At Eddie's you can always depend on getting good food for the right price. I know that sounds like a somewhat "hoo-hum" review, but in today's world of crappy food, Eddie's rises above and delivers. Where Eddie's exceeds the norm is in service! On our last visit we had 9 for breakfast (including 3 children) - we made reservations and waited about five minutes before being seated. The service people were great - menus, coffee, water, etc. arrived immediately. Our orders were taken promptly and, with 9 people, you can imagine the "specials" that were requested. Dearest Diner close to my house, I was very skeptical of your food and never thought twice about consuming anything from your menu; however, this all changed tonight. I have lived in the area for 20 years and walk past this establishment at least three times a week. I finally went in with my dearest friend for a quick bite. As i walked in i instantly noticed the old school diner ambiance and the classic tunes from my parents era (which i love!). The service was very prompt and we chose the bouncing booth to receive our entrees. I looked over the menu and found a very enticing item. French Dip. Mmmmmm. I had flash backs of my aunts french dip and was wondering if Eddie's had the comfort food/sandwich chops to pull it off. My good friend ordered a simple chef salad. About ten minutes later both of our Entrees arrived. Dang Gina!! The presentation was very simple, but the taste and texture was perfect. The bun was toasted with care and the cheddar cheese was melted perfectly. The meat was soft and flavorful. Then comes the Au Jus to save the day! I decided on taking a friend here for a Sunday brunch type meal as my past visits have been decent. Today was such a bad experience that I just had to write a review. It started with being seated, it took me a while to take in the decor and make sense of it all. I also don't understand why under the booths they have plants hanging above you (in my case it had just been watered and was dripping on me) seriously lol? Usually driving by I can see this place is packed, at this time about 130 pm it was a ghost town. Quickly the server takes our order and we wait, wait some more, and wait even longer. The food took 30 mins for two orders of chicken strips and fries/onion rings. She apologized and couldn't tell us why it was taking so long, it's not like they were busy. Food issues -From the pictures you can see it looks pretty decent except for the dated lettuce leaf garnish that was oxodized and had brown spots. -Onion rings were soaked in oil and not crispy like one would expect them to be. They were bland and tasted of nothing, it was exactly the same with the curly fries as well. -Sadly the chicken strips were one large strip and two tiny balls. This was unacceptable because a small strip = mostly breading. DO NOT EAT THESE IF YOU HAVE DENTAL WORK! The batter on these were so hard and thick it hurt my teeth after while, a few times I felt I chipped a tooth. Service issues - As per other reviewers you wait LONG periods of time for your order and we were no exception. - We sat near a table that a large group of people ate at and it sat 30 minutes before someone bussed it, the smell was bad and attracting the flies... not appetizing. - NO JOKE ready to leave and we have not received the check, in fact we did not see our server for 20 mins before that. My friend called the restaurant and told them and out of nowhere she appears and brings the wrong checks. The employees sort of dissappear at times or can be seen standing and talking to each other. What I am about to say makes no sense: This is not "my kind of place" but I enjoy it. (See "Update" below.) Although we're not talking a Michelin Four Star restaurant here, the food is quite good. The menu is extensive. The seating is comfortable. The ambiance is okay plus. The staff is pleasant. The service is good. The serving portions are more than ample. The first time in here, I met some folks for breakfast, which was very good ... link sausage ... eggs over-easy (and they got that right) ... hashbrowns ... bottomless coffee. I've had a good old cheese burger, served with very good fries. On an other visit, I had a salad with chicken on top. Quite good. The last time I was in there, I was very hungry. I ordered the meatloaf dinner, which was served with nice grilled veggies (not ruined by overcooking) and a baked potato. As I recall, that was $8.95 ... a deal! Although this is "not my kind of place", I will keep going back for reasonably-priced good food. UPDATE ... I just took-away two stars. Why? Well, because my last two experiences in here were not good (and I mean my "last"). First of all, they have redone their dinner menu. Now, there are two ribeye steak options on the menu. The new one is supposed to be served with roma tomatoes. It wasn't. So, why call it "steak roma"? No big deal, actually. What is a big deal to me is that the steak was awful ... tough ... chewey ... lots of gristle ... poorly cooked and tasteless. I mentioned this to the night manager on my way out (and by now she recognized me because I had been in there a few times). Rather than getting an apology, she went into a dissertation over how difficult it is to be sure that any piece of meat is going to be good and that she had talked to both the chef and the owners about the problem. Hmmmm, but that did nothing for me and she charged me full price for the meal, anyway. I thought that was truly bad customer satisfaction service. Second, the last time I went in here for dinner, I was seated in a booth and left to rot. There were waitresses scurrying all over the place ... back and forth ... back and forth ... but nobody appeared to notice that my order had not been taken. So, I got up and left, never to return. This is one of my favorite stops when I come into Boise in the morning, staff is friendly and accommodating.

Hubby and I have been on a hunt for best breakfast all over the valley and this place has been a Boise Bench staple for many years which is why we were disappointed and shocked at the food we were served. Hubby ordered the country Benedict with base of biscuits and gravy, obviously a classic and a basic item that is 1)cheap and 2)easy to make well but somehow Eddie's has settled on a recipe for gravy that tastes like paste. He left over half on the plate because he just couldn't stomach anymore paste. I ordered #3 which is a small plate of egg your way, hash browns & bacon. The bacon was the only passable thing on my plate. The hash browns were so oily that they left a pool on my plate and a coating on my lips. The eggs were so over-warmed that they were tough and chewy. Our server was so over-worked and rushed she would just talk to us while walking by our table. I'm sure she was doing her best to keep up but no matter how low the prices on the menu are (and they are pretty low here), it doesn't make up for the total lack of attention to the quality of the food. We believe we saw the owner and namesake running clean dishes which seems like an odd thing for him to spend his time doing when the kitchen is hurting so badly. We don't want to see another locally owned place on the Bench go under but unless we find out that the owner has made significant changes we won't be back. Best restaurant EVER! The staff were friendly, the service was great and the food was delicious! Not only that, I was passing through Boise on my way to Washington. When I got well into Oregon and had to get gas, I realized I had left my debt card at the restaurant. I immediately called and spoke with a lady named Allwin (not sure exactly how to spell it). I drive by this diner just about every day. It just is there. I went to the location when it was previous incarnations, and it kind of blended in to the scenery. My wife suggested we try it out. I am REALLY happy we did. We've gone a few times now. The staff is friendly, the prices are low, and the food is good. Can't ask for much more! If you want some good diner food, for a great price, you really can't beat Eddie's Restaurant. Most of our meals have been great, I did have some finger steaks that I wasn't a big fan of, but I just am not a fan of the style of breading. I'd say that is more personal, than saying anything about the quality. Other meals have been wonderful. read more

We came here for my sisters 15th birthday dinner and she is way into everything 50's. This diner had a cute atmosphere with fun music at An appropriate volume. The service was very friendly and accommodating to my sisters wheat and severe dairy allergy. Even though all their desserts included those ingredients, they surprised her with a beautiful fruit bowl and sang Happy Birthday to her! The servers and manager went above and beyond to be friendly and accommodating and was some of the best I've experienced, and you could tell they were genuine. The food was also really great! Their fries were fresh cut, and in my opinion way better than Five Guys. Portions were generous, and the hash browns were what you actually expect when you order hash browns. read more

I have eaten there for years. I had a bad experience there which has no resolution, other then not eating there anymore. I ordered a make your own omelet, just cheese and cut up sausage link. The order came out with ground up sausage, and I mentioned it to the manager. Her response.." We don't have time to cook a special order on Sundays. " They redid the order, just placing 3 eggs and mixing it a little bit with sausage and cheese. Eddies is a good ole' diner. The offer belly stickin' food at good prices. My husband and I come here for breakfast every once in a while. On the weekends, there is always short wait in the mornings, but we usually only wait about 10 minutes before being seated. The breakfast foods are about what you expect from a diner, good, greasy, and yummy. The service is good, but you can tell many of the servers don't want to be there (at least the last two times we came). I like how they drop the check off at the table, and at your leisure you pay at the counter. I don't expect a 5 start meal when I come here, I expect decent food, dishes I don't have to clean, and food I don't have to cook for that one morning. Eddie's is one of the best overall resturants in the Boise area! They have the best soups in town! It changes from day to day, but I always start every meal with a bowl of Eddie's World Famous Soup! One of my very favorite meals is their BLT with Avocado on the side! They used to have the best lasagne in town, but for some reason stopped serving it! I'm hoping they bring it back someday! We give them a 2 Star, been driving by this place for a year and today made the day to stop by. Now we know why it took us a year! Atmosphere is great, Service was so so. When we first got seated we got poured coffee and thought o wow free coffee too. Ordered our breakfast and was excited because we thought must be so delicious since there's so much people on Tuesday. Well we were somewhat wrong! Plate size pancake was the only thing that satisfied our taste buds. Sausage links were burnt, eggs must've been a small size (enough for my 3yr old niece) biscuits and gravy, OMG!!!!.....biscuits were huge yes, but so hard like eating an overcooked cake, gravy was so thick it could've choked me! Are coffee mugs were getting refilled without asking, which is probably ok, but so much for thinking it was free lol. Got our bill and coffee was charged, I wanted to tell the cashier that we didn't even ask for coffee so we shouldn't have been charged, but it was only a $1.88 So it was cool. How to get 86'ed from a restaurant! Step 1: Move to Boise and find a restaurant which has decent food, price, and atmosphere. Step2: Spend over 2 years eating at said restaurant and know how the food should be served. Generous tipping included. Step 3: Occasionally bring to the attention of servers or management how orders have been "missed." Pay full price, tip, and only encourage the restaurant to sustain/improved service. Step 4: Decide one day to visit for lunch with 5 friends, along with 3 children. Then the following occurs: You order a club sandwich. It arrives only half made and you ask for the other half. It arrives over 30 minutes later. A friend orders a Philly steak sandwich. It arrives with a Salisbury steak. Said friend asks the server why he did not get his order and the server says, "That's the way it is made." Said friend complains no more and decides to eat. Your friend sitting next you has received 2 cups of coffee while your friend with the Salisbury steak gets 4 cups. The manager or assistant manager comes to the table to see what is going on. As you try to explain about the club, said manager takes a defensive posture verbally and will not let you get a word in. She just keeps cutting you off. To top it all off, another server then comes over and, perhaps jokingly, says, "Don't make me hit you over your head with your own wreath." Being on the verge of crying, you leave, along with your friends after having the check paid by friend. Full Price. Step 5: Spouse hears later in the day about said event. Spouse gets 2 of the people present at lunch and brings the day's events to the manager on during the evening. Said manager takes concerns to owner. Owner calls that night and the situation is discussed. Owner says he will take care of it. Step 6: 2 weeks go by. You and spouse who were affected decide to try eating at restaurant again. You are told you cannot be seated and served until you speak with the owner. You call the owner. Owner is at daughters' sports event and says he will call you back. Step 7: You wait 4 days. Owner calls and leaves a message. He states he is sorry and hopes he has made "things" right. He thanks you for your 2 years of patronage and states he can no longer have us as customers. BOOM... 86'ed! Other than owner saying he was sorry for the club sandwich, no other concern was addressed. No apology, refund, NOTHING. Oh wait, we got something... we got kicked out of a restaurant where we did nothing wrong. Not only are we not able to enter building, friends and family have decided to never eat there again. They in turn have told their friends and family. I am sure this event will make an impact on people before they decide to eat at said restaurant again. Perhaps the new norm is to just accept what you are given because in the end, customers are never right! Thanks Eddie's On another note... My Army battle buddy and I were both cooks in the national guard... We know how to serve...
