The hotel itself is clean and airy, with a spacious lobby and sitting areas. The room is comfortable and adequately appointed with a relatively roomy bathroom. No more mini bottles of shampoo, however - just large containers of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash mounted on the tub/shower wall. The hotel has a bistro so you can hibernate if you wish and order breakfast and dinner, though there are plenty of dining options nearby. Staff was pleasant and competent.

Bathroom is sparkling clean, nice size and well appointed with little bar of soap, wall shampoo/conditioner and hairdryer. Bright lighting, fan & full mirror. Indoor pool, hot tub. Very large outdoor sitting area w some lou he chairs and a few round tables w umbrellas. I saw families ordering in pizza and the kids could run around on the little fenced in lawn touching the patio. Very nice lobby seating area with a fireplace not on this time of year and lemon water. Each floor with an ice machine. Funny, all the vending machines were empty. We did use the laundry room, had 2 of each washer/dryer that were very efficient.. 2 dollars for wash, 3 dryer and 1 dollar for detergent via machine on wall. They even had a good sized indoor pool for grown up and kids to play in. Everyday free breakfast, you can tell the cook take pride on how they cook the food and present it. The best part, the staff. They refused to provide it bc they said manager Jeremy Brown did not return several phone calls confirming he agreed to the refund, and added that booking.com has a no-refund policy. so the service is lousy/disruptive and the manager is not responsive to complaints.

I've been a guest here several times over the past 4 years. It's my go to in Northampton and I…read moredon't think I would consider staying anywhere else. It's an odd building (probably a few buildings cobbled together for the main hotel) but very charming. The restaurant and bar are strangely designed but definitely comfortable. The lobby area is large and welcoming. There's a beautiful front porch that is enclosed and looks like it was once a fully outdoor porch. I always find myself camped out there for part of the visit. You can find outlets to charge phones and laptops here and in the lobby as well. They have additional buildings and I've stayed there as well. Everything is very comfortable and you can make a short or long term stay work out very well. People are nice as you might expect. On our most recent visit, our room 300 was noticeably musty but opening the window for a while seemed to clear that up. Parking is limited if you want a space near the hotel. They have 10 minute spaces to allow guests with heavy bags to unload and there's a one story elevator to the parking lot to make the building accessible to anyone. The location could not be better. You can walk to a variety of excellent restaurants and shops. It is very easy to find and a few minutes off I-91. If you're a runner, take a left out of the front door and Smith College and a very nice park are just up the street. There's a reproduction tavern under the restaurant that I think may only be open for brunch on Sundays? I've never noticed it being open. There's an outdoor garden patio that could not be more beautiful. I think I recall seeing them serving out there but don't hold me to it. I'm usually here in the winter or shoulder seasons. There must be a reason why they don't use this as their main bar. Possibly accessibility? It's just another one of the odd layout dynamics of the Hotel Northampton. I would characterize it as charming. The bottom line is that I would stay here as often as I could. I don't even consider looking somewhere else when in the area. I think you would enjoy it if you gave it a try so please do!

We expected to be in the main building and were disappointed to be placed in the Gothic Garden out building. The first room we were in had a broken air conditioner and the temperature of the room was 78. After speaking to the staff a man in a suit with a walkie talkie came over. He tried but failed to open a window and poked at something on the air conditioner unit. Nothing changed and about 3 hours later, I went to the main building to report it. Amazingly, they had a room upstairs. The air conditioner worked in this room, however it was fighting with the 78 degree temperature and went on for 20 minutes then off for 20 minutes repeating this cycle all night. It would have been ok if it didn't sound like a jet engine at the foot of the bed. And the mattress was so pillowy that you couldn't move once on it. Neither my wife nor I slept and not for a good reason. When I checked out, I mentioned the discomfort and noise and the staff only wanted to know if I wanted my receipt on paper or by email. Highly disappointing and expensive mistake.

The rooms are stocked with snacks and there's some local artwork you can purchase if you like. The upstairs suite doesn't have any kind of a kitchen, though there's a mini-fridge and I believe a microwave, so dishes are bussed out as you use them; don't plan on doing any food prep on your own. The hostess brought breakfast to the room (there's not a common dining room like most B&Bs) and pointed out the local ingredients including eggs from her chickens and vegetables from the garden. This is a real working mini-farm and it's fun to stroll the grounds and see what is going on. And it's VERY close to the northeast corner of the campus; we were able to leave our car and walk to his dorm (Van Meter) in about 20 minutes. Like the website says, the grounds are very rich in animals and there's an extremely friendly cat who wouldn't stay out of our room in spite of the management's desire to keep the premises pet-free. Keep this in mind if you have allergies.

My room was basic, but clean and very comfortable. The shower was warm and the pressure was good. The heat/AC worked well and was a bit nosy but not at all like other places I have stayed. My room's location was almost a guarantee to be loud. Right across from the ice machine and the first room from the pool. However, with the exception of one little girl who didn't want to leave the pool and had a lovely set of lungs, there was no noise. It was a peaceful night's sleep. The free breakfast in the morning was a huge disappointment. Coffee was there, cereal, oatmeal packets, and some pastry that I noticed was there the night before. I grabbed an apple and was grateful for the muffins back at UMass. My next trip to Amherst I will definitely check here first.

Breakfast is top notch as everything is made fresh to order by Marie (the owner) and her friendly staff. They make anything from eggs any style, pancakes and French toast out of their homemade bread. Sausages are made at a local store along with their thick slices of bacon. Sheets and linen are freshly washed and smell divine. Overall, cannot rave about this place enough. I am sad to admit my visits will be coming to an end so I highly endorse others to take our place!
