One of my favorite stores! This location is huge and I enjoy coming here. They have plenty of parking in their own lot and street parking also. Come early as the parking lot can get full. Always grab a cart because there is so much good stuff. Or not-up to you. I like to peruse almost every aisle, looking at each item of clothing- I got a whole system down. Of course I'm paying attention to the color tag sale of the day, but if it's cute, it's going in the cart. The women's section is great but the men's section is good too. Their racks are packed full. They don't have fitting rooms but there are mirrors if you'd want to pull something over your clothes to try on. What's great is that they also have bathrooms. Very convenient especially when you're shopping a long time. The store also has kids clothes, shoes, small furniture, housewares, toys etc. Did I mention they have a lot of stuff? The store is clean, organized and the employees are friendly. Some items can be pricey, sure, but it's all about rummaging through to find those hidden gems and getting a good deal. I think it's fun. I truly love this place and always come back when I'm in town.

Ask the Community - Eco Thrift

When do they restock? Best time to go during the week vs weekend?

Eco is closed on Sunday & Monday. I believe restock I put out on those days, and they change the color tags. I always see employees stocking the back shelves with glassware and other items.

Have they started carrying books again? Pre-COVID they always had a great selection but I've been a few times since and never see books anymore.

    Nope, no books yet.

Are the dressing rooms still closed?

They got rid of them permanently

    Do they buy clothes?

No they do not purchase clothes. They operate 100% by donations.

    Are they accepting donations?

Yes! New drop off area is in the back parking lot.

    Is this open for donations?

As of 8/20 no they are not taking donations! Their voicemail says they are accepting and normal hours but it is not correct. They had a banner up saying no donations .

    Best times to go?

Morning to early afternoon when everything is organized and not shuffled through.

    Do they sell film cameras?

That's probably not something they get donated often so most likely not. But I did see a camera locked up when I was there so you never know! But I would say no.

Do they still buy clothes from you/offer the option for store credit for items you bring to them?

Not that I know of. They only give you the tax slip

Which freeway exit is this coming from San Mateo?

Downtown Hayward, 1st right, left on Dollar st., right into parking lot

Does this location take furniture like small card tables or a break room table?

Hello Stephanie, Please call the store directly at (510) 487-6212 and they will let you know the…

How do I go about making a donation?

Just take it to the location and they have an booth/storage spot right out front with personnel to take it. Make sure you ask for a receipt to use for your taxes. Cheers

I said, I'm calling a thrift store and I don't know if this is who you are. He reply Yes. I said as a business you should say hello this the thrift shop to confirm to people you are a business. He replies, you called me! Rude; after I just explained why he needs to act like a professional and reference the business. I tell him I'm not from Hayward and willing to drive there if you would do a quick look to see if you have any CD players and cassette players for a stereo system, not a boom box. He said he thinks he has some. I explain I am willing to drive if he has some, but don't want to if he doesn't. He say, yes I think we have some. I ask will you please confirm and take a look. He says, I'm pretty sure we have them. I ask how much are they. He says they'er not much. I ask again, would you please check and let me know how much. I see these in other thrift shops for $15-20 dollars. He says his aren't that cheap. I ask how much are yours. He replies more that that. I said that doesn't help me. For Pete's sake, you are not working with me at all on anything I ask. You don't let people know your a business when you answer the phone and argue with them about I called you etc. He is not willing to walk over to physically see if he has a cd or cassette player and not willing to tell me how much he charges. I push him again for a price. He says the CD player and cassette players are over $80 each. I say, that's why I'm asking. I don't want to pay that much. He says his have been gone over and work. I said that doesn't matter to me. What ever shop I buy from, they will take it back if it doesn't work, even at $15. He says I knew you didn't want to spend any money that's why I didn't tell you. I said when someone asks for a price, simply tell them. Don't make drama out of it, that's insulting. Then he hangs up on me. Ask yourself, do you want to be treated this way? Shame on him. He wanted to argue with me about everything. I called him back, of course he didn't take the call. I left him a messaging saying he just earned a negative one star on yelp. You brought it on with you bad attitude. I don' know what position Roberto or Jesus or smoother man? has (answering machine message says she is his daughter leaving the recording. I'm assume it's his business.) It's been along time since I've run into a rude business owner. I've only left one other Yelp review and it was 5 starts. Sorry Roberto, you deserve this review to be read by others.

(aka Union City) I finally had the time to check this place out on my lunch break - given, I was in an instant desire to let go & get my hands off of some fresh kicks (Air Jordan 4 Retro Bred ReImagined - sz 10), that I had bought over a ShockDrop from their Nike SNKRS app hat my homie hooked up for me not too long ago! I remember so much back in high school, with my part-time job in the library shelving books, yet I'd fork over almost my entire paycheck to get some J's... but then, it sorta just stopped once I graduated high school & went to college - up 'til I was gettin' into my early twenties, and had phased out of it & moved on to 'grown man shoes', as my best friend would say back in the day not too many years back. Don't say I didn't warn you! Once in awhile, you'll find yourselves craving for some fresh kicks, just wanting to browse on some vintage apparel & footwear & other knick knacks, and/or even getting yourself donned in what's "in" to be "it", cuz you know you just can't stay away from being & looking "fit"!
