What can I say. Small town vibes and definite local dinner. Coffee was hot and fresh I enjoyed the Two egg breakfast with link sausage. The link sausage is a great choice. Eggs were prepared correctly over medium. I choose to upgrade my meal with the Billy Hashbrowns. If your reading this wounding what are Billy Hash Browns the house hash browns topped with cheese grilled onions ham and chopped sausage. Definitely worth the upgrade price. We were running super early for the Girl's State orientation so we decided to grab a bite to eat. The Tropical Palm Restaurant is located in Crestview's revitalized historic downtown district which lends some ambiance. Unless you live in or near Crestview, you may not wander off the I-10 far enough to visit this establishment. The Tropical Palm is what you would expect when walking into a small town local eatery and not really reflective of their name unlike the Sharecropper in Blytheville, AR. The menu is very similar representing good ole southern home cooking with a few more worldly options. If you are wanting to experience fine dining or a tropical ambiance similar to what you would find in the Caribbean or Pacific island destinations then you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for a good belly filling grub with an old worn looking charm, then you will not be disappointed. Staff was friendly and the limited menu is perfect for their regular customers and visitors alike. Service was at a more leisurely sit down restaurant pace allowing easy conversation and the ability to have short conversations with other patrons. Absolutely loved the atmosphere for what it was with families and friends abound visiting one another. We ordered Mama Orene's Breakfast which was a hit with my daughter. She really enjoyed the fluffy pancakes with whipped butter and syrup. My wife had the Everything But the Kitchen Sink Omelette which she failed to finish walking away with two sandwich boxes of food. With large, as in several half patty's of sausages, encased with a multitude of other fixings it more than hit the spot. Lastly, I had the Western Omelette and it filled me up. The biscuits were warm, fluffy and soft as biscuits should be and the grits were, well, grits. I love them because they were as close to rice gruel as American cuisine gets. The sausage gravy was better than Cracker Barrel's but a far cry from the gravy made by my father-in-law's and eldest son. The restrooms were single person and like the restaurant, aged with a few new fixtures. It was generally clean. Overall, the value, atmosphere and food makes it a better option than chain restaurants serving a similar menu. I wouldn't consider it a must visit destination, but if you happen to be in Crestview, then, it's a very pleasant stop. read more

I was looking for a place to eat lunch and saw this place. So, I thought I 'd check it out. It was 11am already and their customers were eating breakfast. Kinda late for breakfast, I thought. I was hungry, but not breakfast. I looked at the menu and saw that they had open faced roast beef with mash potatoe. I ordered that with sweat tea. It looked good, but it didn't taste as good as it looked. The beef was soooo dry. The gravy was meh, and the only thing good was the mash potatoes. My dish was good, but I did not like the link sausage. We were not greeted very friendly from the start. The waitress never came to check up on us... not even asked if we needed a refill (which we needed)!! Let me start by saying the first time me and my wife ate here everything was fine, the young lady who took our order was polite, and the food was great. No complaints! Here's our problem when we stopped in for lunch today... Apologies if it seems long. We sat near the kitchen and the restaurant was pretty quiet. Our server today was a younger man probably mid 20's. Apparently there was a mistake when he took my order, as we heard some grumbling in the back. We heard him say: "It was the Chinese guys fault, I didn't understand him." The older waitress heard him too, and she immediately shushed him as we were sitting near the kitchen listening. I got up to leave, my wife payed for her drink. The older waitress who heard all this just replied: "Don't worry about paying for that drink." That was it, no apologies or anything of the sort. Some background on myself, I'm ethnically Korean and born in the states. Active duty Military with 18 years in, and I don't speak any other language besides English. We moved to Crestview a year ago, and haven't experienced anything like this, until today. We were in the mood for breakfast , it was 12:30 pm and was told they stopped serving breakfast . Ok no problem . I ordered the club sandwich . Was so upset when they brought my plate . Club sandwich is made with chicken NOT ham . They made theirs with ham . Not a fan of it . My husband ordered coffee to drink and not once did the waitress come and ask if he needed a refill or to check if any of us needed refills etc etc . So I was looking for a breakfast diner, without driving 45 mins to a Dennys. So this restaurant popped up, read the reviews, checked the menu, it looked good. So I placed a call in order. I have never felt so uncomfortable walking into an establishment in my life. I felt like I was transported into a 1940s diner and wasnt welcome here. So glad I ordered to go because there is no way I would have sat down to eat there. I get up to the counter, no greeting, no welcome, just a let me guess your the one that ordered to go. I will never come here again. My wife and I came here for breakfast today. There were very few people eating when we came inside. The waitress brought our drinks then took our food order. About 30 minutes later the waitress came back and told us she lost our order and we had to order again. Then more people came in after us and ordered and got their food while we were still waiting for ours. Finally after waiting for an hour they had our food. Giving two stars because the waitress that we had was very attentive and sweet BUT.. the atmosphere there was not very welcoming. Ordered eggs, grits (watery, no flavor), French toast (decent, not fresh fruits, filled with cream cheese) orange juice (not fresh) bacon was like bacon flavored air. Lol so crispy and THIN. Bland, tasteless, and extremely greasy fried shrimp and fries. I could not even finish half of it. Service is also poor. Waitress did not show back up after delivering meal. The staff congregates at a table near the customers. They do not wear masks. No sanitizer to be found. I saw a worker at the counter use a flyswatter, and then pick something up with his bare fingers and throw it in the trash. Great Southern food! We've been coming here for over a year, but the new owners have made some great improvements. The restaurant is quaint with an old-timey diner feel. The fried chicken and spaghetti dinners are some of our favorites, but their new pancake flavors that they serve on Saturdays are amazing as well. Walked in to find a sign that says, "Seat yourself," so myself and my family did so at the last available table at that moment. we sat there for 5 minutes without a single employee saying a word to us. Two couples walked in after us and were waiting for tables to be cleaned. The waitress cleaned the tables, sat the couples, and got their drinks and delivered menus to their tables, still without saying a word to our family. Ultimately 10 minutes went by with one waitress making eye contact with me several times and never acknowledging me with a hello or anything I decided it would be better to go to the Waffle place that everyone knows. At least they will take my order when I seat myself. I have to say, I'll never try to eat at Tropical Palm again, and will make sure to tell everyone how bad the service is. A lack of employees doesn't give a pass for rude. The food is great! The wait staff leaves a lot to be desired. If you are not a regular expect to be ignored or to have to ask for menus, silverware, etc. This is the 3rd time I have been here and by far the worst. We were ignored by every waitress and people who came in after us were waited on first. When we did get service there was no greeting, they took our drink order.
