We had a really disappointing experience here recently. We were seated immediately, and the restaurant was fairly empty, but we waited over 20 minutes before anyone came to our table. The only reason we were finally helped was because we went back to the host stand to ask. Our server was friendly and did her best once she arrived. She brought out the bread, but while it was warm on the outside, it was still frozen in the middle, which was pretty off-putting. The food was just okay. I ordered the roasted chicken, which was a bit dry but still edible. Overall, the service delays and food quality didn't justify coming back. Came here for dinner with friends and would definitely recommend making a reservation, especially if you want one of the outdoor tables or a spot in their cozy indoor nook. The drinks were the highlight for me. They had some fun, creative options, and the watermelon feta martini was surprisingly really good same goes for the king street lemonade! As for the food, it was solid but not something I'd go out of my way for. The small plates and charcuterie were much stronger than the larger entrees. Everything was flavorful, but a few dishes felt slightly off balance... like either one spice or ingredient took over, or something felt missing. For example, the pastas were lacking seasoning and you had to think about the taste rather than it coming to you. I'd come back for a cocktail, a few small plates, and the atmosphere. I am SO excited to have this place open up as another option for our limited restaurants in the area! First of all, the vibe is fantastic--beautiful open old-timey bar area, and dark brooding floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in one of the dining areas. Also, the happy hour is ON POINT--50% off almost every appetizer! We got the vidalia onion dip, which I could bathe in, it was so good. Then the salmon with whipped potatoes and capers...I'm drooling just thinking about it. Finally, the watermelon feta martini--those are dangerously easy and interesting to drink, leaning heavily on the shrub (which I don't normally like, but DO for this cocktail). The only disappointing thing on the menu was the cookie skillet--it was a bit overcooked and dry. But I can't wait to come back here, it may be my new favorite in Leesburg! read more

Came here for brunch, with a 11AM reservation, we got sat immediately upon arrival. So glad we chose the time we did and made reservations as it filled up within 30-40 minutes. The ambiance is beautiful as it has the historic charm, modern, and cozy atmosphere. (Amazing location as it's on the prime corner of downtown Leesburg) My friends and I ordered their Espresso Martini which comes with Tito's, espresso, coffee liqueur, Grand Marnier. Amazing martini, bold, perfectly balanced. For appetizer we got the deviled eggs, which came with candied bacon. Love the salty and sweet combination. For entree my friend and I got Shutters Eggs Benedict (poached eggs, lump crabcake, fresh English Muffin, béarnaise, with fresh fruit) and Ricotta Tartine (house baked sourdough toast, whipped ricotta, caramelized pears, spiced honey, hazelnuts). The Benedict was perfect, crab cake was flavorful and balanced perfectly with the béarnaise, and neither one overpowered the other. Ricotta Tartine was very unique and good, however, I would not recommend that as an entree and it instead should be considered an appetizer or even dessert as it was a much sweeter entree. With the Ricotta Tartine being 'sweet' , we actually ended the meal with some Mussels (white wine, shallots, garlic, crème fraîche, baguette) to finish it off on the savory profile we were looking for. Food: D The Caesar salad was watery and didn't really have any flavor besides wet lettuce. We ordered the onion dip which was great, but only came with four hash brown sticks the size of steak fries. Maybe if it came with six sticks or even potato chips, it would justify the $14 price tag. We had a lot of dip left with nothing to dip in it. Visited Shutters on King on a Sunday night and walked away impressed with the potential here. Ambiance: 10/10. The space is gorgeous, thoughtfully renovated to honor the historical building while adding stylish, modern character. It feels warm, lively, and intentional. Easily one of the best atmospheres in Leesburg. Service: Also 10/10. Heather was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and on point the whole night. Drinks: 7/10, Cocktails were good, but at their price point I expect clear ice and a fully stocked bar. The Old Fashioned was solid but a bit too sweet for my taste (this is fine). More surprising: they were out of Benedictine, which is a staple for quite a few classic bourbon cocktails. Food: Table bread was great and unique, especially with the soft, spreadable butter. The bread was a combination of what looked like very high quality dinner rolls, and what looked like a thin focaccia bread with cherry tomatoes in it (very good!), Oysters were fresh and delicious. Vidalia onion dip was a pleasant surprise. Deviled eggs were good, though a little heavy on the mustard. Rainbow trout and autumn pesto pasta were both very good and would order again, but neither quite hit that "stand out" level. One disappointment: they had a 37 oz tomahawk special, but the kitchen couldn't tell us anything about it beyond "from a farm in the Midwest." For a cut like that, details matter: feed type, grade, marbling, breed, any dry aging. If you're going to feature a premium steak, you should be ready to talk about it. I appreciated our server trying to hunt down more information for me. That lack of information is what led me to not choose it, and I'm usually a sucker for a steak special. Bottom line: I'd absolutely come back for the service and ambiance alone. The food is solid, and the place has all the ingredients to grow into a Leesburg staple as the bar and kitchen sharpen their execution. Also, the smash burger looked fantastic as it passed by...I'll be back to try that along with their brunch. Excited to see how Shutters matures. We were seated in a small room off to the side of the beautiful bar near the front entrance. The restaurant was crowded but the room we were in felt cozy and quieter. There is another private room space as well as an outdoor patio space. We ordered off the brunch menu, which is more limited, but still offered a variety of options. We started with some pomegranate mimosas that we both enjoyed. We both ordered the shakshuka which was so delicious. Our server was super friendly and attentive and helped recommend items from the menu. If you are looking for some upscale atmosphere, this is a great option in Leesburg. The whole restaurant is sub divided into various rooms which offer a somewhat different vibe in each. On this trip, I ended up eating in the back bar with a friend. And we really enjoyed the service offered by the bartender. He was quite attentive to our needs. On to the food. I went with a simple order ... a burger ... and it was done right! Cooked properly and served with a side of fries. Overall, a really great experience. The best part of my night at Shutters, besides my company, was enjoying the beautiful outdoor space in their back patio. They are still new so I gave the service some grace and our server was really nice but things did take a while. None of the food I had blew my mind or had exceptional flavor. I think the most memorable/best item may have been the French fries! We sat at the bar after dinner and that was a great spot for a night cap. The trout entree was the most unattractive plating I have seen at a fine restaurant. A huge pile of Brussel sprouts dumped on top of a thin layering of sweet potatoes with a thin brown skin- side up trout with nothing on top. I wanted the blackberry smash-they were out of blackberry, so he told me it would be blueberry. It was good. The food, not so great. We started with the shrimp & corn croquettes-nope. No shrimp or corn in them. All dough. For entree, I got the burger. It was bland, nothing great. I was going to bring my husband one home but called him and said we can pickup food on way home that would be cheaper and more flavor. If I come back, it will be for a cocktail only. Went here for the first time last Friday. We didn't have a reservation (I highly recommend making one) but the restaurant was much bigger than I thought and we got lucky with two open seats at the back bar. The bartenders were extremely attentive on both our food and drink orders and they did a great job working as a team. We ordered the filet mignon and scallops and both were cooked to perfection. We didn't get a chance to check out the whole place but the layout was great with plenty of seating, an outdoor deck and a 3rd level (which was reserved for a private event). Super cool spot! I'll be honest, my first visits to Shutters on King didn't blow me away. The concept was great and the location had tons of charm, but the food and overall execution felt like a place still finding its footing. That's why my most recent visit was such a pleasant surprise. The new menu is thoughtfully designed, more cohesive, and confidently executed. Flavors are stronger, plating is sharper, and the dishes feel tested and refined rather than experimental. Everything we ordered came out well-timed, well-seasoned, and genuinely delicious, the kind of meal where the table goes quiet because everyone's focused on eating. It's always great to see a restaurant invest, adapt, and improve, and Shutters on King has absolutely done that. If you tried it early on and were unsure, it's time to go back. The food was okay but not worth writing home about - I frankly think they need to do a bit of work in the kitchen, decide if they want to be like Magnolia's (stellar) or something a little more mediocre. Sort of know why this restaurant isn't on yelp yet.... This place needs to figure out if it's going to be fine dining or a bar. It was extremely noisy. TVs blaring, girl falling over drunk in the corner next to us. But entrees are priced between 35-80. Portions were disappointing and lacked flavor. Scallop dish came with three medium scallops that had no flavor over a bed of bitter greens, chicken dish priced at $38 was even small. Halibut was blah. So disappointing. No vegetarian options either. Check came to $370 for 4 of us, including a $60 bottle of wine. Not the experience I wanted for entertaining my client and his spouse. We will go to Lightfoot for fine dining and KSO if we want a bar vibe next time. read more

There were three of us and we sat at a lovely table in the Library Room. Cozy, beautiful and perfectly laid out. No loud music blaring. Fantastic ambiance. Our server Mia was perfect. Attentive and thoughtful without being overbearing. Anticipated our needs. Food was excellent! Wife had the Squash soup. Her mother had the Mussels and I had the Charcuterie board. As an appetizer we split the mini country biscuits with pimento cheese and country ham. Each of us loved our choices. My mother-in-law had fantastic mussels and the broth was so delicious she asked for more bread and then a spoon so she could mop it all up! The Charcuterie Board was so generous it could have fed all 3 of us. The pimento cheese was full of flavor and just the right texture. I thought it a bit too spicy but that is a personal preference and probably the only thing I'd change about the meal. I have dined all over the US and much of Northern VA and this place is truly a gem. They may be shaking out a few kinks as they are recently opened but I HIGHLY recommend a visit. Decided to drop in my Monday afternoon around 5 o'clock. The place was pretty much dead at that time but quickly filled up with boisterous Loud self impressed people from Loudoun county I got the halibut which is a beautiful piece of fish in a plate artichoke purée, which was really good except it lacked acid and salt. I would order it again, but it needed doctoring. My wife got the students Art and a salad with an addition of chicken and she loved them both. We got a side of french fries and this is the sickening point. The fries were well. Let's just say about a three on the fry level. They were soft cold not crispy. something you might get a school cafeteria or worse somebody needs to tighten up the presentation. My halibut was again delicious, but came out slightly below temp asked for lemon and salt to make it tasty and it helped, but this should've been done by the kitchen.
