I'm sure it's great if you are bringing kids here to use the water park (extra fees), but if not I think it's a little expensive and nothing special. The halls are kind of like walking in a maze and you'll likely need either the stairs or elevator a lot. Lobby is on the third floor. First floor feels like your in a cave with lousy cell phone service. The bed was comfortable and the room was surprisingly quiet for the size of the building. Except for water park pool and hot tub are outside. No complimentary breakfast either.

Candy wrappers, dust, and old food behind the night stand

Dirty sheets, Dirty curtains, Dirty picture frames, plugs that dont work, lifeguards who did nothing but watched rowdy kids almost run my kid over in the pool, cold water in the kids water area, broken water fountains in the kids water area, and the food place in the pool area being sneaky about leaving tips (saying cc charges can't be done with a tip). It's amazing how far the place has fallen since I started coming here yearly just back in 2013.

Balcony and view from two room suite

Made a non-refundable reservation for a Wednesday night the beginning of May. Then I looked at the yelp reviews... Oops! But it actually turned out better than I thought after reading about everyone's terrible experiences. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a two room suite! Yay! The lake view from the window and balcony were great! The Bath & Body bathroom products were a surprise. Rooms were clean, beds comfy. Both rooms had TV's. Workout room overlooks the lake which is a bonus. Didn't try the restaurant or breakfast. The waterpark was quiet as it was a Wednesday night before school was out. No complaints. Lifeguard staff was still super vigilant. Not a fan of water park hotels, but this one did the trick for husbo and me. FYI our room was in the Tower. I have a feeling the terrible rooms might be in one of the other two sections.

I enjoyed my time here! Booked a room in the Tiki suite, with 2 bunk beds, one pull out bed and a king size bed. I expected the room to look a bit more child-friendly, with cartoon characters or a theme. But it was pretty plain. Our view was great, we overlooked the pool area! The bathroom had a lot of icky grime in the shower which was pretty gross. I paid $420 for two nights, 8 wristbands included which was pretty great, but it just wasn't worth the money I spent for the rooms especially since I supposedly got a good discount on them. The staff were pretty nice and well informed on questions I had. I loved the pool area and the music that they played, and my children all had fun. Probably won't be spending a lot of money on a suite that wasn't so great, when I could get a small room for a cheaper price that would probably be in the same condition.

This was what we saw...closer view...toenails!

Disgusting! I cannot believe how much they charge for these rooms, yet how filthy they are! Toe nails! Yes TOE NAILS! Absolutely disgusting, and not just a few, but a pile of them! Manager was too busy (10:00 pm) to come and see. She offered to switch rooms (yet just a few hours earlier they were completely booked) so now my fireplace/jacuzzi room was to be switched to 2 queens. On top of the disgusting toe nails there was hair and soap scum in the jacuzzi (that did not produce hot water). What an absolute disappointment! When I asked the manager how something like this could happen she simply said house keeping must have missed it. So matter of factly like it must happen all the time. No apologies, nothing. I really did not want to switch to another room, it was late I was frustrated...I justed wanted them to vaccuum it up so we could go to bed. AN HOUR LATER THEY CAME TO VACCUUM! AN HOUR! I certainly won't be coming back here! Water park or no water park...I can only imagine what else was not cleaned in this room...YUCK!!

Wrappers and food on our patio - just the beginning of all the gross!

I'm incredibly disappointed!! I booked this room before reading reviews and the room itself prompted me to come back and look if it was a problem for others. We paid $350 plus tax/fees $420. We were excited when we saw the outdoor pool, mini golf and basketball court. The water park area looked nice but was very hot and muggy. Then our room. Dirty, food ground into the carpet, our patio had empty chip wrappers, crackers, unidentifiable food all over. The hotel is very dated and for being way more expensive than others we have stayed at it is 10x worse!! Rooms are small, hot even with air at 61 and it's probably 70 degrees outside. Rooms are dark, walls and furniture totally beat up. Bathrooms are gross!!!! Hair on the floor, clearly not swept or vacuumed. I could go on but do not waster your money!!! We moved here for our last night of vacation and like I said I wanna cry. Or go home. Will never stay here again.

My mom and I stayed here a few weeks back for a long weekend and it was pretty awful. Let me start by saying that we've been coming here for about 20 years now every Summer, and it's slowly been going down hill, but this time was the absolute worst, and if they don't change, we will not be returning. I'll start by saying that the girl at the front desk wasn't welcoming at all. Which is fine, I can get over that. Next, after getting into our room, we tried turning the on the TV and it didn't work. Kind of a bummer, but new batteries from the front desk did the trick. So far though, not exactly a great experience. Then comes the worst part- our room looked pretty disgusting. The carpet feels like it's been saturated with carpet cleaner without being rinsed, so you feel a film on your feet. The light switch for the bathroom was straight up nasty- caked in dirt. The side of the air conditioner where it meets the carpet was black with splatters and drips from who-knows-what, and the carpet was torn in that corner and filled with dust. Above the bathroom mirror were dried drips from some sort of liquid. Pictures of all this are included in this post. With that being said, however, the beds seemed clean, which we were thankful for. Outside of the hotel room are two chairs- great! However the sidewalk where you walk and sit was cracked with gouging holes- easily a tripping hazard. And the ceiling above the door was bubbled and cracked and looked gross (also in attached pictures). So yeah, not really a paradise of a place. One last thing- we went up to the bar to get drinks and wanted to play foosball, which we didn't end up playing because turns out we need to PAY to use the balls. As if they weren't getting enough of our money already. It's not a big deal, but just kind of the principle of the thing. Considering what they charge to stay here for the summer, it needs extreme repairs. It's gotten pretty dumpy. We'll spend the extra couple bucks and stay somewhere nicer next time because it's worth it. .....Just found out that they over charged us $70 too. It just keeps getting better, doesn't it?

Phillip S.

Carpet and wallpaper was torn. Drapes were stained and bathroom hadn't been entirely cleaned. Grime on the tiles in the shower, and something in the creases of the throne. Fridge froze all of our food overnight, and the toilet ran. We also had to go outside in the winter to get to and from the water park. No breakfast included, but a buffet that cost about 8 bucks per adult. If it would have been free it would have been okay, for an additional cost it isn't worth it. The food was subpar and all the cups for coffee were dirty. We lived in Duluth when EdgeWater was built and because of the price I always assumed it was a nice hotel, I was very disappointed with our first and last stay.

The hotel is very outdated. The 2 bedroom suites are laid out really weird. The water park is decent for what it is.

I would rate…read more4 stars but the cost outpaced the age and general atmosphere of this hotel, but the price could very well be consistent with summer demand. Beautifully set along the boardwalk and canal park commercial area, this location is perfect for Duluth visitors! The hotel and room was very clean but just was from a past era. I wouldn't say the bed was super comfy but it was adequate and the room was pretty quiet. Bathroom was spacious and uniquely designed. Elevator was super slow but stairs are easily accessible. Breakfast was the average marginal Hampton breakfast but served in a very nice windowed room with views of the water. I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member and received a complimentary room upgrade- room with view of the water. This was an appreciated perk but otherwise the front desk did not acknowledge my status even when checking in.

Our stay was Sunday night Nov 23 for the Bentlyville Tour of Lights event. Initially we had…read morereserved a Queen Lakeview, but took advantage of a website offered upgrade to a King 1 Bedroom Suite (although that's not how it was labeled) with a Whirlpool (jetted tub) for an extra $40. The room labels for the upgrades to bid on did not match the labels of the rooms on the Hilton Canal Park webpage, but Michelle was very helpful in email correspondence in decoding the rooms being offered and the process of bidding on upgrades and the obligations involved. The King Suites are normally $100 more than the Queen Lakeviews for a Sunday. Oddly a Queen Partial View was also offered for bids at $80 more than our Queen Lakeview, although it would have been a downgrade. Construction was going on, which we were warned about on our stay last year. There was the expected smell of paint, commotion, and compromises on amenities because of this. You are paying a premium for the Canal Park location with this property, the event was a fifteen minute walk. Beautiful Lake Superior was about a hundred yards away across a service road, and we pretty much had the shoreline there to ourselves early Monday morning. The third floor room was clean, quiet, and adequately stocked which was expected for the price. They accommodated us with a rollaway bed for my girlfriend's daughter, though not right away. According to Business Travel News this property was built back in 1997 and last renovated 2013. It's definitely showing its age. There were several issues that likely won't be fixed with the current renovation, like dated slow elevators, which according to other reviewers has abruptly dropped with their groups inside. They have electronic checkin with the app, which is a big reason I stay with this chain, but the app didn't control the TV or the heating/cooling control, which their promo material advertises it to. I was told this was not going change with the renovation. The shower door wouldn't close all the way, so you had to be careful about water on the floor. Also when my girlfriend tried the jetted tub the hose leaked and sprayed water everywhere. The tiny laundry room had no washers (hopefully temporary with the renovation). The tiny workout room had just three of pieces of decades old equipment, a stairmaster, bike, and treadmill. It just fit me and her daughter, we had a couple people peek in and then leave while we were in there. The pool was nice. The breakfast, not in the normal dining area because of the construction, was typical generic fare to feed a lot of people cheaply despite TV promos showing a bagel shop bagel and sliced fresh fruit. I've yet to see either of these at any Hilton property. There wasn't much for snacks, you were mainly at the mercy of machines that ripped you off. I was overcharged several dollars for a bottle of Pepsi, which the evening desk person said he couldn't do anything about, but was refunded in cash the next morning by the day desk. When it happened the evening desk person mentioned the machine had outright stolen money from others without even giving drinks. When asked about the free water for 'Silver' membership, the only tangible benefit that level gets you, the evening desk girl pointed to a basket with some tiny bottles of warm Glacier Mint to apparently serve myself. This water perk is clearly just a token thing, but other Hiltons make more of an effort. The Hampton Duluth North gave us a couple of chilled large Aquafina's in a Hilton paper bag. We've stuck with the Hilton umbrella this last couple years after some bad experiences with Wyndham's, although the Hilton options for Duluth are fairly limited. A ten minute Uber ride away is the Hampton & Suites Duluth North/Mall Area, built in 2017, for two thirds the price of this one on any given night. We stayed there for the Haunted Ship event a month earlier, and 20 years newer does make a difference not to mention a more motivated staff. There are also countless other downtown Duluth hotels from competing chains and independents, like the new boutique property Force On Fifth, that likely would offer a comparable or better experience for less money. If you have to have a downtown Duluth Hilton and are willing to spend $200-$400 a night on a room depending on the day of the week, this property will just do.

Rooms & Building - This hotel is a tower so you can get some really great views of the Lake Superior and the harbor or just downtown. Rooms are fairly spacious and include a fridge and microwave. Amenities - Crazy enough for the size of the hotel, there are two pool areas which is nice. I was staying during the week so had no issue finding a cozy spot all to myself in the hot tub on the 8th floor after work. Food - I did not eat or drink here during my stay. Very disappointed stay…read more The hotel is very spacious, tall ceilings and the suites set up. Location is nice and with easy access parking However, the hotel was not very cleaned. It made me felt weird to even stay. Noticeable trash around the rooms, bottles, caps, straws, wrappers etc around the side of couch, shower etc. it felt like the room was not even cleaned. There were wrappers in the folded blankets too. I also peaked behind the couches and I regretted my choice. We also requested crib and was confirmed the cribs will be set up in the room. No cribs were set up. We called and waited for a long time and there was no sheets, blanket for the crib. It's a pack and play and we had to come up with creative ways to cover the pads. We were also charged twice and it took about 3 weeks to clear the second charge. Had I not look at my bank charges and called, it was not been addressed promptly. We rarely have bad experiences in staying as we travel quiet often but this was a little surprising and frustrating experience

The cleaning staff shared that they are short on staff so that kinda made sense. The laundry was out of order. And the elevators were pretty dirty. But if you prioritize rooms this is fine by me. And it's winter so keeping up with that would be a battle. But our room was huge. The full size fridge meant I could buy from the smokehouse and not worry about it until we left. I am looking forward to coming back next year.
