So, this the more romantic approach for this review My date and I LOVE sushi, so she suggested Bambu. I've had Bambu before but only from takeout. This time it was to meet with a first date. I walked in and instantly I fell for the entryway. Modern but also had the feeling of nature with the rocky wall and relaxed entrance. My date arrived and we were seated near the bar. The waitress came and took our drink order: a scorpion bowl for two. It came out fast and was very tasty. Warning: the bartender KNOWS how to make a scorpion bowl that doesn't have the alcohol taste or burn. It was very well made and we both enjoyed that. We ordered a lot of sushi... but none of it had rice. Sashimi deluxe, sashimi roll, Naruto roll. The food came fast, the presentation was excellent, but most importantly, EVERYTHING was delicious and fresh. We ate our dinner while also talking and having some laughs, both of us happy about the experience altogether. They lit the fire in the fireplace (the temperature was dropping and it was also very windy), and it got warm FAST. The sushi stayed cold, so it was perfect. We went to the bar for some hot sake, and the bartender (the same guy that made the scorpion bowl), was great. He was quick with making sure things were set and was conversing with us. Bartenders do a lot, but he was able to chat and still do his job quickly. All in all Bambu helped us have the perfect first date, one that I will NEVER forget! We will definitely come back again! On the outside it doesn't look like much but the inside as pretty nice. The service was the best. Our cook and server had a sense of humor and shoe accurate with our order. Our combine order included 1. Combination dinner - I ordered steak and shrimp (steak was cooked to perfection). He got steak and chicken (he was happy with the flavor of the steak) 10/10 2 Drink - Scorpion Bowl for 2 - drink at your own risk. We had hibachi on 10/29/24 and this place has deteriorated. With no one else in the restaurant, this should have been a clear indicator. The soup was loaded with sodium and tasted like one of those products from a bag. I couldn't eat it. The meat was scant and low quality. My steak was cut into tiny pieces to make it appear like there was more, but the original piece was tiny. It lacked flavor and the texture was off. Chicken tasted old and tough. Yum yum sauce was horrible. Preparation was loaded with seasoning in an attempt to revitalize the flavor, but it did not work. We were staying in an AirBnb in New Fairfield and wanted some hibachi. We made a reservation for 7pm for a Friday night and it was very socially distanced inside. To my surprise, the hibachi chefs still did a nice show even just for my fiancé and I. We ordered the kani salad and salmon avocado roll, both of which were good (don't expect the best tasting sushi here though!) For hibachi, I got the salmon and steak combo with fried rice (+$2). My fiancé got the chicken and shrimp combo with fried rice too. I liked how the dishes came with the standard salad and clear soup, as well as lo mein, veggies, and extra shrimp for both. Came here for some drinks and dinner on a Saturday night and had a good experience. We originally wanted to do hibachi but it was packed so we decided to sit at the bar and just ordered hibachi there instead of waiting. I had a lychee martini which was made perfect. The sushi I ordered is a bit tinier than I'd like, more like a snack size. The hibachi was really good, flavorful and the sauce to go with it was good. Overall a good experience just wish the sushi rolls were so tiny. read more

Made reservations for 6;30 for Hibachi. we arrived on time. Hibachi dining area was full. Appeared no one was as yet served food. We were told 20 minute wait, at 7:15, were told 10 more minutes. Clearly after viewing the dining room, this was not going to happen. They had overbooked , and were not being truthful. We were about to leave, but, they offered to seat us in the dining room and serve Hibachi. We noted numerous other parties waiting to be seated, with no movement of exits from the Hibachi area. We were served Hibachi, food was cold, salty, and too much teriyaki sauce. We have been to Bambu numerous times, but appears the service, and quality of food is deteriorating. Nice Japanese steakhouse in Danbury. Hibachi is always great and you kind of can't go wrong but there are obviously some things that set places apart. Everything was tasty and we had the angel roll to start which had a really great combo of fish and delicious roe! The edamame was also nicely salted and the beef negimaki is a delicious must try appetizer. For my hibachi I got steak and salmon. I didn't order shrimp because the meal always comes with two pieces (typically) sometimes a few more. This was clearly the case here but then the chef just gave my brothers girlfriend extra shrimp. My boyfriend didn't get any and neither did my brother. Neither of them really cared but I would've loved to steal my boys shrimp and it was weird I got the typical two pieces but he did not. We also asked for the rice to be well done and extra crispy. Our waiter went to do this, got the surface area really good but then didn't let it crisp. It was pretty lightly fried if you ask me. Overall a great birthday meal for my sister and fun and entertaining! Great service in terms of drinks and clearing plates. Last time they added cucumbers to my tuna roll, I spoke to the manager who said he would right down in the "book" the credit for my entire order - I call today no book exists and they had to call him and no answer. Unfortunately, the entrance smelled strongly of cigarette butts. The food came quickly enough, but it wasn't anything special or superb! They gave me a yelp discount of 10 percent but my partner says he won't be back as it wasn't anything great. Such a pity. The waitress does have a very thick/ strong accent that makes it very difficult for us to understand her questions or statements. The gentleman waiter was a lot clearer and easier to comprehend, but not very polite. As a place parading as a Japanese restaurant, unfortunately, it is not authentic. I can only review for Sushi, not for Hibachi, as that is what we had. The atmosphere and decor are mediocre, the service most inattentive, and the sushi was not fresh or appealing. We got the "Boat" so as to fry a door deal of variety. Sadly we didn't like most of of so we didn't even finish it. The rolls included in the lunch menu for the most part include the protein only, so if you want to add avocado, cucumber, or anything else, you'll be charged an additional $1 per roll. We called in for takeout at 7:45, 8:30 my wife went to pick it up and it wasn't ready, another 45 min go by and she asks for a refund and her food to compensate for the poor service. The gentlemen host had a horrible attitude, infront of customers was swearing at servers. Dropping the F-bomb at them and eventually my wife. My wife got a refund then was told, "what are you waiting for? You aren't getting your fucking food" come to find out they weren't making our sushi the entire time she waited. Went there last week I had the shrimp tempura which was good. I ordered steak and scallops for the main course the scallops were Delicious but the steak was drowned in garlic. You could not taste the steak it was just awful the fried rice was the same loaded with garlic. If I ever go back there I will ask for no garlic. read more

Since the new owners took over the place has been a disaster. They can't get orders right, and the quality is terrible. This is the equivalent of gas station sushi. The tuna was old and slightly missed color. None of the other fish in the sashimi appetizer was perfect. My husband and I had been wanting to try Bambu for a while now. We went for hibachi dinner. The hibachi area is TINY. You have to squeeze behind other diners to get to your table. When you go out for hibachi, you put up with the fact that you'll be at a table awkwardly with strangers. But I felt like I was at the table with the other 50 people in the hibachi room. EVERY table had very young children. And every table had a chef that was making large flames of fire, making every child scream and cry. If the room was bigger, a crying child wouldn't be so bad. But ten crying children in a room the size of a living room was almost unbearable. I couldn't hear what my husband was saying and he was seated right next to me. The food was decent. Wasn't the best and wasn't the worst hibachi I've ever had. We both ordered the chicken. Portions were normal. The waiters were attentive and came by often to refill our waters and remove empty bowls. As soon as the chef was done, they came and asked if we wanted anything else or the check. They obviously want to turn the tables quickly. In review, decent food for the area, but be prepared for a small and VERY family friendly hibachi experience. Been eating here since before it was Bambu. It was Kabuki prior to Bambu. Starting eating here 40 years ago before sushi/sashimi was all the faze/fad. AND before all the new fangled rolls...rolls used to be simply based. However, I do like the newly "inventive" rolls. ANYHOW, never ever had a complaint...!!! Unfortunately, Will (main sushi chef) was on vacay. Yesterday I ordered fried oysters. NOT uncommon for me to order; had them many times before at Bambu. It appears that this order consisted of pieces of oysters, battered, fried, battered again & fried again. There was barely any oyster & just fried batter. I ate them when I got to my car. I should have RETURNED them...!!! Horrible. I ordered a sashimi roll; all fish, no rice. I always order this. There is mango in this roll. The mango was totally unripe; very pale yellow, literally HARD so much so that I wondered what it was. Too much spicy tuna (??) was added in the roll. Not enough fish. SMH. I asked for another roll to be made with eel, shiso & no rice. Told the guy add whatever he thought would go with the eel & shiso. They had no shiso, so they said. They were scanty with the eel; don't even recall what else he rolled into this roll...tuna, fresh salmon...think more spicy tuna...??? WTH This is why I do NOT like orders to-go...!!!!!! I went here the other night on a suggestion from two different coworkers because they said the sushi was absolutely fantastic. I definitely was not disappointed!! First of all their service is top notch... Very nice and attentive. Second of all the presentation of their sushi was off the charts. Third of all the taste and quality of their food was so good I went back twice in one week while I was here for a business trip. Awful experience with rude impatient staff. My family and I came for a hibachi dinner one night for a birthday celebration. Upon arrival the staff were incredibly rude and said there was a "$5 fee for sharing a hibachi meal"... which is ridiculous. Either way we powered through. The food was way too greasy although the flavor was good. The hibachi chef was nice and did all the tricks with fanfare and enthusiasm. I am so happy to find a good sushi place just minutes from home. Bambu has a nice vibe. We opted for the sushi tonight but the hibachi area is worth a try on another visit. The separate bar area was also expansive and a very nice spot for their weeknight happy hour which we will definitely be trying soon. Wow! I'm so excited I found Bambu! I moved to Ridgefield not long ago and was missing my go-to sushi delivery place from my previous town. I used a third-party delivery service to order from Bambu, and it was worth every penny. I'm just partway through my sashimi deluxe dinner, but I decided to leave a review now because it is amazing! So fresh, beautifully prepared and presented, and a much nicer variety of fish than you tend to get at a run-of-the-mill sushi place. I look forward to visiting Bambu in the future! In the meantime, I can justify the price if I want some delivery. read more
