General - I stayed here for a night for work while in the Duluth area. Location - You are right on the hill in downtown Duluth within walking distance to Canal Park and downtown's offerings. Parking is included in your stay and is found through a garage on the first floors of the hotel. So if you are staying during an popular event, this might help with parking woes. Rooms & Building - This hotel is a tower so you can get some really great views of the Lake Superior and the harbor or just downtown. Rooms are fairly spacious and include a fridge and microwave. Amenities - Crazy enough for the size of the hotel, there are two pool areas which is nice. I was staying during the week so had no issue finding a cozy spot all to myself in the hot tub on the 8th floor after work. Food - I did not eat or drink here during my stay. Breakfast is not included in your stay (boo) but there is a restaurant onsite that does offer breakfast. I was lucky that they had coffee in the lobby at least. Vibe - Easy going and super friendly staff. No complaints. Reality vs. Online - Pictures that I saw on their website and online matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms in-person. No surprises. Price & Final Verdict - If you want to be right in the heart of Duluth and not have to haggle over parking, this location is just right for you. First of all, the hotels on the hill. The first floor faces south, the second floor, where the parking ramp is and the check-in desk is faces north. It's a little confusing at first. Free parking if you're staying at the hotel. In-N-Out. Easy walking to everything downtown including Canal Park. I was here mid week in early June and they pretty much roll up the sidewalk at 8 PM. The downtown was pretty quiet. The pool was pretty cool. I didn't make it to the restaurant or the bar. The only thing I didn't like was at the smoking area was right outside the Door to the corridor to the street. And there was always somebody smoking there. And it's enclosed, so the smoke really hangs. Move the smoking area and get five stars. I had a view of the harbor, sort of, the window was a little hazy. The room itself was otherwise clean and quiet and comfortable. I had a king size bed. I stayed here for two nights. read more

Checking in was a pleasant experience, the front desk receptionist was efficient and friendly. The elevator requires a hotel key to get to a floor with rooms on it, which I liked the extra level of security. It also gets direct access to the greenery cafe and lyric kitchen through the elevator. I was on the 9th floor and the layout of the hotel is a little confusing. Took me a few minutes to find my room. They have 2 pools, one on the 3rd and 8th floor. The room was average. Only gripe is the lack of microwave. read more

11th floor lakeview room, has small refrigerator, however it had no microwave which was a bummer because I was there for 4 days. Front desk was able to bring one up but the room had no desk so I have my computer on the small table. Ended up putting it on a chair. I still give it 4 out of 5 because of location, staff and beds. You're going to Duluth? Really? I was, and made plans to spend Friday and Saturday nights at this Holiday Inn, a perfect example of a 3-star hotel. Let's start with the good: * My room was perfectly nice inside, clean and quiet, with comfortable beds. * The shower pressure was good and the water hot. * My view into a brightly lit bank parking lot wasn't great but the blackout shades worked perfectly. * Attached, covered parking garage (with in/out privileges) included in room rate. * The Greenery, in the lobby, conveniently, has food and drink for sale. The okay-so-so: * The indoor pool was charmless but big, with a kiddie pool beside it. * The (larger) Greenery sits below lobby level. It's where you can purchase coffee when the Keurig in your room repeatedly fails to work. * Hotel rates in Duluth are highest on Friday and Saturday. These two nights cost me $593 (including $75 in taxes) when purchased through booking.com. * The hotel is located in downtown Duluth, an area that is somewhat sketchy, with lots of closed business, unoccupied old buildings, and people who are a bit down on their luck. * No cleaning of rooms is done during your visit, a reflection of Covid's impact on hotel travel. The unacceptable: * The water pressure in the toilet was so low and slow that it sometimes didn't do its job. Others have mentioned the same problem in their reviews. * The Keurig coffee maker didn't work. It was replaced and the new one didn't work either. * After two days of broken Keurig machines I had to beg the front desk staff to give me a credit for The Greenery, so that I could get reimbursed for coffee which I should have been able to get in my room for free. * It was really no sweat for the front desk staff to hand me 2-$5 coupons for The Greenery, to make right the situation with the Keurigs, so why did they make me demand it? Bottom line? This is an acceptable hotel if it's all your budget allows. There are better hotels in better areas of Duluth, but they'll cost you more. It was a place to lay the head for the evening. Definitely had a beautiful view of the lake and all, but the hotel is becoming outdated as there was a musty smell in the room. It's a rather hard hotel to get to if you have friends come to visit as you pay for parking, so ended up walking to meet them, which turned out to be alright because nothing in the area (restaurant wise) opens until 4pm. The biggest issue was the air/heat system. There's a sign that gives a max and a minimum temp, and when I set it to 66° (the minimum) it would not cool the room off to 66 and the air conditioning would run continuously and would kick in and off so hard and loud...it woke me up often throughout the evening. All things considered, it was clean and the bed was super comfy and the staff was good. read more

We stopped up in Duluth for a quick 3 day trip and the Holiday Inn was a good choice! It's far enough off Main Street and Canal Park to be quiet but close enough for a quick drive. The best part was the view from the room, we always had the window open. Only downsides were that it's an older building so very small rooms, the pool side doors were very thin, and the hotel network does NOT work for business use. Nevertheless, the staff were very helpful and the hotel is connected to the skyway system for fun exploring. Overall we had a great time and will definitely be back again! read more

I stayed here with my son on the last leg of our trip through the west and plains states. Check in was easy and the front desk was very informative on the amenities offered along with how the parking worked. We had a nice view of the Aerial Bridge from the 10th floor and my son enjoyed using the 24 hour gym. Masks and social distancing being practiced. Some of the cans were no microwave, no breakfast being offered, and construction noise beginning at 6:30 am so if you are a light sleeper you might not want to stay here. I think the room was on the pricey side but it appeared to be competitive with other hotels in the area. I would probably stay here again when I could enjoy all the services they have to offer after the pandemic. read more

We stayed here one night while visiting Duluth. The parking is up the ramp and when we arrived the sign said parking was full so we could not get in the gate. We circled the block three times trying to figure out the parking until we finally called and were told that if the gate did not open we should press the help button to enter. A bit frustrating but the stay got much better after this situation. The service here is excellent! Front desk check in process awesome. Our room was clean, appears to be recently updated, and spacious. We received two $5.00 coupons to be used in the restaurant so we took advantage of a couple of brews at the bar. Lyric had an excellent selection of local beer and the service was great. We sat at the bar and were greeted with pleasant service and very good recommendations. We did not use any of the other amenities because we were here only one night but the real service came when we got to Minneapolis. We discovered that we left a sports coat at the hotel and needed it for a nice dinner event we had in Minneapolis a few days later. Not wanting to drive 5 hours round trip, we called the hotel to see if we could Fed Ex it or find another way to get that coat to us. The response from the manager was perfect. Not only did they find a way to send that jacket to us we received it the next day free of charge. We needed some extra service and the staff here did everything to help. We will return if we ever get back to Duluth. read more

Our extended family stayed here last month during graduation weekend at UM Duluth. The staff were incredibly patient and accommodating, as we had to book at the last minute due to an Airbnb disaster. Like other hospitality establishments, they still seem a bit understaffed, so I give them alot of credit for doing their jobs so well. The hotel was within walking distance of the graduation, and the rooms were very tidy and quiet (for such a big hotel), and clean to my own picky standards. Very comfy pillows, and extra towels delivered if you needed. After checking in, we headed down to the Lyric Kitchen, their pub-like restaurant, which was just what we needed after an awful day. Lots of strong drinks, and a lively crowd watching hockey. Our waiter was charming. I left some earrings in my room and McKenzie mailed them to me. Thank you, Holiday Inn! read more

Do not stay at Holiday Inn Downtown, Duluth, MN. We booked a double queen, sofa bed room for our family, which includes an adult daughter and foreign exchange student. We never had a chance to use the pool or hot tub because the hotel management decided to open only one pool area for their entire hotel. (huge hotel with 16 floors) because they are too lazy and cheap to want to sanitize two pool areas; therefore cramming in most of the guests into one area. I guess they are more concerned with being cheap than they are the safety of their guests. There was beer drinking along with babies and young children playing in the hot tub right up until closing at 10pm. We asked if they had an adult hour like most resorts and hotels we stayed at and the front desk girl just said no. Skip now to our room. The bathroom door was so hard to open our exchange student was trapped in there and needed help getting out of the bathroom (way to set an example, Holiday Inn). Plus, the door was so ragged it was an embarrassment. The toilet had to be flushed a few times before it actually wotked-had to really hold the handle down. The sofa bed had no linens so we were calling at about 10pm for linens to be brought up. When I called the front desk about my concerns, the young woman was quite non-apologetic and quite smug. Our fiasco cost us almost $200 for just one night and no discount was offered. We will NEVER stay at the HOLIDAY INN DOWNTOWN, DULUTH, MN ever again. Do yourselves a favor and spend the extra money to stay at any hotel in Canal Park. read more

Just wanted a place too go for the night after having a few drinks at the local bars (mind you they are with in walking distance takes you 3 mins too get too most of them) and turned out it was an amazing experience, wonderful staff, VERY clean, not one but 2 pools on different levels, everything is so close too the place it's unreal. My girlfriend and I only needed one bed too sleep on and it was extremely comfortable. Not too mention the view it's Spectacular especially on the 15th floor. The room space you get is also way more then you will need, you would think you would only need a bed some changing room and basic stuff but they give you that and the extra space too do what ever you want. I took a chair and moved it too the window and Snapchat my friends while looking out it. The photo only does so much justice for the view. Will most definitely recommend and for sure will be going back there! read more

Stayed here for a 3 day work trip. This holiday inn is located downtown Duluth. You have to enter the parking ramp to get to the lobby or enter at superior street level to get to the elevators to the lobby. Duluth is notorious for price gouging in my opinion. There isn't a lot of availability for hotels so they can certainly ask for just about any amount. This trip was $130 the first night $170 the second and I checkout out the third. The hotel is just ok. There is nothing special about it other than you do have some lake views and it is on the touristy side of superior street. The rooms are not special. They are decently cleaned but the walls are ridiculously thing and you can hear just about anything. I was on the 12th floor. There was a huge high school sporting event going on and the teams were running amuck through the place. There is a pool on one of the lower levels. Into the winter months a lot of hockey tournaments so plan your trip well in advance. Parking was free at check in at the front desk. read more

Hotel wasn't awful but it wasn't great. Hallway walls looked pretty dingy and dirty and everything was super outdated. There was also just an overall smell that was a little concerning for my asthma. Also the building had a weird layout where the pool was surrounded by rooms so you could hear kids running around screaming in the pool area and there was also a weird window where you could look out/into the room if you didn't have the shade down. Thankfully we weren't the ones paying for our stay but if we had been I wouldn't definitely been more disappointed. Security also felt lacking due to the fact that literally anyone could just walk into the lobby at all hours no questions asked. At hotels I've stayed in the past, usually after a certain hour at night you're only able to get in with your keycard but that was not the case here. The only good thing was they had ample parking in the garage and gave you a ticket that let you enter and exit the ramp as much as you pleased. read more

Stayed here during a peak weekend for Autumn. Parking was easy with ramp entrance right from street. Check-in was quick with friendly staff. Inviting lobby with plenty of room to mill about and seating to watch TV, hang-out, whatever. Unfortunately our room was on Poolside, 10th floor. Being that it was a busy weekend the pool was full both til 10pm and right away again in the morning with screaming kids that were nice enough to serve as an alarm clock. Oh wait, that's right, I wanted to sleep in. Room was okay. Comfy beds, clean. Thin, worn towels. Odd with the Keurig setting on top of the mini-fridge, which was sitting on the floor. Not a great set-up for the elderly or disabled. We were woken up by Middle-schoolers running rampant in the hallway at 1:30AM. Yes, "AM". Yes, a hotel staff did come and tell them they had to quiet down?? How come the Staff member didn't haul them down to the Front Desk by their ears and call their irresponsible parents to come and retrieve them?? Why in the world would Holiday Inn want the liability of one of those kids getting hurt? Falling over a balcony would be very conceivable with 13-14 year olds in a frenzy of playtime. Went to eat at the Greenery for lunch the next day. Rude staff, didn't bother to get food. Not sure if they are owned by Holiday Inn, but it's advertised in their lobby. I would say for the price we paid, I would never go back. They price-gouged based on the season. Which I wouldn't mind if if it was a better hotel. But it's an old hotel with rooms that have been remodeled but not with good workmanship. And the style with the rooms surrounding pools on 2 different floors is dated and it looks that way. If you have to go, ask for a room that isn't poolside (which by the way, is just a window, not a balcony). And the water view rooms are not worth an extra fee because the water is off in the distance, over ugly rooftops. $250 for a room that should cost $89 anywhere else. You can do better... read more

Duluth is a short trip away from the Twin Cities, and just exactly what we were looking for in a quick, overnight getaway. We wanted a place that was reasonably priced, within walking distance of the Lake and a variety of restaurants and bars, and the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Duluth fit the bill perfectly. The concierge at the front deserves five stars alone! Her name was Carrie, and after learning that it was my first time visiting Duluth AND seeing the Lake, she surprised me with a friendly, "Hey, I think I can upgrade you to a room with a lake view!" And she did! Big, big thumbs up for making this a really special experience, Carrie - this could not have happened without you. The room was very clean, and while the hotel is undergoing a good bit of cosmetic refurbishing, there wasn't a speck of dust anywhere. The beds are very, very soft and quite comfortable, and came complete with four wonderful pillows - on each bed. For a pillow hog like me, this meant 7 pillows for me and 1 for my partner. Perfection! Lake Superior was a quick 4 blocks away, and very walkable. Lots of restaurants nearby - both local and chains - and lots of great shopping spots. This is a quiet, modern, nice hotel with reasonable rates, clean rooms, and a staff that is ... well ... superior! I'll definitely be staying here again next time I'm in town. read more

I'm going to start with the pros : Skyway to canal park and convention center Negative Nancy is stealing the rest of the show: First of all, one of the beds was diiiiiirty. I pulled the sheets back and it looked like someone had already laid in it at least overnight. Speculation right? Ok. Next, I say well maybe it's just me so I go to fluff the pillows and there's what seems to be sand and crumbs or something equally gritty all under the pillows and a nice string of hair. The room is dark but I did try to take a photo of it. I mean, how disgusting is that? I have no tolerance for not changing sheets. It's irresponsible. I move to the other bed and it appears fine and clean. All right then now it's 12:30 am and I just want to sleep so I can work at 7am. To top it off the right side door from the lobby into the 3rd floor rooms needs tightening or some work because it slams and bounces loudly. While I wa sin the shower i thought someone was breaking to my room. Yes it was that loud. I will make a complaint and ask for the bedding to be changed. This is ridiculous. I'll see what the hotels response is and update it here. Update on loud swinging (right side) door: From the farthest bed and after all the activity died down around 12:30am , the noise was not that noticeable. Hotel front desk told me I was the first person ever to complain about the noise. Hmmmm really? Anyway, I ended up sleeping ok. I did go across the street and have 2 nightcaps as well as take two melatonin gummies to knock myself out though. read more

An about average stay experience, though I was a little flustered. The shuttle guy was constantly texting at the front desk in front of all of the guests. I also wasn't impressed that the comforter was stained. Due to a billing error issue, I got walked in on by three staff members. Thankfully the last staff person was female, but I had already confirmed staying an extra night and had just got out of the shower. Free parking in the ramp and them bringing up a microwave to the room without charge was nice, as were the pools and the fitness center. read more

Spacious hotel and fairly typical for a Holiday Inn. Large and spacious lobby areas. Business center with two computers and a printer. Able to print excel and PDF. Rooms are large and clean. If your room is around the pool, it can be a little loud. It's an open concept with the rooms surrounding the pool. My room was off to a side and I could still hear the pool some nights. Staff wasn't overly friendly or helpful. Almost seemed too busy to be helpful. It was very convenient to local restaurants and businesses and close to the waterfront too. read more

The reason I gave three stars is because the place is very nice inside and very comfortable. The beds are soft and you have your choice of firm or soft pillows and everything is very clean. The Greek omelette we ordered was excellent! I was excited upon arriving because I saw a keurig coffee maker! Yes! I'm going to make some yummy coffee in the morning to enjoy with my room service breakfast my boyfriend and I shared. I tried the keurig machine and it just didn't do anything. I have a keurig so I know how to use them. So I tried two more pods and nothing. We called the front desk and waited about 15 minutes for another one to be brought up to us. The second one didn't hear the water. It just pushed cold water through! Ugh! Can I please get some coffee soon. We called the front desk and then waited another 45 minutes for me to call and remind them we were waiting on it. It finally came and it looked like it was going to work! NOPE! It just turned off after making strange noises. So they brought up a brand new one still in the box and it worked finally! I don't think we should have waited that long for some coffee. It ended up being about 1.5-2 hour wait for a keurig machine to actually work. Now it's time to check out and I can't even enjoy it, I need to pack and get ready. Yay. read more

For it being grandma's marathon weekend I paid the higher prices for the convenience but was relatively displeased. My hotel room didn't have any natural light, walking to my room was a pain, my card key stopped working and had to be rebooted twice, and my AC worked very poorly. Good thing I brought a fan. I stayed here over the weekend for Grandma's Marathon. I liked the fact that they had a free shuttle to/from the airport. Also, the expo was at the DECC and there is an enclosed above-ground walkway that links the two...nice! The room was impeccably clean! (and I'm very picky). Yes, the shower/tub was not tile, but that's okay with me. It was very clean as well. The restaurants in the hotel were the typical - not great, but okay. One is Sneakers, a sports bar. I really liked the Greenery that even opened early the morning of the marathon (4:30am!) to accommodate us! For marathon weekend, they personally went door-to-door and gave us extra bottled water and granola bars :o) The ONLY negative was that the staff were efficient but didn't smile much at all. I suppose it is my own fault to assume the "holiday inn" would have a decent suite for my wife and I to celebrate our anniversary. I'll make this brief in order to get to the point for you review readers. To say my wife and I were underwhelmed would be an understatement. We booked the "Leif Erickson" suite figuring the best room they have to offer would have spectacular views of one the most picturesque cities in America. We couldn't have been more wrong. The view consisted of nothing other than their awesome, spectacular, beautiful... wait for it... INDOOR POOL! But wait.. if listening to children and adults alike enjoy a loud echoing pool from 11pm and then again at 8am wasn't enough, at least you have a MLOD filled shower to rinse off your frustrations. Oh yeah, also the ear piercing, wake up call of an ice machine is conveniently located practically connected to your room! Lucky you. The in room tub was nice. That is all. read more
