    Charcuterie
    Patricia D.

My husband and I decided to get away for a weekend and stayed at the DeSoto. It was our first visit to Savannah and we weren't sure where to eat. So, we decided to sit on the lovely patio at Edgar's Proof and Provisions. We ordered a charcuterie for an app. It was huge. They even added on a mushroom pâté the kitchen was trying out. It was delicious. Perfect for a warm afternoon. For dinner I had the peach fried chicken with macaroni. It was so delicious. The chicken had a little kick to it, and the macaroni was rich and countered the spices. There was live music, patio lights, and the location is the perfect place to watch the city go by. Very romantic.

So I saw on their Instagram they had a special drink just for Pride Month.....I went to the bar and asked "for the pride drink" and the lady didn't know what I was talking about. I showed her the Instagram photo and she then told me she didn't know how to make it. She asked if I wanted the menu and I told her no I just came for this drink. I then contacted the company through instagram and I told them now disappointed I was since I drove out to their bar just for this drink just for them not to have it, they got to me rather quickly and apologized for the mix up and they would have the drink for me if I would go back. I did and the bartender said she would try her best. The drink isn't what they had in Instagram but it was still very pretty and good. I wouldn't go back unless they had another specialty drink but if I did I would make sure they actually had the drink l.

During a run around Savannah I found this place that would be perfect for Sunday Brunch. A bit away from the touristy area (which can be a good thing) we got there minutes before 11am since they didn't take reservations and wanted to make sure we sat outside. Now hear this: Bottomless mimosas for $20! The only catch, from 11am to 1pm. So be sure you get there on-time if not you'll miss out! The food is really good. The girls were interested in having a caesar salad with shrimp and a side of grits (which btw they were so amazing!). I opted for their biscuits and gravy served with two poached eggs. YUM. Maybe things change at night, but during the day this place was great. If you want to leave the touristy side of Savannah, I suggest this place.

Alyssa was our server and she was amazing. Very nice, friendly, and accommodating. We came for the bottomless mimosas and they did not disappoint. The patio area was nice with live music but we opted to sit inside. Was not too crowded and everyone helping had on masks. The food was good a tad overpriced but it was a hotel so it was to be expected. The shrimp and grits tasted great.... the Cobb salad could have had more added than the lettuce. All in all I would definitely come back

I don't know why this place isn't rated higher. We've been here for drinks twice now and have had great experiences. We came here most recently on a Saturday in the afternoon for some day drinking. We sat on their patio, and had so many seating options. They have couches with fire pits at one end, and a lot of tables and chairs that make up the rest of the spacious patio. The bar overlooks Liberty St, which is a relatively busy street, though not as busy of an area as about a block down. We came here when it was raining and really enjoyed spending time under the roof watching the traffic and weather that afternoon. Service is very kind, but drinks are pricey. Come for the patio, spend a lazy afternoon people watching

Brie. Trying to be nice here, but it was nasty.

We were waiting for a table down the street but the wait was over an hour so we decided to get some drinks here. I think bar seating would probably give you a decent experience but ours was not great at all, mostly due to our server. In looking around, another server seemed to be more responsive and on the ball but it was clear ours had no interest in being at work. It's okay, everyone has off days but at least try to put your game face on. So we sat down, a big group of us. As our server was getting the table ready, some left to the rest room so I asked if we could go ahead an order some drinks. I proceeded to order 2 drinks, straight off the menu with no alterations and some plain fries. 3 things. Many minutes later, she is taking everybody's order, and I order some poutine. She asks me what I want to drink so I told her I ordered earlier. She then explains that she didn't take down the order so I need to order again. Reminder: no one else ordered at the time since they were getting settled in and I only told her 3 things we wanted. 3. So my friend next to me basically experiences the same thing and in a hilarious way she was getting agitated with him and told him she didn't have anything to write with so that's why she didn't take the order. The next hilarious thing was that when the water came out, only 3 people out of 11 got any. It was this way for an uncomfortable maybe 5-10 minutes. In her defense, she did apologize that 2 other tables ordered at the same time and that's why things were so slow. Let me tell you, it was not that busy and there were no other big tables out there. The food was hit and miss. The poutine was actually decent and the drinks, once they came, were good and that is what saved this place from 1 star. The pig in a poke was liked by some but not others and the one I tasted had a freezer burn quality to it. Some of the cheese plate was also decent but the brie pictured was inedible. In the name of science I smelled and tasted a small piece and it was pretty awful. It smelled as if left unrefrigerated in a dirty sock locker and tasted equally as bad. There are few things that I have eaten in any restaurant that was universally disliked and this was one of those rare moments.

The restaurant is located inside the new boutique hotel called De Soto- it used to be Hilton before. It just opened two months ago in June 2017. We were seated immediately but it took the server a long time to attend us. To start with, we got the cocktails- most of their cocktails are bourbon and whiskey based, which I love. I got the whiskey sour and it was great. My friends got the old fashioned and forbidden fruit and loved it as well. I loved the variety of cocktails on the menu but the only thing that was disappointing was the service- took them forever to get us the drinks and the place wasn't even crowded. For appetizer, we got the zucchini chips and poutine. Both were average and poutine wasn't really poutine- just fries with cheese on them. For entree, we decided to get the BLT salad and it was good but nothing extra ordinary. Overall, the place has a lot of potential but since it's new, I would wait to give it another chance. I would definitely like to come back soon for the cocktails though.

    A nearly-perfect Sazerac at Proof & Provision.

This new bar and restaurant went in where the Red Lion Lounge used to be in the DeSoto Hilton. Now, I've lived in Savannah before--years ago--and the DeSoto seemed run-down then, really a blight on the Hilton chain to be honest. The building is a sixties or seventies modern juggernaut, it was sorely in need of renovations, and the Red Lion Lounge had a repute of being simply sad and tired. However, the DeSoto recently sold to new owners and I believe is no longer a Hilton property at all, and it seems many changes are afoot, leading one being the new bar/restaurant. So, I was intrigued to at the least have a drink. The theme here is Bourbons, which is fitting for the South, certainly. The interior is sleek, dark, and large--plenty of room, an impressive, cleaver, display of Bourbon bottles in a wall lit so their orangish-brown hue shines through. It appears there is a dining room off to the south-facing side and maybe some tables to the east as well? Anyways, they don't seem lacking on space. The bar was pretty busy when I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, as well, and while I presume most patrons were hotel guest some like myself may not have been. The bartenders are friendly and prompt. The menu includes--for food--a variety of expected Low Country dishes such as shrimp and grits, but I didn't order any food so I cannot comment on that. Between the food and ample cocktail offerings however, I can say they provide variety and at least whomever devised the menu had an eye for alluring, varied, and aptly regional choices. Gazing over the cocktails plus bearing in mind my fondness for Bourbon, rye, and whiskey in general, I ordered a Sazerac. The bartender made the Sazerac right before me, which was both nice and not so nice. For one, he used Bourbon instead of rye--which is passable yes, but rye is traditional and never did he ask me for my preference nor did he ask what specific Bourbon I wanted. Come on, dude, you have a Bourbon-themed bar and could probably double the price of the drink if you get me to order it with some Blanton's or one of the higher-end Jeffersons or Pappy's. At least, try. The drink he made, now, it was very good. It really was. But I felt this was very poor form for someone tending bar at a supposed craft cocktail bar focused on Bourbon to not ask for specifics when a Sazerac is ordered. Yes, it's listed as a menu cocktail, meaning you probably have a standard way of doing it, but it's also a classic cocktail (possibly the very first invented in America, btw) so you always should ask how the customer wants it made. That aside, I enjoyed it very much and also had a great conversation with a couple who are planning their wedding here in Savannah in November. It's a chill bar, it has a good location, too. I just hope they can make it slightly more polished so it doesn't seem like a substandard hotel bar: the raw ingredients for something above the water are all here, and for that and the actual quality of my drink, four stars, but some customer service aspects need rapid attention.

    Restaurant week menu

I have mixed feelings about Edgar's. I came here for summer 2017 Restaurant Week. Portions of the appetizers were fine. Portions of some of the main dishes, like the scallops, were so tiny. I read that you get 4 scallops, but even with the side of pickled vegetables, that didn't fill me up. Don't come here starving. Seems like your best bet is to eat here if your main priority is a drink.

    Table shuffleboard!

I got two words for you, s.l.o.w. And I don't mean gin...(ha, a bar joke) I mean it was alright. There are three "levels" to the place. The first level when you walk in, a place for dining. Then up just a few stairs to the bar area, then up a few more to the "library" area, where you can sit, talk maybe watch a game on the TV or play the table shuffleboard game - which is cool. The whole place is pretty open, so the levels aren't confining, yet it makes it difficult for the waitstaff to see who needs what when. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure they care. Yet it was my first visit so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

This place had a lot of potential. Great location, great looking menu, great outdoor patio. However, the food was very boring. I ordered a salad with mandarin oranges, they didn't offer a protein for it, and the salad was seriously about the size of a side salad. It took us 40 minutes to get our drinks, and most everyone ordered wine. They messed up somebody's order from our party, and she ordered a turkey sandwich. They forgot to put the turkey on it. They definitely knew that we were not happy. I would suggest new management, or training and education for staff

To share amongst the table, we ordered the cinnamon toast banane and crispy gouda grit croquettes. Thumbs up on both, particularly the croquettes which were the right balance of gooey and structured enough to eat with the delicious sauce on the side. The cinnamon toast banane was not so much toast as cinnamon rolls with bananas foster; the cinnamon rolls were really tasty and the bananas foster was good, though the bourbon flavor was strong. For my entree, I ordered one of the lighter vegetarian dishes - the mushroom tartine with tomato soup. I think it is one of the lighter dishes - certainly lighter than what my dining companions ordered - but it was still quite rich with a fair amount of gouda fondue in the tomato bisque soup. The mushroom tartine/sandwich was really flavorful with the pesto, cheese and tons of mushrooms. The restaurant is quite large with an upstairs seating area.
