Went to Volkswagen to have a routine oil change and maintenance. As per usual, came out with a quote for over $3000 for a sensor repair and minor leak. After much research and perusing the amazing reviews of Ed's Autohaus, I decided to give them a call and get an estimate. Let me tell you that the 50% difference in price was only half of the reason why I am leaving this review. They not only worked on my car and fixed the issue, but when I came back to pick it up, they had washed my car inside and out! I have spent thousands of dollars at Volkswagen and not once have they ever even rinsed my car off! I will no longer go anywhere else for my Volkswagen repair. I had an outstanding experience with Ed's Autohaus in San Francisco and will absolutely be using him for all my car needs moving forward. I recently purchased a 2005 Mercedes SLK 350 and brought it in for a post-purchase inspection. I didn't realize pre-purchase inspections were even a thing until afterward--but better late than never! Before finding Ed, I reached out to several other mechanics who specialize in European cars, but most of them wanted an arm and a leg just to take a look. Then I found Ed. He was incredibly friendly, professional, and responsive via email--such a refreshing experience. Ed ran a full diagnostic, topped off my power steering, and even fixed a side marker light. The SRS light was on, and while it looks like that may need dealer attention due to a communication issue, Ed still did everything he could to help. When I came to pick up the car, I was genuinely surprised and grateful--he didn't even charge me for the time and care he put in. That level of honesty and generosity is rare. Update - I visited these guys again, this time with an actual tore leak due to a large nail. They worked me in immediately, plugged the hole, and I was in and out in 15 minutes for a very reasonable time. I really appreciate this value of my time that other establishments do not demonstrate. Previously I visited the shop when I found a screw in my tire. They showed me that the screw was not actually penetrating the tire, tested it just to make sure, and sent me on my way. It's a good business practice not to sell people things they don't need, and it's the reason I visited them again. read more

I picked this place because of all the great Yelp reviews! Came because my suspension was not working, as well I needed an oil change. My car was done just a few days later but I've found myself back at Ed's twice for each of these things since. Seems the first suspension part was faulty, ok. After driving less than 1,000 miles my oil change light came on. I get things and circumstances happen but one 'sorry' doesn't make me feel better about dropping over $1600 for these things, then having to come back for BOTH things. With the premium price you should ensure you are giving out good service. A genuine lack of empathy on Ed's part. My first and last time coming here! read more

Emerson is a heaven sent, kind hearted, generous, benevolent, caring, and empathising BMW professional which I cannot say enough about in this updated review. So my E93 didn't want to start a few days ago, but I decided against letting my AAA tow it because my front bumper is too low. I called Emerson and mentioned to him what was going on and he insisted I come by to borrow his, what I believe is very expensive, Snap On battery jumper. What shop loans tools like that?!?!!?! I arrived at the shop only to face my 2nd challenge and that's Ed's steep driveway, which isn't lowered car friendly, but that's MY fault not his! Ed and Emerson offered to work on my car OUTSIDE of the shop - IN THE RAIN! These guys are seriously a couple of heaven sent mechanical gods! Emerson calls to let me know how much the repairs would cost and gave me several options to be cost effective, which I really appreciated and even offered to pick up the parts himself from BMW. Enter 3rd challenge, and that was Ed's appointment, which meant Emerson could not leave the shop unattended as he kindly intended to orginally to pick up my parts. So, I stressfully began to plan my 3 separate Uber rides. First, to Ed's to pick up the dead battery. Second, to core exchange dead battery for new one and other needed part, and third, the trip back to Ed's shop. WELL, Emerson was two steps ahead of me on that one! Step one: He had the smallest battery in the shop ready for me take, since it doesn't really matter when it comes to core charges, and so I wouldn't have to lug around my original super heavy battery! Step two: HE OFFERS ME HIS PERSONAL TRUCK TO head to BMW, which saved me two slow annoying Uber rides, and not to mention the hassle of taking Uber with car parts. Well, what else can I say about this man? Nothing! I came back with the parts and Emerson knocked it out in no time! Did I mention this individual worked on my car in the rain?!?!!? I placed my car for sale on Autotrader and after several days I finally got someone interested in buying it. Around 20 minutes before the time set up for me to meet with the potential buyer I got an SMS from him asking me about the smog. I wasn't aware that by law whoever sells a car must provide the smog certificate. I did not want to cancel the get together as I hadn't found much interest for my car so I flew to Ed's and was able to have the smog check done in a couple of minutes. I found Ed's after having multiple negative experiences at Advanced Autoworks. The team here is honest, kind, professional and do affordable work promptly. I never felt like I was being upsold or charged unfairly for the work that was done. At the time, I had a VW with over 140k miles, I was specific with what I wanted done with the car in order to make it last but was unwilling to invest more than what the car needed for maintenance - they always took that into consideration and I truly believe they helped my car run for as long as it did. as if i didn't already hold ed and emerson in high regard, last week confirmed why i am a loyal patron (you should be too). i brought in my '03 e39 for a 150k service and to have the twisted car seat issue fixed. I get a call and was told that it's the motor that reclines the seat that needs replacement and receive an estimate. was also told that the trans fluid is sludgy and should be serviced. without actually saying it, the hint was do the trans work and hold off on the seat repair, which was exactly what i did, especially since it was shifting funny before bringing it in. picked up the car later the same day, and it was running fantastic. i get a call from ed the next day saying he was going through invoices as he normally does at the end of week, and noticed a miscalculation on the labor. he asked if i wanted it credited back to the card or have it applied the next time in. they have a customer for life, so my answer was easy. thank you ed and emerson! read more
