Brought guests in from Venice, Italy and unfortunately this experience was very disappointing. When we first arrived, there was no hostess at the front. We stood there for several minutes before I finally had to go find someone to get us seated. Our server was not rude, but he was not enthusiastic or attentive either. Overall, the service just felt very flat and uninspired. I had guests staying at Hotel Arista, and this was by far the closest upscale restaurant in the area, which is why we chose it. Sadly, this is not the Eddie Merlot's I used to know. My family and I used to be very loyal to the Lincolnshire location, but this location has really gone downhill. First, they were out of the sweet potato casserole. Then we were told the espresso machine was not working either. I also had to specifically ask for the complimentary bread to even be brought to the table, which should normally be standard at a restaurant of this caliber. Our appetizer was completely forgotten, and to make up for it they brought out some filet potstickers that honestly felt like a weak recovery attempt. Our bill for six people was well over $600, and nothing about the experience felt special or memorable. The food was simply satisfactory at best. Nothing stood out, nothing felt elevated, and nothing justified the price point. I would honestly rather go to Perry's or several other steakhouses in the area. The pacing of the meal was also poor. Courses were not spaced properly and the overall dining flow felt disorganized. What made it even more frustrating was that the restaurant was practically empty. It was us and one other table for most of the night, and once they left, we were literally the only table in the restaurant. It even seemed like there was only one server working. The attention to detail and level of service just was not there. At one point I had to ask for the table to be crumbed because it was visibly messy. At a restaurant at this price level, that should happen automatically without the customer needing to request it. I chose not to make a scene or involve management at the time because we had international guests with us and I did not want to create an awkward situation. But overall, this was a very underwhelming experience and a major disappointment compared to what Eddie Merlot's used to be. Get it together because to be honest with you I'm not sure how you're still in business. read more

Eddie Merlot's - Thanksgiving Surprise of the Year When I made our Thanksgiving reservations, my expectations were somewhere between "meh" and "we'll survive." I wasn't hoping for magic, just something edible and a chair to sit on. So imagine my surprise when Eddie Merlot's delivered an experience that felt like Thanksgiving had put on its fancy shoes and decided to show off. The décor was glowing, the whole place humming with warmth, and the staff made us feel like honored guests rather than strays seeking refuge from kitchen duty. Our server, Cordell, was genuinely wonderful, attentive, friendly, and blessedly unhurried. He gave us space to enjoy the meal without hovering like a helicopter on mashed-potato patrol. And the food? Oh yes. The King Crab & Corn Bisque was velvety and rich. The roasted garlic mashed potatoes and sweet potato casserole tasted like someone's very proud grandmother was working behind the scenes. The turkey was moist, tender, and actually flavorful (a Thanksgiving miracle). The asparagus and green beans were vibrant, crisp, and clearly not boiled into oblivion. We ended with the triple chocolate cake, which would've reached full glory with a little warmth and a scoop of ice cream or cream, but hey, we took the leftovers home and showed it the respect it deserved. For the record, they mix an outstanding Negroni, and the wine list means business. We walked in with low expectations and walked out happily stunned. We went for happy hour on one of the hottest days. The AC didn't work. It was not pleasant inside. Happy hour menu was limited. Portions were smaller than other similar steakhouses. They must have been understaffed that day too. Our waiter kept apologizing. Took 15 mins to get us water. Waited about 20 mins after eating to get our check and to go boxes. If you order the lamb from the happy hour menu, it's two tiny pieces. Very tiny. The sliders were okay. The interior hasn't seen any iodates recently. We sat by a broken window with large spider web hanging outside. 80% of clientele were retirees. Not a dynamic or trendy place for big celebrations. Try Hugo's, Ruth Chris as alternates. read more

I came with family to use up a gift card from Costco (25% off the meal) and had a great time with our server. We ordered: - 6 raw oysters (3/5): For almost $4 per piece, these were large in size but didn't seem super fresh. The meat was kinda all messy and we had to get a replacement oyster for 1 since there was a weird mass inside. The kitchen graciously gave us 2! - Calamari (4.5/5): Liked this! Fresh and had lots of peppers inside as well. - 8oz Filet Mignon (5/5): This was cooked perfectly, and was super tender and flavorful. - Ahi Tuna (4/5): Surprised by this one! The tuna was an interesting color, but flavor was good and yummy. There was free bread (not a fan, it tasted kind of plastic-y), and the total came out to about $150 total. I'm surprised this was my first visit to this location and I'll definitely be back! My wife treated me to a Prisoner (her favorite) wine dinner on my birthday and we had a great time. The pairings were excellent, and the food was quite good. I'll say the portions weren't large, which for a tasting/pairing is just fine-sometimes you're having to pack up 1 or more courses to take home. I'd recommend going to such an event in the future. Tonight we celebrated our anniversary at Eddie Merlot's. Unfortunately this restaurant experience was less than memorable. 95 degrees in Chicago area today and the restaurants Air Conditioning was not working. We were told the manager told his staff to tell customers it wasn't keeping up but he was not available or even in the restaurant to address concerns. What should have occurred is he should have called all his reservations and explained this so we had options. Additionally the restaurant was severely understaffed and the were hold one of those retirement seminars in the cooler room. We waited :15 for our first drink, :30 for our appetizer and another :15 for our second drink and :30 for our dinner. We got dessert to go on hour number 2. Thanks Mr. Absent manager for choosing profits over customer experience and comfort. Extremely cowardly thing to do and demonstrates a lack of leadership. I felt sorry for your servers working in these conditions and clearly covering for those that weren't there like you. While my previous visit left something to be desired my latest visit was a delightful experience. We were disappointed that they no longer have split Alaskan King Crab legs, but the manager explained that the price would be too high. They may return if the price becomes more reasonable. My wife had the filet which was cooked perfectly and a side of Eddie's potatoes which were very good. She started with the crab and corn bisque which is favorite of ours. I opted for one of the reasonably priced "Chef's Favorites". These are entrees including their side and a starter salad for a fixed price. I had the Filet Del Mar with fingerling potatoes which were very good. We finished by sharing their triple chocolate cake. We each had a slice of the cake and still had some to take home for later. Update: Eddie Merlot's reached out and showed that they appear to be concerned with their service quality. I raised this by one star and will review my next visit. I have to start by saying that my 2 previous visits to Eddie Merlot were 5 stars. I have reviewed as such. My latest visit was not good. They may have been short staffed, or our waiter was not properly trained. We decided on Eddie Merlot's for my wife's birthday since she loves their split crab legs. The first and least impactful issue was that they appear to have not marked our reservation completed when we arrived since I received an email from OpenTable complaining that I did not inform them that I would miss the reservation. We waited at least 10 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. We ordered drinks and soup to start. The crab corn bisgue was very good as we have had it before. When the soup arrived, we ordered the crab legs for my wife, and I decided to try Elk for the first time. I ordered the Elk medium rare since a quick web search said this would be best. While we were eating our soup the waiter stopped by to ask if we need anything and I informed him we would want another round of drinks with our entree. When the entree arrived, I reminded our waiter that we wanted a second round of drinks. After he walked away, I cut into my Elk and thought it appeared to be very well done. It was dark grey throughout. I had a couple bites which were dry and not very tasty. Since I never had Elk previously, I figured I would ask the waiter when he brought our drinks. When I asked my wife about her crab legs, she said she was a little disappointed that there were many smaller leg pieces as opposed to the couple large split legs she had received in the past. Because some of the pieces were smaller, they were only scored as opposed to being split. After a while I assumed the Elk would be completely cold if I did not start eating it. Since the waiter never returned, I ate most of it but saved a piece to show to our waiter. When we were about done eating a busboy stopped by to refill our water since that was all we had to drink. I asked him to please find our waiter and send him over. When the waiter finally came by I remined him that we were expecting drinks and showed him the remaining piece of my Elk. He agreed that it was way overdone and said he would show it to the manager. We ordered the chocolate cake for dessert. Our drinks and the cake came promptly. I expected to see a manager and at least get an apology for the overcooked Elk but heard nothing more about it. When the bill came, I noticed a $7 discount with no explanation. I assume they felt that 7 dollars was appropriate compensation for a ruined $59 Elk chop. If this had been our first visit to Eddie Merlot's, it probably would have been our last. We will go back at some point, in the hopes that management will ensure this type of experience will never happen again. read more

After a long week I decided to treat myself to Eddie Merlots. I was greeted and then escorted to a perfect table in the bar area. I started the evening off with a glass of red wine and a crisp garden salad. Now, I don't often order salmon at restaurants; but, I had a craving for it last night and Eddie Merlots is the place to get it. Blackened salmon cooked medium to perfection with a flavorful blackened crust, al dente haricots verts, and fingerling potatoes. Oh, and if you haven't tried their creamed spinach don't miss it. Parish and Dakota were on point for the evening as my distinguished servers. Frank, the manager made sure to make rounds, greeting customers and making sure the evening was perfect. Did you know? I didn't know. I thought it was just a streak house located near a bowling alley. When I glanced at the menu I realized it wasn't A steakhouse it was The steakhouse. The NY strip steak I had was perfectly cooked and seasoned but what got me was the texture and tenderness. The hubby got the Australian Wagyu ribeye MS7/8. It had an amazing flavor but I thought mine was more tender. Of course we ordered a wedge salad. It's a steakhouse, you have to get the wedge. But what I want to point out is that even the tomatoes were seasoned. These details showed up in the other dishes as well as the service. The sweet potato casserole had a dusting of pecans on top that enhanced the flavor without adding chunks to a beautiful smooth puree. The chocolate cake had a bit of espresso frosting drizzled on top. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness of a chef who wants to see that every bite is special. Sarah was our waitress. She was so helpful and attentive. When you go in, ask if she's there and request one of her tables. She'll make sure you have a delicious and enjoyable meal. Our thanks goes to her for making our night memorable and fun. They also have live music. The gentleman playing the guitar told us he's been playing there for 12 years. He's beyond talented. He wove together a variety of pieces of songs that in between conversation and bites we'd say to each other, was that the Flintstones theme song and Come On Eileen? One of my favorite restaurants. I may have done a review of this one before but it's worth repeating. Great atmosphere and inviting to both men and women. But your typical dark and stuffy steakhouse. They also offer a wide range of steak sizes from 4 oz fillets all the way up! It's not cheap but if you're in the mood for a new type of steakhouse, visit the underrated Eddie Merlots. I always sit in the lounge as it's way more comfortable and relaxing. Tuna tartare and bbq shrimp are musts when getting apps. Enjoy! read more

The presentation was good, but they were extremely salty. For dinner, I had the NY Strip and my wife had the filet, both ordered medium. My steak was good, although cooked a bit unevenly. One end was medium well while the other was medium. My wife's filet did not live up to the the waiter's hype about prime meat. The cut looked off, and it was, again, overly salted. For a side, we had the Eddie's potatoes. The potatoes were not cooked through, and the sauce was very runny. A poor take on a potatoes au gratin. For dessert, we spilt the creme brulee, which was easily the star of the dinner. The decor is modern, which I don't mind. Our waiter was talkative to the point it was a bit off putting. Outstanding service and Dinner. Everyone was so nice and polite. We were here for my husband's birthday dinner. I made reservations through Opentable. We were seated in a booth. I like how they have glass to divide the booths apart for social distancing. The manager checked on us regularly and our servers Jinx and James. Our experience during Christmas Eve was nothing short of dreadful. Here's the cliff notes: -took 10 mins to simply get waters poured -took another 15 mins to simply get our cocktails (extra dirty martini and Woodford old fashion) -the cocktails were equivalent to what you'd get at a dive bar. You'd expect more from a $15-$20 a drink. The old fashioned was overly sweet (barely any bourbon) and served over chip ice instead of one large cube. I asked about it and they said they ran out. For anyone that knows what I'm talking about, the ice cube is just as important as everything else in the cocktail. The extra dirty martini was not dirty at all. -we ordered the kids food during the same time of our cocktails. The kids food took over 35 mins to come out, and it didn't even come out together. They brought the French fries and broccoli (the kids sides) first. Then they brought the cheeseburger and salmon 10 mins later. Cheeseburger was fine, but the salmon was clearly undercooked. The kitchen clearly smashed a piece of salmon onto the grill and cooked the outside, but the inside was raw. This salmon was for a 14-month old. We sent it back and they brought the same exact piece back instead of cooking a new one. But what was even more upsetting, it was clearly just popped into the microwave to cook the middle part of the salmon. Shocking that what would be considered to be a nicer restaurant would decide this to be the most logical thing to do. -I ordered the $89 bone in ribeye. It was mediocre at best. The steak felt small and the bone in was almost broken off. The steak was cooked fairly well, but didn't think they seasoned it evenly. Maybe my experience sullied my enjoyment of the steak but it really wasn't impressive. Glad I decided to not order the wagyu ribeye... -creamed spinach was lacking in every way -our experience was so rough I wasn't able to try the loaded baked potato so that got tossed into a to go container -we ordered wild mushrooms and it never came -I ordered a Stella (as ordering another cocktail would've been a poor decision) and it never came Positives -We were sat early with a large sized table -The atmosphere was rather nice and festive -Server was a nice person and apologized quite a bit. She brought some fruit for our children as they were getting hungry waiting for their food. All in all, that bill was $260+ for 2 adults and 2 kids. We got an experience that was closer to a $50 night out at Red Robin's. Yum. read more
