They also have some cool little branded reusable bags at checkout. Some prices are a little high, and many items can be found at other Asian stores like Daiso, Tokyo Central, online, etc., with more competitive prices. However, the variety of products in one place is pretty good, and it's nice to discover something new. It can be a bit overwhelming with the large space and well-lit store. After trying a few snack and drink items from my first visit, they were either good or one-and-done. The flavor profiles can be surprising, and I know what to get and not to get next time. A stationery lover's wonderland- and a dangerous place for anyone who lacks self-control around cute things. The store definitely gives Daiso and Miniso energy, with shelves packed full of Disney and Sanrio inspired goodies. Some items are priced a bit higher, but honestly, Daiso lost a lot of its magic for me after bumping its base price to $2.25. What used to feel like a budget friendly treasure hunt now occasionally feels like a comedy sketch where I'm staring at a tiny plastic trinket asking myself "this cost how much?" Ebisu does have plenty of stuffed animals and the anime plushies with astronomical price tags, though. I had excitedly picked up a medium sized Stitch plushie, only to flip it over and discover it was well over $50. My heart nearly stopped. Thankfully, there are still plenty of affordable gems hidden throughout the store. My personal happy place was the stationery aisle- specifically, the glorious wall of pens. No, these aren't premium Japanese brands like Sarasa or Pilot. They're made in China pens, but they're outrageously adorable. At just $1-$3 each, they practically hopped into my basket on their own. I spent an embarrassingly long time admiring colors, clicking pens, and convincing myself I absolutely needed the extra whimsy. My inner pre-teen was beyond giddy. I'm pretty sure I reach peaked serotonin in that aisle. As an unexpected bonus, I also found corn sticks in the snack aisle- a snack I pretty much inhale. Between the stationery treasure trove, nostalgic snacks, and surprisingly solid skincare section (Dr. Jart masks for just $10!), this store managed to hit every one of my weak spots. The cashier was also super sweet! I can absolutely see myself wandering back in the near future- probably for sunscreen, skincare, and definitely not for more pens. I'll be honest, when I saw videos of this place popping up I thought this was just another trend passing through. If you've ever been to Japan you know how exciting it can be to visit a store like Don Quixote or Sun Drugstores because they have a plethora of items that just feel like they're done so well. I never thought I would find something similar to that in the states but here I sit corrected with Ebisu Life Store. First Impression Firstly, let's get my first impression out of the way: I was vastly underselling this place from just aesthetics. Looking from the exterior this place looks like it's a cover up for a business that probably went bankrupt in a shopping plaza that's seen better days. Your assumptions to the same state on the inside as the outside would be warranted, but walking in you see there's a lot of effort put in. The space isn't large but they do a good job of making the space attractive. There are brightly colored walls to match the brightly colored lights above. Things do look a little empty here and there, like they're just getting started with this business and that's because they are. They're still in their soft opening phase. Once they fully stock and round out the space in their grand opening I'm sure the space will look more balanced. Products - More like Japan Than Expected Their product selection was much closer to what you'd find in Japan than almost anywhere else I've been in the states. As someone who only came back from Japan just three weeks ago I was surprised to see some products I never expected to see arrive to the US. Their focus seems to be on the gatcha games, crane games, and figurines. They have a vast array of them covering 1/2 of the walls in the store. The prices are decent for the figures although the claw games feel a bit too pricey for the prizes you can win. Their selection of snacks is pretty exceptional. Even with a small size for their store there was a wide arrangement of different types of Lays you would only see in Asia, Cup Noodles you normally don't see in the states, and multiple types of melon soda that was worth diving into. Their bath and home stuff was pretty great too. Though not as vast as a Don Quixote store in Japan they had some products that are normally Japan exclusive such as soaps and bath supplies. One wall, closest to the cashier, is also lined with cosmetics and skincare you'd find in Japan. Again, not as varied as in Japan but still a refreshing selection compared to other stores. Another thing I liked was their ice cream section where they have the viral fruit ice cream from Asia that are shaped like the fruit flavor they represent. They even have some that are discounted as they are slightly damaged when it comes to aesthetics. Conclusion All in all, I enjoyed my time spent perusing the aisles for Ebisu Life Store. I spent more time than I expected and even left with items even though I wasn't planning on shopping. I look forward to seeing what they look like once they're fully operational and shopping here once more. read more

The new store location feels a lot bigger than the other location, so I enjoyed exploring the new additions- the arcade, sanrio / hello kitty wall, more snacks & bigger beauty section. I think the blind box section is slightly smaller than the other location, but still has a lot of options! They had a lot of deals ongoing so I got to pick up snacks & beauty products at a really good rate. This store is pretty new, when you first walk in there are a bunch of arcade style prize games and mystery box vending machines. My main reason for going here is for the off brand LEGO! I stopped by LifeStore EBISU while putting together a care package for my 15-year-old niece's school trip to Japan. Crazy that another branch popped up in SoCal. This is definitely bigger than the Alhambra location and has more items in stock. It's brighter from all of the lights, has a huge multi screen TV at the front showing New Year's wishes with cute characters, and there's way more Gacha and crane game machines as well as other arcade like games you can win prizes like little figurines or plushies from. There is a wider selection of snacks, anime goods, and of course blind boxes. I love plastic heat death overconsumption capitalism. A lot of these I don't really care for since they're mostly loreless PopMart goods, but to each their own. They have some prize figures, anime acrylics and keychains. Love that they have a lot of plushie keychains here too. Probably a great place to get a gift for a person in your life who lives the Sanrio big 5 popular characters and some of the side characters they have too. Lots of Poke'mon and Kirby goods as well. I just recently did a make up run at the Alhambra location, so there wasn't much that I needed to get here, but my friends, one who hasn't been to the Alhambra one in a bit, and another who hasn't been to either locations, got toothpaste, and some other small goods. Some of the imported prices on anime and character goods are crazy (almost $30 for a smaller sized Gojo acrylic), but other prices for some make up and snacks and home goods are fair. There something about it that doesn't feel as inviting as the Alhambra location, maybe all of the blind boxes, fluorescent lighting, and dirty floors, but I felt like there wasn't as many really good random finds here like the other location. Yes more stock, but less rare gems. Then again this location just opened more recently, so we'll see. read more

I stopped in Just the other day while I was on my way home. First of all, getting into the parking lot is a nightmare. And once you do, finding a parking spot is another problem. I really like and appreciate that all of the aisles are labeled so that you have any kind of inkling as to what you might find as you crawl so slowly down the rows, looking at all the things, because when you came in here, you really had no idea of what exactly it was that you were looking for. Hello Kitty x Sanrio character items are very prominent in this store. I saw everything from toilet paper and facial tissue to stationary, writing instruments, household items, blind boxes, and stuffed animals, etc. I cannot say that anything here is at a discounted price. However, in comparison to some stores, some items may be a little bit cheaper. I was shopping in the store alone when I last came. I did over here another shopper tell their shopping partner that this was basically like a die so on steroids. I would say that is a pretty accurate description of the store. I noticed one thing that a lot of people were looking for was the fried chicken ice cream. I, myself, have not tried those Asian ice cream or popsicle items on a stick that are in a shape that we've gumballs the fruit flavor, like mango or peach for example. I would be interested in trying them. However, with all of the people going in and out of the store, looking into the freezer section and opening the door rather than just looking through the window to look at packaging, and what not, every single person that walks in there seems to open the freezer door and take out the product to look at it to find that most of the writing. All these packages is in an Asian language that they cannot read or understand., then there's this whole conversation that starts in front of the freezer as the door is open and the child is screaming in the cart because they want one, but mom and dad are still talking about it wondering if they should do it or not. Something like that is definitely not the fault of the store, but this is just a trend that I noticed. I could hardly find anybody at the store to assist me. Because the store is so heavily shopped and it is constant, it is difficult for associates to replenish items as quickly as they are removed or just misplaced. I can't even imagine the amount of go back there are here. Once I was done shopping for the very few items that I was interested in, the line was essentially from the front of the store all the way to the opposite wall. I was not willing to wait in that line. So, instead of just leaving my handbasket somewhere random, I handed it to the associate near the door and explain to them that the line was just too long and that I had no idea that it would be so long to check out. So, rather than leave my items strewn throughout the store and random places for somebody else to find later, I simply handed my basket to the store associate. I did ask them if there is a better time to come, and they said that sometimes the store is not in such disarray and it is not as crowded toward the end of the evening but again that was one of those hit or miss type of situations. I'm sure I'm not the only one but the Asian air fresheners and car air fresheners are some of my favorite items. I also really like looking at all of the fun little make up items. Asian technology and makeup is something that fascinates me. You can find a lot of beauty products here. You can also find a ton of snacks. Whether you were looking for a certain type of chip or a certain flavor of Kit Kat or even different types of instant noodles, it's a pretty good bet that they would have what you're looking for. Somebody in one of the aisles that I walked through even commented on a certain type of chip that they saw. They were shocked that it was called or was considered to be Mexican fried chicken, flavored chips. I thought that was pretty funny. In another aisle that I walked down I also saw some type of instant noodle that was or claimed to be appropriate for children. It actually said that it was appropriate for babies. I don't know that it was, but that was kind of interesting. Another thing that I noticed as I walked down different aisles was the number of people who mentioned different proposition warnings on labels of the items that were all imported. They kept reading the part of the label that said something like may cause birth defects, and other harm. That label is on a ton of imported food items. So, long story short... If you were looking to wander around a store for a good amount of time, and you don't mind crowds, but also don't mind not really being assisted by any associates because essentially you can't find any and don't mind terrible parking or being bumped into constantly, this might just be the store for you. I heard about this store opening up and was surprised to find out that it is located close to where I work so I decided to stop by today. Upon entering, you can see all the claw machines to your right. They have lots of merchandise from snacks, household items, beauty products, to all the cute Sanrio items.
