I have (well, had) long, thick hair and visited salons never more than twice a year, and I had been moving around so much that I never went back to the same salon or stylist -- partly because I'm impatient and would rather get it done NOW than wait for an appointment, and partly because I never really got a cut that I loved enough to bother going back to the same person. That has all changed now -- Vicki is my hair hero! I used to think my hair was boring, but she has totally inspired me. The whole experience at Edwards was fantastic. I came in knowing that I wanted to chop off the length (from armpit length to above the shoulders) and that I wanted bangs, but I was flexible and really didn't have a strict idea of what I wanted. Vicki took my vague ideas and translated them into EXACTLY what I wanted, but hadn't known how to verbalized. She took out the bulk with some internal layers, gave me cute swoopy bangs that are perfect for someone like me who hasn't had bangs since she was 8. I HIGHLY recommend this place, and Vicki especially. Very decent price, too. Edward's has been one of the best experiences in salons. I moved to the North Bay from San Francisco 15 years ago and I thought I'd never find someone who knew how to "do" Asian hair. I actually resorted to going to the City every 8 weeks for a color and cut. Then someone recommended Edward's and what a find! Not only do I get to save on bridge toll, parking, hassle and an extra 1 hour to my commute, but I actually have fun at my appointments. I always get the complimentary beverage of choice (I love the fresh lattes), and a smile cheery reception. Then, of course, nothing but the best, Edward. I have never questioned his judgment as to what he thinks would be best. After all, I studied to be an attorney, not a hairdresser. So why wouldn't I trust him to know what's best. And he always comes through. Whether it's hair color, hair length, hair style. If I'm bored, I tell him and he totally knows whats best for ME. They say the first step is admitting so here goes. I am a...control freak when it comes to my hair. There, it's out in the open and I feel relieved! Haha! My stylist, Cathy, at Edward's Salon in Mill Valley has always known me to be super particular, especially when it comes to hair drying time. I just have little areas I like with more volume or direction and fortunately Cathy tolerates this freakiness and just goes with it. I recently had my first Mom's Night Out since giving birth to my daughter and I wanted to shine. I decided to try Edward's Salon's new Blow Dry Bar within the salon. After moving to Marin last year, I've tried a few other hair salons in the area, but have settled on Edward's Salon as my favorite! I was a bit put off by the staff 2 other salons I tried, but found both the receptionist and my stylist, Angela Rose, at Edward's to be very friendly, made me feel comfortable, and did a great job. I was just looking for a shape up of my current hair style and Angela Rose did a very nice job of making it look great, and made sure I was happy with it along the way. She also did a great job with my bangs which I'm always picky about! They also have online scheduling which is super convenient, especially with quick bang trims in-between haircuts. read more

Having moved to Marin, thought I would look for a new hair stylist and spare myself the drive to SF. Made an appt with Julie, recommend by my friend. Not only did it take her over an hour to cut my hair -during which she was talking to someone else the ENTIRE time. Did not ask me anything! Not even to ask how I like to part my hair! At the end, she had her assistant in training dry my hair while she took care of another customer. Then she came over and said, doesn't it look great! Ended up with a cut and style that did NOTHING for my features. Sorry I spent the $150, to have an assistant in training finish the job! Not going back. read more

I have been looking in Marin county for years for someone I like for hair cuts and color. I have tried several and even stuck it out with a few to see if it got better after they got to know me and my style. But nope, not until I found Edwards. My hair stylist/artist/colorist, of 20 years sadly passed in a terrible accident about 6 years ago, and I've been on the hunt ever since. I absolutely love Edward and his whole team. I've had Edward cut it now about 5 times and each time he somehow follows exactly what I am envisioning, as I try to explain. I got home recently and thought I wanted it a bit shorter and a bit choppier, he made room for me, and fixed it all up, free of charge of course! He's the best! I can tell he runs a very good shop and everyone there seems so happy. That means something. I got to one of my appointment early, and he was holding a little meeting with his staff. Everyone was laughing and having fun during the team meeting. I can tell he's a great guy to work for too, as a business owner myself, I know how great and rare that can be. I can't say enough about Edward and his shop. It's super convenient, right off 10, great open space, 1 wall full of sliding glass doors so lots of air and light, which turned out to be an added bonus for sure! I've been getting my long, difficult hair highlighted and cut by Jason at Edward's for about 10 years now, and every time I leave the salon, my hair looks better than ever. Jason has done an amazing job lightening up my naturally dark blonde/light brown hair to varying degrees of blonde with full, half, or partial highlights- and no matter which he's done, my hair always ends up looking seamlessly natural, even when I stretch out my time between appointments to almost a year... He's done amazing things with my long roots, not to mention split ends. With all the lightening I've had done, my hair should be fried, but the products and treatments they use are definitely the best I've had at any salon, the most impressive of which being their fantastic keratin treatment, which turned my hour-long post-shower blow drying or flat-iron-frying ritual into a quick, no-fuss towel dry. My hair was suddenly silky, straight/wavy- and, most importantly, easy to manage. I am so glad I found Edward's/Jason. Even the longest full-head highlighting appointments pass quickly because Edward's is just a really pleasant place to be. The stylists are all very personable, the salon itself is stylish and polished (the new renovation = very well done), and I have never in ten years left with anything less than an amazing cut and color. This review is for Angie and one of the assistants (my apologies as I am really bad with names but she is a Jennifer Lawrence look alike) July 28- I called and left a message for the receptionist 9am and she was super efficient in calling me back, we talked and I asked her to put me on the cancellation list for Angie. Within an hour, got a call back and I was confirmed for 5:45pm. The whole experience was just awesome from shampoo (with a mini neck massage) to the cut. I was extremely nervous when I was looking for a new stylist but Erica put my nerves at ease and has done a consistently remarkable job with my highlights and my haircut. I live in Sacramento but I always travel to Mill Valley to see Gabbie for my hair! Gabbie has cut my hair for years. We've done everything from a short bob to long layers. People in Sacramento ask where I go for my hair and think it's crazy to travel so far but it's so worth it! Last year she introduced to the Keratin Treatment. Why have I been going into the city for a great cut and highlights when Edwards is just around the corner? I loved my stylist but since she took some time off to have a baby it's been hit or miss in the haircut department. Sure, I've had some good cuts from salons in San Francisco but nothing worth the trouble of going into the city, paying for parking, etc. And one of the places I tried in Larkspur...well, it was amateurish at best. In February, a friend recommended Edward and I was surprised at the quality of cut, pleasant surroundings and friendly people. No fuss, no muss and a terrific result. I wasn't sold until I went back this week to see how he did with my highlights...and he did a beautiful job. Gennie refused to color my hair because I asked more than 2 questions. She said she didn't have any more time. They must really rush you in any rush you out here. She didn't have the expertise to answer me and became flustered. All I said was I wanted to make sure there wasn't going to be any extreme banding in the color. I repeatedly said this is hairstyling jargon I don't understand and just do whatever you feel is best. I said I trust you. Just do what you think is best. But she said she didn't think she could work with me. After only two minutes. I kept saying do whatever you want and I was trying to understand the jargon but didn't. And then she gave up on me. Very disheartening. I waited a week for this appointment and now I have to wait another week for another appointment someone else who is 40% more expensive. They double-booked and said they didn't have more than five minutes for consultation that they should have scheduled into my appointment. The girl at the reception was nice and apologized after I kept expressing disbelief that somehow my appointment evaporator than three minutes flat. I certainly cannot recommend the salon. I've never ever had this happen in a salon. read more

So after reading Yelp reviews and seeing a good "bob" cut on a friend I tried the same stylist, Linsey. Like a dork I even brought pics to show the general idea of the cut or style I was looking for and asked her opinion if it was do-able on my straight yet wavy, medium, normally not a problem, hair. Picture Ellen De Generes or Owen Wilson: casually messy. Yep, no problem, but also no questions so that might have been my first tip off that we weren't on the same page. After a fast ! 20 minute haircut and $60+ bucks, I had a straight, short "pixie" cap , the same cut I wanted when I was twelve and my mom said nope, I wouldn't look good with all those bangs. Guess what....mom was right! No layers, long heavy side bangs yet too short on the other side. I even said "Oh, are we done?" surprised, when she was removing the cape because I was sure there was going to be more to the cut to make it look even a little like what I wanted. And it had so little taken off I knew I would need a cut again in just a few weeks! I was so devastated at the reality vs. the idea I had walked in with, I was speechless and left in a hurry before I said something too rude or cried in front of them. On top of it all, they tried to sell me almost $100 worth of product "to keep the look". I couldn't wait to get home and try to do something with it to no avail. Next day at work, everyone commented on my hair all right but not in a good way: "Ohhhh, got a haircut, huh???? in a puzzled, confused, why-would-she do-that? kind of way. After reading over the reviews again, I notice there is a lot of talk about its ease of parking, convenience to SF, friendly staff and clean salon...all good things but I want to walk out happy with my look and satisfied with the chunk of change I just spent. I will spend more than usual if I am pleased with the result but deeply resent spending Marin money for what Supercuts could have done. Please have a consultation or check with others before wasting money at Edwards. P.S. And yes, I registered with Yelp after reading reviews for years just to place this review for Edwards. I am that disappointed and now wary of trying other salons based on someone else's haircut or review. Why oh why is it so hard to find a fantastic stylist??? read more

I live in San Diego, but do business in the Bay Area and get my hair styled only at Edward's. I know I'll leave there looking and feeling great, and being there is like visiting good friends. Melissa and Angela at the front desk are always so welcoming and the rest of the staff is equally terrific. Here's a little secret -- the shampooers are the best of the best! By the time my shampoo, scalp & neck massage are done, I'm so relaxed I'm practically asleep. Having my hair styled is like a trip to the best spa around.
