These kids know how to COOK!! Ed gave us great recommendations when ordering, even happier than expected. Bathrooms outside YES PLEASE. Can't stand those restaurants that have them indoors. Their food is fine, the only problem I have is how dirty the place is, especially in the kitchen. When I was there this year there were flies flying everywhere around the restaurant and the kitchen was a mess. And the service was fine especially with staff being friendly and the food is good too. Been going to Ed's for over 50 years. The first time I went to Ed's was with my grandparents back in the 70's and now I'm going with my grandkids. I stop by there every time I go down to Panama City Beach. They have the best burgers, and milk shakes I've ever had. This place is a real gem. Can't wait for my next visit! This used to be a go to place for our family. My in-laws live about 10-15 minutes away from town, so a couple of weeks ago, I placed an order for 2 Pub Burgers, one large fry, a large chocolate malt, and a large vanilla malt. I was told it would be 15-20 minutes. When I arrived 20 minutes after I ordered, I still waited another 45 minutes on my order. Then, was told that for the food and shakes I ordered rang up to over $63.00!!! AND, their computer system automatically asks for a tip starting at 17%. This was for TAKE OUT. You can do a custom tip though if you want (which I didn't see that option until I had my card in the machine, btw), Upon reviewing my receipt on the way home, I noticed that not only was I charged for the malt, but was charged extra for the chocolate and vanilla flavoring in the shakes...COME ON, charging me for the flavors that come out of their machine that way??? The teenager that helped me at the window never updated me to let me know the progress of my food, and she knew I had been there for as long as I was. The burgers were burned, the fries were cold, the malt was all at the bottom of the cups, (never stirred up, so they were nasty). For as long as I waited and for the amount I paid, it will be a while before I go back. I certainly do not mind paying more for quality food, but this was getting ridiculous. They are always packed. The handicap spaces out front are EXTREMELY narrow, there is no way that someone with a handicap equipped van could get in or out. Do Better and I'll come back. read more

I had a terrible experience at Ed's restaurant. I arrived with my son and my service dog, who is trained to assist with a medical condition. As soon as we reached the entrance, we were stopped by an employee who told us only military service dogs were allowed inside. I looked at her very confused to which she told me there was a sign on the door. I looked at the sign and it only says service dogs allowed no other pets. When I calmly explained that my dog is a trained service animal, the staff member insisted that I provide a "registration" or documentation or he needed to be wearing a military vest --something that is not legally required. In fact, asking for paperwork is not permitted under the ADA. Businesses are only allowed to ask two questions: (1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform? We were told we could not enter and that we could sit outside, which is not only humiliating, but illegal. When I said that this was against the rules of the ADA the employee said she was just following the rules of her owner and didn't want to argue This restaurant needs serious training on disability rights and federal law. It was an incredibly degrading experience and a reminder of how far we still have to go with accessibility and basic human decency. If you care about civil rights or supporting those with disabilities, avoid this place. read more

I love to talk ALMOST as much as I love to eat, so this review will be a cinch to write! But I'm warning you now that I've got a LOT to say about Ed's... It was the wee dawn hours ushering in a Monday morning as we ambled along Interstate 10. Heading back home after a crazy fun birthday bash weekend in New Orleans. The sounds of the pavement passing under were giving way to the groaning sounds of hunger taking over. As my Fav Fab One started looking online for a tasty oasis, I advised that I didn't want any 'Exit Food'. None of those cookie-cutter franchise food factories just off the I-10 for me. I wanted to find a quaint or quirky Mom & Pop type place. Nearing a town with a name like DeFuniak Springs almost guaranteed we'd find the perfect place. And that is when she found Ed's... We both instantly agreed that Ed's would be the place for us to hang up our hunger pangs. The first thing I noticed when pulling into the parking lot was that Ed's has been in business since 1964. That's 58 years, folks! Now there ain't nothin' fancy about Ed's. It's a simple shack with a sometime walk-up window, side by side outside bathrooms, slightly hazed over window filmed windows and plenty of time-honored scars. Right inside the door you see the sizzlin' flattop where all of the cooking creations come to life. With plenty of seating, we parked at a table up front near the window. Moseying over to get our breakfast wishes was a girl named Micah. Turns out she was as unique as her name. Friendly and with a bit of fun she welcomed us in true Southern style. When visiting new places, that first contact with a local makes all the difference. Micah made us feel right at home. Ed's was looking like a great foodie find, BUT little did we know what we were in for! Now remember, we're in Ed's for breakfast. It's roughly 8 am here, 9 where we live. Fab One and I keep flipping the two-sided menu over, and over. Lots of choices. Omelets. Pancakes. Eggs any way you like. And a mention about some mighty fine biscuits. With a hint of mischief in her eyes, Fab One shyly says she's curious about Ed's signature Pub Burger. I glanced around over my shoulder at the sign outside. Sure enough, in big letters it proclaims, 'Home of the PUB BURGER'. Suddenly, pancakes and hashbrowns were out and burgers were in. For both of us. Giggling like two kindergarteners we wondered if Ed's would be willing to whomp up a couple of Pub Burgers while the sun was still waking up outside??? It was at this moment that Micah approached, pen & order paper in hand. Feeling like I was cheating on the breakfast gods I mustered the courage to ask Micah if hamburgers, no, Pub Burgers, could be in our near future? To our great amusement, she responded "Absolutely!" Proudly, we both ordered Pub Burgers. Well done, all the way. I ordered mine with fries. Something told us that THIS was going to be memorable. I could see two girls flipping food, slicing and dicing over at the flattop. The clink of the spatula followed by sizzles and tiny billows of smoke. This was the heart of Ed's. It wasn't long before a wonderful beefy sweet aroma filled the air. Pub burger fueled whiffs teasing our tastebuds. Micah marched towards our table with two plates destined for our palettes. And a basket of fries. It was true home-cooked goodness. Golden buns with a shimmering glint of greasy yum oozing down. I bit into a fry first. That crunch told me this breakfast 'lunch' bunch was a munching great hunch! The burger before me was cut in half. Crispy curves of beef overhung the bun. American cheese filled those curves, cascading into cheesicle drips. Taking that first bite of burger, I was in a very happy place. And so was that woman across the table from me! Can you picture a pickle puckering smiling face? I was in the midst of pure greatness. Holding an 'all the way' burger that needed nothing else! Nothing. No added mayo. No ketchup. NOTHING. A juicy patty of perfection lovingly wrapped in all the way WOW! With a hint of that 'you know it' shiny good dripping down the hand. By far a burger worthy of being in any PUB. Anywhere. Perfect Ultimate Burger! After thoroughly enjoying every last morsel of that monstrously meaty treat, we headed out the door. After paying our very decent tab, of course. With the mischief that is me, I couldn't resist talking to the cook(s) responsible for this magical meal. I motioned at one of the cooks with a forefinger 'come here' wiggle. (The kind your mama would do when in trouble). She had a look of 'Uh-oh' on her face as she sheepishly stepped over to me. I proceeded to sternly announce that she hit that burger OUT OF THE PARK! Followed by a whole lot of very sincere praise. Her face went from OMG to glee immediately! Her name is Caroline. As she glowed, she said that made her day. She advised her able co-cook was Sam. The place has been in business for 60 years, and it looks like it. The cooking and shake prep areas looked very dirty. Equipment looked rusted and not cleaned in a very long time. I guess this is ok for a burger diner-type stop. Our party ordered burgers and their comments were that they were crispy and way overdone. The fries are skinny and deep fried, like straws. Nothing special about them. I gave it three starts because everyone said the milkshakes were fantastic, very thick and creamy. The cooks were very young and the wait staff had to keep correcting the orders. Hopefully they will get better as their experience increases. It was a one and done stop for us. In a small town the pub burger is probably the best burger you'll find. Always hot and good. I highly recommend eating in because the wrapping of thier burgers creates a soggy sandwich when ordered to go. I'd recommend them allowing their burgers to cool a few seconds before immediately putting them in thier wrapper. I believe that will prevent a wet bun due to condensation from heat. I enjoy seeing the staff and love that they halve great soft serve options. read more

Ed's is okay. Went there recently with a coworker and the food was bland and cold. Difficult to find parking during the lunch time hour. Not very clean inside. Servers are friendly. The fries are just ok...basic fries that left me wishing I would have gotten the onion rings like my wife. Service was slow, mostly because the place stayed packed the entire time we were there. I decided to try this place out. It was very busy so I imagined that the food was amazing. The burgers and the patty melt were absolutely delicious. The fries however, weren't good at all. McDonalds fries beat their fries in a heartbeat. The service wasn't the greatest. No one greeted us, it just seemed very chaotic inside the restaurant. A lot of moving people, employees and customers. I get that things get busy, but a small acknowledgment would've been nice. We had to flag someone down by the kitchen area to get our order in. I am new to the area, so I wasn't sure what to exactly order. I felt rushed by the employee taking my order and she didn't even smile once. I'm huge on customer service, as I was once in customer service. I guess that has kind of gone out the window these days. My dad recommended Ed's to me. He claimed Ed's had the best burger he has ever had. That might be too high of an expectation to reach, but it was not too far off. Ed's looks like a mom and pop's dinner. It was built in 1964 and it has that ole time charm to it. What Ed's is known for is the "Pub Burger." That could have been a few different things but it is basically the 10 oz. Angus beef and not the smaller cheeseburger they offer. Ed's has even a Southwestern style Pub Burger. That was the one that spoke to me and it was a mighty, fine choice. The burger came with chipotle mayo, pepper jack cheese, jalepenos, and bacon, I believe. This burger lived up to 10 oz. of Angus Beef. The beef was cooked just right and the seasoning was tasted throughout the burger. After one bite, my dad was on to something after all! I chose the Sour Cream and Chives Fries, which were basically potato wedges. It was the perfect side! Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet, just the way I like it! Ed's offers up several ice cream choices. I asked the waiter if thr chocolate milkshake was chocolate or vanilla based. He said chocolate and he was right! Our order was lost THREE times during the span of our one hour wait. Thankfully, the flies and bugs hanging from the ceiling kept us company while we waited. When we first ordered, we made modifications to one of our burgers and the staff was told again twice, but once we received the order it was wrong...go figure. The staff acted as if it was very normal to lose orders and for customers to wait an hour. We sent the burger back to be remade and after getting it back, I realized the cooks simply scraped off the toppings and gave it back to me! I shouldn't have been surprised at this point. Since Debbie, Dinkie, Tim and the older folks retired this place has gone down hill. They got the most disrespectful kids working here now that don't know the first thing about customer service and the food most of the time isn't fresh and not even edible. They also need to get with the year 2022 and have an online ordering app where you can pay online. Is it bad that we plan every trip through the Florida panhandle in order to eat at Ed's? Hubby has the pub burger almost every time but I always get the daily special. Today was fried chicken, two sides, cornbread or roll and dessert for $11! Creamed corn like my Aunt Ada used to make and excellent cornbread. I was on a spur of the moment (for me at least) road trip to the pan handle to help a friend, and needed some food stat!! I quickly whipped ou t the Yelp app and found this place. While the outside is not much to look at, and the inside actually isnt either..you really need to get past that and give it a shot. I saw corn nuggets and we decided to share some of those. I asked for ranch and was given a whole bottle of really good ranchy ranch that may be made in house. The nuggets were hot and salty sweet delish! Since E'd is known for its pub burger, thats what i went with and i was not disappointed! this burger is HUGE and fresh and amazing..served with some really good fries, i only could eat half..and due to the drive back didnt take the left overs :( Theres a walk up window you can make orders at, the bathrooms are outside, and parking is a little tight..but it really was awesome food, and the server was realllllly friendly ! read more

The burgers are large, but they are dry as the Mohave dessert. You need those GIANT sodas they give you to keep the burger in your mouth moist. The fries were cold, very small and rubbery. I ordered a pub and a double pub burger ($11.95) , I received 2 single burgers. I will actually go to McDonald's over this place next time I want a burger.
