I normally only reserve one star reviews for the worst of offenders, so it was a coin flip on…read morewhether my experience was bad enough. Guess what? My fairly new dryer broke. After watching a couple of YouTube videos, I was confident that I would at least be able to diagnose the issue. I pulled it apart, and it turned out to be a plastic pulley wheel that burnt out. I priced it out on Amazon at $10.89 for the full assembly. Because there was a load of wet clothes that needed some drying, I cruised over to Appliance Factory Parts, dawned my quarantine mask, and went on in. The dude behind the counter was on the phone selling a used refrigerator and stove - sight unseen - to some insane person. The conversation took about 15 minutes. At about ten minutes, he acknowledged my presence and said, "be right with you". Five minutes later he hung up, looked at the part in my hand, and said he had it in stock. He went into the store room and returned about 10 seconds later. He then said, "let me just ring in that phone order". After another 7 or so minutes of him messing with the paperwork and computer, I asked if he could just tell me how much it was. If it was something like $20, I'd just go ahead and wait for him to finish so that I could install it same day and make the wife happy. $52. FIFTY TWO DOLLARS! For those who want the math on that, that is a 377.5% mark up vs what I could get it for on Amazon. I hate giving Jeff Bezos money if I can support a local business, but that is RIDICULOUS! Not going back.
