We recently engaged this contractor for a project involving 1,400 square feet of flooring installation, the demolition of a partition and cabinet, and the construction of a walk-in closet. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. Communication Challenges: The project manager did not speak Spanish, and the workers did not speak English. This created significant communication barriers, requiring us to rely on a translation app to convey important details. This approach was ineffective and resulted in mistakes, miscommunications, and missed deliverables. Lack of Proper Equipment: During the flooring installation, there was no table saw available until the final phase of the project when the stairs were being worked on. This led to uneven cuts, which the workers attempted to conceal with caulk. Additionally, when a small cut was required for the kitchen floor, a worker used a utility knife and cut himself. A trail of blood from the kitchen to the garage had to be cleaned up. We provided Neosporin, but it is now missing. Please see the attached photos for reference of the uneven planks. Unresolved Floor Squeaks: Despite being told multiple times that adding a few nails would resolve the squeaky floor, the issue remains. The floor continues to squeak, indicating that the nails were not properly installed. This suggests a breakdown in communication between the project manager, foreman, and workers. Stairwork Problems: During demolition, 10 out of 14 stairs were cleaned thoroughly, but the remaining four had glue that was not properly removed. Instead of prepping the surface, new flooring was installed directly over the old glue, which caused the flooring to fail. The workers' solution was to nail through the LVP, despite my explicit request not to use nails. As a result, the nails are visible and noticeable. Even on the cleaned stairs, some areas did not hold properly, despite our efforts to let the flooring set for over 36 hours, when only 12 hours was recommended. Flooring Material Issues: We ordered 15% extra flooring to account for waste, but we still had to purchase an additional 100 square feet. The contractor offered to split the cost, which felt insufficient, especially after discovering three perfectly usable planks that were discarded in the demo bags. Attached photos verify this. Electrical Work Failures: We requested the construction of a walk-in closet, but the necessary wiring for the light switch was not installed during framing. As a result, an electrician had to cut a 10-12 foot hole in the newly finished wall to run the wires. Additionally, there was no power in the area where the partition was removed, and the requested power outlets for the new vanity were not installed. Cabinet and Lighting Issues: The cabinet was removed, and new ceiling lights were installed. However, the lights now have mismatched color settings, resulting in an unsatisfactory appearance. Attached photos show the discrepancy. Baseboard and Transition Problems: At least 18 feet of baseboard remain uninstalled, and the existing baseboards in our home are visibly damaged. We also ordered over $500 worth of transitions and quarter-round, but these materials were left unused. It appears these supplies were overlooked during demolition when old materials were placed on top of the new ones. Cleaning Concerns: Glue remains on the stairs, and paint was left on the floors. Is it really our responsibility to clean up after their work? Lack of Accountability: When these issues were raised, I was told that we "chose the wrong workers" and was given a weak, insincere apology. This lack of accountability was deeply disappointing. In conclusion, the experience was so frustrating that we simply wanted them to finish and leave our home. We strongly advise against hiring this contractor. Their lack of professionalism, poor communication, and disregard for quality led to an extremely unpleasant experience, and we would not trust them with any future projects. read more

Their Project Manager, Eleazar (Eli), won me over with his straightforwardness, trustworthy personality, knowledge of the business, and expertise without bluster or high-pressured salespitch. He listened to what I wanted for my kitchen and we quickly agreed on what can be done. On top of that, he gave me a fair price compared to the 4 other bids/offers from the others. He assisted me in every aspect of the project, from identifying the scope, purchasing of the materials that will not only look good in my kitchen but also save me money and drawing a reasonable timeline of completion, and even financing. As Project Manager, I immediately sensed his dedication to the project, making sure we are meeting the schedule for every step/phase, that the workers he sent to me performed the tasks at hand efficiently and in a timely manner. They were polite, and accommodating and kept my premises clean and "undisturbed" unnecessarily. Eli checked on the status with them all throughout the day, making sure nothing falls thru the cracks. He responded quickly to every phone call or text message, answering my questions, or fulfilling my minor or major requests, etc. Communication is not a problem with him at all. He made me feel that I am his "#1 Customer" even though I know my project is small compared to EcoStar's other big-budget renovation projects, and has many other projects going on at same time. He and his team quickly addressed any concern I have - big or small. In short, I found Eli very easy and comfortable to work with. I would say Eli and his team gave me EXCELLENT service, from Start to Finish. Now, I am enjoying my "refreshed" kitchen - I love being in it more than any other room in the house! :) Thanks to Eli, his team workers, and EcoStar!. I highly recommend them to others . I am very pleased with the services I received from EcoStar Remodeling & Construction company. I rate them at 5 stars, but if I could, I would rate them much higher! I had the pleasure of working with Nick and O.R. Not only were they very patient, but they were personable and very professional. I asked for an estimate for my bathroom, but when Nick looked at the bathroom, he advised that I should look into why I had so many cracks in the walls. He further explained that if there were cracks throughout the house around the window and door frames, I might have an issue with my foundation. He said it wouldn't make sense to invest in remodeling the bathroom if there were issues with the foundation because the cracks would eventually reappear. Nick also recommended that I get the bathroom tested for mold which I did and unfortunately, it came back positive for mold. I scheduled a date for O.R to come and look at my foundation. He took pictures and a video of the basement so I could see the damage. The pictures and video confirmed that the foundation needed immediate attention and I also had a rusted pipe that was leaking (see picture). Nick and O.R sat with me and provided different financial options. After deciding and signing the agreement, it only took a couple of weeks for them to complete the foundation work. It was an easy process. They took care of obtaining the permits from the City of Oakland and coordinated the inspections. The workers were quiet and just as professional as they were. If you are looking for a construction company I would highly recommend EcoStar. In the past, I have worked with multiple construction companies and I wish I would have met Nick and O.R years ago. I will most definitely contact them again once I am financially able to do more upgrades to my home. I could easily write more about my pleasant experience. We recently had EcoStar complete two significant projects for us, and we are very happy with the results! For Project 1, they fully renovated our master bedroom shower, taking it from a useless space to a beautiful and functional one that we absolutely love. EcoStar provided the best estimate out of three options, and the entire process was smooth and well-organized, from defining the scope of work and contract signing to tile selection and space preparation. We really appreciated their flexibility to adjust the scope of work upon our request. The team was incredibly clean, leaving our house spotless each day. All city inspections passed without issue, and communication was always fluent with periodical check-ins to keep us informed. During Project 1, their house foundation specialist, Or, identified some crucial improvements needed for our foundation. This led to Project 2, which included gutter side drain installation to the street, foundation retrofill, and re-draining. Again, the process was well-managed, and we appreciated their flexibility in scoping and executing this project back to back with Project 1. All city inspections for this project were also successful. EcoStar even offered flexible payment methods, which was a great help. A special mention must go to our project manager, Gal. His outstanding attitude, consistent attention to our needs, and thorough answers to all our questions made both projects significantly less stressful. EcoStar installed a set of pavers next to our existing deck so I could install an outdoor kitchen in that area. They were one of the best home contractors I've ever worked with, in particular my main contact, Eli. Eli was in constant contact with me, even including late on a Friday when he was out of town. He walked me through the entire process and made sure I was satisfied with EcoStar's work throughout the project. The other main item I wanted to note is that EcoStar was the first of this type of contractor I've dealt with who had a Quality Assurance person involved in the project. Pretty much every other home improvement contractor either does the work themselves individually or maybe has some people who work for that individual. In either case, there is generally no one outside of that process to "audit" the work being done. Having worked in a large corporation, I'm aware of the need for someone not directly in the chain of command to see that some level of quality is being maintained. I didn't expect this type of corporate process to be in place for a home improvement project, so I was quite pleasantly surprised when an employee from EcoStar's QA department stopped by twice to make sure things were going according to plan. (They were.) In summary, Eli was incredibly professional while also being very personal. My dog liked him and vice versa (Sydney misses you Eli!) , which is a big indicator to me of a person's temperament. He did a great job staying on top of things and walking us through the process. The crew that did the work everyday was very prompt and hardworking. They showed up on time every day and even worked a couple of weekends. As a result the entire pro took only four weeks which was a lot shorter than I thought. Another very important aspect is that they did not exceed the quoted price. This was even after there were a couple of changes to the project that necessitated additional work for them. Also they were very responsive and prompt to fix an issue with the grouting in the shower that came up after the final inspection and payment and they completely fixed it. Mike was fantastic to work with, reliable, and gave great advice and support during all phases of the project. Each phase of the project took 1-3 days-super fast!. Ample amount of workers at the site was a key factor to their success. One should always due their due diligence when time and money are of the essence. Out of three estimates, EchoStar got the bid because Mr. Nick and his crew understood the assignment. Everyone worked together to complete the job in two days instead of three. They kept the communication line open and explained the project breakdown. The estimate of cost remained the same, even with a small minor hiccup with one of the posts to support the porch roofing that hangs over the porch. When it was time to paint it, Alex brought out the color schemes and picked the best color based on what was already there, it came out beautiful. Awesome choice, to say the least. Overall, the service and professionalism displayed in the completion of the job have built my trust and loyalty in the company. If i ever neef wirk done, this company will bf my firsy choice. I worked out details of our foundation repairs and earthquake retrofit with Jonnie and Thomas. Thomas was my go to guy!! Repairs around the house, under the house and then to all the retaining walls and out in the huge yard were professionally completed in weeks!! Thomas and his army of workers were here early and stayed until there eun went down, even on record heat days!! It was quite a sight to these guys working, like ants, all over the yard but in perfect sync!! I cannot say enough about the amazing quality of all the work done! He removed our load baring wall, which home depot said they could do, but couldn't do the work. The Job took almost 4 months to do with lot of money Had I found Eco Star Remodeling & Construction sooner I would have saved lots of money, job would have been completed in a month. Eco Star Remodeling & Construction also installed electrical panel. Inspector said it was the best job he had seen. My flooring, ceiling light, and painting are great! I give this company 5 stars They did a fantastic job on all 3 projects I had them due, Nick did a wonderful job In patching up a big hole where a city tree Was, the city just cut tree down and left a hole. Nick also broke up cement in front of house and hauled it away. Next was a brand new screen room, the old one was old. The new one is from Redwood, the top is all clear panels, let's a lot of light in the kitchen is even brighter, all around fantastic work, the last thing was a new fence with a 5ft wide gate, this fence is 7ft tall all the boards all run vertical. Love it, had a few issues on some stuff. All I needed to do was to call or text Johnny it would be corrected in no time. We started out with a partial bathroom remodel (replacing the tub with a walk in shower). The work they did was great. There were a few bumps in the road, but it was all taken care of. The estimates were quite accurate. The workers were professional and always cleaned up after they were done. I couldn't be happier with the end result. I enjoyed working with Eli. He always listened to my input and offered cost effective alternatives. When there was a problem, he solved it at no extra expense to me. He is very trustworthy and personable. Some of the companies didn't return my call or called to say that they couldn't get to it for months, but Mike from Ecostar came by the next day to inspect the roof and make recommendations. He gave me a reasonable and detailed quote for the work. Because it was a smaller job, they were able to shift resources to start on it right away. Mike provided daily updates on the work and brought all paperwork to me for review and signatures. He sent pictures of the work as it progressed, and was very friendly and helpful.
