I found a found a reliable market that carries many of the asian products that I need to make my favorite dishes. There was a time that I could get black bean garlic sauce at the local markets, no more. I've been here a few times, as this store is across the street from the very popular Manor Market. I think being across the street from them keeps their prices competitive, as I did find some vegetables slightly lower in price, although both places have very good prices, usually. Small parking lot in front of the store, and the lines inside went fast. Good market!!! read more

Small Asian store that carries my usual Filipino product needs. The cashiers are friendly. The vegetables are fresh usually.

Although this small grocery is not perfect. This grocery has a lot of popular brands of Filipino, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese goods like pantry essentials, rice noodles, egg noodles, vegetables, snacks, coffee in 2 different sizes (the ones in bigger packs and in 10 sachets. There are more Filipino goods here where you can buy anything. Trust me, there are a lot of snacks, candies, biscuits, chocolates, and every brand you recognize in the Philippines. Selection is huge here like 4.7/5. Prices is comparable like a supermarket but if you live in San Leandro, Hayward and San Lorenzo. This is the place to go. 4/5. I would not suggest buying meat, not a lot. I would rather go to 888 Manor or another 99 Ranch or other butcher near that area. So here's the thing, it's another Asian grocery foods market in the heart of a small San Leandro neighborhood. The only kicker which I just found out is that owner of THIS market is practically my neighbor out here in Union City.....so you knowwwww which one I'll be reppin' from here on out! This market in actuality, is much more cleaner and organized, then its competitor across the street The selection may not be as large, but you're able to find things easily and 'cuz again, it's much more organized. This one also isn't so busy, so you'll be able to check in and out. You won't be bumping other shopping carts in this grocery store. I go to this store mainly for an elderly relative. It's basically a hole in the wall and keeping the store clean and tidy seems to be a low priority for the owners. There are generally 2 Asian ladies that work their registers, a middle aged one and a younger 30ish one. The middle aged lady has decent customer service skills. However the younger lady is just flat out rude. She's someone that simply never learned any manners. She treats you like you're imposing on her time. After she rang up my groceries I'm the one who said thank you hoping to elicit a positive reaction. She just looked at me with a blank stare. read more

Economy Market isn't much to look at. The outside barely has any signage, and they definitely don't spend any money on outside marketing or keeping the inside pretty. But what they do well is have several different Asian food items in stock at a very affordable price. This is very fortunate for those of us who live in the area. There are several Asian markets around (including one across the street), but Economy Market offers the best value around. I've heard several customers say live outside the area and often stop in when they are in San Leandro. I don't hear that at the other Asian markets! One note: if you are not familiar with Asian markets, don't bother asking for help at one. Just wander around and try purchasing something new. Or just look on the internet while you are in the store. Unfortunately, this store doesn't have that many staff, so you won't find anyone to help you in the aisles. Also, the market isn't open super late. Otherwise, this place is great. There's always space in the parking lot, and it's never that busy inside. Economy Market has changed a lot since i shopped here. they now have a vast inventory of filipino products that rivals seafood center. the southeast goods are on par with ranch 99. didn't have time to check if pricing is competitive or not 3.5 stars buys: "marigold" thai tea juice bar 4/2.99 -tasty. lots of filipino flavors too (halo halo, turo missing at economy -fresh baked goods, pastries -deli, fast food section -liquor, alcohol -parking. only 5 spaces in front. -safe drivers. everyone drives like a maniac here. -no chinese newspapers, only tagalog ones. read more

I know of Economy Market, yet I've only been there once before today. A nice little neighbor Asian store. It has a lot of selection, considering the size of the store. What I love about the store? The convenience factor...promixity--it's about a 5-minute drive. It's ideal for last minute shopping...that one ingredient you forgotten to pick up. There are no crowds and long lines to contend with, like the supermarket chains. When I was there this evening, there was one other person ahead of me at the checkout counter. In & out access was superb. Cannot top that when you're in a great hurry. Another thing I love so much is the snacks galore! There were baked goods from Goldilocks, breads from Sheng Kee (red bean toast...my fave!), crackers, cookies, and other munchies your heart desires. Not just one flavor, but many variations to your liking. I prefer this little market over Foodnet, which does have a lot more produce to choose from. read more

Economy Market is one of the better Asian markets and it just so happens to be the closest to my house. Those of you who may have poked through my reviews probably notice an abundance of Asian cuisine, well what can i say my parter loves her some Asian food! Really really loves it. So she was blown away when I started to show her the Markets in the Manor where I live. Economy was the first since it's right on the strip and so we grabbed a cart and went in. The place is very big for an independent shop and is chopped full of all the wonderful delights you would expect to find at a smaller local market. You can spend a good half hour in here just looking at stuff, but it's best that you just bring a list to shop with. They're good for your quick fix shopping needs and Porter's market is right across the street just in case you need something that this place doesn't have and you, (like me) prefer to support local businesses. Economy Market has been here as long as I have lived here and it seems to have been here a lot longer than that. We in the manor just had a remodeling of our strip a little while ago and the face lift definitely has revitalized the area. This place has seen a huge influx of customers and they deserve it. The only thing is, at Economy, if you just so happen not to be Asian , like myself, (yes my last name is Lee, but it's the English surname) you might just get weird looks, like a scene kid who wondered into roosters roadhouse by mistake, (points for the local reference?). My mom is the GREATEST chef in the world. And she purchases most of her ingredients here. She has been coming here since I was probably in Elementary school. The people here knows my mom and they always make my mom feel special. They even learned how to speak a little bit of Tagalog and I always get a chuckle out of it. Now my mom has passed down some of her wonderful recipes and what better place to get ingredients then Economy Market. My brothers actually thought I did a Bait & Switch(with my moms food) when I cooked dinner for them recently haha If you want to make traditional Filipino or any Asian dishes, this place is a MUST. Economy Market is my one stop shop for produce, meat, and Asian products. I've been going here for nearly 13 years and their prices have stayed low for as long as I can remember. Everything is reasonably priced and the employees are super nice and even make an effort to converse in Tagalog with my mom and grandma with a "Kamusta" or "Hi, Ganda"...It's hilarious. Henry, Doris, and all the other employees interact with their customers and develop a relationship with them and that's something I took note of. I come in and there's always someone greeting both Henry and Doris. My family has been going here ever since they moved to San Leandro (about 20 years now.) My parents became really good friends with the family that owns the place. The owners & my parents love to joke around with each other every time we go there haha. My parents come here all the time to get their last minute shopping needs and/or asian ingredients. They have a wide variety of Chinese and Filipino ingredients here. They also carry several baked goods from Goldilocks! This place will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember playing where the rice bags stack near the window when I was younger and Henry or his son would play with me & my sisters! :) So many memories from this one local supermarket. read more

If you live close by, this place will be nice since there aren't many Asian markets in the neighborhood. At first glance, the prices seem decent too. On the other hand, unfortunately for the Economy Market, Food Net a couple blocks away on Lewelling and Wicks is much larger with a greater selection. So I've been coming here for years now. Mostly just buying little snacks and treats, Filipino to be exact. Make a long story short. Today was the last straw. Mind you I may not look like your average "Asian". I have 1" Gauges and Tattoos. I can also add that I'm wearing my uniform with a badge in plain sight. Everytime I've come in to buy something, it seems to me they are hostile towards me, regardless of them speaking in Chinese to other patrons but they do it with a smile. Like today for example, the lady in front of me was taking forever. The treats were specifically place at the end of the counter. I'm waiting for my turn and politely waited and I even pointed when asked what I wanted, mentioning that I wanted to look at the Filipino deserts at the end of the cashier stand. The cashier proceeded to ask me again then an older lady was also asking what I needed. The lady in front of me felt uncomfortable and was looking at me and the cashier. She had that look like "wtf is going on". Cashier and old lady was just trying to rush me out. So I grabbed 2 things that I liked paid for it. And this will be officially my last visit here. Thank you Cashier and Old Lady for reminding me to write this review. If your look is not acceptable by these people that work in a "Market" you will be profiled. They have no shame in letting you know how they truly feel about you while expecting to take your money. And I wonder since they have a sign that says EBT Accepted here. Henry and family have run this store forever! Henry's a great friendly guy who brings a welcoming presence when you go there. Their meat dept. is a great spot to get meat cut the way you want! I look at the pork ribs and when I order it all I have to do is tell them I'm gonna make sinigang, and they cut it perfectly for you! This is the place to go for all your Asian cooking needs. They have a meat market and a produce section. Though sometimes the veggies can be a little questionable but that is always the case in any supermarket these days. Economy is small and not overwhelming like other Asian stores. If you want a hoison sauce, how many choices do you really need? Food network foodies would be able to find any ingredient to complete an Asian inspired meal. I was so excited when I found this place in the East Bay. I had just moved over from San Francisco and thought it was the end of the world. How in the world will I find fresh green papaya and some sticky rice???? Economy market had it along with Soy Bean Milk and other Asian necessites like fish sauce and oyster sauce. The folks that work here are nice enough and remember us even though we haven't been back for a while. I wish it was cleaner though. That might prompt me to come back more often. read more

Looked everywhere, well one other store that is on my way home, for my G7 and Vinacafe coffee and found it right away. Something that I love but didn't expect to find here was Goldilocks Sponge Cake...have not had that in years! I found this asian market with yelp and I am very glad I did when I went to this nice market today. Not only this market is close to where I love but it has everything and super clean or at least much cleaner than other asian markets around this city. Not many people shop here which worries me because I don't want this to close for business! Everything is cheap price and fresh. I got 4 large yellow onions for only $1, 4 plump garlic for only $1, a bunch of broccoli 69 cents per lb and all kinds of vegetables for less than $1 per pound. It is unbelievable.
