Initial consultation was with Dr Durrie himself, and the surgery was done by Dr Stahl. I appreciate all the work they have done. Over ten tests were performed on my eyes before starting doctor showed up. Dr Durrie went over the whole procedure in the consultation, told me about side effects. They have also warned me that there is a chance that this may not be permanent. Once I've confirmed that I would like to get the procedure done, I've talked to Brian about financing options and left happy (you just can not beat %0 financing). On the day of procedure they numbed my eyes (I declined taking Valium), explained to me everything once again, step by step, and warned me that they will be telling me what to do once the procedure starts. Oh, boy, those 5 minutes went by so fast. Procedure was painless, but a little uncomfortable. Once I got up from the surgical bed, I was able to tell the difference, my vision has changed. Forgot to mention that my husband was in a waiting room watching the procedure on TV with a nurse that went into detail explaining what was going on. I was sensitive to light for a few days, just as they said I would be, but artificial tears and sunglasses helped a ton. When you sign contract with these people they tell you there is a two year guarantee for the services performed. Well, I have forgotten about this, but they did not. They have called me about two weeks ago to remind that I need to be seen, as my guarantee will end in two months and they want to make sure I have no concerns they can help with. Say WHAT??? Can you imagine dealer calling you to ask if everything is ok with your car, as your guarantee wears out in two months?? I can't, as it does not happen. Durrie Vision does, because they care and they believe in the product they deliver. They won my heart and my business and I am so happy we chose them almost two years ago. I signed up for a free consultation but when I arrived I was told since I had been seen there before they would not see me without collecting $275.00 since I was an "established patient". I was shocked. I had signed up for the free consultation. They refused to see me. I reiterated that I signed up for a free consultation and I hadn't been seen there in years and am interested in a surgery that I would be paying thousands of dollars for. They still would not see me without collecting the 275.00. I reached out to my friend and she stated she also had her Lasik surgery done there and her 2nd consultation was free. She also stated that when she was unsure if she was going to move forward with the surgery since it is not covered by insurance and costs nearly 10,000.00 they DISCOUNTED IT BY 1,000 PER EYE!!! I know this sounds a bit petty of me as I am willing to pay thousands for a procedure but it is on principle at this point. Durrie you just lost a sale for not willing to compromise on the 275.00 office visit of an "established Patient" that hadn't been there in years that signed up for a free consultation. I guess that is why the waiting room and parking lot is empty. You should probably review those polices for people like me. You are loosing business. This is where my rating went from ALL the stars allowed to 2 stars. After choosing frames from the clearance rack, that would be 100% covered by my insurance, and making verbal note of my limited funds, I was handed a bill for $690.00 AFTER insurance deductions. Just bifocals, BTW. I was able to get them to drop one level on lens material, for $100 less. He said it was better anyway, but did not explain why he initially put a lower quality, higher priced option on. I was then told that the glasses would be ready in "no more than two weeks" and I would get a phone call. This was the first of four promised phone calls I never received. Three days later, I went to another eyeglass place, ordered a nearly identical pair of bifocals, but tinted, for sunglasses, and a pair of single vison, computer desk glasses, both with every coating available, and both pair with no insurance coverage at all, and paid a total of 1/3 the amount I paid Thompson Eye Clinic, for the single pair. 6 days later, I had both pairs in hand, and they were perfect. At the two week point, I called to see when I could come in, and was told they were not ready, but he would find out why and get back to me. Several days later, after hearing nothing, I called again. He said they still weren't in, and the status made him think something was wrong. I was placed on hold for nearly 20 minutes to then be told my first lenses were broken during grinding, so they had to start over. Then my second pair failed inspection, so they were starting over a third time, so it would be "another couple days, he would call me." I heard nothing, so called back 2 days later, and found the office was closed for that entire day. I waited until the next Monday, (today) STILL having received no calls, and was cheerfully told we were "right on track" to have them in THREE MORE DAYS (that is IF everything goes well)... The ONLY reason I agreed to pay more, for my glasses at this facility was that the Dr. and the Optometrist insisted the technicians was more qualified, and the lab was better. At this point, I have been without my everyday glasses for over a month, can't read, can't comfortably drive or watch TV, and have headaches. I have ZERO confidence in the lab making their THIRD (at least) attempt at grinding my lenses, have never once received a call from anyone at the office, and am out a ridiculous amount of money.

They numbed my eyes, did the laser procedure, and in about five minutes, they told me to sit up--and I could actually see the clock clearly for the first time. My eyes improved so much after that first surgery, but because my prescription was so strong, we did a quick enhancement yesterday. Now I'm seeing 20/15! It's perfect. The second procedure was simple, painless, and such a breeze. Everyone here is incredibly kind, polite, and professional. The whole experience has been amazing from start to finish. After my dog destroyed my favorite pair of glasses I had bought at Dr. Krannawitter's former office, I had a hard time finding frames in Lawrence that I liked. So one morning I popped into the new location on Pflumm. I was so impressed with what they'd done with that building. Of course, their eyewear selection was still amazing. The staff were friendly and informative, just as they had been 5 years ago. Bummed I didn't have a current glasses prescription to order the frames that I'd found there and loved, staff were able to squeeze me into an appointment right then so that I could go ahead and order my glasses that day. Dr. Kranawitter is very kind and personable. The exam was comprehensive and there was no pressure to try additional expensive services that would be unnecessary based on my age and history. However, when he attempted to inject lidocaine into my eyelid before the procedure, he injected the lidocaine into my left eye. The lidocaine included ingredients toxic to my eye, leading to excruciating pain, permanent eye damage, and disfigurement. As you can see by the attached picture, my eye is permanently disfigured. I was only 34 years old at the time of the incident, and it has caused immeasurable distress in my life. To make things worse, neither Dr. Chappell nor his employer, Moyes Eye Center, have taken any responsibility for their actions, despite Dr. Chappell admitting this under oath during his deposition: Q. Are you aware that one of the allegations in this case is that you inadvertently injected Lidocaine into her eye? A. Yes. Q. Are you able to rule out that that occurred during the procedure? ** A. I cannot rule it out. ** A. There's a number of possible causes for her postoperative post-procedure course. Q. And I know you went through some of them with me, but my question for you is are you aware if the doctors at Moyes who were -- who saw Ms. Dehnert in 2022, if you all were able to reach a consensus about the cause of her postoperative issues? A. Through many discussions and many evaluations, we have possible intraocular injection of medication as the most likely cause, with a number of other possible causes. I have been forced to hire an attorney and this matter remains unresolved, with Dr. Chappell denying my claims and offering me no compensation for my injuries. I am a single mom to a young daughter, which makes the emotional and financial stress of this incident even worse.
