What does EDO stand for anyway? Excelent, delicious, and outstanding? Well it should be, because those are three words that describe EDO to a T! I heard great things about the place so I decided to make an order. I went to the website which allows you to place an order online. Gotta love the hi-tech world! Not sure if it was the browser I was using, but I kept getting an error message after I added something to my order. I decided to just call the order in. There are about ten spots in front of EDO on Merrick Rd. I know this is primarily a take-out restaurant, but I was surprised how miniature the inside was. There are only like four tables (one of which was being occupied by the owner's kids.) My order was ready in about 15 minutes and not only do they accept the usual credit cards, they except the Discover card! There were two men making the rolls at a sushi counter. I love watching them create edible masterpieces! I went for the full package. Soup, salad, app AND two sushi rolls. For around $16 bucks, I got all the above. When I got home, I unpacked the bag and was impressed that the salad dressing was in a cup rather than just mixed into the salad. I started with the miso soup, which was a pretty large cup. The salad came next and the ginger dressing tasted great! Different, but great. It had more of a tomatoe-y essence. Next was the appetizer which was called Kani Su. It was large chunks of crabstick, in a vinegar sesame dressing sprinkled with what I assume was roe. It was so freaking good! I ordered the Salmon Skin and Eel Avocado rolls. I was getting full but I needed to taste them. The hit was the salmon skin roll. It had a smokey, BBQ flavor that I had not tasted in any other salmon skin roll I have ordered. It was my favorite. The whole meal tasted so fresh as if it was prepared at your kitchen table! I give this place two thumbs up. I like the option that rather than white rice sushi rolls, you can request brown rice. That is a perk I haven't seen at any other sushi place. I wanna order again! Is two times in one week too much? read more

I agree with Meri....this place is excellent. After that bitch Sandy ripped my town to shreds, I spent my days clearing debris from my neighbors, friends, and community members homes. So the days were long and all all shops in lb were shut down. Jonesing for some sushi I checked my handy dandy yelp app and found sushi in the area my friends reviewed.... Friend,y service (I just did take out, but they were nice) and I was impressed with just how many rolls they had and how inexpensive they were. I figured for sure I'd be getting something like the junk rolls from Waldbaum's. I was wrong...yay! Fresh sushi, tight rolls, deliciously prepared eel....yummy. My testimony: Once I was a sushi virgin; intimidated of that small cute goodness. Now I have been blessed by sushi. Anyways , the quality of the sushi and rolls are pretty good. The price of the sushi is amazing, I don't feel like I'm giving a arm and a leg. As for the place itself... Chinese Food Take Out. So don't expect Midtown, or Tao in the city. read more

This place is another surprisingly great find in Lynbrook for japanese food! First off the staff was really understanding and accommodating when I decided I wanted to change my pick up order to a sit down because I was in a situation where I had to be in a rush. Though I had some trouble finding the location once I was there I loved the small and cozy feel the place had. Though it wasn't a big space it was a great spot to hit up. I loved the hand rolls I got. First off the size was super generous it was quite filling and delicious!! I got the Philly hand roll and the eel avocado. Both were full of flavor and quite filling. I also got the seafood soup and it has a tasty seafood broth and there was a good amount of veggies inside which is nice! All in all I really enjoyed this place and hope to be a regular here. read more

No Just No ...the fact that there are so many good reviews and this is what people consider good quality sushi is mind blowing I ordered crunchy spicy tuna rolls that were so unnatural looking and had no sign of a crunch it was laughable. Fresh, well-priced, avoids the trappings of these faux-trendy sushi-hibachi palaces that keep popping up all over the place offering nothing new and the chance to pay more for it. Would I have passed by this place a thousand times without thinking of stopping unless I had the recommendation first--absolutely. Am I glad that I took the plunge and that it has since become our go-to sushi spot for quality rolls without the pretension--indeed. If you want a "sushi experience" you might be better off going elsewhere; if you want fresh fish and a good meal (personally, I'd avoid the apps and just get an extra roll or two to share), than this is the place to go. read more

I dont know if I got here on a bad day. I visited this place after soo many great reviews on yelp. The prices were good, but the food was disgusting. I went on a tuesday afteroon. The sushi rolls I received were hard, the rice was all dried out, and they sushi was definatley not fresh. I also ordered the soft shell crab, and this had a rotten fishy smell. It was soo unbearable that I ended up throwing it out. Do not order the soft shell crab. The only the I can say was that service was fast, and the prices were good. But it was probably one of the worst tasting sushi I ever had. I ordered the california roll, tuna roll, and something with alot of mayo on it. read more

This little restaurant is great. I had the chicken teriyaki which came with miso soup and rice. My daughter had suishi which she enjoyed. The suishi rolls are bigger than most places. The prices are reasonable and the service was very good. I would definitely go back. The miso soup was probably the best I ever had. read more

I used to think Edo was great b/c of the prices, but the last two times I have ordered, I've been greatly disappointed. The beef was especially fatty (gross) and had a horrible taste, like it went right from the package to the gril and then they tried to drown the horrible taste with a spalsh of teriyaki sauce (nasty). Considering one of the rolls I ordered was solely crabmeat, I wish it would have noted somewhere that it was imitiation crabmeat (yuk). The seaweed salad was fishy??? I ordered and paid online only to be asked for payment in cash when they delivered?? Kenji sushi, right in town, may be a couple more dollars, but so worth it. Edo is subpar, never again. read more

I was in town staying with my girlfriend and her family and needed a quick sushi fix. Found the spot on yelp, gave it a try, and was pleased with the restaurant. Inside is clean and small, perfect if there's a table there open and not crowded. Otherwise it's definitely a takeout place. The sushi was good -not over the top good, but for the price, on point. Had tuna sashimi and it was a little frozen. Definitely not a major knock, but meh. Roll and tempura were both delicious. Overall two thumbs up. Check it out. Missing Something. For what you pay, it's a decent place. Very small dine in area and was made for take out. The rolls are standard and not much different from what you can get at other sushi take out places. The hot tea they provide was not premade. It had a tea bag in it...I could have made this tea. I had the teriyaki combination which wasn't mind blowing. I normally go to Kaiseki in Valley Stream and found myself missing that sushi spot as I was at EDO. There's something missing at EDO, I believe they need to try to make their own signature dishes. Bottom line: Generic. read more

Don't know if they have changed their chef or not but the sushi doesn't taste like it used to! The rolls are too big with way too much rice and the quality of the rice and fish changed from a few years ago... Really disappointing because they used to have such good sushi! read more

This would be a two star review if not for the price and the proximity to my house. I've gone here about 4-5 times and they have such good prices but the rolls could use some work. They taste good but I question the quality of it. They're always so shoddily prepared because 8/10 of the sushi rolls I pick up with my chopsticks fall apart and I then have to eat the rest with my hand like some sort of common beast. They're also pretty slow. I sometimes order take out and then show up about 20 minutes later and then have to stand around awkwardly in the tiny little shop for another 10 minutes until my order is ready. I only order 2-3 rolls to split between me and my girlfriend so I don't understand how it could take that long. My favorite rolls would include the Volcano, Fire House, Spicy Dragon, and the Out of Control. I would only recommend this place if you're very close to Lynbrook/Valley Stream and you're in the mood for cheap sushi take out. So... Meh. read more

Way too much rice on these rolls. And i wouldn't say that it's even the best rice....but I guess that's why it's so inexpensive. Hubby seemed to enjoy his teriyaki though. read more

I never knew this place was even there - I asked Siri for some sushi places nearby and wanted an alternative to Moca here in Hewlett (very very good but also pricey). We needed to order about 25-30 rolls for family who were coming over and they were amazing at helping us with substitutions. I ordered about $100 worth of sushi and received everything together in a beautiful round container and more than enough ginger, wasabi and soy sauce. Fresh, light, perfectly formed sushi. I had visitors over my house and placed an order for delivery. Order took 45 minutes to come which was fine. However, after receiving and paying for the food we noticed they gave us more of other rolls and less of some of them. I called and asked for my exact order to be delivered and the person on the phone refused to make it right for me. He told me I got what I ordered. I have ordered many times from here and never had an issue but will not do it again. All special rolls are 7 bucks, and for a little hole in a wall there's a lot more creativity than most of the higher end places on Long Island. For 42 bucks, two hungry guys feasted on 6 rolls. If I remember correctly we had Ivan, Pink Lady, Rainbow, Spider and two others. It's not Nobu, or a fancy asian fusion restaurant, but if you're looking for a good lunch or aren't looking to break the bank on a great sushi dinner, Edo is your place. I just checked this place out based on all the raving reviews. My wife and I just moved to the area from Queens, we've bounced around from a few local sushi joints so far disappointed with what we've found. Unfortunately EDO Sushi was a disappointment as well. We ordered a few special rolls along with some sashimi. The fish was very cold and did not taste fresh. A few of the special rolls we wound up just throwing out because we couldn't take the taste.
