My Mazda 5 Problem, by Ronald Peters On August 10, 2022 my 2009 Mazda 5 with 155,000 miles on it developed a transmission problem with the check engine light and the transmission light coming on with one computer code PO753 (I have a code reader), indicating a bad solenoid (drove fine with no problems before this). I had the car towed to "Eddie's Automotive Service" (which I have used before and liked them) repair shop on 5440 Webb Pkwy NW, Lilburn, Georgia to get the M5 fixed. On August 10, 2022 they called me and said that I needed my transmission rebuilt and needed a $1000.00 deposit, which I gave them. Eddie's said that it would be about two weeks to repair. It has taken over 16 months over a year and a half to try to fix. Still not fixed right. This is the Story, Just the facts as presented to me. From August 10, 2022. Week 1 Transmission removed and sent to rebuild shop. A tech said they had a hard time getting the electrical connection plugs off of the transmission. Week 3 Transmission returned and put back in M5. Did not work right. Week 5 M5 sent to transmission shop to check over and repair. Week 7 Transmission shop sent M5 back saying that it was an electrical problem. Eddie's put in a new transmission control module. Week 10 M5 still broken. Week 12 Transmission shop said that they would replace the rebuilt transmission with a new one. December, 3 weeks before Christmas 2022 Eddie's received the new transmission (so they say) but did not install it until January 1, 2023. January 2023 week 1 Eddie's say that the M5 needs a new computer. January 2023 week 4 wife went in person to talk with the shop manager who said that they needed to replace a wire and that the M5 would be ready the next day. January 30, 2023 wife had enough and wanted a new car, so I bought her one for $30,000.00 with my IRA money. February Week 1 2023 Eddie's called to say they replaced the wiring and test drove the M5 and all looked good. February 6, 2023 M5 is fixed (took 6 months) and I was also charged for a new axle and radiator Fans and shroud that I did not authorized to replace (never called me about these parts). Drive out price with deposit $4672.00. The M5 was also returned with parts missing. All of the underside splash shields missing. Took back to Eddie's and made them replace them. Took another 3 days. July 2023. Needed oil change. Went to Mike's Auto and they said that I needed all 4 engine mounts and a new AC compressor (crack mount), replaced for $1957.00. They did not think that Eddie's messed them up. Who knows? November 10, 2023. After driving the M5 for 1260 miles (I am retired and do not drive much). The engine light and the transmission light come back on with the same code as before (PO753) and the transmission going into limp mode while driving on the express way at 60MPH. 5 speed down to 3 speed. Took M5 back to Eddie's to fix under the two year warranty. All of December 2023 and January 2024 M5 still broken with no calls or remedies. February 12, 2024 M5 may need a new transmission, Eddie's said. Then they said that it did not. March 5, 2024 picked up M5. Eddie's said that they reflashed the Transmission controller and charged me for a new battery that they said was going bad for $376.00. (No option on this, they just did it). March 7, 2024 Check engine light and transmission light plus limp mode came back on. Took M5 back to Eddie's to be fixed again. (Only drove 14 miles). March 18, 2024 Eddie's said that the transmission needed a new solenoid and also an OEM transmission controller. March 25, 2024 M5 fixed and picked up again (4 months). No charge. March 29, 2024 M5 broke again. Drove 12 miles before lights came back on. Took back to shop. March 29 to May, 21 2024 M5 still in shop. They say that they are working on it. It now has a gremlin in the system. WTF May 22, 2024 I Sent letter to the owner of Eddie's Automotive detailing the problems that I am having with the shop. May 28, 2024 Received a call from George saying that they got the letter and that they were going to replace the valve body with all of the solenoids (which they did not do) and wanted to take the M5 on an extended test drive. June 10, 2024 M5 still broken. No call back yet from shop. June 12, 2024 George called and said that they found bad wires in the engine harness. Going wire by wire. Mazda does not carry the wire harness any more for M5. June 25, 2024 M5 still broken. No call back sense the 12th. August 10, 2024 M5 still broken and still in the shop. Called on August 5, 2024 and they said that they were still working on It.??? They have had the car now for 9 months. August 31, 2024 Called about M5 repair. George said that they cannot find the problem, so cannot fix the M5 and will discuss the situation with the owner next Tuesday. September 4, 2024 George at Eddie's called to say that they were getting a company in to trace the wires. This is the 2nd time I have taken my car to Eddie's, and the experience was consistent with my prior visit. In both instances Eddie and Matt were super easy to work with, and my car was fixed very quickly. The platform they use to submit your car report and assessment was really helpful and at no point did I ever feel that I was being pressured to get any other service than than the one I was there for. In terms of pricing I have always paid what was quoted, and in my opinion it is reasonable and reflective of the quality of work done. read more

Don't get me wrong, I understand that people have to make their money and can charge what they want but do your wallet a favor and shop around before going to Eddie's. Get pricing from 3 or so other local shops. I took my car to have the motor replaced. He quoted me about $2800 on the labor alone. Programs such as AllData rate a motor swap on my car as an 11 hour job. Even at $100 an hour (which is about what a dealership charges) it would bring it to $1100. I understand he can charge whatever he wants. I called 3 other local and reputable shops and they all quoted me about $1200 for labor. That's not even all of it. He quoted me about $5600 for a new motor from the manufacture. The motor retails for about $4600. Keep in mind, he would have paid less than that for it. Needless to say, I did not have my car fixed at Eddie's. I called him and told him that I decided against it. Somehow they managed to lock my keys in the car when they were looking at it. When I arrived the next day to have my car towed to another shop, my car was not ready to go. Eddie claimed that I did not give him a heads up and that there were a couple of parts still off the car. I don't know how much clearer I could have been by telling him that I was not going to have them replace the motor. read more

My family has been going to Eddie's Automotive for many years, since well before he was in his current location off Rockbridge Road. As David mentioned, the shop isn't your typical greasy hole in the wall. Instead, the reception area is clean and comfortable, a space where you don't feel out of place coming directly from work. Eddie himself is often behind the desk, greeting you as you come in. Of course, the reason we keep returning to Eddie is not the clean waiting room or even the friendly greeting. He does excellent work at a reasonable price. I've occasionally had sticker shock with a repair, true, but overall, I suspect that his prices are slightly higher at the low end and slightly lower at the high end. That is, a repair that costs $150 at another shop might be $200 here, but a repair that's $1500 at another shop would be $1200 with Eddie. More importantly, when he fixes your car, it is well and truly fixed. He stands by his work, and if ever anything were to go wrong with a repair, I have no doubt he would stand by his work and make it right. I have a 14 year old Subaru WRX with very high miles. I just moved to Liburn, and changing mechanics is VERY stressful! My nextdoor neighbors recommended Eddie's. Finding an auto mechanic that knows what he is doing and one you can trust is a difficult chore. But I want you to know your search is over if you do not think a trip to Lilburn is too far to get auto repairs that are needed and are reasonable. Nothing more, nothing less. Eddie's Automotive has ALWAYS been cheaper than what I feared after first going to the dealer and being shocked at what they said was necessary. Eddie has always beaten the dealer's price. And on one occasion, Eddie gave a different diagnosis than the dealer, fixed the car and charged me a much, much lower price for the repair. And Eddie's is no greasy, messy repair pit. The shop is clean and organized. Bottom line: I highly recommend Eddie's Automotive to get an honest appraisal on what needs to be done to repair your car--and basic maintenance service is reasonable and quick. read more

i thought i had found a good mechanic but that turned out not to be the case. these people are slimy. they forgot to put my oil cap back on after an oil change and it leaked all over my engine (now i know people make mistakes and i was understanding) but the fact that they had me get a new air filter every time i saw them was a bit ridiculous. there really wasn't any need for that and i wish i knew that at the time. never going back to a place i can't trust. read more

DO NOT take your car to Eddie's Automotive. THEY ARE CLUELESS ABOUT CARS AND UNPROFESSIONAL! I brought my car here last fall; told them it sounded different and was also past due on the 100K maintenance, after waiting for hours I was told it needed an oil change. My car has a need oil change indicator and I follow it religiously, so I know it didn't need an oil change but since I wasted half a day waiting I let them do the oil change. I bring the car back about half a year later, I AGAIN tell them its past its 100K maintenance and sounds different. I tell them perhaps I need spark plugs replaced as per the manual or maybe the timing belt needs replaced, not sure; they're the car experts look at it and let me know. BEFORE I even leave they already tell me it needs an oil change. I say it does not, since indicator is not on but they insist we should get the oil changed anyhow since its at 75% percent. I said NO. They call me with a list, needs spark plugs replaced and with that it also needs a fuel injector service, transmission fluid needs to be replaced and so do all brake pads. I say , front brake pads were recently serviced, ( about a yr ago) , why do I need them replaced again and how much life is left. He says to me, " I DON'T KNOW , you just need them all done, the front ones get used more than the back ones." I say since you 'don't know' about the brakes, lets do the spark plugs and fuel injector; he says ok. They call me hours later saying its done but they noticed the car is making an odd noise and upon further inspection they determine it needs a wheel bearing replaced. Finally!! They addressed the noise!! Only they did that AFTER i had them replace spark plugs and do the fuel injector service ( which could have waited !) but now I'm out of money !! I tell them not to do it since i used up all my money and they insist IT needs to be done to avoid wheel falling off and a possible car accident. I told them we drove the car with this noise since they saw it last fall, drove it to illinois and to school in Alabama and back to GA many times. I will gladly drive to diff car place even if i risk wrecking it due to wheel falling off on the way. I take it to Tires Plus and they confirm only back brakes need replaced since the FRONT ONES ARE ALMOST NEW!!! i ALSO LET THEM FIX THE WHEEL BEARING. read more
