Update: Went back to give them another try...HUGE improvement! We'd go back again. Food: MUCH improved on the food! My husband ordered a steak, no less, and though it was thin (normal for breakfast steak), they did a very nice job cooking it. Flavorful. My omelet was great (and ordered eggwhites too), as were the hashbrowns. VERY nice breakfast! Much different food experience. Oh, and the coconut cream pie....order it!! Service: was fine -- they tend to have young servers here, so take that into consideration. This is not a fine-dining experience (nor did we want one), and the service is friendly, pleasant, thorough, and these young women are clearly being trained up and well. Good attentiveness, and was ready when we were, at checkout. Good job! Atmosphere --and why the four, not five, stars: still that terrific diner feel, BUT keep in mind that because of this, and the friendly service, there are LOTS of regulars in the morning...you know, the retired set. This means things can get a little LOUD ("we're retired! we don't need our hearing aids anymore!" heehee). They tend to group at the bigger tables in the middle of the seating area, and that means their loudness can reach out to other tables and booths.....But hey, it all adds to the atmosphere. I understand Sundays are busy but when you are told only a 20 minute wait for 4 adults and 1 child and it turns into 45 minutes with several large groups going before you that arrived after ours and then given an excuse they are still waiting for a table for us, with added attitude from the hostess. We give them a 2 Star, been driving by this place for a year and today made the day to stop by. Now we know why it took us a year! Atmosphere is great, Service was so so. When we first got seated we got poured coffee and thought o wow free coffee too. Ordered our breakfast and was excited because we thought must be so delicious since there's so much people on Tuesday. Well we were somewhat wrong! Plate size pancake was the only thing that satisfied our taste buds. Sausage links were burnt, eggs must've been a small size (enough for my 3yr old niece) biscuits and gravy, OMG!!!!.....biscuits were huge yes, but so hard like eating an overcooked cake, gravy was so thick it could've choked me! Are coffee mugs were getting refilled without asking, which is probably ok, but so much for thinking it was free lol. Got our bill and coffee was charged, I wanted to tell the cashier that we didn't even ask for coffee so we shouldn't have been charged, but it was only a $1.88 So it was cool. This is a bonafide dandy diner. Pretty authentic retro...amen to no blasted TVs. We hit the place on a Weds nite to have breakfast-for-supper. The thick sliced bacon, the over easy eggs, the over medium eggs, the hash browns, and the coffee were dead-on perfect. Servings ample, and the plates they were bringing out for other customers looked super. The prices for the food were totally reasonable. Finally, the staff were cheerful, efficient, helpful, and each person with whom we interacted was sweet. A terrific find! Oh, and very easy to find off I-84! I have mixed emotions, I have had many good meals here but it seems like every time I get a "to go order" they mess it up. I ordered two (2) BLT's w/extra bacon and curly fries. It was read back to me, two BLTs, extra bacon and curly fries. I received 2 BLTA's. I can't go back, so I just spent $25. on "garbage" I can't eat. Eddie's is our favorite place for breakfast!! The portions are just right, maybe even a little on the too large size. The food is great, but the best part is the friendly atmosphere. From the time you walk in until you walk out, it feels like "home". I highly recommend asking for one of Shelby's tables. Absolutely the best!!!!!!! Another fantastic breakfast!!!!! I went here for lunch last week for the first time. It's a fun environment and the servers are friendly. I ordered a grilled cheese and fries. The sandwich was good, but I wasn't a huge fan of the fries. They're a natural cut fry and not overly crispy. I'd have the sandwich again, but probably not the fries! read more

The coffee was good. The french dip was great. Fries are mediocre at best. They could use some seasoning when they are cooked (salted them at the table but it didn't help). I'm also not sure of the "fresh fries ... not frozen" review someone else left. These felt more like they started off as frozen (a tiny bit on the soggy side). The restaurant definitely draws an older crowd (I think almost every other customer was 65+), though I suppose with a "50's diner" type theme that's to be expected some. read more

The only drawback to Eddie's is that they are TOO good which means they are often a bit full. That being said, I've never had to wait more than a few minutes. Haven't tried a holiday or a Sunday brunch so I can't say what the wait might be then. That's it though, everything else is just good old country style food, atmosphere and service. They even offer an ala carte omelet that you can build as you like it without paying for the sides you don't want. I don't know whose idea that was but it is a really good one. read more

After a long day of driving, we simply wanted a good, hot meal and came here. My husband ordered the steak medium, baked potato and salad. I ordered the small plate hamburger and the baked potato for $1 more. My husband specifically asked for salt and pepper right after we ordered and was told that she would bring it with the food. His salad came but no salt or pepper and we couldn't get the attention of the waitress. Our dinner order came and both baked potatoes were very hard and not completely cooked. We immediately told our waitress, and then had to tell a second waitress. The second waitress asked if the potato was hot? Well, they were warm, not hot, but STILL HARD AS A ROCK. She reluctantly decided to replace them. When we received the bill, the charge of $1 for the baked potato was still there and no apology was forthcoming. My husband's steak was rare, not medium. A 50's diner, with great service! For emphasis, this is a 50's diner, with great service! So, with that being said, I will explain. The seating is crazy. Booths on the sides, and long tables in the middle. You are very close to your neighbor if your at the tables in the middle. I heard their conversation, and could hear him eating. (Yuk!) That is too close for me. I ordered the vegetable skillet. One piece of broccoli and some random broccoli stems, over a bed of potatoes. It was like they forgot the vegetables! Being a 50's diner, it was very loud and very busy. (Totally expected that) Coffee was average. Service was great. Sometimes I think restaurants get good at what they do, and then they forget why they do it. The business of serving mass people can make the kitchen forget that people come there for the food. They come back because the food and service. When one or the other lacks, you look for options. I think if they were to slow the pace down a little, adjust the seating and remind the kitchen to make sure the plate is full of what made them famous, people would be lined up around the block! I have been to Eddie's on at least 12 occasions. I have had breakfast, lunch and dinner and have never been disappointed. It is a classic diner and the food is always excellent and the pricing is very reasonable. It has the ambiance of a fifties dinner and is decorated that way. It is very, very casual. What I really enjoy is the food. Everything seems to be homemade (hand pressed burgers, homemade fries, soups, daily specials) and it all tastes great! There is a senior menu with smaller portions and prices for us old folks. There are daily specials that are like "mom used to make". I had pot roast last Thursday and it was flavorful and savory. They offer dishes that you just can't find anywhere else in town. I always leave thinking why don't I eat here more often? The only criticism I have is that they serve only Pepsi products and I am a die hard Coke guy. That's a little thing that forces me to drink water, which is healthier anyway. Another tip is try not go during the rush hours because this place gets packed and you might have to wait a bit. I mean, they can only do so much. It is always a more relaxed, better experience if you go before or after their busy times. I will eat here again many more times. read more

Horrible first experience. Told the wait was 20 minutes so we stayed. Waited 35 minutes to get a table. They offer free coffee while you wait, but that was empty. Finally sat down and it took the waitress over ten minutes to take our order. Meaning almost an hours since we arrived. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak, which was pretty good! He ordered fruit on the side that was mostly frozen. I ordered an omelet al a cart. There was no cheese in the omelet and I was charged $1 for avocado. I don't mind paying extra, but it was such a small amount that I feel I shouldn't have been charged that much for it. I even double checked the menu to make sure I didn't simply make a mistake in ordering an omelet without cheese. Nope, it just didn't make it on my plate. A friend told me how much they really liked this place, so my boyfriend and I went for dinner one night. I'm not quite sure what happened, as our server seemed a bit out of it, but there was so much mayo on my caesar salad that it didn't really look green at all. We also got the meatloaf and a baked potato, which was another poor choice. The baked potato looked and tasted about 10-years old, but we tried to choke down what we could, since the prices were higher for dinner. We thought that maybe we should try a pancake, since those are pretty hard to mess up, but even that was somehow no good at all. We could only handle a couple of bites (although it was the biggest pancake I've ever seen...bummer). Maybe the evening crew here struggles a bit, or maybe they were having an off day. Terrible. We had a good 45 minutes worth of wait for the food. If it were up to me, I would have left long before that. It wasn't even that busy, quite a few tables were empty. It's been a LONG time since I've been to a restaurant this bad. I ordered an omelette. You wouldn't think it would take 45 MINUTES to make an OMELETTE. Let alone, a bland tasting omelette. It sucked. Oh man everyone is a critic these days! Well sit down and buckle up while I tell you about the best little diner in all of Boise town. Eddies is an authentic 50s diner that has much more to offer than culinary excellence. It is the perfect place for either a hungover breakfast on a rough Thursday morning or Sunday brunch with the whole family after church, I can attest to this personally on both accounts. At Eddies the coffee is always hot (like the waitresses) and the service is impeccable. The reason the parking lot is always full is their great service weather you're a first timer or a regular they're going to treat you like family. Are you a late riser? no matter so am I. Good for us Eddies serves breakfast all day and let me tell you amigo the steak and eggs at two o'clock in the afternoon (told you I was a late riser) is touch yourself good. If you're not in the mood for a cup of joe and a hardy breakfast Eddies can handle it with an assortment of excellent dinner and lunch options with a nice glass of cold lemon-aid that would even make your grand-mama say damn. Enough with those over priced restaurant that give you half a plate of food, not at Eddies with great portion sizes at affordable prices you'll be asking for a box and still have money to tip generously. For 4 years I have been taken care of every time i've gone in there and in that 4 years the one problem I did have I talked to Shay (the short waitress with the big hoops and smile) she sorted it out real quick calling me 'muffin' and not charging me for my coffee. Eddies is a great place to go alone if your trying to catch up on some quality you time as well, for me I just pop in a set of headphones and trust my coffee will always be full. If I could give more than 5 stars I would in fact I think I'll go there right now. The food was good, I think they hand cut their fries, and the milkshake (I got the Rocky Mountain which is coffee Oreo and chocolate) was AMAZING!
