I selected Edgewater Modern Dentistry during open enrollment because of its convenient location to my home. Unfortunately, this has been one of the most frustrating healthcare experiences I've had. After my initial visit on January 19th, I was told I needed a crown and that they would send a treatment plan with details. When they failed to do so, I had to follow up in early February. On February 18th, Mary finally emailed me a treatment plan with a cost share that was $800 MORE than what my handbook stated. I immediately responded asking her to double-check this significant discrepancy. She never replied. I followed up again on February 24th and March 2nd - still no response. Mary finally responded on March 5th, explaining they wanted to use their updated CEREC machine for a "stronger" same-day crown instead of the standard D2740 crown covered by my plan. This felt like an upselling tactic rather than necessary treatment. I called on March 9th to discuss getting the standard covered crown, and was told Mary would call me back that day. She didn't. I called again on Thursday and had to escalate to their corporate office. Now I'm waiting again for a returned call. It has been almost 2 full months since being told I needed a crown, with multiple ignored emails and unreturned phone calls. The combination of poor communication, billing discrepancies, and apparent upselling tactics makes this an easy decision - I do not recommend this practice. read more

I did had Xray of my broken tooth that is usually for free, they promised pils to reduce the hurt of the broken tooth but never called Kaiser Permanente pharmacy with anything, me and my wife had driven to the pharmacy just to find out, that nobody called them.It is important that Delta Dental knows that Edgewater Modern Dentistry are thieves they only did bad Xray of my broken tooth that cant cost even remotely $608.00 BTW the dental assistant placed the metal rod on my broken tooth and they had no pain pils to give me... This has been my dentist for just over a year. A few months ago there was a tremendous change in staffing. A number of dentists left as well as hygienists and front desk. Previously I received excellent and compassionate care. In the last month I have had a very upsetting series of encounters and I will be leaving finding a new dentist. I had some pain and a filling broke off. I called and explained my situation and was dismissed and told that I should just "tell the dentist" at the next appt. I recently started coming here and it's always been a great experience. I recently moved to Colorado from Iowa and needed a new dentist, and I knew that I had a couple of cavities that needed to be filled. Dr. Ferguson was extremely pleasant and guided me towards everything and the front desk workers were very efficient with their estimate and all in all I would say that this is a quality dental office. Dr. Ferguson definitely made a stand out first impression and it seems like she knows what she's doing like the back of her hand. I had a really weird experience here, i've never had an experience like this before at any appointment. Came in for a cleaning; I was a new patient because I needed to find a new dentist that took my new insurance and this was convenient to me. Several times I had to reiterate I was here for a cleaning, was told to wait in the room after x rays and that the dentist would be in in 10. 10 minutes turned to almost an hour where I was waiting in the room, alone. Nobody came in to communicate or check on me. Eventually I was getting really frustrated and found the doctor across the room from me sitting on her phone... long story short they "forgot" about me. While I did receive a decent cleaning (considering it was free) the whole interaction was very strange and rubbed me the wrong way. Seemed like they didn't really value my time. also why is the hygenist not starting my cleaning before the doctor came in? Very strange and something felt off. I got new dental insurance this year, so I needed to change to an in-network dentist. I was able to schedule an appointment as a new patient for the next day, and requested 3 things: an exam, regular cleaning and repair to permanent retainer. The appointment took over 2 hours, half of which was waiting to be seen and I only received a dental exam and the retainer repair after requesting it 4 times. After my exam (and a long wait), i was told that i would need a deep cleaning with local anesthesia, likely over 2 additional appointments and over $1000, so no routine cleaning was performed. When I tried to get simply a routine cleaning as I had been receiving regularly every 6 months, they refused and were only interested in setting up an appointing for the $1000+ service. read more

They were well aware of my insurance coverage yet still tried to charge me for a cleaning that was well outside of coverage. Potentially needed a root canal and was charged the entire cost of the procedure before they even decided it's not what I needed, trying to get the charges adjusted has been an ongoing nightmare for the last 2 months. Went into this location a couple of months ago for a semi-annual cleaning. Was told that my braces "would be an issue" and they refused to do anything until I had my braces off. I explained to the staff that I work full-time during the week, so I'm not able to coordinate two separate meetings with my orthodontist being all the way in Highlands Ranch. My old dentist would've done a light cleaning, even with my braces on. Edgewater refused to do anything and it didn't seem like their dentists cared very much. Avoid this place if you can! This office has performed poorly in many aspects of patient care. I have discrepancies between what my insurance says I owe and what the office says I owe. I also came in to two separate appointments last year and the dentist wasn't there to treat me, appointments they made for me and wasted my time on not one but TWO separate occasions. And most recently I had a root canal and crown and there is an infection in my gum where they did the work which not only hurts and caused me to miss work and therefore cost me money, but also may jeopardize other work needed which is unbelievable. I not only do NOT RECOMMEND, but I'm also thinking of filing a formal complaint with the state. read more

Seriously, if I could give no star I would! The people who answer the phones here are catty and rude. Why would you have individuals with zero customer service skills be your front-people? I personally do not care if "the lab" was the one who screwed up. (Also, I am aware of that by the way! I'm the one having to deal with an ill-fitting denture!) That's a contractual issue between the dental office and "the lab" - which is not the patient's fault! Ultimately, it is the dental office who is being paid for services's responsibility to ensure that the job is done right. We are trusting you with our care, so common sense would say it's inappropriate for your staff to be rude or snippy in any way!! I get it, my schedule is tough, I work 7 days a week in the customer service industry. So no, I can not go days without my teeth, nor can I afford to continue to miss work for an issue that didn't exist before "the lab" screwed up! All I was asking was if it would be possible to once again use some of the soft realign material to help cushion my gums (since my denture won't stay up and is rubbing so badly) until I can get in for the hard realign do-over. It doesn't seem that complicated to me. Instead, somehow, it is my fault that my schedule doesn't accommodate "the lab's" screw up. I already took 2 days off for this! MY SUGGESTION, go somewhere else for your dental needs!! For what they charge for services, you would think they could hire some employees with some compassion! Imagine you walk in to oral surgery to have your wisdom teeth removed for a second time because the first surgery wasn't thorough. The surgeon asks you if you've ever had your wisdom teeth removed and you have to remind him that yes, there HAS been a surgery to remove them and he was the one who did it. Then imagine he tries to convince you that it's common to not get the entire tooth removed the first time.... So that happened to me in July right after the doc I LOVED at Edgewater went on maternity leave and decided to not come back. Trying to forgive the oral surgeon, I decided to visit the office again for a cleaning. Here are a few bullet points from my visit: *I was at the office for 1.5 hours and never did get my teeth cleaned. *The X-ray machine wasn't working well so they had to try It over and over and over again. I was insistent that they take x-rays to ensure they finally removed all fragments of my wisdom teeth (I was in a lot of pain because they hadn't the first time) *The entire staff seems new so the customer service isn't anything like it used to be *The hygienist and doctor both talked to me from behind the chair instead of coming face-to-face with me (awkward) *The hygienist who was trying to upset me to something I didn't even need ($571 worth of shit I didn't need) kept shining her light in my eyes, unknowingly which lead me to believe that she is delirious and there is no way I'd have wanted her working in my mouth *I saw a different dentist the day after I left Edgewater without a cleaning and they assured me that I didn't need the $571 procedure that Edgewater was trying to sell me. *I noticed a sign at the front door of the office that reads "57 days until your yearly insurance benefits run out - run in before time runs out!" which leads me to believe that this office is just looking to collect as much money as they can before the 57 days are up. Prior to my last visit, I called to reschedule (I asked to get in sooner because I was so excited to get my teeth cleaned) and the receptionist seemed to have zero interest in helping me, she lacked friendliness, and didn't seem grateful to have me as a customer. Rather, she seemed annoyed. There was a time when I'd recommend this place to all of my friends - in fact, I did have friends who visited this office but things have changed. I would suggest any & all avoid this place like the plague. Go to City Roots on 29th instead, they are AMAZING there. read more

From waiting 45 minutes to be seen only to learn they didn't get my chart, to installing a crown only to learn the tooth was beyond repair, to no explanation as to what to expect from procedures, and their new EMR system is clunky and burdensome with checkins that end up getting repeated once you walk in-- don't go! Every time I go there to wrap up this tooth implant, its just a craptacular experience. I had previously had good experiences with this office, but I just go for routine cleanings. During my last visit, the Hygienist recommended I see the periodontist because I have some mild gum recession on some of my teeth. I've had this recession for years, and it has it required treatment. I asked if seeing a periodontist would be covered by my insurance and they said "yes". After seeing me the doctor said my teeth are fine and he wasn't even sure why I have been scheduled for the appointment. And then, I received a surprise bill for $50. The whole thing feels like a moneymaking scam, I wonder if the hygienist receives a commission for the up-sell? read more

What an awful experience. I can't speak to the quality of my cleaning because I never actually got that far. I walked in and the front desk girl was so rude. Rushed through my payment details so fast I couldn't understand her. Sat down to wait for my appointment and one of the dentists was walking around the front screaming in to her phone about her car and license plates? Maybe it had been towed? I asked the front desk person if I could wait in my car as it was an incredibly uncomfortable situation. She said "suuure". They canceled and rescheduled my appointment twice for various reasons like the hygienist having an "emergency". On one occasion they canceled it only 2 or 3 hours before my appointment. I've been going to Edgewater Modern Dentistry for a little over a couple years now, and even though I've moved farther away since I first started going there, I will keep going back to Dr. Roberts and her team. My teeth have *always* needed a lot of extra work and care, which has caused me a certain degree of distress and frustration over the years. I've come to associate going to the dentist with always more expensive bills, sometimes feeling judged, and feeling like my teeth are a lost cause. I think what differentiates Dr. Roberts and her team, from office staff to hygienists, is that they leave you with the feeling that going to the dentist is a positive experience. Everyone is super friendly, charges are reviewed before treatment with no surprises, and they'll work with your individual situation. The office also uses technology I haven't seen at any other office I've been to. So the tech is good, the actual dental care itself is solid, and then they make you feel good. The front desk operations manager couldn't help me with any question I had and was super rude. I used to go to Reunion Smiles down on tower, and loved how caring and informative the staff were. When i moved to Denver, i chose Edgewater Modern Dentistry as my go to. It didnt feel right from the start. The hygienists we're usually very polite and very professional. The front desk people were nice for the most part. The problem was with the dentist specifically. The one that was assigned to me yo-yoed between complete disinterest and rudeness. They didn't seem interested in being proactive about my dental health. I finally switched insurance and decided to find a different dentist. On the first day with a different dentist, they found all sorts of issues with my teeth caused by neglect and lack of proactiveness. I'm very disappointed and I don't usually write these reviews, but I thought it was important to post this as a lesson against not acting on your own behalf and not listening to your instincts when things don't feel right. A dentist who doesn't care about you has no business taking care of your dental health. If they're not and proactive, find another one who is. Thank you. read more

I'm very fussy about hygienists and, like everything else there are good and, well, not so good.. Lixie Smith EMD's hygienist, is among the best... She is thorough, professional, and friendly and takes her time to be sure everything needed is done and done right. Let me start by saying that I love going to the dentist and have realistic expectations. The dental professionals that worked for this place were competent and seem to do a good job and the equipment was first rate (I got a cleaning in June of 2012); but there is a constant up-sale and automatic rescheduling. Even if you decline you get like four people trying to talk you into stuff you do not need. It adds to the stress and inconvenience of getting your teeth cleaned. Also... It's in a divvy strip mall (which has pot holes and reports of predatory towing) off of an urban blight street. It's on a very dangerous street. It just misses the mark when giving people quality caring care without doing anything "technically wrong" when you are sitting in the seat. It's just to much like getting your teeth done at a used car dealership, to much shenanigans and fakeness for me to go back. Also I am reading (and could just be wrong) it as odd that some of these glowing reviews are here and are so positive; I am getting a bit that old shenanigans feel with them. I got a bit of a predatory vibe (in part because all of the employees seem younger than 24) and this observation above is consistent with that. I could be making the mistake of judging the dental care industry on a level of care and patient interests that is no longer the standard or possible, with that having been said they are hurting their careers. read more

If I could give a 0 star scale I would. I have been a patient since my insurance changed 8/2018 and this is my experience: Doctors no show for appointments (two separate times), dental Hygienists have emergencies that cancel appointments, they don't bill correctly with insurance causing things that should be covered to be denied, and (most importantly) no communication from the office staff. I had to send two emails, make four phone calls (the last after being told from Sarah the office manager she would "call me right back"), just for them to say the appointment I made months ago they couldn't keep for me and instead I have to wait another two weeks. This information that I had to chase down from the office, is three days before the appointment. I don't know about you but I plan things in order to get things done and three days before an appointment is considerably too late for changes...especially changes that I had to find out because of my forward efforts not theirs...and because I had family coming in I wanted to check and make 100% sure they wouldn't stand me up a third time with me coming in the office and them not being able to provide a standard dental appointment. This is ongoing and constant. Billing issues is where is started, doctors literally not being there for my set scheduled and confirmed appointments *note that I am using the plural form as it happened twice where I showed for an appointment and no DOCTOR was there to take me*, not to mention some issues with smells in the office and cleanliness that I won't get into detail about here. Bottom line, do NOT recommend this office. I do, however, recommend one of the workers Ashley, as she is exceptional at her job. She's great, but good luck with the rest of it... read more

I had my usual 6-month cleaning here last week. I showed up early after work and I got my cleaning early, which was a pleasant surprise. The front office staff greeted me right away and I got all my documents signed and taken care of quickly. My exam and cleaning were excellent. Dr. Jozsa always treats me professionally, and I appreciate that. Once everything was done I scheduled my next cleaning in 6 months! I'll be honest, when I read a few reviews about this place being a little dodgy with their billing and procedures, I was apprehensive. But it turns out I had absolutely nothing to worry about because this place is great! I hadn't been to the dentist in a while. Long enough that I was certain that every tooth in my mouth was going to need some sort of work on it. Delightfully, that was not the case! It turns out, my mouth wasn't as bad as I thought. Huzzah! I didn't get off scott free. I have a few larger procedures that need to take place, but they had the gal in billing sit down with me and go over all of the costs by line item and explain them all to me. I saw Dr. Roberts last week for my routine cleaning. She was patient and answered all my questions, including walking through the teeth whitening process. I waited no more than 5 minutes before being called back. And since my insurance carrier covers routine cleanings, checking out took less than 1 minute. AVOID THIS PLACE. They overcharge you for services and it takes multiple phone calls and months to get your money refunded. Asked for them to refund our HSA card, was told no problem and they mailed a check instead. Still waiting for the 2nd refund. Billing/refunds not handled in office so they just tell you they will check on it and call you back but they never do. Asked them if they can just bill instead of requiring payment at time of service since they don't charge correctly based on what your insurance covers and was told no. They want your money upfront but takes forever for you to get your money back. There is one front desk person that is extremely rude. Showed up for my son's first appt there on time, no one at front desk. She came out about 10 minutes later and had the audacity to tell us she would have to check if dentist could see us because we were late. I had a terrible experience with this office. At first I was impressed - $39 for a cleaning, modern office, new equipment and everyone seemed friendly. Things got weird when I made my appointment. They told me to allow 90 minutes for my exam and cleaning in case I needed additional treatment? Huh? I've never had a simple cleaning take that long and also never had a cavity or anything, but thought, whatever. They took a ton of X-rays and the technician told me about some build-up under my gum line. She mentioned how a deep cleaning would be a good idea and the specialist would come explain that to me. Well, an HOUR and a HALF later after seeing a dentist, the "deep cleaning specialist" and a billing person, I feel like I'm buying a used car. They want me to spend $700+ dollars and also scare the crap out of me that my teeth are going to fall out. BUT, at this point everything seemed so rehearsed and made me very skeptical. Especially because I've had pretty much perfect teeth my whole life - never a single cavity. But they weren't even going to clean my teeth as I needed to come back ASAP for this deep cleaning and they could do it then. I put my foot down and said I wasn't leaving without a cleaning, so they did the cleaning and made it very clear that they "didn't get it all". Over two hours later my teeth were clean but my head was spinning! Last week I went to another dentist a friend recommended. Spent another $79 to get an exam, but got the reassurance that my teeth were fine, they would monitor some deep pockets, but there was nothing requiring treatment now. So I just want to warn anyone who goes here - if they suggest treatments and you are at all unsure, get a second opinion, please!! read more

Stay away - they are crooks. I would give zero stars if that were an option. My husband went here with a dental emergency. After discussing with the office manager what was and was not covered, we started a payment plan. The following month, I made an appointment for a regular cleaning. At the initial appointment, I was seen by a doctor and told that I needed to schedule my cleaning for when a hygienist was available (which I found odd - I guess I was there for a "consultation" but wish I had been told I would need to come back when I made the appointment). I was also told my top wisdom teeth needed to come out immediately as they were coming in and could possibly "take over the root system of my molars" I found this weird too as I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed several years ago and my top ones were not presenting any sort of problem. I was pressured into making an appointment with an oral surgeon and I also had to schedule my appoint for the cleaning. So I came back a few days later for the cleaning and was told I needed a "laser treatment" to the gums for a deep cleaning (fyi, not covered by insurance). After my cleaning, I was required to watch a short video on wisdom tooth extraction and confirm my appointment for the surgery. I was put off by the pushiness and ended up canceling the surgery a few days later. 2 months into the payment plan for my husband's procedure, we received a notice from them that we owed them more than originally estimated. Before we had a chance to call them and discuss the new payment plan, our account was turned over to collections. After a few angry voicemails, I finally got a call back with an apology and an assurance that everything was taken care of and that had been a mistake on their end. The next week I received another collection notice. Unacceptable. We ended up paying off the balance completely and have vowed to never return. I made an appointment for Sloan's Dental (very nearby) for my next check up and I could not be happier. I mentioned my experience about the laser treatment for my gums and the wisdom teeth, and was told that neither one of those was necessary. Their office manager and billing coordinator are GREAT, and even called my insurance company prior to my first appointment to make sure everything would be covered.
