Holy Gobdols! I have wanted to try Edo II for quite some time and I am so happy we went there for family dinner night tonight. The restaurant is very small and cozy and you feel like you're having a family meal at home. The service is friendly, attentive, and unintrusive. Our kids have seafood and nut allergies and they graciously reviewed what we ordered for them to make sure. We had miso soup appetizer with kimchi and assorted vegetable tidbits. For main course we had 3 sizzling Gobdols: the kids shared the organic brown rice with pork, my wife had the shrimp, and I had the bibimbab with pork. They were sizzling, fresh, colorful, flavorful, and delicious. The kids aged 9 and 6 finished their Gobdol without any urging and they kept saying on the way back home how much they loved it. Came here for lunch with a coworker and I'm still not surprised why Edo remains top tier in Danbury. The lunch specials are phenomenal and you get an INSANE amount of food for the price you pay. I highly recommend the Bulgogi lunch box if you're looking to be completely satisfied, and for $13 who wouldn't? Not to mention, the owner came out to make sure everything was up to par. Thumbs up. We stopped by after visiting friends in Milford, CT. We are Korean Americans, and we frequent Korean restaurants in Flushing and Koreatown in Manhattan. The hot stone bibimbap here is on par with some of the restaurants we like to go to in K-town. Cozy place with friendly Chef. Fantastic Korean food in an intimate, homey environment. Very friendly owner that's on-site constantly. It really feels like you're being served in someone's home. I've only tried the Korean food and a very small amount of sushi. Sushi seemed OK, especially for the area, but the Korean food was amazing enough to order again and again. Since there are barely any Korean options in Connecticut in general, I find it difficult to order anything else here. And everything has been fantastic. I don't think you could order anything off the Korean menu here and be disappointed. There isn't much for good Asian food in the Danbury area, and this is very much an easily overlooked gem. This was a great place. We really like the Stone Bowl bibimbap. I got the beef version and it was very tasty. The spicy sauce was just slightly sweet - exactly right. Often in the USA I find the sauce too sweet compared to Korea. We loved the vegetable mix and the rice caramelized (burnt) nicely along the bowl. We also got the tofu soup with shrimp and seafood in it. It was good and even compared well to good places around LA. The side dishes were very good. It is a small place, so will not work well for large groups above 4 or so. read more

Delicious food, lousy service, a wire in food. -The waiter didn't understand we wanted TWO orders of gobdol (why would two people share one dinner? We don't look that skinny) -When the missed second order came out 15 minutes later (!!) we had to ask for the banchan (side dishes) that went with the dish -had to ask for a refill of hot tea AND (here's the one star-kicker:) -my husband was chewing and found a 1.5 inch piece of WIRE in his vegetables. When shown the wire, they apologized, "maybe from scrubbing vegetables" but did not offer to redo the dish. The wire was big enough and dangerous enough that it could have done some serious internal damage had he not been following his grandma's advice to chew his food well (would therefore have killed me--). At the end of the meal, a restaurant with better customer service would have comped the dish, if not the entire meal. If not to avoid a review like this, at least to perhaps keep a customer coming back. After we paid the bill in full, we were offered a small half-dessert (a single mochi disc) to share. Unfortunately not only were we disgusted by that point, we are off sugar. So if you want delicious food, bad customer service, and like playing Russian roulette with your insides, Edo Two is for you! read more

I am not an expert in Korean food, since all I've had that's Korean came from Orlando's Izziban Sushi, which has very tasty bibimpop and bulgagi dishes. Based on this, I was very eager to replicate those culinary experiences with this little Korean restaurant in Danbury. Unfortunately, it was a bust. The place is very cute and very, very small, undoubtedly being a mom-and-pop type of restaurant, which are excellent finds sometimes. The young girls working as waitresses looked like they were relatives helping out the family. They were graceful and helpful enough. However, the gorgeous decor and the friendly staff were pluses that could not save the disappointment of the dishes. First thing we noticed is that the prices were higher than expected. The cheapest entrees were around $15 bucks with the majority being higher than that. That wasn't necessarily what we could afford at the moment, but we were already there and hungry. There were cheaper bento-boxes-style lunch specials; unluckily, their lunch specials only worked on weekdays, and it was a Saturday. I ordered a hot chicken bibimpop (a bunch of veggies and rice that come unmixed and you mixed them inside the steaming hot stone pot) and my girlfriend asked for the glass noodles called chapchae or japchae. The chapchae wasn't bad. It had some flavor and the glass noodles were equally weird and interesting. My girlfriend did end up liking it, but it was not good enough to warrant double digits in price. The bibimbop that I so craved, quickly shattered my hopes for a favorite Korean place in Connecticut. Simply put, it was flavorless. All the elements by themselves and combined just tasted hot, but with an extremely neutral flavor. I desperately looked for fixes, by putting soy and squirting the contents of the mysterious red bottle on the table, which tasted like some mild chili sauce. Even with my own personal touches, I could not get any flavor out of the dish. It was hot in temperature, so I did get a nice facial and pore cleansing, but my palate was crushed in sadness at the impossibly bland dish in front of me. The chapchae was better, so we ended sharing that one rather than finishing my entree. I feel bad in giving this rating, because that place looks and feels like it should be a hidden gem, but the dishes just lacked the pizzazz that the reviews alluded to. I don't know if it was an extreme day off, or if it wasn't the regular cooks, or if there's just not much competition in Asian cuisine around there. Maybe, this is what the authentic food tastes like, but I'd rather have whatever Izziban Sushi concocted, because they put out great stuff for similar (though cheaper across the board) prices. Local yelpers let me down on this one, unless for some reason, I just got a bad day. Hopefully, that's the case and their food quality is really as great as others say, because the restaurant's look, feel, and pricing deserves top-notch Korean flavors. Also, the water that they gave us was oddly offered without ice and it tasted like bad tap water. That's the kind of water I would expect from buffet single $-type of Asian restaurants, not one that strives to be more than the norm. Will not come back. read more

For what this place lacks in square footage - it makes up for with it's unique environment and authentic food. I went with a date and can't wait to go back! Korean food is great for enjoying with friends because it's all about interaction: with your food (i.e. lots of stirring and mixing your own bowl) and with your friends in sharing the many complimentary banchan (side dishes). The cozy but clean and modern environment feels like you're having dinner at your Uncle and Aunt's house - if your Uncle and Aunt were Korean, cool, and amazing chefs! We could easily feel the warmth radiating from the actual couple running it all - and even when we were the last ones there, we never felt crowded or rushed. Everything Jay makes here is delicious. One of my regular dishes is his vegetarian bibimbap - a sizzling rice bowl chock-full of rice, vegetables, tofu, and an egg. Perfect for a chilly evening. His sushi is fresh and masterfully presented. He always comes out to chat with us. The restaurant is quite small, and often packed, so you might want to call ahead and reserve a table. This is a really terrific little Korean/Japanese restaurant. Owned and run by a charming couple. It was romantic, comfortable and warm. We ordered the pancake first and I thought it was ok, I have had better. It was a little heavier and I like them with more of a lighter bite. We ordered the Gobdol. Seasoned vegetables served in a sizzling stone rice bowl. Nice mix of veggies with shitake mushrooms, mixed with a really interesting chili sauce. I loved the crunchy caramelized rice. This was a really good dish. We also enjoyed the Jaeyuk-gooi. Grilled pork tenderloin w/spicy sauce onions and peppers. This was really great, just short of too spicy to eat, or in other words perfect. All of this was served with several small dishes or banchan. I especially liked the kimchee. We had a couple cups of tea and the bill came to $44. Many of the reviews note the price. We had more than we could eat and found the quality remarkable. Maybe it's a couple bucks per entree high but I think this place is well worth it. If we had skipped the $8 pancake the bill would have been just fine and we still would have had enough to eat. Wow, what a nice little place! Emphasis on little....ok emphasis on nice also. I went around 8pm on a Tuesday so the small size was really no problem for our group of four and we sat down right away. It would have been worth the wait even if there were one. BYOB, was fine by us since my group came prepared since the other couple had been before and the waitress brought us out pint glasses right away. Everything was great. My friends are vegetarians and there seemed to be plenty of options for them too. The Korean Pancake was a nice started plus some basic sushi rolls and edamame. I have to admit I'm not all that familiar with Korean food but I really wanted to try the rice dish that comes in the stone bowl (sorry forgot the name) basically like supped up fried rice. It came out steaming hot (and stayed that way the whole time thanks to the bowl) topped with all kinds of good stuff and a choice of meat. I chose to have mine with pork and it was a nice touch although it wasn't a lot of meat there was so much other stuff that it was OK. Long story short my entrée was a great new experience for me. Entrees came with some accompaniments that I was not familiar with and some kimchee. Like I said I'm not all that familiar with Korean food but I have had other kimchee's I like better. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive and the sushi chef (owner?) came out to check on us a few times and was very nice. I wasn't impressed. I've been to the Edo in Norwalk which is run by the same family and that restaurant is big, friendly and quite yummy. This one unfortunately is very small and while they do much of the same menu except truncated, it was missing something for me. The staff wasn't that attentive even though we were one of two tables there. And they didn't understand what my husband wanted when he explained he wanted a specific dish on the menu but just in a bowl with sriracha. The rolls I got were also leaving something to be desired and they were the regular spicy tuna crunch, salmon avo and philly type rolls. I have recently been turned onto Korean food due to some new owners of our corporate cafeteria. The food here is outstanding. My husband and I have now been here 3 times with 2 different friends, one of whom lived in Korea for a few years. Words cannot express how flavorful and interesting the Korean dishes are on the menu. The atmosphere is nice, although the dining room is small the flavors in these dishes are large. Being from New York and having food choices at your fingertips is awesome, but coming to CT every weekend and having limited options was a bit difficult until I found Edo. We had dinner at Edo II while we were up from NYC visiting family in Danbury. My Danbury family highly recommended we try this restaurant. I'm so glad they did! It didn't look like much from the outside, but once we went in we had a wonderful experience at Edo II! The inside is quaint and I just love the small sushi bar at the front of the restaurant! The food was delicious, authentic and presented beautifully! We had some sushi which was terrific, the harumaki was nice and crunchy, and I had the bibimbap gobdol which was fantastic! I've been to both Japan and Korea and have to say the food at Edo II is spot on! I also love that it's a local mom and pop place! The restaurant is small, so if you want to go during peak hours I would definitely suggest a reservation. Best sushi in the Danbury area, hands down. Extensive variety of creative rolls split into two lists - raw and cooked. I have yet to have one that was less than amazing. The Korean dishes are also very tasty and authentic - I highly recommend the gobdol bimipbab. Jay, the owner and sushi chef, is very accommodating for those with gluten sensitivities and since everything is made to order, can modify menu items accordingly. Also love that this place is BYOB. Hands down, one of the best restaurants in the area. The sushi is fresh, elegantly presented, and delicious. The Korean offerings are off the chart. Don't worry if you you are adverse to spicey food. Everything is available mild to wild. And the lunch boxes are the absolute best value anywhere. I have no idea how the can offer such a large lunch at such a modest cost. The restaurant is small, seating capacity extremely limited, parking also limited (thanks in part to new restrictions to parking in the adjacent lot) and the lack of acoustical treatment makes for an often noisy dining experience. None of this matters. Jay and his wife make everyone feel at home, and offer delicious food at reasonable prices.
