We saw Shamiat Restaurant while driving on Greenfield one day and thought it looked very interesting after seeing the photos of the Syrian style donut-like falafels. It's been a couple of months since then, but we finally decided to visit recently for breakfast. Unlike the Lebanese breakfasts places around Dearborn, this restaurant was pretty empty with only two other tables with patrons. Falafel, 1/2 Doz ($5.99) - The quality is evident in these falafels and you can tell they are made to order. They have a very delicate crisp on the exterior throughout and the interior is more mashed and fine as compared to a typical falafel. It seems like it's purely chickpea, without the addition of herbs. It comes drizzled with tahini and comes with a nice lemony yogurt sauce on the side. The mix of chickpeas and spices is phenomenal - these are some of the best falafels I've had. Spicy Potatoes ($6.99) - A good size portion of pan fried potatoes mixed with cilantro and a small amount of pepper flakes. I wouldn't really call these spicy - there's barely any pepper in it at all. The potatoes are fluffy and come with a yogurt dipping sauce on the side. Fatteh w/ Meat, Large ($16.99) - I'm no expert on the difference between Lebanese and Syrian food, but from what I can tell, this Syrian-style fatteh has pomegranate arils mixed in and is quite a bit less liquidy. This allows the pita chips on the bottom to still retain a nice crunch, unlike how soggy the chips are in the Lebanese fatteh I've had. The dish had a very nice mix of yogurt, giving and tangy taste, and hummus and chickpeas. Then it's topped with a mixture of lamb and beef (it has a bit of a gaminess to it) and toasted cashews. I think this is the best fatteh I've had so far. We actually also ordered a medium hummus as well but they forgot to bring it out. To be honest, though, when we saw the size of the fatteh, we were glad they forgot the hummus! It's huge - between the two of us, we only finished maybe 1/4 of it. On the side, they give you a plate of fresh mint, pickles, onion, and tomato to use as garnish. We also got 4 whole pitas to eat everything with. I would definitely come eat at Shamiat again - in fact, I'd probably rather go here than to AlTayeb, because of the fact that Shamiat is just a whole lot less crowded and is equally delicious. I highly recommend trying out Shamiat if you're in the area.

The thing that almost made me give this place 5 stars is their food (which is the most crucial part about the place). The food was absolutely delicious! We ordered eggs with beef, Fatteh, Falafel, and all of it was delightful. The Turkish coffee was also a different experience. The spices mixed into the coffee were very pleasant and made it feel different from any other coffee. The place itself is small, the tables are positioned tight enough that it's hard for people to sit back to back on two tables next to each other. The thing that really made me deduct 1 star is how lost I felt. The menu does not have enough explanation about the meals for English-speakers. The woman who tended to us was very nice, but she was not fluent in English, so any question we asked about the menu was kind of half-answered or not at all. I'd suggest the place gets at least a better description of each meal in English.

Shamiat is a phenomenal Syrian restaurant that needs more attention from the community, I wish I could give them more than 5 stars! Their falafel is some of the best I have ever had, especially considering the competition in the area. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly greeted by one of the employees and a cook from the back (might have been the owner) brought us free samples of their delicious falafel to try while we ordered! This is a spot you CANNOT miss, I can't recommend it enough! Check out my Instagram for more @hangry_detroiter

If you're looking for authentic Syrian cuisine, @shamiatrestaurant is the place to be. The chef used to own a restaurant in Syria and be the chef there, so you know you're definitely getting authentic Syrian food. We tried many items from the menu, and my most favorite items were the falafel and the eggs with meat. These Syrian style falafel were made fresh to order. What sets them apart from the other style falafels is that these have a hole in them to ensure the falafel is properly cooked and has a crunchy texture on the outside and a softer texture on the inside. When you break into these falafel, they're more yellow in color and that's because they only use chickpeas, whereas other Middle Eastern falafels can be made with chickpeas and fava beans. Honestly the best falafel I've ever had. Definitely coming back for more. I highly recommend checking out this place if you're looking for an authentic and delicious breakfast/brunch. Their location, although it's small, is nicely decorated. They also plan on opening up a bigger location, so definitely follow @shamiatrestaurant to stay updated. They are 100% Halal. They are located inside of a plaza and there is a lot of parking. The restaurant seems small, but the other side has seating I believe. I ordered their chicken shawarma bowl and it was 16$ which I felt was super expensive. But I wanted a bowl so I ordered it. None of my food was hot. My rice was lukewarm, the chicken was cold and the cauliflower was not good and cold. I wanted the veggies (zucchini, onion, carrot mix), but the guy who made my food said there was no more, but it looked like they were cooking it. He didn't ask if I wanted to wait so I felt rushed. The only thing I liked about all this was the potatoes. They were so good. I asked for beets and I got pickled turnips. They did put 2 beets but they were super hard. The chicken did not have much seasoning to it. And I didn't get a lot of it. It was so finely chopped that I didn't notice it. I did not finish my meal at all. I want to give them another try because the guy (maybe owner) was so nice. Like so pleasant and sincere. But the worker who made my food was kind of standoffish. The girl at the counter was nice also. Maybe I will come before 8pm and try their food.

The food was outstanding. The lamb was incredibly tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The fresh bread, rice, and overall quality of the meal reminded me why Dearborn has become one of my favorite food destinations whenever I'm in Michigan. What made the experience even better was the service from Murad. From the moment I sat down, Murad was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. He got my food out quickly, checked on me throughout the meal without being intrusive, and before I left, he thoughtfully brought me a wonderful cup of tea to finish the evening. His warm smile, positive attitude, and professionalism made a great meal even more memorable. Restaurants can serve excellent food, but great hospitality is what keeps people coming back. Murad is a perfect example of that. If management is reading this, he's doing an outstanding job representing your restaurant. I'll be back every time my travels bring me to Dearborn.
