Park Ridge established a new event this summer, and when I heard about it I wanted to check it out…read more Four times over the summer, once each month, it takes place at the same location as the PR Farmer's Market. There's no entrance fee, but of course the vendors cost money. When you enter, you have to get a wristband if you plan to have any alcohol; they will check your ID to confirm your age, so bring that if you want some spirits or wine. The other option is to purchase a "passport", which, as of 2024, costs $26. The passport gives you the chance to get a sample at the various booths that are offering alcohol. It's my understanding that you can't buy from those booths--just get a sample--but there is one booth where you can purchase individual glasses of wine/beer. I have seen at least a couple of these vendors here at the farmer's market but there were several that were new to me as well. I ended up getting a few different things for us for dinner; I picked up something from the food truck selling Philippine cuisine, and I got a burger for myself. I also had to get an elote for the babe since she's a huge fan of corn. My burger was fantastic, even after bringing it home. It was a smash burger that had Munster cheese and apricot jam. Makes my mouth water thinking about it a few hours later! I didn't try any of the BBQ plate from the Philippine place, but my significant other said it was really good... and the little one seemed to like the pork bun I bought for her. I was really pleased that the prices, though a little high, really weren't bad for this sort of event. The portion sizes were good for the money--I was stuffed after finishing my burger. There was a band playing this evening and they were pretty enjoyable. The organizers had at least two compost/recycle/trash stations set up, which was helpful (and I was impressed they include the compost option!). I also appreciated that there were several tables set up for folks to listen, eat, and socialize; there were also folks who brought their own chairs, too. Overall this was a fun event, and I'm looking forward to returning for the 2024 finale in September.

I think my two year old liked seeing cows for the first time, and she seemed surprised by the chickens. Perhaps more than anything she was happy to see the barn cat since she said goodbye to it. We went into the farmhouse and it was interesting to see. She wanted to go upstairs but I was afraid that she was going to wan the to carry her up or down, so I vetoed that for this trip. The playground was probably the biggest hit. It's a small playground with some slides and a sandbox and maybe some other equipment. She had a blast on the slide and I was happy there were no swings because I would have been stuck pushing her for 20 minutes. There's a parking lot across the street, and for this event there was overflow parking in the church lot next door. I will keep an eye on events happening at the farm to see if my kiddo would enjoy coming to something else here.

When we visited most were from Michigan and there were so many peaches, sweet and juicy. Most of the fruit vendors offered samples of apples. There also are flower, fresh meat and seafood vendors. There are also a few food trucks, acai, Mexican and coffee. It was crowded, which was great to see the support for a local market. Majority of the vendors are the regulars, with a few of them pop in every once in awhile. I would say check their official FB or IG page to see who are coming for a particular weekend so that you don't miss out on them! I notice one of the vendors is quite popular and customers always line up for it. "Gotta B Crepes" has the biggest tent on the corner of Long and Irving Park. Their crepes are made-to-order. The owner does his one-man show by the grills while striking fun conversations with every customer he services. "Gotta B Crepes" has a large menu, I would say, ranging from sweet to savory, with some seasonal offerings. I personally think it's somewhat messy to eat at a park, so we usually make it the last stop for our Farmer's Market trip and head home to enjoy them with a cup of coffee. We haven't really stopped by every vendor, as we only show up if our 3-year old son wakes up early enough to participate any morning activity. In other words, we would visit once or twice every season for the most part. Nevertheless, I love having a Farmer's market in our neighborhood park and most of them do accept cashless payment options nowadays! Customer parking is available near the pool on the northeast corner of the park. Often times street parking is available on each perimeter. Overall, it makes a good choice for an easy and economical family outing.

I only saw three fruit/veggie booths but that was more than enough for what I was looking for. Coffee, chai, horchata, agua frescas.... Plenty to drink. Live music. And the highlight for me was a visit to the @vargobrothersferments tent to get some kimchi and garlic sauce and a kombucha. Check them out!
