finally have parking! You are a superstar that deserves all 5 stars...but my latest attempt to venture to you disappointed me greatly. We were planning to celebrate a birthday with a large group of 10 on a Wednesday night and was turned away sadly because they didn't want to accommodate our large group. We called 1-2 weeks in advance to make this reservation but was told that it will be busy and they cannot and won't accommodate us...they were not fully booked at all by the way. They said our group was too big and just didn't want us. Instead, they recommended us book their private room which had a minimum spend of $50 per person which means a minimum of $500 for our party. I didn't think we would reach the $500 minimum spend so we had no other option but to go elsewhere. $50 per person would be doable if everyone in our party drinks but not everyone does so it wasn't an option for us to spend that much. This was probably the only bad experience I've had with them...I still love their sushi but I just can't commit to giving them all the stars. read more

One of my favorite regular sushi restaurants in Metro Boston. Quality fish, great kitchen dishes, sushi rice is properly seasoned, nice staff, Jose (owner/head sushi chef is excellent) free parking in the Dunkin' lot next door, and the prices are very reasonable (no more expensive than your typical sushi restaurant, which isn't anywhere near as good). My only complaint is that if you order additional food and aren't sitting at the sushi bar, it seems to go to the bottom of the queue, which leaves you sitting around and waiting for that food to arrive so you can leave. With that said, this is a miniscule complaint for a japanese restaurant which is stellar. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening for dinner and were seated quite quickly. The place was relatively full and very lively - the ambiance feels more modern after their reopening and I liked the decor as well as the new furniture. Our table had several fruit flies buzzing around the area - honestly, it was very off-putting as the first thing we saw when sitting down. We were at one of the taller tables in the back next to the bar and upon sort of brushing the flies away, they just flew to the other unoccupied table but luckily didn't bother us anymore. The menu was a little confusing - there were so many pieces to it and it wasn't clear what the different parts were. We settled with ordering mainly sushi and one appetizer - we originally wanted the fried oysters, but they were unfortunately all out. The takoyaki was cooked well for sure, the price was a little much high just for four pieces though in my opinion. The soup was good though and the sushi as always didn't disappoint. I've ordered takeout several times from Ebi over the course of the pandemic and I have to say that the quality they give hasn't slipped even a little bit. I thought the fish was fresh and the various other ingredients complemented every piece really well. I will say that we expected the spicy salmon to be more of a mixed product, but it was just pieces of salmon with the spicy mayonnaise as a topping. Overall, I found the experience pretty decent. The only con really was the fruit flies for sure at the beginning - the rest of the meal was pleasant and delicious. Hopefully the next time I come back, the flies are gone! read more

The omakase here is an incredible experience at a great price. You do not get to interact with the sushi chef, but the pairings, flavors, and presentation are amazing. They were only doing the 5-piece $22 omakase when we went, but the menu also has a 10-piece $42 omakase. Sadly I do not remember the specific names of the pieces we got, but everything tasted heavenly. Some of the pieces-- such as the toro nigiri-- were simpler and showcased the fish, while other pieces were torched and/or had aromatic toppings like shiso, chili crisp, or lemon rind. We were hungry and didn't think 5 pieces of nigiri would be enough for each of us, so we also split a 20-piece combo ($45). For this combo you get to pick 14 pieces of nigiri and a special roll, so we went with 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, squid, mackerel, scallop, yellowtail, and eel. For the roll we got the Somerville roll (sesame tuna tartare, tempura flake, shiso & scallion). The nigiri in the combo was hit-or-miss. The salmon, scallop, and yellowtail were all super buttery and delicious. The eel and mackerel were okay. However, the tuna and squid were not fresh and their texture was off. Some pieces of fish left an aftertaste in my mouth that made me question how fresh the fish was. The Somerville roll was not fun to eat. When we ordered I didn't realize that the roll did not include nori, and this roll desperately needed nori for some textural contrast. The roll was pretty much minced tuna on top of rice, which made for a very mushy experience. The tuna was very sweet and it kind of tasted like tuna mixed with gochujang. I could barely taste the shiso and scallions in the roll. The sushi here is BEAUTIFUL. They have small tables and bar seating so solo diners or groups of two can get seated easily. If you have a bigger party then you might have to wait longer. The dining area is extremely loud. I had to raise my voice a lot just to be able to hear myself and my partner. This place could be a fun date or hang-out spot, but don't expect a quiet meal. We waited about 20 minutes after ordering to get our food, so the servers recommend ordering appetizers. If I had only tried the omakase then I'd give this place 5 stars without hesitation. The quality in the 20-piece combo was inconsistent so I'll leave this with 4 stars. read more

One of the better sushi spots in Cambridge/Somerville!! I'm so confused by some of the negative reviews here because I've eaten here many, many times and have never had a bad experience in person or ordering takeout. The food is consistently delicious and the quality of the fish is top tier. It's not exactly cheap, but that's expected for good sushi in a major city. You also get what you pay for because all of the entrees and sushi rolls are huge. The restaurant itself was recently renovated so it's got a nice vibe, but it is pretty busy so try to get a reservation if you can or go during off peak hours. Some of my favorites from their menu: - Blizzard roll - Somerville roll - Crazy maki - Pork Buns - Pork Yakiniku (comes with noodles, rice, miso soup, and veggies - such a steal) - ANY of the nigiri (check out the 12 piece combo, it's a pretty good deal and rare to find a combo that includes nigiri + a specialty roll of your choosing). I've been going to Ebi Sushi for years now and they have some of the best sushi in the Greater Boston Area. Not only is their sushi great, they also have parking! All you have to do is park, go inside and give them your license and they will give you a parking pass...just don't forget to return the pass and get your license back! The majority of the time when we eat at Ebi Sushi, we order our own "Omakase" course. Creating it by picking a bunch of it from the Specialty Nigiri menu. We have frequented this restaurant over the years and last year they performed some renovations to modernize their vibe and interior design. Their chefs trained with Japanese chefs and the quality and presentation of the sushi and sashimi reflects it. Professional service all around. Even though their menu has been updated slightly, we always go for the specials menu as either nigiri or sashimi. This time, they wrapped this up in their menu as either an Omakase 5-course for $25 or 10-course for $52. Obviously, we chose the latter and the price is more than reasonable for the freshness. You can also add more pieces so they're flexible that way. Everything from the scallop, salmon belly, uni, tuna belly, yellowtail, botan ebi shrimp and head, unagi and branzino were fresh and delectable along with its toppings that rounded out their textures. One item that missed its mark was a darker colored akami (lean tuna). The Manhattan Mixtape cocktail (recipe changes from time to time) was especially heavier on the booze but the large ice cube chilled it more and brought it to a more pleasant experience. Come here if you would like to experience an enjoyable Omakase experience! One tip: starting at 3PM, you can park your car in the adjacent Dunkin' Donuts lot - just present your ID and they'll give you a laminated parking pass.
