As we drove into the small parking lot beside Edulis Grill and opened the car doors, we were immediately greeted with the delicious smell of charred vegetables and meat. At this point, we were having a pretty late lunch and we could tell we were in for a treat. We walked in and found it to be relatively empty, with a total of 7 booths but only one occupied. After we sat down, Ali, the do-it-all man of the restaurant, told us that the menu was going to change soon and they were going to remove the baba ganoush and tabbouli along with some other adjustments. Originally we wanted to try the Bagila Bil Hihin, but they didn't have the fava beans ready since it was well past breakfast time. Instead we went with the other recommended breakfast item along with another Iraqi unique dish. As we were waiting for our food, we got some soup to start off Lentil Soup (Complimentary) - This was a nice warming soup with soft stewed lentils, spiced with a lot of cumin and served with two large wedges of lemon for you to squeeze in as wanted. Mahklama ($16.99) - This dish consisted of scrambled eggs mixed with kabob meat, parsley, tomato and onion. The flavor mainly consisted of cumin and turmeric. The texture was pretty soft and tender throughout. We found that it was perhaps a bit undersalted but still tasted good overall. Iraqi Shish Kabob ($21.99) - This included four skewers of pretty simple ground beef mixed with salt and other seasonings, then grilled to perfection and sprinkled with sumac. The exterior had a very nice crust that added texture and the interior was some of the most tender kabob we have ever eaten. The meat here was honestly absolutely amazing - better than any grilled kafta I've had at most Lebanese restaurants around the area. The taste was fantastic, a perfect mix of char, mellow beef, onion, and spices. They don't add parsley or mint, so there were no herbal notes. The kabob was served with onion and tomato that were perfectly charred on the grill. The onion had cooked enough from the heat that it only had a small raw bite, and the tomato was pretty softened from the heat. There were also some mini sliced cucumber, pickles, and a big bowl of rice pilaf (choice of rice or fries) to complete the meal. Each person also gets a samoon and an entire piece of Iraqi pita/Arabic bread/khubz to eat their main with. I think they buy these in the morning from a local bakery because they are served cold. If there was one improvement, it would be to warm up the bread a bit. At the end of the meal, they serve you a complimentary cup of a very nice black chai, filled with the fragrance and flavor of various spices (cardamom and cinnamon perhaps?). It's served unsweetened, but there is a container of sugar on the table to adjust to preference. By the time we left, the restaurant had completely filled up and the employees were pretty overwhelmed at that point trying to clear tables, bring out food, cash people out, and take phone orders. Only Ali was working the front and there were only two people cooking in the kitchen. Just be aware that this is a family establishment, so things might take longer than usual when the restaurant start filling up. Side Note: Edulis Grill serves each customer a bottle of water at no charge. Most other mom and pop Middle Eastern restaurants in the area charge for water. Overall Edulis Grill has some really great Iraqi food. I highly recommend the shish kabob. Give them a try. You won't be disappointed!

Marvelous unique delicious Iraqi Breakfast Plates, Thanks Baba and Ali your the best . Visit the Google page all 5 star reviews https://maps.app.goo.gl/AN2NzAVYZFfuFN42A . Totally different from Lebanese and Yemeni breakfast in a great way, you really gotta try. Available all day everyday , all meals come with Free Hot Tea at end of meal, a traditional Iraqi treat. Our third visit always a full house of Iraqi families enjoying food from the homeland. Bagila bil Dihin truly deserves five stars Fried Eggs over Broad Beans over soaked pita bread and topped with hot oil. Bagila is the Iraqi word for beans, broad beans or lava beans to be exact. Couldn't eat it all, perfect for breakfast next day just added more eggs . No one does breakfast better than Iraq. Makhlama is a dish of soft cooked eggs atop a skillet of Iraqi Kebab with onions, parsley, tomatoes, the addition of lemon juice. Just trust me on this one outstanding Delicious . I stuffed inside half of Samoon traditional Iraqi bread like a Iraqi Breakfast Burrito . We started with great Lentils Soup and Iraqi Salad two favorites of ours. Only Father and Son team runs the restaurant, Baba in the kitchen and Ali front of house. The very best Middle Eastern food anywhere that will never get a mention in any media. They don't pay those high priced Fake Foodie's for reviews and photos, so prices are 30 percent lower than those paid to play restaurants in Dearborn. Five Star reviews around the web Yelp Google Instagram and Facebook just take a look. Wonderful service. The owner is so kind and the food was great. Possibly the best falafel I've had. Gave me some soup to try and didn't charge.

There's a parking garage in the rear and plenty of spots. I did enter through the rear of the establishment since I parked there. The menu is pretty extensive. Ended up getting the half order of hummus. A basket of warm pita and two sauces came out. I initially thought that was the pita. This was complimentary I believe. The garlic sauce is solid. The other one is a spicy sauce of some sort. This spicy one was super good. The hummus came out. Very smooth and flavorful. For my entree, I got the Shish Kafta. You can choose between lamb or chicken. I went with the chicken with a side of rice and my choice of soup or salad. I opted for the lentil soup. That came out piping hot. This was delicious. Flavorful and good texture. My entree came out and wow. The portion is way more than what you pay for. Came with 4 very huge blocks of chicken kefta. Nicely seasoned and grilled to perfection. Had a nice char on the outside, but still juicy on the inside. I used the two sauces from earlier to give it an extra kick. I washed it all down with a mint lemonade. This was absolutely refreshing. Clean place, very good food and the customer service was solid.

One guy seated at a booth on the phone and two ladies with their suitcase at another booth. Other than the 3 people, place was empty. Ordered carry out. crushed lentil bowl, chicken kafta, two sides: small hummus, small baba ghanouj, large fattoush salad with no pita. $38.13 Food takes about 15 minutes to be ready. Drove all the way back to the office. My chicken kafta looks to be lamb, not at all what I ordered. My large fattoush is covered in pita chips. Had to spend several minutes getting every pita chip out of the salad. It's good I am not allergic to gluten. They shove the dressing packet in the corner of the salad, so you get a bit less, that and the pita chips. Other than that, the salad was fine. I am quite disappointed the order is not right! The crushed lentil soup has a lot of rice in it, which is just filler to me. Has some clumps of something, may be rice and starch? It's too inconvenient to drive all the way back. Do be sure to check your carry out order before you leave the place. The crushed lentil is quite bland, not much flavor to it. Tastes some fennel, quite a few clumps of starch. The soup is more rice than lentil. I could count on one hand how many traces of lentil was in my bowl of soup. What in the world? My husband ate the lamb kafta, since I don't eat red meat. He said it was so-so, but rather dry.

They sell a variety of different Middle Eastern spices and bottled/canned sauces in a couple of aisles. To the left side as you walk in, they have a delectable looking display of baklava and other treats (I believe that Shatila Bakery is their supplier, so you know these will be delicious). Along the left wall is a line of freezers, some of which include large bags of frozen samoon and kubba along with other baked treats. To the other side, they have some prepared food in trays and a section of seafood including a little pond in the back with live fish. We were too full from lunch to try any of their prepared food, but we came here specifically to get their bread. As soon as we walked in around 1 PM on a weekend we could smell the fragrance of fresh bread being baked in the tanoor and oven to the right side of the store. Overall, we got 5 pieces of Samoon (Iraqi Bread) and 2 pieces of Khubz (Arabic Bread/Iraqi Pita). Total cost was $5.50. They don't post prices anywhere and as other reviews on Google also state, I feel like they just charge what they feel like charging. The person that rang us up wasn't very confident when he told us the cost and then ended up short changing us by 5 cents. The bread was hot and fresh, coming out directly from the tanoor and samoon oven in a continuous flow. The khubz was almost too hot to the touch while many of the samoon were still puffed up from the heat on the interior. There are some paper bags on the side for the samoon but strangely only plastic for the khubz. While they are warm, be sure not to bag the bread up in plastic or condensation will start to build and the bread will become soggy. The samoon has a nice fragrance and a very nice chew to it - the ingredients are very simple, but very delicious. The khubz, on the other hand, has some bran or some more earthy element mixed in and is baked in a tanoor, giving it a more complex charred taste. It has some uneven crispy parts and more chewy parts giving a fantastic textural contrast. Both types of bread are perfect to eat filled with meat and veggies, or used for dipping, or our favorite method of just eating it straight while it's still fresh and hot from the oven. I think this is where Edulis Grill across the street gets their bread from. I'll have to confirm the next time I eat there. Overall I recommend going to Al-Rada Bakery to pick up fresh bread. Just be aware that they don't seem to have consistent pricing. Edit: I added this entry as Al-Rada Bakery. It can also be translated to Al-Rida or Al-Reda according to google translate. I don't know anything about Arabic, so I'm not sure what is right.

The place was bustling and I managed to snag one of the last open tables. Fatteh with meat- For the uninitiated, this is akin to a parfait of pure deliciousness. It's a dish constructed in layers, with fried khubz (fried pita chips), meat, toasted nuts, pomagranate ariels, yoghurt, whole tender chickpeas, and hummus. This time, the pita chips were sogy and not crunchy even though we dug in immediately. Otherwise, this dish was flawless. The large size is huge and enough for four people to share. 6 Falafel- They come drizzled with tahini and a touch of spice. They are tender and moist inside, and the outside is fried so that somehow it's maximally crispy without lacerating the inside of your mouth. It's flavorful enough to eat by itself, or dipped in the sauce it comes with or any of the other dips you order. Hummus- This is smooth and topped with whole, tender chickpeas nested in the middle, and a sprinkle of dried herbs. There's not a lot of olive oil that comes with the dish, but there's olive oil provided at the table to help with adjusting the consistency if you desire. This was the perfect consistency and delicious overall. If this was the only hummus available to me for the rest of my life, I would be happy. The bread is commercial pita bread wrapped in a basket at the table, and they give you the usual assortment of vegetables (sliced tomato, onion, pickles, etc) on a plate as well to enjoy with your meal.

It's been a couple of months since then, but we finally decided to visit recently for breakfast. Unlike the Lebanese breakfasts places around Dearborn, this restaurant was pretty empty with only two other tables with patrons. Falafel, 1/2 Doz ($5.99) - The quality is evident in these falafels and you can tell they are made to order. They have a very delicate crisp on the exterior throughout and the interior is more mashed and fine as compared to a typical falafel. It seems like it's purely chickpea, without the addition of herbs. It comes drizzled with tahini and comes with a nice lemony yogurt sauce on the side. The mix of chickpeas and spices is phenomenal - these are some of the best falafels I've had. Spicy Potatoes ($6.99) - A good size portion of pan fried potatoes mixed with cilantro and a small amount of pepper flakes. I wouldn't really call these spicy - there's barely any pepper in it at all. The potatoes are fluffy and come with a yogurt dipping sauce on the side. Fatteh w/ Meat, Large ($16.99) - I'm no expert on the difference between Lebanese and Syrian food, but from what I can tell, this Syrian-style fatteh has pomegranate arils mixed in and is quite a bit less liquidy. This allows the pita chips on the bottom to still retain a nice crunch, unlike how soggy the chips are in the Lebanese fatteh I've had. The dish had a very nice mix of yogurt, giving and tangy taste, and hummus and chickpeas. Then it's topped with a mixture of lamb and beef (it has a bit of a gaminess to it) and toasted cashews. I think this is the best fatteh I've had so far. We actually also ordered a medium hummus as well but they forgot to bring it out. To be honest, though, when we saw the size of the fatteh, we were glad they forgot the hummus! It's huge - between the two of us, we only finished maybe 1/4 of it. On the side, they give you a plate of fresh mint, pickles, onion, and tomato to use as garnish. We also got 4 whole pitas to eat everything with. I would definitely come eat at Shamiat again - in fact, I'd probably rather go here than to AlTayeb, because of the fact that Shamiat is just a whole lot less crowded and is equally delicious. I highly recommend trying out Shamiat if you're in the area.
