Granted, I had an appointment early Tuesday morning, so it wasn't a zoo or a "scene" which I really appreciate. Everyone was very professional, no attitude, I was served a cappucino w/ a smile, which made me smile, since I probably would've been happy w/ 7-11 coffee b/c I had not caffeinated yet. Not happy!. My daughter requested a gift certificate to Edwards Salon to get a special Keratin Hair Straightening. Our extended family joined together and gave her $400 gift card. She went and spent close to 6 hours there with Jason, used most of the gift card to pay for the treatment and went home and followed his instructions faithfully. After the prescribed waiting period she washed her hair...and...it was just as curly as before and took just as long to straighten with a flat iron. She returned to the Salon and Jason agreed that "it didn't work" They would not give her cash back and just gave her a gift card back. 6 months later, needing a hair cut, we figured go to Edwards and use the gift card. Called to make an appointment and Jason was not free, so she went to another stylist. Got the cut then was told she could only use the gift card for Jason and not another stylist.......This haircut was ok...but the only reason we went back to Edwards was to use this gift card....well....we will not be going back! I love this place and think Sara is fantastic. I drive 2 hours just to see her. I've never had a bad haircut and I always have people comment on how beautiful the color of my hair is. I love Ray. Not only he is talented but also he is a very knowledgeable gentleman (I mean about everything not just hair). I have always had great cuts. However, Ray is not the the greatest stylist though! His cuts are awesome, he knows what you want, however, when it comes to styling your hair, it looks totally different that what you have imagined. You seriously need to go home and re-do your hair yourself. If Ray could upgrade his method a bit, he'd be the best in the entire bay area. I have been to loads of swanky hair salons from LA to London...now living back in the SF area, I found Edwards; LOVE it. . Great service, friendly people, perfect what you want cuts. There are so many salons where the stylists are just trying too hard to be tragically hip, Edwards is not like that. I mean the stylists ARE hip of course, but not all up their own arse (can I say arse on this thing?) This salon is the best in Marin for the following reasons: 1) Instead of Marin-style "snob appeal" they've focused on quality work without the self-impressed attitude, 2) the haircutters have all been carefully vetted (campaign season, couldn't resist) so they contribute to a welcoming, fun and professional atmosphere, 3) they think of a dozen little things, like ice and lemon in your water, slow shampoos with delicious neck massages, and warm cookies in the afternoon, 4) the owner is constantly overseeing the work of all stylists but not with a heavy-handed attitude, 5) you come away looking great -- which would be the main reason for going there. It's refreshing to get great styling in a top-notch salon without so many of the affected trappings of other places. Great hairdo, relaxing and warm. Reasonable pricing on services and products. Staff that are as attractive inwardly as they are outwardly. Groovy and cool place but equally comfortable for family. Highly recommended and easily five stars. read more

I have come here a couple times as a recipient of a conditioning treatment and also to purchase products and seek advice. (Admittedly I have not had color, cut or extensions - they do Hairdreams - done here recently - many years ago, yes, but I don't recall the experience). What strikes me as most dear about this salon and so important for any salon is that this place has a heart. Edward the owner is extremely kind, fair and considerate. He didn't have to listen at length to me discuss my hair history and advise me. But, he did, and he offered sound advise and sympathized with my bad experiences at other salons. Not only that but he stands by his customers and will do what it takes to see them happy. He won't tell a client he can achieve something that isn't possible for that client's hair and will sacrifice their business in favor of honesty. I am impressed. I often visit salons in the city that may be more famous but I would choose a local salon with heart over a top salon with a ultra famous reputation any day. In desperate need of a good haircut, a friend recommended Edwards Salon. I wish other services (doctors, et al) were as easy and professional as Edwards. This place is more reputation than talent. Granted, they have great technique, just no creativity. If you know exactly what you want, they can probably do a good job with it. If you want something very new and need direction...go somewhere else. Both a friend and I had zero success in convincing our stylists to do a drastic change with our hair...for no good reason. I have been going to Edward's salon for about 6 months now, and I went to Leeann for a full color correction. She was extremely sweet, and knew exactly what was best for my hair. As soon as I walked into the salon, I was pampered by every person that worked at that salon. Fresh baked cookies, and my drink of choice was divine. Leeann was so professional, and very friendly. My hair is so thinkc that I can't blow dry it on my own and every week had to go to a quickie hair cut place and pay someone to wash & dry it. Edwards Salon convinced me to try their new straightening method, Keratin Complex, and it has changed my life. Next to my IPhone and post-it notes I believe it's the worlds greatest invention. It's not cheap but when I take into account the $ & time I spent having someone blow-dry my hair I'm sure I've saved millions of dollars and hours sitting in a non-appointment place. Washing/drying/flat ironing takes a few minutes and the condition of my hair is spectacular. Yesterday I was a model for Leeann who is near the end of her training at Edwards. At first I was afraid of letting anyone "learn" on me but I was looking for a new stylist and thought what the heck -- it's only hair, it does grow out and it was free! I am almost 65 and at no time in my life have I ever, ever had anyone spend so much time on my hair, looking at how it lays on my head -- literally -- to be sure it would lay appropriately when she was done. Never going there again! Mind you I only have had one appointment and one stylist, Leeann, who cut my hair. My hair was almost to the middle of my back. I was very very specific of what not to do. To make sure my hair would not end up so short it would end up at the bottom of the back of my neck. I had a photo, I asked for a shoulder length bob cut. I paid $100.00 for a ridiculous badly done cut and it's obvious she does not understand how to cut a bob. She kept saying, "we did take off quite a bit off." We? I am totally embarrassed at the appearance of the cut, I have scissor cuts that show, layer underneath is shorter then layer on top, it is without a doubt an obviously bad cut. Even Supercuts would have done a better job. Leeann is adorable personality wise, and a chatty one who justifies everything (wrong) she does. I am very very upset. The bottom is uneven, too short and wide at the bottom. I look like I have the idiot girl look. All I need is a big space in between my two front teeth! Thanks Leeann...go get some training and angle the scissors the right way to get that professional curvature at the bottom of a bob. You can not cut a one length bob. Spare your customers the upset and cost of $100.00. Good luck! read more

I feel compelled to write this given how many times I've dropped over $300 for a cut and partial highlight and how my dissatisfaction grows with every visit to Edwards. Take my advice - do not spend the money. Trek into the city, deal with parking and other hassles and get yourself a real cut and highlight. My "cut" this time consisted of a 9 minute trim that didn't even get all the split ends off. My highlight was a disaster - the stylist left me under a too-hot dryer for way too long and I came out way too blond with roots showing all over the place because she didn't bother to highlight all the way to the root! I had to go back for a fix but it still looks crappy AND I had to waste yet another hour in that place, pay for another babysitter and I'm STILL unhappy with how it looks! To top it all off, you would have thought she was doing me a favor by fixing my hair that she screwed up in the first place. read more

Ok. I've now been stopped twice in the last week by different women asking, "Who does your hair?" So I'm compelled to write a review for Julie Casady at Edward's. Julie is a very hip English woman with tons of training. She total gets it and always make me feel and look great. I've been with her for about 8 years and she has somehow managed to keep me looking hip too. Sometimes I'll ask her for bangs or a too blond color and she'll simply say, "Ooohhhh, really?", and she's always right. I totally trust her to keep me looking great. She is so professional and has great technique in both cuts and color. Over the years I've been asked the same question many times about who does my hair, often times by complete strangers on the street. I've happily referred them on to Julie and they all love her. In my opinion there is not a better stylist to be foun, here in Marin or in the City. read more

This is the kind of unique salon that you will be lucky to find. After having a friend put in some highlights that unfortunately turned out brassy, I was looking for someone to fix the orange, and everyone knows how tricky it is to correct mistakes with color. I booked an appointment online with Edward to do color/highlights later that afternoon, and within minutes Edward had already replied requesting information about what I was looking for and the current condition of my hair. Edward was incredibly responsive, thorough and professional. The color he mixed up was more perfect than I ever thought possible; especially considering how carefully he had to weave the color in between blonde highlights and orange. He took his time, educating me along the way and sent me home with products that I am now using regularly. This was the first time I have ever left a salon feeling so happy and my hair feeling so healthy. The color was beautiful and I am so grateful to have found a salon that has a long, outstanding reputation (for obvious reasons). This was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Every person in the salon was friendly and helpful. The bottom line is that Edward is truly gifted and the end result of that is that the customers benefit from his knowledge and the highly talented staff. The negative reviews of his salon are just silly. Anyone who lives in Marin knows how some people are just unhappy people who can't be pleased and have nothing nice to say and nothing better to do than complain about everything. So it's always unfortunate when those individuals enter your establishment, but for the rest of us who work hard and who truly appreciate the value of quality work and quality people, Edwards salon is like finding the pot of gold. read more

great staff, good hair cuts and highlights. worth the money

After reading a few of the reviews on here that suggested Donna is the person to see if you are looking for a change, I took the plunge...I could not have been happier that I did so! As a guy who had been growing out my hair for a little too long, I asked her to keep it "longish" but to give it some more style and just make it look better. That's about it as far as direction. She went to work and explained her technique throughout...as well as pointing out some of the bigger challenges with my hair (which I was all too aware of already). In no time, I had a completely refined and MUCH better look. It was exactly what I had hoped for and Donna did a great job of living up to her reputation and reviews! The biggest surprise to me is that she used no product at the end...typically, after a fairly dramatic cut, I would have required a lot of help keeping my hair from imitating a porcupine. She used NONE...and it looked and felt great...even better, it looks good the morning after. I'll definitely be back! read more

I usually went to a different salon in the city but decided to try one closer to home because I lived in Novato. My neighbor swore by this salon so I made my appointment and saw Angela (Angie?) for my haircut and I believe the previous review, she did an incredible job. . I was a bit exhausted and she let me relax without forcing conversation which most stylists do. She was very bubbly and I enjoyed our conversation. I will return to her specifically. So why did I dock two stars? I was going to dock just one but a worker there was flat out rude to me so I took TWO off, not one. I dont think she was a receptionist because I was greeted by one but possibly an employee. She was brunette with an arm ful of tattoos who made eye contact with me with the sourest look on her face and just walked off without asking anything. Then she walked past me when she saw a friend and chatted her up asking if she needed anything. This was my first impression of the salon which put me in a mood but my stylist really cheered me up. I was going to ask her about this woman but she always seemed nearby so I didnt read more
