It's about Quality. I don't gush, and I'm a fickle customer. Having said that, I've been going to this place for at least ten years, but getting closer to twenty. I don't remember exactly how long I've been going, but when I find someone who is skilled and does a good job, I go back to that person. Every time I go to him, my friends say, "oh you got an Edward". I admit it. I'm stupid. As a guy, I don't really know how and when I look good. I can go to get a haircut at many other places (sometimes I have to as I'm out of the area). Nobody every notices those, and they never last as long. I have difficult to cut hair. Not only is it blond so it's harder to see, it's also thin and full. That's the easy part, I have a few other things that makes my hair difficult to cut, but I'll save your time and give you only one example. My hair tends to fro; Edwards educated me as to how to obtain a better haircut from normal places when I'm out of town, or whatever. They can always tell when someone else has done the treatment. I find it humorous. Mostly when I go to other shops they put a haircut on me. Edwards designs the haircut to look good on my head. That's the simple difference, the difference I come back for. I almost forgot about the hair wash! oh it's nice... I like to call it the massage-wash, very relaxing. Quality. I can't say it enough times. read more

I have been going to Edward's Salon for a few years, now. I started out as a hair model for Emily, and still go to her every 3 months for a cut and half-head highlight. I LOVE going for various reasons. First and foremost, I get a great haircut every time, and my color is perfect. (I actually went to a cheaper place for a cut and color once in Mill Valley back in 2004, and I totally regretted it. I ended up spending MORE money because I had to go to Edward's so they could fix all the mistakes the other stylist/salon made. Emily asks questions and really listens. Recently I wanted a fun, shorter, more trendy do that would require little to no time to fix. (I have 4 little girls, 4 and under.) She delivered! Easy and cute! I just went last Wednesday and I've already received a bunch of compliments on my hair! One time I even had a perfect stranger approach me and asked me for my stylist's name because she thought the highlights looked so good. Another reason why I love Emily and Edwards is that I get that "me-time"....time to sit back, read a magazine (yes, with 4 kids, this only happens every 3 months when I go to Edward's,) enjoy a warm cookie and some tea, and get....an awesome shampoo. I traveled from San Diego for Mother's Day weekend and to redo my look. Internet research (including Yelp) rocketed Edwards Salon to the top of my list. The Stylist bios. led me to Cathy and the rest, as they say, is history. Cathy spent thoughtful and helpful time in her consultation and then about an hour carefully crafting a cut which showcases my curly hair and eliminated about five inches of growth. Besides the fabulous cuts, sumptuous colors and perfect blowouts, Edward has talked me out of getting bangs on numerous occasions. Okay, there was that one time that I pleaded with him to cut bangs for me and he did, but only after warning me that I wouldn't be happy, and of course he was right. I was miserable with my bangs. Let me be clear--Edward cut, styled and dried them beautifully. The bangs weren't the problem, I was the problem. He understands my hair, and taming my bangs takes more patience than I'll ever have. Did I mention that besides understanding my hair Edwards also knows a thing or two about my personality? Not surprising since I've trusted him with my tresses since before he even owned the salon that is now Edwards. Not only does my hair look fantastic whenever I leave Edwards Salon, but it is obvious to me that Edward goes to great lengths to make sure that every client walks out feeling pampered from the time he/she enters to the time he/she leaves. When I walk in the door, I am always greeted by smiling faces and a personal greeting. When an assistant walks by,she always asks if she can get me anything: water, tea, or any of a variety of coffee drinks that are available. On the table in front of the couch where I sit if I have to wait, there may be fresh fruit, freshly-baked cookies, or even mimosas! If I want a manicure or pedicure, I can make an appointment for that! Every person I come in contact with has a smile and a positive attitude. Roxanne has been cutting and coloring my hair for several years. She is more than flexible in scheduling early or late appointments if I need it. However, if she is not available, Edward or Linsey have taken over with similar results. Not only is my hair always (and I do mean always) beyond my expectations, but I know that the cut and color will be sustained for the 20-30 days till my return. I am not someone who is talented in styling my own hair, but I don't have to worry. With a minimum of effort on my part, my hair always look good. I should start by saying that I have never had my hair cut or colored at Edward's so I have no comment on that. However, I did have my hair done on my wedding day at Edward's Salon along with my four bridesmaids and it's a decision I really regret. Since I was getting married in Marin and had heard good things about Edward's Salon I decided to give them a call to see if they had someone how did updo's. They told me they had a stylist who specialized in updo's and wedding hair so I set up a trial session. I brought pics for her to emulate and she did 3 mock hairdo's, one which we decided would be the do for the wedding. I wasn't watching the clock, but when I finally looked I realized I had been in there for almost 2.5 hours! I was concerned about the amount of time it took, but the stylist assured me that she could do it much quicker the day of the wedding since it was only one updo. So, I paid my $125 for the trial session (expensive I know, but I figured it would be worth it since it was my wedding) and confirmed the appointments for the wedding day. In order to get everyone done by the time we had to leave, 2 of the girls would have to get their hair done by another stylist who I was told was equally skilled with updos. So, I felt confident and was assured that we would all be done in time. Unfortunately, that's not how things worked out on my wedding day. My stylist was totally unrealistic about how long it takes her to do updos and was very inefficient when working with more than one client. I felt like she could have been multitasking - like putting rollers in two girls at time or asking an assistant to do that. I think that she was either inexperienced or just has no concept of time. because my stylist was so slow and behind schedule, my sister (also my maid of honor), who had her hair done last only had about 10 minutes to put on her makeup and get dressed when she got back to the hotel before we had to race off to the ceremony - unbelievable! Ultimately, the stylist's inability to manage time caused me to be an hour late to my own wedding!!! Not to mention one of my bridesmaids who had her hair done by the other stylist was so unsatisfied with her hair that she left the salon in tears and had to redo her hair completely when she got back to the hotel room. Thankfully, my bridesmaid refused to pay the $125 (like the rest of us had to pay) that they were going to charge her for her messy do. Bottom line - Edward's Salon added a lot of stress to my wedding day, caused me to be late to my own wedding and charged us all way too much money for a mediocre job. They do not have experienced enough stylists to do updo's well and in the timeframe that you need them done so they should not advertise that they can do it. The only place I go to get my hair done. I see Cathy and she is amazing. I trust her with my hair, I know she won't let me walk out of the door looking bad. I have seen Cathy for a few years now and every time I see here it's like seeing an old friend. I have several members of my family and friends that go here to other stylists and their hair always looks amazing too. The products they use/sell are great. I'm thanking my lucky stars I now live in the city.I went here last about 2 years ago and was forking out up to $270!What for you ask?Highlights a cut and blow dry.The same thing, only much better,costs me $125 in the city at my fave place,Oxenrose. Sure,Edwards is swanky,but also a bit "wanky" for my liking.The English old bag who worked there when I was a customer was a dog.Her personality sucked,and it made me question how on earth she managed to keep clients.Then I remembered I was in Mill Valley..Such a wonderful part of the world,and some wonderful folk live there,but some very big snobs are there too. Waaay too shi-shi for me .I must say,I had a fabulous hair stylist (I'm having a bout of amnesia,I'll come back and put her name in when I can remember as it was a while ago since I was there) She was great,full of life and knew what she was doing.However,the price was a big deal to me! I am a regular client at Edward's Salon and for many reasons. The service is always friendly and inviting and it is, in fact the most stress-free salon I have ever been to. I like that over the past several years that I have been going for color, there is little turn-over. It's nice to see the same smiling faces each time I return for color. I believe the employees in any establishment are always a good indication of what the owner is like - and Edward is someone who demonstrates professionalism, care, and an interest in pleasing his clients. I would recommend this salon (and I do) to anyone, well unless you like snooty and inconsistent, which is generally the case in many SF hair salons I've frequented in the past. First, the positives (very few), and this from a guy, very rare from the reviews I've read prior to booking. 1. Stylist was actually on time 2. Offered me a drink (water), which I requested...should have had something w/ kick;) Didn't realize I would be there so long. Ok, now the negatives... 1. Apparently, the "master", was "teaching" another how to "blow dry", so interruptions took take place. VERY unprofessional! 2. Appointment was an HOUR AND A HALF!!! Not a difficult "cut". I noticed she kept making mistakes and cut my hair so short to make up for it. WAY to long for such a horrible cut. Overall, would NOT go back. Was referred to Donna about 4 years ago and she's a great stylist. Takes great pains with each cut -- won't let you get out of the chair until she's checked everything 3 times from every angle! She also has a good eye for what looks good on you and steered me into a shorter style I wouldn't have thought of on my own but which has been just right. Her policy, for men's styles anyway, is to offer a "clean up" trim at no cost in between cuts. So I do a cut every month and a cleanup visit right in the middle at the two week interval. read more

I found Edwards on the web and read some reviews about them before deciding on getting my hair done there. I called to make an appointment and told them what had been going on with my hair and what I wanted done and they placed me with Jamie. When I arrived, Jamie and I sat down and discussed what I was looking for and she gave it to me straight. Told me that I couldn't achieve the exact desired look because of the length of my hair but that we could do something close. I left there with a better cut than I wanted. It is so cute and hip and easy to manage. I would totally recommend Edward's to anyone. The only downfall is the cost. It is a little pricey, but I guess you have to pay that if you want something great. read more

The Best kept secret. Edwards salon is worth the drive out of S.F. I spent years bouncing around S.F. salons from the large downtown salons to the small boutique salons throughout the mission and soma. While I always received decent style/color I never connected with any of the stylist/colorist. I met Vicki L. from Edwards last year and I will be loyal to her forever! She is not only extremely talented in cutting and coloring. (I think she did some apprentice program for a few years.) Vicki is pleasant to be around. Angela Rose is now my go-to stylist. After having her for my daughter's bridal hair updo, I started going to her for my cut and color. I love what she has done on both fronts. I frequently get unsolicited comments about my cut, even from strangers. No one seems to know I color my hair so that means she is doing it just right IMHO as it looks very natural. She listened carefully to what I wanted and picked a cut that works very well with my hair type and face. I can wash and blow dry it easily myself and it lays well between washes. I received a very good cut at Edwards -- a 4 star cut. However, I have received comparable very good cuts- in San Francisco, Petaluma, Oakland, and Santa Rosa - for half or almost half of what they charge here. I'd say, if you are new to the area and need a haircut in a pinch, pay a good deal of money and get a good cut at Edwards. If you have time to look elsewhere for a comparable cut at half the cost, do some research (thanks yelp!) and take your hard earned money elsewhere! After 25 years with the same hairdresser (whom I love) I needed a new haircut. Something to be current and work with my somewhat complicated hair. Then comes Julie Casady.And I cheated on my hairdresser. Mind you her haircuts are worth every penny which I am not used to paying. She knows hair structure, head structure and what works. I moved here 2 years ago and did not relish the task of finding a new stylist - especially since my Chicago one was SO GOOD! A friend referred me to her stylist in San Francisco, and I went several times, but at my last cut when she said "oops, I'm not sure what I did there" I decided it was time to bite the bullet and get a real stylist. So I looked here on yelp, saw all the good reviews about Edward's Salon and took a chance. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist was very helpful and answered all my questions. I was also very pleased to hear that their stylists are Vidal Sassoon trained so I knew right away that I would get a well-trained professional and a good precision cut. I made an appointment with Vicki and I **LOVE** my hair cut! I also love the fact that they have a parking lot and I don't need to plan extra time to find a spot on a San Francisco city street. I will definitely be using their online appointment booking option since I never seem to remember to call during business hours. The salon was clean, chic, and really easy to get to off the highway. The prices seem high if you're comparing them to SuperCuts or the like, but if you compare them to salons of the same quality, their prices are pretty standard. She has never steered me wrong, and I always leave the salon feeling amazing and get so many compliments on my hair. I started out just getting my haircut from her and over the years decided I wanted to start highlighting my hair to keep up my natural blonde. I have been getting my haircut with Julie for over a decade. I don't wear makeup, so my hair plays a very important part in "my look" as vain as it sounds. Each time I come in, she always asks, "What are we doing for you today?" I like the "we" part because it includes she and I in the equation. And, as I speak, she listens, gives a nod, and then tells me whether it's possible. My hair's been cut short, short..grown long, layered, colored, straightened, styled with my natural curls, and so on. The outcome has been consistent: simply excellent. I've always liked what she has done for me. I followed her from the salon in SF to Marin because she's talented, updated, and so honest with what she has to work with. Very professional in my opinion. For years she has taught students in the evenings in order to share her knowledge and expertise and to encourage and further their talent. I trust her assistants because they always check in with her before the comb or shampoo touches my hair, plus she's always a few feet away to check over their work. It's a brilliant system that allows growth for her as a mentor, as it builds the students' confidence...interestingly, it accentuates the established trust between she and the client. Being in the salon with Julie is fun and exciting. I've found out about the best restaurants, great places to vacation, and had the most interesting conversations about life and animals. I have (well, had) long, thick hair and visited salons never more than twice a year, and I had been moving around so much that I never went back to the same salon or stylist -- partly because I'm impatient and would rather get it done NOW than wait for an appointment, and partly because I never really got a cut that I loved enough to bother going back to the same person. That has all changed now -- Vicki is my hair hero! I used to think my hair was boring, but she has totally inspired me. The whole experience at Edwards was fantastic. I came in knowing that I wanted to chop off the length (from armpit length to above the shoulders) and that I wanted bangs, but I was flexible and really didn't have a strict idea of what I wanted. Vicki took my vague ideas and translated them into EXACTLY what I wanted, but hadn't known how to verbalized. She took out the bulk with some internal layers, gave me cute swoopy bangs that are perfect for someone like me who hasn't had bangs since she was 8. I HIGHLY recommend this place, and Vicki especially. Very decent price, too. I'm happy to say I'm motivated enough now to have my hair cut (by Vicki of course) more often than once or twice a year! read more
