If someone that works here sees this: -Most of the bed sheets don't have price tags on them, and I know you aren't allowed to sell things that don't have price tags on them- I needed to come here to get a plain white sheet for something I was making but it was hard to find one with a tag. Some of the sheets had tags, but most didn't. The lady at the counter said they couldn't sell something without a tag, and of course my weird awkwardness took over and forgot to mention that most of the sheets don't have tags on them. As far as thrift and discount stores goes, this one is pretty sizable. More like a warehouse at times then a store. Seemingly anything that can be donated can be found here. Clothing is standard fare but you can also find shelves of misc kitchen appliances, old electronics, various housewares, and even a small section of furniture. I needed a nightstand and got one for $4 after all. The seemingly wide selection adds that exciting flea market shopping experience feel. What will I find? Just browse a little and see where your creativity goes. Just watch for the sales tag. I found a massager with a 75% off tag but the same one elsewhere for standard price, which was still a cheap $5. This is a review of a thrift store based on donations and secondhand. I'm not about to make statements about employees or organization because I am aware of the implications of such a place unless its about some unreal, organized place. The honey and I were in the area for his iFly birthday run when I did a quick search for highly rated consignment. This was not it. It had some fantastic reviews, but the quality was just not what I expected If I were looking for summer throw away tanks or a costume I'd drop in here in an instant. But I was looking for work attire or Christmas themed housewares. A lot of what I saw was stained, or something you'd buy at Ross and the stapled price tag? Huge store with lots of clothing. Many fitting rooms for trying on clothes. Lots of miscellaneous items such as jewelry that is organized in small bags. Lots of media items organized on shelves. Array of purses hung up and easily visible to scan without moving items around. All items are priced with colored tags that have daily sales. The day I went, sales were: 25% off orange tags 50% off white tags 75% off green tags Pretty clean store organization and clothes and items don't feel grimy like other thrift stores. Lots of cashiers, no long lines. Recommended for people who love thrift stores. You can easily spend an hour or two here. read more

Though I have yet to find a thrift store to rival those in my hometown of LA (you have to be willing to go deep into the valley but they're worth it), Generations is almost good enough to fill the void. What I like is that it's independently owned so they don't jack you on the prices the way your Goodwills do. I need to update this review. I've been coming here for years and this place is horrible now. Horrible with pricing, and hiring the wrong people. They price absolutely everything too high, no matter what the condition it is in! I believe it's the gimmick of having a bunch of regular customers(resellers) who have no lives that spend hours in there to have them come back on discounted days to discover other merchandise they've put out. Customer service is horrible because most of the people in there don't speak English which in fact these people are pathetic working at this sweat shop getting just minimum wage! I LOVE this thrift store. The building is super huge - it used to be a car dealership/storage building. There is a huge selection of clothing and shoes. Lots of bags, jewelry, household items, books, toys, etc. There is definitely something for everybody. I've never really paid attention if there is furniture, but is that's what your looking for go to SA down the road. Like some people mentioned, the pricing isn't done with a lot of thought. Most things are priced very cheap ($0.99 and up), but there are some random things that are priced crazy high with no real reason. I think once the hipsters invaded, the store caught on and created a "vintage" section where the average price is like $40 an item. Everything just seems like the employees were guessing what is vintage and what is an expensive brand and priced based off that. But don't let that put a bad taste in your mouth - there is tons of stuff that isn't overpriced. Oh and there are 3 colors of tags every week that are 25%, 50% and 75% off. Like Goodwill, but larger, cleaner and without the smell of feet. I've been here a couple of times, and there's always a lot of enthusiastic shoppers. Yes, like every thrift store there's questionable sporting gear and electronics, and frankly, I really don't need or want anything here. I'd consider clothes, but past experience is that my size is not really in evidence in these places. What I did find? A cozy coupe for my daughter for $7, which is now one of her favorite toys, so big win there. I've been into other similar stores in the area, and this is easily the best one. Eco thrift is my local thrift shop. What I enjoy about this facility is the size of the store is big enough and kept clean enough to not be "dingy". The workers work hard not only keeping the aisles clear, and the shelves stocked properly, but in the busy fitting room area as well. In terms of finding pieces, you won't find much trendiness going on here but what you will find are a lot of staple/ basic pieces. Their collection is decently nice for the majority of its customers. But if you're looking for trendy/ sf/ la type fashion, that can come as a rarity here just because the audience who donates to this location are on the older/ more mature end. I find a lot of good hand bags and backpacks. Men's jeans. Household nicknacks especially and sometimes sportswear. In the past I've scored some great high waisted denim (das and mom jeans converted), backpacks and fanny packs and a solid pair of rollerblades. I never leave reviews but this place is terrible and unprofessional. After purchasing an item and asking an employee to remove the security tag, they tell me they cannot sell me this item and I had to chose a different item of the same price. Their reasoning was it had a damaged tag which they did not make sense to me nor did they elaborate. Of course I did not want anything else as I had looked through the store and asked if they could not sell me the item then could I get my money back. They told me to come back tomorrow if I wanted this item even though I had already bought it. They said they could not open their machines to give me back my money and there was no manager on site. They then forced me to pay 2.5x the price I initially paid. They forced me to pay 40 dollars for a jacket! If I had known that was the price I would not have gotten that jacket. How was I supposed to know the tag attached was the wrong price. Very unprofessional, rude staff, and I feel taken advantage of. FORCED to pay 40 dollars for a jacket at a thrift store! My BF and I crazy fans of ECO Thrift, the staff is semi professional and friendly, they don't rush you out of the store at closing hours like some stores do, generations staff let's you bring your "final purchases" to the front instead of saying, "we are closed get out" ;) I see many reviews agree, Generations is great! And those who do not agree, my recommendation to those who have had a "not so great" experience at Generations are: try going early in the day, and avoid going during the weekends. Going in early allows you first dibs at the goodies as they put out their stuff in the morning, going during the weekdays only allows you to get your hands on "treasure" because they DO NOT "put out" new items on weekends. Eco Thrift (Generations) puts out "new" items almost each day (weekdays only) they do NOT put out "new" items during the weekend, which makes sense because the "old" items need to be sold before stacking up more items. Yes they mark off their prices if one item has been there for more than one week, I believe....but I'm not sure if they continue knocking off items after the 3rd week. But yes, my bf and I have traveled to very many T stores sf, san carlos, san leandro, you name it but Eco Thrift in Hayward by far has the most TREASURES. Yes, most T stores we visit have what we like, but the prices are way to high and it's not even worth it because you can probably buy new items at those prices, so A T store should have reasonable prices and yes, Generations does have GREAT PRICES for what we want! We normally are in the "art and craft" isle so that isle is what we go for the most, i.e. furniture, decor, etc. so they are really good in that department, I have not really shopped their for clothes so I cannot say their prices are high or low because I have little knowledge in that department as I do not shop for clothing there more for decor and home goods. read more

Ecothrift is my favorite thrift store in the East Bay!! With a huge selection, you could literally spend hours in this place. With most thrift stores, it's usually a hit or miss and for me, ecothrift is a hit! If you're willing to take the time to search, you're bound to find something for yourself. I have definitely walked out with some great treasures for great prices. I never feel guilty spending my money here because it is substantially cheaper than other thrift stores like Goodwill. Not to mention they always have sales every day that correspond to the color of price tag, I'm not mad about that! The donation process here is also super easy and painless, the drop off center is to the left of the store front. There are 3 colors of the day with 25% , 50% , and 75% which I find super cool! Though we both oohed and aahed over the enormity of this store, she kept complaining about wanting to leave. So we basically made a pit stop in the bathroom and then rushed around for about 15 minutes. I really wanted to like this place! We drove from Antioch to see what Eco thrift is about. I don't usually write bad reviews unless my experience really was bad. And it was! For one, if you have social anxiety - stay away from this overcrowded maze. People block you into aisles with their carts, run you over, race you to an item and grab it before your hand could touch it. Looking at the bags of toys, I came across a bag that was open and full of broken ceramic! Cutting my fingers and feet as it falls out of the bag! Why is there glass in bags?! We also weren't aware of the NO TAG NO SALE policy. Which I think is a total crock of unicorn poo. My reason being - we were attacked by employees at check out as soon as we asked about an item that was not priced. She immediately ripped the plushy out of my bf's hands and said "YOU CAN NOT BUY THAT NOW!" As if we were trying to steal it or get a bargain on it when it couldn't have been more than $1 anyways! A man employee THEN bombarded us with questions about our electronics, "DID YOU TEST THEM BECAUSE THEYRE NON RETURNABLE!!" We were like "no...you don't even have vhs tapes to test it with..." and the employee then tells us "oh well we don't guarantee it'll work, we just tell you to see if it turns on..." uhm OKAY? Thanks for telling me I might be buying something that's broken? Then as we're walking out with a cart full of heavy electronics the man fails to tell us we can't even take the cart outside. We wedge the cart between the door. How do they expect you to carry it all? They definitely aren't going to offer to help you! LOL FOR WHAT IT IS, go to SAVER's instead! Best thrift shop I've been to! This place is soo big compared to other thrift stores. They are also organized by category and size. If your going there to shop for clothes make sure you have a couple of hours to spare! They have soo many clothes to look through. I also say this because there is sometimes a long wait for the fitting rooms and you can only take 5 items at a time. If I only have a few minutes I will go straight to the back of the store and browse the kitchen stuff. I always have an issue with parking. Even though they have a pretty good sized parking lot I can never find a spot or I find myself having to wait. Overall, I would choose to shop here first than other thrift stores. read more

I've been to Eco Thrift a few times over the years and remember when they moved into this massive building. There are many selections. I spent a few hours in here yesterday. I had items to donate but prefer to take them to savers because this place is a "for profit" spot and no portion of your donation goes towards charity, just a small percentage of their earnings. My first complaint is that they only allow 5 items in the fitting room. I believe savers and most retailers let you take in at least 8. I had about 18 items and had to take multiple trips. So annoying. Fitting rooms are equipped with curtains, most have filthy walls so be sure you don't fall and have to catch yourself while trying anything on. Really had to hunt for good items. Their sizing in the aisles could be better. Store is fairly well sorted with the nice women's clothing in the back of the store near the bags. During my hunt, I was really excited to have found a scarf for $2.50. The scarf was super cute and perfect for a trip I have coming up. While looking at items, the tag that was attached with a small staple fell off. I made sure to hold onto the tag and didn't think it would be a big deal. It was the last item I gave the checker and she told me that since it didn't have a tag on it, the item could not be sold to me. I had to have her repeat that because it made so little sense I thought I was in the twilight zone for a minute. I asked, "What do you do with it then? Can I just have it?" It was mind blowing to me this practice. She explained a worker would have to have seen the moment the tag fell off, or accidentally taken it off in order for it to be sold to me. I was told it would be re-tagged and placed back on the floor and I can come back and purchase it tomorrow. Again, this was baffling and frustrating so she had a young manager speak to me. The manager went to the gold standard, "Store Policy" line and I had to say a few times, "I get that but why, explain it to me because I don't understand, do you think I am up to something? Are people stealing things?" She said they do sometimes have people remove the tags and bring the items up hoping to get a better price but they don't price that way. I still am just shocked by how insults and bass ackwards this is, to give up the opportunity to make money. So buyer beware, you'll have the wtf moment of your life. I finally found a thrift store that I love! This place is organized and clean unlike a lot of other stores in the area. The clothes are all organized by category as well as size which is so rare to find. They update their clothes selection very often and people are always in the store ready to help. I found some designer jeans and shirts for less than $10. They have a three colors that are always on sale whether it's 75% or 10% off. This place will not be my new go to store. Eco Thrift, you are the boyfriend who I know I don't love, but I just can't seem to break up with. You're funny, the sex is great, but you are not the complete package I am looking for. Don't get me wrong. The clothes selection is really great! I have found some great designer name brands for good prices, especially since they have three colored tag sales a day, 25%, 50%, AND 75% off, BUTTTTTTTTTT this store is poorly organized. The clothes are not separated by size or color, so you have to really be in the mood to thrift, or else you will just feel defeated when stepping into this store. Perhaps I'm just spoiled by Thrift Town. I shouldn't really expect the clothes to be organized by size and color at a thrift store, but size signs on the racks will encourage shoppers to look more, especially since they have SOOO much clothes. Then there's the shoes.. that are on top of the rack, which I understand, it is to save space in the store. But the aisles are crammed with carts, clothes, and shoppers, so if you are on the hunt for shoes, you have to battle to get into the aisle, then bring it to the side to try them on, because you don't want to bend down to put a shoe on and get your butt hit by a cart. PLUS no organization with the shoes, again not by size or color. I want to love you Eco-Thrift, really I do, but you have some cleaning up to do. One of my new favorite thrift shops! Only discovered this place recently and I'm in love. They don't only have hand-downs but they have some new too. If you're a true thrift shopper like me, you gotta take the time to search for the good stuff. Yes, thrift shopping can be a bit hectic going through the mess but you gotta take your time to look at things and try to picture a creative way that you can make use of it. I absolutely love going through the antique section. I recently bought two vintage looking tea cups but I'm not using them as tea cups; I bought small little candles and light them inside the tea cup, now it's a candle holder. It makes for a great decor and lights up. When going thrift shopping, you really have to use your creativity. Not all things that serve its purpose could be used just that one way. You can totally mix things up and make it your own. Another great thing about shopping at thrift stores is that it's definitely one of a kind. So if you can find something great and turn it into something awesome, only you will have it. read more

LOVE the new location! It's so big--it's like walking into a department store. Clean, great parking, BATHROOMS, lots of check-out clerks. I spent $48 and walked out with: * TWO hats * Gloria Vandebuilt overnight bag--very cool and STURDY * beautiful silky plush full length robe (great for these cool nights!) * sexy dark green brocade/see through nightie (perfect for warming UP these cool nights!) * two kick ass go-out-on-the-town jackets * danskin breathable pink t-shirt * gorgeous tie for the BF (risky...I can never purchase ties for the men!) * bed tray with legs for bringing the BF breakfast in bed! Their prices are a little higher but on the whole, I couldn't go anywhere else (except Thrift Town!) and walk out with so much for so little. After I found out this establishment is NOT a non-profit and there's a CEO pocketing all the money from other people's donated clothes, I definitely try to limit my shopping here. I heard their pickup service is called 'Saint Vincent's' or 'Saint Jude's' or something to that extent, so people automatically assume their donations are going to a good cause. Manipulative branding at its finest. Other than that, I used to really love shopping here. However, this place has really gone down over the years. Super messy, and the selection has been integrated with corporate wholesale nonsense. If I wanted cheap flea-market quality merchandise, I'd go to the freaking flea market. There are some good deals to be found if you come in at the right time, but most of the time, you're hunting for nothing. Come here if you have a couple of hours to kill and don't expect to purchase anything. *In response to the reply, although yes, labor is a cost like any other business has to pay, you still get the merchandise for FREE, and your trucks are misleading, regardless of the tiny discretionary wording you put in the front. ******Here's what I really didn't like about this place. There are a couple of guys who appear to live in the store. Both days I came they were sitting in the chairs by the tools. They sit there waiting for things to get put out and get a bit territorial. I was looking at a game system, and one of them started to make conversation about why I was interested in it. And then while he was talking to me, one of his friends went around and started placing a bunch of game items in his cart. The guy even proceeded to try to lead me away from the section telling me there was other stuff on another side of the store. They horde things in their carts throughout the day, and then decide at the end of the day what they are going to keep. This place is not good for men's clothes. The selection is dull, and things are priced erratically. For example looking at their ties, a new tie was priced $1.99, while some generic late 80s tie with mustard, maroon, rust colors and an abstract nature print was priced $2.99. This place is great for electronics and big ticket items. They had a number of cameras, a projector, gaming systems, tools. Half of the store is dedicated to these types of items. And it is all priced well. Things go quick, you have to buy it when you see it. I looked at a beat up projector that I felt was priced too high and not entirely working, and the next day it was gone. Basically she is saying to a non satisfied customer who received merchandise that was missing the main components that its OK for them to sell a cookie press without the molds, and games without ANY pieces because SOME as she explains"many" people buy s--- to turn it into something else and selling fully incomplete packages are an ok thing to do. From a consumer perspective MANY of the people who shop in a thrift store are low income and need to find affordable things usable in WORKING ORDER. Those people are the majority. F this place. My favorite store in Hayward, possibly anywhere! Great prices, organized, clean, HUGE selection. I never leave without a cute new shirt, clothes for the kids, or something for the house. If you need it, you can find it here. Dance clothes/tap shoes for your daughter? They have it. Soccer cleats for your son? They have it. A bundt cake pane for that special recipe? They have it. Cute denim jacket to go over that floral springy dress? Yup, they have that too. It's also one of my kids favorite places to "treasure hunt." I grew up going to the eco thrift in Vallejo (previously called the Value Center), but it was never as nice, clean, and organized as this one. And the Vallejo branch is waaaaay overpriced. I came here for the first time two weekends before Halloween to thrift for my costume. I would not recommend going on the weekend. It was pretty crowded when I went. An older Filipino man mistook me for a worker and asked me a question. Awkward. Everyone and their moms are on the hunt for a good deal on the weekends. Chances are, the good finds have already been taken. The store is huge so there is a lot to look through. There are additional markdowns depending on the color code on the tag. Be aware of this because your item may be a lot cheaper! I would definitely come back on a weekday to avoid crowds. read more
