Some have asked what prompted my review. I have my termite protection with Terminix and my pest control with Economy Exterminators. Terminex recently preformed their annual inspection and quoted me over $10,000 to remediate the fungus in my crawl space. I have found out since that this is called "Surface Fungus" which is harmless. I called Economy expecting some honesty after so many years of service. I was shocked to hear the same SALES pitch almost verbatim. I had to asked and the sales rep. seem to be proud of that he had worked Terminix. Then went on to say every one in the sales department work for Terminix. I asked if they had been bought out by them and he smiled and walked away. read more

We used them for a severe crawlspace moisture problem. They were able to start the next business day after the initial estimate and were totally done three days later. The people who worked on our house went above and beyond. For example, they fixed the broken latch on the crawlspace door while they were installing the rest of the moisture control equipment. I have many years of experience with Economy Exterminating both at home and at a friend's place of business. Up until this past year the majority of that experience was ok. BUT, something changed in the company's management and customer relations attitude. First their commercial contract at my friend's business was terminated due to their unwillingness to provide a higher level of service. So another exterminator was hired that was more than happy to provide better service. Later on this year the residential contract with Economy for my home came-up for renewal. Instead of sending a qualified technician to my location, a high-powered salesman was sent who was pushy and rude. He even had the "gall" to say that older properties such as mine were nothing better than slums and that they (Economy) really weren't all that interested in that kind of business...he seemed to feel that they were doing us a favor by even considering doing the service. I asked if these were just his ideas to which he responded that this was his opinion AND the opinion of the owner of the company! While the property may be older, its far from being a slum, and I found his comments so insulting. He said they would be willing to treat the property as long as we went along with a hefty increase in cost and less effective treatment options by switching to a monthly inspection plan that used baits and no up-front treatment until the property is under attack. This guy was absolutely one of the worst sales persons I've ever had the misfortune of meeting. ! It seems his idea of great customer service is to offer less service for more money. The residential contract with Economy was dropped and another company was easily found and hired that provided the level of service we desired and at a reasonable cost. There's a lesson here: Like the saying goes, consumer beware. Be sure to ask lots of questions and never be afraid to shop around for local, reputable service companies that want your business and are willing to offer even better service at less cost. Don't be afraid to say "NO THANK YOU" if you feel the offered level of service or cost isn't right for you. read more

They tell you they give you a 10 year warranty but what they dont tell you is you have to pay on the warranty 10 years. I had my home treated fir termites in 2013 only to find out the warranty is only covered if you pay for it for 10 years. ANOTHER SHADY company read more

EE expert technician found the source and the nest, treated it with different and multiple chemicals than the competitor I was with. To my surprise, I woke up today to NO ants! For over 20 years we have used Economy Exterminators in Cary and Charlotte for services such as pest control, Sentricon termite monitoring, sump pump installation, and crawl space vapor barrier installation. The crews have been consistently professional and responsive. The previous owners of our first NC home had been under a termite control contract with one of the big nationwide chains, but that company's annual inspections never found any damage (surprise, surprise). At a neighbor's suggestion we switched to Economy, and Economy's thorough initial inspection identified some serious damage from wood boring insects. We had them come out and give us the termite treatment and we also had them install a dehumidifier in the crawl space. Both services ran over $3000. Termite treatment went fine. When they installed the dehumidifier, the installation was not done properly. The tech left the unit covered in the plastic wrap that it was shipped in, so the unit was running and not able to take in the air. I noticed it the next day, and let management know about the botched install. I was concerned that damage had occurred due to the unit straining for air and not functioning properly. Management would not replace the unit, but told us they would extend the warranty from one year to two with free service calls for both years. The first year they did come out and service the unit as promised. This is the second year and I have called three times and left messages for management, but no response. So over all, I am not very pleased with this company. read more

I live at Chapel View Apartments in Chapel Hill. And they have had pest issues for a long time. They recently switched to using Economy Exterminators for their pest control needs. I set up (through the complex) to have my apartment serviced for preventative spraying. I have two cats and I'm always really nervous about them being around pest spray, but we were currently out of town so it was a perfect opportunity to spray without the cats present. I came home Wednesday to find a note left by Economy Ext. explaining what they sprayed for and that it was performed, "where cats could not get." So the exterminator must have noticed all the cat's belongings (cat tree, food bowls, etc.) and made the decision to spray appropriately. I called them to make sure no bait was left inside the apartment and the person who answered the phone pulled up my record and verified easily that no, it was only a spray. I was really impressed by all of this. I'm so glad the exterminator kept my fur babies in mind while spraying without anyone telling them to do so. I cannot tell them enough how much I appreciate the thoughtfulness! read more
