I came here with colleagues for dinner. It was great that we got a private tatami room. One of the colleagues knows the business owner here. They provided great services and servers always smiled and chatted with us. The food was great. The restaurant focuses on quality. We ordered many dishes and shared them like tapas. When we paid at the end of the meal, it was not expensive per person. We also had icecream at the end of the meal, so it was even better. I would like to come here again and try some other dishes in the future. I was lucky to find parking in the parking lot. I remember I had a hard time looking for parking last time. A small reminder for people to come here to eat - you need to provide your plate number to the restaurant at the reception, so your car can park at the parking lot for three hours max. read more

Drive pass this place several time so decided to give it a shot. First the location is hard to find the entrance to the plaza (I think personally). When I got seated I was rushed to order. I flipped one page of the menu and the waitress came and ask me what I am ordering. I told her to wait a bit first. Flipped 2 more pages then another waitress came to take my order and kept on hardselling what they have on special. Which I think it's a bit too aggressive. The food they suggested are big portions but I am alone. I rather order some smaller dishes so I could try several items on menu. I decided to order the grilled dry puffer fish. Negitoro sushi and green tea soba with tempura. Overall the food were great. Just that the broth of the green tea soba was very light. Would come back only if the waitresses are not that aggressive. I was planning to go to one of my regular Sushi place in Richmond, but somehow I ended up here. I haven't been back to this place for more then 5 years now. This restaurant is located in the plaza of Garden City and Alderbridge, right across the new Walmart plaza. The plaza has its own parking and you and you know you are in Richmond when the parking lot are parked with all high end cars. We were greeted at the door by the waitress and led us to a little table, requested for a bigger table cause enough of this tiny dwarf table, not here for a bowl of ramen. The place has one of the traditional Japanese theme to it, but it's quite a comfortable causal ambience. You know this place has been around for quite a long time cause the owners and waitress were all uncles and aunties. And it seems like a lot of regulars dine here. One of the manager came and told us the daily special and took our order for the following; 1. Assorted sashimi. Everything was fresh but quite disappointed with this one for $49 because I can get the same assorted sashimi for $19 two minutes down the street. Too basic for $49, overpriced, and need a bit of better presentation, failed! 2. O-toro sashimi, chu toro sashimi, red tuna toro sashimi, uni sashimi (all half orders). Very fresh and fatty! The o-toro and chu toro literally so fresh and fatty it melted in my mouth! Best ones I had in months! 3. Wagyu beef and foie gras nigiris. The foie gras were nicely seared and buttery. Unfortunately, the wagyu were under seared, needed to sear them more to bring out the marbled buttery taste. 4. Anago nigiris. Great if you like dried up jerky. Probably one of the worse anago I had, failed! 5. Aburi jalapeño salmon and avocado roll. I can't really tell you how it actually tastes like cause the chef forgot the avocado?? 6. Jumbo garlic prawns. It was okay, pretty basic 7. Fresh oyster motoyaki. Unfortunately it was one step below freshness cause the taste spoke out the truth. 8. Mentaiko white fish motoya. It was pretty good actually, if it had a lighter crisp it would be good. 9. Nabeyaki udon. Too much noodle with too little seafood and veggies, and the two tempura prawns weren't so good, glad I didn't order the assorted tempura. Overall, the place was okay with a decent casual ambience and I think it's a pretty good place for special selection of fishes. The service was okay but the waitresses were quite pushy in trying to sell almost the entire menu to me, that was a bit uncomfortable especially when most places I dined at, the waitresses tried to stop me from over ordering. As for the food, some definitely weren't so stellar; however, I did really enjoyed the O-toro and chu toro here, super fresh and buttery, better then the last 5 Japanese restaurants I tried. It's another Richmond Japanese restaurant run by Chinese. I would say they served above average good but the atmosphere I didn't enjoy at all. Nouveau riche so loud and we missed a lot our conversation in between even though we sat in front of each other. Crab, avocado and tobiko - It's great to start as salad King crab - the crab meat so sweet and fresh. Ika, tamago n ikura nigiri - it's good but the formation of sushi rice just bit hard Chopped scallops cone - too much salad dressing and made the seaweed cone soft. Amaebi, uni, hotate and Hamachi sashimi were good but not great. I don't mind to pay more for quality raw food but I just can't stand the noise. read more

I came here for dinner recently. The restaurant's atmosphere and service were good. In terms of food, I tried the Soft Shell Crab, Otoro Sashimi, Madai (Half a fish: Multiple courses/items) , Deluxe Aburi Sushi Set, and Green Tea Ice Cream. For the Soft Shell Crab, there were two nice and crispy crabs and it's definitely worth trying. The Otoro were pretty good cuts and fresh for Canada. The Madai came in several dishes: Sashimi, Thin pieces sashimi, Tataki, Aburi, Robata, and Soup. Overall, it felt similar to (but better than) the typical snapper. The sashimi was good as it was crunchy and had a fresh/clean taste. The thinner pieces were good as well as it felt lighter and more comfortable to eat. The tataki was pretty good. The madai aburi was the favourite as it had a good balance of ingredients and flavour. The option of having the collar/head as robata was good as it was nicely grilled and it added another layer to the meal. Also, the fish bone soup was also quite comforting. The Deluxe Aburi Sushi Set was good as well. There was Foie Gras, Ebi, Scallop, (King) Salmon, and 1-2 other fish for the set. Had a craving for some sushi, and in Vancouver/Richmond there is no shortage of places to try out. I stumbled across Tsukiji, and thought I'd give it a try. Didn't feel like staying at the hotel and eating hotel food... so off to give this little place a try. Walked in and there were only a couple of tables of other folks. Very quiet. Because I was dining solo, I decided to pony up to the sushi bar. The Sushi chefs were preparing what looked to be a rather large plate of sushi. It's always fun watching the sushi chefs prepare food. As soon as I sat down I was offered up a hot tea, which was great ! I decided to go with an Avocado Tomago roll, and a spider roll. I got to watch the chefs preparing my sushi. The spider roll was rather large (think futomaki). Definitely not a one bit roll. The Avocado Tomago roll had some seaweed in it that I wasn't expecting. The Avo Tomago roll was good, but it wasn't as tasty as the spider roll. Overall, Service was very good, the sushi was good, although a bit unexpected, but that's ok. I like Tsukiji, but there are also 100s of other places to try. If I lived in the area, it would be one of my go to sushi places. read more

The last time I visited Tsukiji was over 7 years ago. I could still remember how much I enjoyed my meal as a high schooler, but haven't had the opportunity to revisit since due to its relatively high price points. Now that I'm older and finally working, I figured that it won't hurt to come back to relive my memories of this place to see if it's still as good as I remember it to be!Albeit some of the reviews I've read, I personally had really good customer service. Their menu is extensive and I would say there's probably over 150 items to select from. I had such a hard time deciding on what to get. One of the things I found really unique is that they serve hand-made fish noodles. There's a couple different dishes that feature their in-house made noodles. I tried two at my visit here this time: The plain one with broth and the fried one. The fried fish noodles arrived first. They were rich in butter flavour and really worked up my appetite for my meal. Out of all the dishes I've tried, my top favourite would have to be the enoki wrapped in salmon skin. As the name suggests, the dish is made of enoki with salmon skin wrapped on the outside, then torched on the outside to bring out the smokey salmon flavour. We came here looking to sample some of their sashimi, but felt that their pricing was a little bit high. ($36 for 7 pieces of Aburi was a bit steep even when you are comparing it with Miku downtown). Instead, we tried 2 of their rice bowls. This review is based purely on the two bowls. If you are coming here for the Sushi, feel free to disregard this review. We ordered the Unagi don and Katsu don. The Unagi don was fine... nothing spectacular until we found a large pice of Unagi bone while eating it. For the Katsu don, the rice was a bit mushy, but what was the deal breaker was how tough the pork was. Some pieces were inedible as it was like leather. While the flavors you expect are there, the quality was just lacking and for the rice bowls we had, it is hard to rate this higher than a 2/5. read more

I am surprised that this restaurant is ran by Chinese and its pretty good but not yet like WOW. I mean there is nothing wrong by who runs it. I do like the food here. They have some private seats where its enclosed and its kind of awkward to call someone over you just clap your hands. I found it kind of disturbing because its a bit rude to the servers. I mean this could just be me personally. So this place has free wifi. The wifi password and login is posted all around the restaurant. I ordered a tuna sashimi bowl. It was very fresh except I found that they put too much ginger in it. I mean there are ginger bits in the rice. Just too much. Over all the food is fresh. I also got the yam tempura and teriyaki veggie. The yam tempura tasted very different from the other yam tempura I had at other places. They cut the yam tempura so thin that its a bit crunchy. Nothing wrong with that. Just interesting and different. The restaurant looks clean. There are parking at the front but its a hit and miss. Been here many times and the food is awesome. Special fish flown in from Japan everyday is different and fresh. The very special fish sashimi can cost up to $150 per order! This place can get pricey if you like the exotic stuff. They also have horse sashimi which I tried one time. Lots of sake to choose from and friendly service. The owner is really nice and always takes time to talk to you. Recommend coming with a big group to sample all the variety of food they offer. My favourite Japanese restaurant in Richmond. I've been here countless of times and everytime there's something new I try. Most of their fish is flown on the plane from Japan. I have the best uni from here. The Nama Uni was fresh from Hokkaido. I can't eat the cheap uni anymore! I always leave here soooooooo satisfied! The sashimi is so fresh and sweet it rivals what you eat in Japan. Given the high quality, the sashimi gets really pricey. read more

Decided to give this place a try seeing all the positive reviews! Though we were craving to eat some sushi or sashimi, when we saw the menu we decided to or order many other things except for sushi and sashimi! This place is not cheap. They offer the more high-end kind of sushi/sashimi menu. We decided to try variety of items which we normally would not order when we go out for Japanese! We ordered 1 piece of sea urchin sushi $6.50 each - not the freshest and cannot taste the wasabi that was supposed to be in the sushi.. We ordered two pieces of fois gras sushi ($6/piece). The fois gras just melted in my mouth...much better than the urchin sushi but I had better seared fois gras elsewhere. We also order a scallop roll which was $6.95 and a spider roll which was $9.95 for four pieces. Scallop roll was not worth the price considering that most places sell it at $4.95 to $5.50 at most! The spider roll was also overpriced by a couple of dollars for a only four pieces. We also ordered chawanmushi, grilled mackerel, assorted tempura and red snapper motoyaki! Yes it was quite the dinner! The chawanmushi tasted excellent only costed $5.95! It had one piece each of the following; chicken, prawn, lobster and of course mushroom! The flavouring was perfect! The grill mackerel was also excellent although a bit oily but perfectly grilled. The assorted tampura was also very good, consist of 3 pieces of prawn and a variety of veggies! It was perfectly crispy! The red snapper motoyaki was very good, perfectly seared but it came out last and by then I was too full to really enjoy the taste. Overall I think this place is over priced for sushi and rolls but the other items are pretty good! A huge disappointment and honestly, it wasn't the food. The server didn't tell us that there was a 2 hour limit until 30 minutes after my table sat down. She never even apologized for not telling us. She just said, "well, you should assume that we would need it by 7:30, because of reservations." Okay, fine. Later on, I had my plate taken away without being asked. One of the servers stood right beside the table, literally inches away from me, and just waited to grab my plate. My friend ordered a grilled octopus, she waited for quite a while and we finally decided to ask the server about it. She made a confused face and then asked what my friend ordered, went to check, and came back saying "you mean the saba? It already came." Friend:No, the grilled squid. Server: Really? Didn't you just order saba? Friend: No, the grilled squid. Server: They usually take longer -Server goes to the machine without any apology- Honestly, I'm a pretty good tipper as long as the service is good. I would gladly give above 15%. BUT... The server demanded tips! If you frickin' wanted 10%, then just add it to the bill. If you don't add it, then it would all depend on your service. She pointed out to my friend's money and said that she didn't have enough (she gave tips, just not 10% because we thought the service wasn't good). So I said, "sorry... but we didn't find the service good... and tips are for service". She outright demanded tips, and even said minimum is 10%. I mentioned some of the things wrong with the service and he replied with "but wasn't the food good?". Then, she proceeded to give the face, annoyed-angry-degrading face. Yes, the food was good, but understand that the TIPS ARE FOR THE SERVICE!!!! I gave some stars for the food. Here's some tips for you: 1. A huge tip would be to come slightly earlier than the peak hours because parking is so difficult as there's so many other restaurants in this complex. My fav here is the black cod! This restaurant has a very bad customer service. We ordered an avocado and tuna roll and they came with just an avocado roll when we took a bite. When we called to ask why we didn't get the tuna, the waitress was saying how avocado roll is cheap and we should just eat it. We insisted to get the avocado and tuna and they added the tuna on top of our avocado roll insteqd of making a new one for us. Also they only gave 5 pieces (originally 6 pieces) only. Great service, properly socially distanced, the food was clean, tasty, and amazing. Wish the sashimi came a little quicker (we ordered a unique kind which I think people didn't really eat) so most of the hot food came first. Tsukiji Japanese Restaurant is a Japanese restaurant primarily focused on sashimi (raw food) robata (grill goods) and a higher end Japanese experience. If you are looking for rolls and sushi, this might not be the place for you. The servers here are great and are willing to listen to complaints and suggestions. Just note that this place is owned by a Chinese owner and servicing should NOT be judged from a western perspective. Always ask the server for the selection of fish of the day as those fishes are always better off than requesting for assorted sashimi. They also have MANY other dishes outside of the regular menu, so asking would allow for a much better experience. Price-wise, it depends on what you order. Pretty tasty Japanese restaurant with very fresh fish (which i would hope is a given) as it's named after the most famous, largest fish market in Japan. Prices are reasonable and the sashimi, to the specialty dishes (which change depending upon what's available), to their noodle/rice dishes are all very good. I was only ok with the rolls though, these weren't the best that i've had and are on the smaller end. In addition to standard seating, the restaurant as areas around the edges if you want to have some privacy. Some of these have the more traditional "tatami" seating - so if you want this experience (or don't want it), i would call ahead and specify. This was a last minute place. I came here after another restaurant up the street was overbooked. I sat at the bar. The place was pretty empty, even for a Tuesday night. I kept it simple and ordered the Uni Chef special (full platter) and an order of Toro. The fish was fresh, but I wouldn't say out of the ordinary. I would expect more given how pricey the food was. The Uni was $24 for 3 pieces. They were big and juicy pieces, but they were pre-processed and refrigerated. I don't know if it was worth the cost. I think this could be one of the better sushi restaurants in Richmond! I came here with my family and all of us left feeling satisfied. We ordered the Assorted Sashimi, Nabeyaki Udon, Grilled Salmon Head, and the Assorted Sushi. The quality of the sashimi was really good, fresh and juicy. The grilled salmon head was also tasty- perfectly crisped on the outside. It did not taste super fishy as well (which was good). The assorted sushi was, in my opinion, a little pricey. There were 8 pieces of nigiri sushi and one roll of tuna maki. The portions were not particulary generous and I wished they included a california roll or something. The Nabeyaki Udon was nothing special- the soup was a little too sweet (a little strange) and the udon noodles were a little overcooked. I don't think I would order this again. The service here was very good. Cups were never empty and food came promptly. The waitresses could also adequately answer specific questions about the menu and gave some good suggestions. Prices are pretty reasonable- I would definitely come back again but I will phone for reservations beforehand as it surprisingly filled up quite fast! Cold sake of similar size in the $30+ range while other restaurants with better quality charge $17. It's like 3.5 stars. It's actually a canto-japanese restaurant. Basically, everyone here is canto speaking. So the food is decent and on par with what you would typically expect from a japanese restaurant. The BBQ is pretty good. All the food tasted good and with portions fitting expectations. Nothing was gigantically oversized like Banzai or Samurai Sushi. But I didn't feel sick after eating here. I liked the flavors. We had a really good experience with this local Japanese offering. They gave us a private booth for our two kids. The staff was very attentive and friendly. The service was consistent throughout, held with a high standard by all the staff who served us. They made sure the kids have the proper bowls and utensils. The servers checked on us frequently and helped us clear the table regularly. The variety of food choices were of good quality. A daily sashimi special offered added choices of fresh fish. We ordered tempura udon, the batter was fresh and light, the shrimps and vegetables were fresh. We would highly recommend their grilled hamachi fish jaw-it was grilled to perfection. The sashimi platter was excellent with high quality fish and seafood varieties from salmon, tuna, scallop, Arctic clams, shrimp to hamachi and mackerel. The sashimi were fresh with a sweet taste, the meat texture were soft and tender. Their California rolls were made with real crab meat instead of the imitation crab meat. The seafood sashimi is very fresh, albeit a bit pricey, but we think it's definitely worth the value. Other cooked dishes were less expensive but equally delicious.
