I am a parent my son goes here now. We came from Stevenson Ranch. West Ranch High School. Anyways since enrolling my son this is his 3rd year now. He has excelled here getting almost straight A's Ms Nolan especially has taken my son under her wing making him feel a part of the school with his classes. You couldn't ask for a more dedicated caring teacher not to mention just a nice, kind, loving person. The staff as a whole has been Awesome too bad my other two sons couldn't have come here they would have had a better education by caring teachers and amazing staff. I would highly recommend this school to new families moving into the area. They have amazing programs my son is taking French also. In other schools they offer Spanish and sign only. My son graduates this year and will continue to CC and Edison helped us with that also preparing my son for the next phase of his life. Thank you so much to ms Nolan and the staff. Hit or miss with the teachers. The one calculus teacher in the school frequently messes up when trying to go over examples with the class. I am certain she wouldn't be able to pass the AP test. She needs to retire soon because she cannot teach. In class today, we were going over a new concept, l'hosptial's rule that is somewhat confusing. Yet, she decides to give us video explanations and guided notes instead of actually teaching. In addition, it is unfortunate that the Mrs. Handel, on the first week of school, was denying students entrance into the main office to speak about changing schedules. When I came to the door, I was speaking to another staff member, and she said to this staff member, "Just tell him no." I find it displeasing that instead of having a conversation (which is her job), this woman decides to shut down students and have a power trip. Other than that, most teachers are acceptable, but unfortunately, some of the staff doesn't care about their jobs or the kids in the school. They don't care at all about the kids read more

I attended here in the early 80s and now I have a daughter who attends and a son who works at EHS. Its always fun to come back and see the changes, growth and excitement through out the school. World Geography meeting in the library, was nice being in there and not on detention. LOL ... Don't tell my daughter. read more

Edison special education is trained to lie in IEP MEETINGS. Tgey literally will tell you certain things aren't available for testing, when in fact it's the students rights. Example I needed my son tested for autism at school and was lied to about what they can provide. Only to learn they lied to my face. Also special education teacher Edison do not read the IEP'S. I was told to my face in a meeting. Edison is not oid 4 special students and they get pushed aside. I wasn't made aware my son was behind until it was literally too late to fix it. Thank God for Arizona. They saved him and he graduated on time. read more

Came here for their summer rec swim at $2 per person. Think the condition of the pool needs some work, but other than that - it's great to have recreational swim options available in the summer time! read more

To the ignorant person below me reviewing (BJ) who obviously has no personal experience with this school and so SHOULD NOT BE REVIEWING the school, I say please remove your review. It's an obvious ploy to help your "reviewer status" on YELP and get people to click the "funny button" for your silly first review - you go so far as to ask people to click funny...now that is LAME. For you to nervously Google search anything bad on Edison after I questioned the authenticity of your review, and to come up with this -- "The claim focuses on the fair use of equipment for the girl's track and field program" -- which is the basis of the inquiry, is grasping as straws, dude. The purpose of Yelp is for people to review that actually have personal experience with a place, not to randomly review places so you have more reviews under your belt as a Yelper. Again I ask if you have personal experience with this school which you are giving one star. My guess is no. That's why you had to search for any bad press to show here to justify your one star. That is not the purpose of Yelp. I do have personal experience. My son is currently a Senior. He has had wonderful teachers (a few not great as with any school) but overall the community of the school is fantastic. The sports are top notch. The kids have good comraderie and school spirit and the staff seems to genuinely care for the kids. There are always issues with high schools - no high school is perfect, but my son loves his school and that is what is important. And hey BJ - the school is walking distance to the beach. That should at least get it one more star, eh? read more

I'm reading all the reviews and one just made me feel ill. I hope that the teacher that made a comment about suicide was removed from school. As a parent I am really concerned about my children's education, and one thing is to educate kids about suicide and another to make sick jokes about it. That teacher had no ethics and was very unprofessional. Yelp doesn't allow me to leave a comment without a star, and since I don't know this school, and there's 5 stars I want to be fair. read more

I have a senior and a sophomore at Edison. It's been very disappointing here. If your kid is self driven and motivated, they will do fine. If your kid hates classes and fakes effort- they should thrive, and likely be scooted right through with easy grading. I have never experienced such incredible "just phone it in" teaching. My oldest three are adults, I am no amateur when it comes to teachers. Many educators are great, but I have personal experience with a very lazy English teacher we caught just pushing out grades to pass kids. My poor kid got her this year and I am appalled at her negligence with not even calling her by the name she goes by, and not knowing that I was dying of S4 cancer all year. (Although the guidance counselor told all of the kids teachers) I pulled through, and now may my kid catch up and pull through her less than stellar education. This teacher believes "76% class average will get you into a four year college" she feels that is good enough because most kids don't capitalize "I" and "this isn't AP- we grade easy". But wouldn't it be wonderful if she was engaged in her work and helping kids? She said when a student tutors another student she "Doesn't bother them". My kid said kids trade and grade. She has a lot of help to be so lazy. Mr. Elliott, the Vice Principal does seem to care. The outcome remains to be seen. I was told today in a meeting with him that they are used to parents asking to go easier on kids. Remember this isn't AP. Is she saying ONLY AP kids need to know how to write a paper? Because she gave a thesis 86% that was about a 4th grade level effort. This was a HUNDRED POINT extra credit "graded easy" (no need to correct grammar, formatting or capitalize your i when referring to yourself) WHO GIVES A KID WITH A LOW D 100 extra credit points? I will tell you who- an English teacher right now passing along our kids so that they can believe horrible work is a b. And my daughter has phoned in this class all year. Today I know why. Her example is beyond belief. Please feel free to IM me for details. And this teachers name. This is very serious and hope it gives you pause. We get to choose our school in HB. We chose poorly. We have had several heartless educators and one cruel nurse that humiliated my older daughter in front of a group of her male peers over finding a tampon. I can't wait to leave Edison. I wonder if we should try one of the other schools. Between thoughtless nurses, lazy educators and a huge issue with the girls track team gender harassment by the boys coaches a couple of years ago ( we were at the school board over that) the culture is overall lazy. this school is absolutely terrible, if you do not play a sport don't even bother coming bc u will be treated like u are freaking invisible. the staff acts like they all have sticks so far up their ass that it will never lodge out. the condensed act like they all did a line of cocaine before starting their damn day. everyone sucks and is mean and bullies other people. and if you think your kid is perfect bc they play a stupid sport and get "good grades" you are sorely mistaken, i would not ever send my child to this school if it was the only thing keeping me alive! Complaints about student experience on campus (classes/departments): They only care about sports. They waste funding almost entirely on sports, especially football. There is no real support for the electives and classes here at Edison, unless they're AP or "advanced" classes. They encourage AP students to stay away from taking art classes (the few that there are, which are also the least supported classes even though that is the department where the teachers care the most and are genuinely caring/nice to students) because you can simply get your art credits during the summer online; students, even if they are doing poorly, are told to not to drop their AP and sometimes favor students to take on more AP classes instead of pushing/allowing them to take art. The number of students that are attending Edison continues to fall while Huntington and Fountain Valley are on the rise because they offer more classes and are better funded. Complaints about the school's condition: According to students, "the school looks like a prison." There are a lot of classrooms that should be remodeled or updated. Depending on where the classroom is, the internet could be down; which there are a handful of classes that rely on using the internet to do their work. Bathrooms are a problem, some of the stalls don't have functioning locks. The parking lot is problematic, there is only really one exit for students to drive out of and the parking lot itself can be updated to fix lines/"road". For a school, so sports forward, the pool is an honest joke-- from what I am aware of they don't even have their water sports teams have games there, they go to Huntington High and use their pool (which the same applies for varsity football). AC is a HUGE hit or miss, depending on where you are the AC doesn't always function properly and can be freezing cold even in winter. On one occasion towards the end of the school year, the AC was down in the gym and girls' locker room, in which students had to tolerate the uncomfortable heat. The food is also overpriced, you can get better food from the middle schools in the area. Overall: For an affluent neighborhood, it is depressing that the parents don't help pitch in funds to improve the school-- unless it's football or other sports. If you are considering sending your child here, don't bother unless the only thing they care about is sports (but really football). Huntington High is great for those who are more interested in the arts, and have something to offer for those who aren't; which all the classes are supported and well funded. Fountain Valley is also great for students interested in sports (but their football team is not as good), their AP/"advanced" classes are also great and they offer many interesting classes that you definitely won't see here at Edison High School. read more

I am a coach at Edison for the first time this year and I must say that I am impressed by everything. The staff and students are all very welcoming, the classrooms are clean and well kept, the gym is huge and overall there is a true sense of unity here. I came from LQHS and to be honest I am a little jealous. Lol. I appreciate the support that the students get here, I mean their booster club is on point and I love seeing so many parents come out. All in all, nothing but positive thoughts regarding Edison HS. read more

Overall good school except that I've heard one of the teachers told the Class of 2013 that they should use the ropes/chords they get at graduation should be used later on in life when they commit suicide. That leaves a terrible taste in my life. Suicide is not a joking matter. Other than that teacher, everyone is friendly except i would not recommend going here if a parent/stepparent/relative works there. read more

My 10th grader transferred to Edison from an out-of-state school due to an employment relocation. The only reputable teacher was Ms. Nolan who took an interest in my son's abilities and continued to challenge him in his studies. Ms. Nolan was the only teacher to communicate with me on his successes. It was very troubling to find out at years end that my son who has always succeeded in his academics had taken a turn for the worse. I believe besides Ms. Nolan none of the other teachers took a concern about the quiet new student in the back. There was absolutely no communication via the counselor to the teachers on a new student who did not have the 9th grade instruction of Edison's curriculum. It's mind boggling that a teacher would not contact me via email of academics not being up to standards. I sadly agree with other reviews that if your student is not enrolled in a sport your child will be overlooked. What's ironic is my son is a very good basketball player yet the P. E. Teacher never encouraged him to try out for the Basketball Team. Needless to say, we are transferring back to our previous state and high school where teachers actually take an interest (Ms. Nolan excluded) in wanting to instruct their students to success whether they are in a sport or not. I only regret my son will not be having the instruction of Ms. Nolan in her other class next year. read more

I attended a high school wrestling tournament (with my daughter who does BJJ and is interested in wrestling) here called "THE BEACH BASH". It was the weirdest thing ever. I was seated by the area where the Trainers were taking care of injured wrestlers when I saw literally two feet in front of me one of the MOMs in the Wrestling Booster Club https://www.facebook.com/ehswrestlingboosterclub/?fref=ts was screaming at the top of her lungs at some young male trainer saying "You're being rude to me!" because the young athletic trainer had to run by her to help an injured wrestler on one of the furthest mats. Then she started yelling at people near her and saying she'll get her husband who runs the tournament as if that young Athletic Trainer who was supposed to be helping injured high schoolers needed to be intimidated more from doing his job, Then I saw her husband a guy telling he was a cop and openly tried to pick a fight with 2 people. This place is crazy. Will never take my daughter near it...not a place for kids. read more

Edison beach bash was the worst wrestling tournament I have attended EVER. The booster who was running the tournament should not because no wrestling experience what so ever. Saw the booster parents gang up on a coach from something that was not his fault. The head guy in the microphone using his job profession as a off duty officer to throw the coach out of the gym. Totally and utterly unprofessional, and the wife of the off duty officer he claims to be making uncalled comments to the coaches an parents of the school calling them "ignorant"!!. Attacking the coaches character on how can they raise kids being from where they are. Small children were present behaving in that manner is insulting. A tournament should be run together with the coaches and booster together. Not the booster strong arming everyone in a bad manner. What I was told his name Ed LaLonde that was being extremely rude and his wife saying derogatory comments to the athletes and coaches. read more
