Not a great school for bike riders. Cops are being called every day and are giving tickets to kids for no reason.

Not to mention, a (Karen) teacher lost it when I told her she could not take my personal belongings. The only bright light is Mr. Will Johnson, the math teacher. Principal's lame, more focused on his image than safety of children or discipline. He expelled a kid for publishing an AI-generated post of him! If you want your children to learn actual facts about the world, this is not the place! They were bringing political signs during the last Open House in 2025 and having a demonstration outside the school. You have the choice between activists teaching your kids or real teachers! Let me be blunt: * The teachers? Half didn't know how to teach, the other half acted like breathing near them was a personal offense. * The Wi-Fi? Better chance of sending a smoke signal. * The food? A tragic mystery that even science can't explain. * And Mrs. Gooner? Don't get me started. She gave off "evil fairy godmother with tenure" energy. Some say she was a witch. I say she is one. On a serious note -- I was verbally and physically mistreated while at this school, and nothing was done about it. It wasn't just bullying from students -- it was the way staff ignored it, brushed it off, or even added to it. I left that school with real scars. DO NOT send your kid to Sowers. If you care about your mental health, safety, and basic human rights, take my advice and go to Dwyer. The difference is night and day. Sometimes there are even dead animals.

I am certain she wouldn't be able to pass the AP test. She needs to retire soon because she cannot teach. In class today, we were going over a new concept, l'hosptial's rule that is somewhat confusing. Yet, she decides to give us video explanations and guided notes instead of actually teaching. In addition, it is unfortunate that the Mrs. Handel, on the first week of school, was denying students entrance into the main office to speak about changing schedules. When I came to the door, I was speaking to another staff member, and she said to this staff member, "Just tell him no." I find it displeasing that instead of having a conversation (which is her job), this woman decides to shut down students and have a power trip. Other than that, most teachers are acceptable, but unfortunately, some of the staff doesn't care about their jobs or the kids in the school. They don't care at all about the kids

For example, one teacher gave my daughter an 89.9% in a class and rounded it down to a "B," dropping her GPA from a 3.8 to a 3.6.Additionally, the school's handling of citizenship grades and disciplinary rules felt targeted. My daughter, who maintained a 4.0, received an "N" in citizenship--disqualifying her from honors recognition--on the exact same day her teacher chased her down the hall for dress coding, despite other students wearing the same outfit without issue. When we transferred my son to another school, he immediately returned to earning "A's" in harder classes. Unfortunately, attempts to resolve these issues with the principal and the school board were met with indifference, and I know many other families with similar experiences. It appears this school environment only works well if parents are heavily involved in volunteering, staff gifting, and willing to accept unfair treatment without pushing back, as teachers may take frustrations out on the students.

Instead of protecting students, certain staff members contributed to an environment where bullying and emotional abuse were ignored--or worse, encouraged. When issues were brought to the attention of teachers or administrators, they were often dismissed, minimized, or turned back on the student. Some staff spoke in demeaning, sarcastic, or intimidating ways, which made students feel unsafe and powerless. Rather than intervening, adults in authority sometimes sided with aggressors or treated students as if they were the problem for speaking up. The lack of accountability was extremely damaging. Policies against bullying seemed to exist only on paper, with little to no follow-through. Students were left feeling unheard, anxious, and afraid to attend school. A school should be a place of learning and growth, not fear. Until this institution takes real responsibility, provides proper training for staff, and genuinely listens to students, it fails to meet even the most basic standards of care and safety.

This isn't even personal. Some teachers need to get fired. "Teaching" the same method of decades yet learning conditions were awful in one chemistry class to the point I could not pay attention without feeling stressed by the mess. Not only that, the teacher would introduce new concepts everyday with little to no elaboration, repetition, or awareness for learning styles. He presented summaries of things in the unit and the class was highly unorganized.. half the kids cheated in his class and they still cheat. They need to have a system for yearly quality checks for classrooms.. it benefits everyone. I'm not going to call out bad names. Mr. Lee, though, is one of the best chemistry teachers if not of the entire nation, the entire school. I transferred to his Chem Comm class after I had an F in Chemistry (now called chemistry honors) class. I missed school many times due to mental health and medical reasons, but his class never was distressing. Mind you, I told my counselor to transfer me out three weeks at the start of school.. where I already had a C.. she said no. Absurd. Spanish teachers are great. English teachers are efficient. Another thing is that when I was new to the MUN program in my freshman year, it was inefficient and I had a C average for my MUN class because organizing everything was hectic, teachers learning how to mix MUN with casual learning. This year's MUN was great and I think it's amazing, great investment. School food is good for "school food." I wouldn't recommend /this school/, but I would recommend some teachers here. Not only that, they didn't give my sister her graduation paper because her "name was too long." It's four syllables/words, last name six letters, the rest are each only three letters. So ridiculous. I am disappointed with how the school year ended for my daughter…read more She started the year with excellent grades. Midway through the year, she became very ill, and her grades began to suffer. I worked closely with her to help bring them back up, and she was able to improve significantly. While not every grade returned to an A, she was no longer receiving failing grades in her academic classes. The exception was Physical Education. I was unaware that my daughter was struggling with feeling comfortable changing clothes in front of other students for PE. I regularly asked her about her PE grade, whether she was changing for class, and whether she was participating. She consistently told me that she was. When I eventually reached out to her PE teacher, Mr. Jones, to better understand the situation, I was informed that she was not changing for class and was only partially participating. After speaking with my daughter, she explained that she was participating in PE activities but was only partially changing because she felt insecure about changing in front of other girls. I immediately contacted the school and spoke with the principal to address the issue. While a solution was eventually arranged for her to change in the nurse's office, I was disappointed by the interaction. I felt that the conversation was rushed, and the principal's tone came across as irritated and lacking empathy for a situation that was clearly causing my daughter distress. As a parent seeking help for my child, I had hoped for more understanding and support. What concerns me most is that despite identifying the issue and putting a solution in place, my daughter still ended the class with an F. As a parent, there is only so much I can do when I am not physically present at school. I rely on teachers and school staff to communicate concerns when they arise so that we can work together to support students. I believe there were several missed opportunities for intervention. Why was I not contacted earlier when it became clear there was an ongoing issue? Why wasn't my daughter pulled aside to discuss what was preventing her from fully participating? Why weren't counseling resources or additional support offered if staff recognized that she was struggling? If lunch detention was being considered as a consequence, why wasn't parent communication considered as a solution? My daughter is a good student and not a troublemaker. This situation appears to have been driven by insecurity and discomfort, not defiance. I am disappointed that more effort was not made to understand the root cause of the problem and involve me sooner in finding a solution. I also cannot ignore the concern that my daughter may have been overlooked. As a parent, it is difficult not to question whether every student is receiving the same level of attention, support, and advocacy when struggles arise. Regardless of the reason, I believe my daughter deserved earlier intervention and better communication from the school. Parents and schools should be partners in helping students succeed. In this case, I feel that communication, empathy, and support from the school fell short, and I hope future students facing similar challenges receive earlier assistance and understanding.

She also confiscated my huge pencil that i had brought in as a joke and she never gave it back. The first year i was there, we had a nice firm principal that was fair and treated everyone equal. But then this guy principal came the next year, i think his name was Mr Johnson.
