There are plenty of sushi takeout options in Cambridge, most of which are pretty mediocre, but Wasabi at Porter seems to be a bit higher in quality so it may be my new favorite takeout spot. Prices are comparable to other sushi spots in Cambridge. We sampled the Sushi Deluxe and the Wasabi Roll. The sushi deluxe included 10 pieces of nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, and miso soup. The wasabi roll was new to me- it included tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, and wasabi fish roe, wrapped in soybean skin. Both were quite good quality with fresh fish, properly cooked rice, and properly formed nigiri and rolls. The miso soup came with lots of seaweed and tofu. It was plenty of food for 2 people. Delivery was fast. Overall would definitely re-order from them again. read more

Wasabi offers genuinely great sushi--always fresh, flavorful, and well-made. Since transitioning to takeout-only post-COVID, the restaurant has stayed well-organized and efficient, and pickup is usually smooth. However, there are a few issues that are hard to overlook. Most noticeably, it's become a regular sight to see the chefs smoking behind the building--often just before heading back in to prepare food with bare hands. It's honestly pretty repulsive, and it makes it hard to enjoy the meal knowing what goes on out back. At the very least, it should be kept out of customer view--and hygiene should be taken more seriously. It's not just me who feels this way. I have family members who used to love the food here but now refuse to order takeout because of the smoking issue alone. It's that off-putting. On top of that, the delivery driver continues to drive recklessly. I've seen him nearly hit pedestrians, other cars, and even my own car while backing out of the driveway with no caution at all. It's dangerous and really unprofessional. It's a shame because the food itself deserves five stars--but until the staff's behavior and basic food handling standards improve, it's hard to feel good about coming back. read more

Another productive outing at Wasabi - I'll start with the weakest thing and then move on to the more excellent offerings. The Yaki Udon with Shrimp didn't work particularly well - the flavors were really ordinary, the shrimp a bit dry, and the udon seemed to continue cooking in the takeout container. The onions were thinly sliced and thus prepped nicely, but overall this dish didn't match the sushi offerings. The white tune sushi was good - could have been a bit more tasty, and the tuna itself was a bit stringy. Not sure if this is normal for this species of fish. The California rolls, standard on one hand, but generally fresh avocado and imitation crabmeat. The Incredible Roll contained some nice crispy shrimp tempura, with some imitation crabmeat topping that was well flavored. The cuts of shrimp and the avocado were fresh. Really nice dish. The Sumo Roll had soft shell crab with some spicy scallop on top. The spicy scallop ingredients were not quite as fresh as I would have liked them, but I'm being very picky here; same with the soft shell crab. Otherwise it would have been a most excellent roll. The Mt. Fuji Roll was a superstar, with some nice crunchy bits topped over spicy salmon, avocado, and shrimp. The balance of textures and flavors made it one of the best things tasted at this place. Over the weekend I started craving sushi, but I have this thing where I don't like ordering raw fish sushi for delivery because I'm never sure how long it will sit out before arriving. I looked up Wasabi at Porter and decided that I'd order a bunch of cooked or veggie rolls - I got the Avocado And Cucumber Roll, Fancy Salmon Skin Roll, Philly Roll (has smoked salmon), and the Boston Roll. The Avocado and Cucumber roll was my favorite (the Philly and Salmon Skin roll were great too), but I probably wouldn't order the Boston Roll again - everything was fine, but the flavor combination was just okay, in my opinion. I would definintely order from Wasabi at Porter again and I plan on actually going to the shop sometime. As an FYI - I'm not sure if this is the norm, but the food was delivered like 10 minutes after I placed the other. It was like witchcraft. read more

Fried rice was gross and rice was wet. Sushi was gross and the rice was wet. Only thing that was good was the miso soup. Disappointed.

Had the ebi mango roll- with shrimp, mango, and cucumber. Tasty and fresh. Pretty, with the mango on top. Friends had the avocado roll and the chicken teriyaki (which came with soup and rice). This was my first time trying out their food. I did pick up. The woman greeted me warmly and had a table set up. The packaging was great! They put a bag of ice on the sushi container to keep it cold, they wrap the miso soup container in a plastic bag to keep spillage minimum. The pork gyoza was delicious and warm. I had the lunch sushi/sashimi combo. The spicy tuna roll had really tiny pieces of tuna, but other than that sashimi was very good. Everything is fresh. They don't skimp on the fish but also the combination of other components in the sushi were really delicious, they have a wide variety of rolls on the menu too. I am shocked at the other reviews. I just ordered from here for the first time- and I am so sad to say I will never order again. I bought 3 rolls, spicy salmon, Philly and the crazy roll... the fish smells and tastes off. After eating half the meal, I feel sick to my stomach. A waste of 35 +dollars. Wasabi knows what's up. I usually avoid eating out alone, but Wasabi's high quality food and comfortable dining experience tempt me to make this a regular practice. On a day off and ravenous from morning errands, I entered Wasabi around 1 PM on a Wednesday to just a handful of guests inside the smallish space. The smiling waitress seated me by a window at a table for 2 and provided menus boasting a variety of lunch options. I LOVE lunch specials that come with a variety of foods (at a decent price), and was very tempted by the bento boxes which include soup, salad, shumai, rice, and fruit. Ultimately though, I had to go with my gut (literally) and order what I had come for: sushi. The sushi lunch special ($10.95) includes miso soup to start followed by a plate of 5 sushi pieces (tuna, salmon, shrimp, and 2 white fish) and a roll of your choice from the options listed (most of them are simple, vegetarian roll options). After I ordered, my miso soup was was brought out promptly. It was warm and comforting, with good amounts of scallions, seaweed, and tofu in the cloudy broth. Just a few minutes after finishing this course, my lovely plate of sushi arrived, adorned with a bright purple flower. I had opted for the Boston Roll, which is shrimp, cucumber, and mango. This ingredient combination wasn't my favorite, but there was nothing wrong with the roll itself. And the sushi was just splendid. Fresh, tender fish atop perfectly sticky (apparently organic) rice served at room temperature, as it should be. I devoured the sushi and was left satisfyingly full and energized. During my time there, the restaurant had 1-5 customers and a few more come to pick up orders, so I hope that they are busier during dinner. However, this vibe was exactly what I needed to relax and enjoy my solo meal. I'm looking forward to my next day off when I can come try out a bento box (teriyaki eel sounds incredible) or the chirashi lunch special. read more

I just love these guys. I can't say I've actually dined in or done pickup, but I've been ordering delivery from then since July 2018. My roommate turned me onto this place because it's one of the few places she's able to eat (she has celiacs, so btw you can eat here if you are) and if she puts gf on the notes, they'll separate the gf order from the non-gf order in different bags. I always order the pork gyoza, alaska rolls, and tuna rolls. Always same quality and same delivery quality. Still cool sushi and hot gyoza and we get the same delivery guy all the time. He calls as he's driving up the road. I pup out and grab from his car window and wham bam thank you ma'am. They temporarily closed once quarantine began, but now they're back! Same quality and delivery quality. They do contactless delivery. Drop it at the door, step back, and call to let me know it's there. Great sushi and great place. Absolutely disgusting. No words. First we placed our order through Grub Hub. This was Friday Dec 18th 2020. It gave us a delivery time of 45-60 minutes. After a hour & a half, we start calling to check on order. Manager at restaurant states "he is going to call driver and check but food was on the way and he was sooo sorry". 15 more minutes goes by, we call again and we're told "I'm so sorry, I will call driver"...again, never gets back to us. Another 15 minutes goes by...this goes on for TWO hours. We finally ask for $20 off the order, order was over $80. He gives us a hard time and starts ARGUING with us. Claiming he's so busy but can't give us $20 "because of Covid". So he says he'll give us $15 off. REALLY? You can't spare the $5.00?!?! Not to mention all the arguing! Ok so finally about 21/2 hours after the stated delivery time, the food arrives. Wow...DISGUSTING food! Literally worst sushi and food I've EVER had in MY LIFE. The sushi had ZERO flavor. How is this even possible? We order sushi a few times a week from a local place here in town and never experienced this. This was our first and LAST visit to this establishment. The teriyaki chicken was over $15 and was FOR SURE frozen chicken that tasted like it was microwaved! Also it came with 2 pieces of small broccoli and 2 tiny pieces of cut carrots. This restaurant should honestly be ashamed of themselves. With this guys attitude and blatant disregard of the fact that his food was so late and not willing to do anything for us but argue, then grudgingly give us $15 off the bill...THEN to have the food be as completely DISGUSTING as it was...I'd love to see them go out of business! A place like this doesn't deserve to even BE in business. And oh you better believe that I am going to spread the word! I do NOT tolerate poor customer service and then NASTY inedible food for CRAZY high prices. Do yourselves a favor and go elsewhere. We will never ever be back. Ever. read more

This corner sushi restaurant was delicious! Quick service and clean. Parking can be tough with street parking but around dinner time it wasn't too bad. The menu was loaded with so many options which made it hard to chose. We were happy with our sashimi platter and white fish roll. Will def be back to try more! read more

Love this local little gem! Not only is the food here amazing but so is the service. I've been ordering take out since the pandemic began but I must mention that in the "before times" when I was dining in person, I took my friends here who were visiting from out of town. We got 5 star treatment, the owner/manager was so kind, he really went above and beyond and treated us like we were family! You can't go wrong with any of the food but the dish that really stands out to me here is the veggie fried rice! So tasty! Great place. read more

Favorite sushi as of late - fresh, delicious and consistent. They accommodate gluten free alterations really well for any type of roll - I've been very surprised how easy it is and how well-versed they are. Wasabi roll and valentine rolls are my favorite, otherwise I stick to classics. Good for in-house eats (although not a ton of tables) and for delivery. read more

Wasabi has officially taken the prize for my favorite sushi place in the area. My previous favorite was 'O Yummy' in Allston, tiny hidden gem - RIP! Quite frankly, I've eaten Wasabi sushi pretty regularly the last 3 years though so it was probably already subconsciously my favorite but now I can admit it. Anyways, Wasabi is DELICIOUS. Most other sushi places I've been to or go to can be a bit hit or miss. Some days are great, others okay, and others I'm severely disappointed. Not Wasabi! Always spot on. My favorites are their Valentine roll and the classic Alaska roll. I love getting the shrimp shumai whenever I go too, so good. Their prices are definitely not on the cheaper end, but certainly reasonable! Absolutely not something even worth thinking twice about when compared to the quality. The people who work there are super friendly too, and the ambiance is always welcoming and comfortable. read more

Update: 10/10 service!! Came back here a couple days ago to dine-in after only getting takeout from Wasabi for the last year or two and I was pleasantly surprised with the best possible service. Really could not have been better. Everything was quick and easy, didn't have to ask for anything, and it was overall a lovely dining experience. Food was as good as ever of course, I've never ordered anything from Wasabi at Porter I didn't like. I honestly couldn't recommend this place more highly. I ordered takeout from here for a quick dinner and was not disappointed. The lady on the phone was polite in taking my order and the wait to pick up was only 20 min (amazing for a Saturday night)! For myself, I ordered: -spicy salmon roll ($6.50) - comes with 8 pieces and it was fresh and delicious. -scallion pancakes ($7.00) - crispy and was enough as an appetizer for 3 people! I loved that they gave enough sauce, and that it did not get soggy by the time i brought it back home to eat. My friends ordered Philadelphia rolls and salmon avocado rolls and they were also satisfied with their order. The only thing that my friend mentioned was that their Philadelphia rolls come with avocado so make sure to ask for no avocado if you don't want that. Good and not super expensive sushi. This casual spot serves up some fresh fish. Even the rice was surprisingly taste. Service got off to a slow start, but once food got rolling it, my frown was turned upside down. I tried a platter of assorted nigiri in which everything was very delicious and a couple of their special rolls, which I also enjoyed. I came with someone who doesn't generally like raw fish, but this place made them a convert. That's saying something. Good for a casual dinner. Just got takeout for the first time from Wasabi. I had passed it so many times on Mass Ave without giving it a thought, but I read the reviews and ordered a maki special lunch. I liked that they didn't skimp on details, like little boats for soy and wasabi, implements and napkins. The maki itself was excellent - very fresh fish and ingredients. Miso soup was way above average. And the staff is very nice - I forgot my mask at home and went in with tissues over my face, and they gave me a disposable mask! My friend and I came here one night after a Yelp Elite event. It was cold out and we wanted some ramen, did some yelping, and ended up here. The place was relatively quiet on a Saturday night, but when the ramen is a calling..... We browsed the menu, which seemed to have quite a nice array of combos and sushi, all at a fair price. I would have liked to try some of the sushi rolls and will likely return to do so. We got the ramen which was quite a large serving, and between the two of us couldn't even finish the entire thing. The broth was delicious, not too salty, the noodles were cooked to just the right softness, and the veggies were fresh and crisp. A definite try if you are looking for some solid ramen. The staff was very friendly and checked in on us regularly. We were seated promptly. The place was clean, the bathroom was clean, and it didn't have an over crowded furniture feel which can happen sometimes. read more
