I went to Edward a couple times a couple years ago. I'm a man and I keep my hair on the long side. I had a really hard time getting him to not cut it too short. He would also chide me if I came in too long after the previous cut, saying my hair grew out too much and he could not tell how to cut it. I moved to CA three years ago from NYC. I was thinking that I would never find a great colorist/stylist like I had there - I was wrong!!! I found Maritza Johnson by looking up opinions on Yelp! She was at another salon when I first met her but has since moved to Edward's. No matter where I go - San Fran, NYC, FL at least one woman will come up to me everyday and tell me she loves my color and asks who did it. Maritza takes the time to find the right color for you - and it always looks great. She completes my look by giving me a great trim each and every time - so my hair always looks professional. Based on other Yelpers reviews, I stopped in to Edwards while I was in the area. Edward was nice enough to squeeze me in for a quick cut without an appointment. I got a great cut, exactly what I asked for. The price was a little more than I was used to, but I'm still getting acquainted to the higher cost of living in the bay area. After reading the reviews here on Yelp, I made an appointment with Edward. He seems to be a very nice person, and is very patient. The haircut he gave me is the worst haircut I have ever had in my entire life. It cost forty five dollars before tip. Sixty after tip, as he was nice, and seemed to be trying. This is on the high end of the average price I pay for haircuts. It looks like some sort of high school kid's butchered haircut. It's almost as if I cut it myself. There are distinct 'chunks' of hair, my 'layers' look like a staircase. It was also cut shorter then the 4 inches we agreed upon, so it's too short for me to have it re-cut without being much too short. He cut at least six inches off according to my tape measure. I may have to get it re-cut anyways it's so terrible. It's going to take me a year to recover from this horrible haircut! addendum: If my decision to tip is confusing, I give tips based on attitude and effort, and I felt that the service was good on both of those counts, despite the outcome of the haircut. I measured my hair before the haircut, and after, with a tape measure. The longest point is now actually 7 inches shorter, however the general length is 6 inches shorter as my hair was previously layered, and now has a generally flat cut across. For people who wear glasses, and must remove them during the haircut, it is difficult to accurately see what is happening during the haircut. The verbal description of 'four inches' is what I rely upon more so then the visual cue, as the image I see in the mirror is entirely blurred. I also expected the four inches to measured from the longest point of my hair, not the midway point between my longest and shortest layers. After washing and drying, the cut seems to make my hair settle in a very unattractive way. I do not straighten or otherwise style my hair, and I prefer a more natural look. There is one chunk of bangs cut from hair growing from approximately one square inch of scalp in an oval shape right at the front/center of my hairline. This chunk of hair is cut flat across the bottom, and comes down to the hollow of my cheeks and is particularly distressing in it's unattractiveness. I will attempt a revision on the chunks surrounding my face, particularly so on the one center chunk which likes to fall out together in a single flat-bottomed lump, but I will wait for the rest to grow for at least half a year (estimated 3 inches) before another cut. I've been going to Edward for over 12 years. He's simply the best hair artist I've ever been to. I now have 6 friends (both men and women) who also go to him which is a much better compliment than a review can ever give. He's been cutting hair since the 80's and uses great care. As a man I have very thick hair and he uses thinning shears to get it to lay perfectly. For women he's not afraid to tell you what he thinks and the best way to take care of your hair. read more

I love Edward's Salon!!! I am a Vietnamese girl from San Jose and wanted to color my hair but did not want to go to one of those cheap salons where the hairstylist doesn't give a shit about what you truly want! While wanting to have a nice color for the summer without wanting to hurt my wallet, I turned over to yelp to lead the way. After reading many reviews, it led me to Edward's Salon. This salon is particularly a little smaller than other salons. Inside is very modern looking and reaalllyy clean! Thats always a plus because I hate walking into a salon with hair everywhere-- yuck! There was only one other client upon my arrival and about 3 workers at the time. A young Vietnamese/Korean looking guy welcomed me in as soon as I stepped inside and asked what can he help me with. Immediately I was able to sit down and get started. He really listened to what I had to say and it seemed like he genuinely cared about my needs. We went over samples together and he even called over Edward for his advice on what color would suit me best. Edward is a true sweetheart! He explained that since my hair has been colored and bleached so many times, its best if I do not go too light because he doesn't want to damage my hair anymore. Other salons would just do anything to get their money. As soon as we agreed on a color that was nice and did not damage my hair, they were putting in work! My stylist, Loi, is very easy going and can really carry on a conversation. At one point I forgot I was gettig my hair done because we were just chatting away the whole time. I love being pampered but I really dislike the chemical smells. Another really big plus about this salon is their air ventilation! It does not smell like a salon inside at all which is comforting to clients like me=]. Once I was done I was really surprised at how good the color came out because I always had some type of color in my hair since who knows! This place is fantastic! Overall, the area is super clean and the environment is friendly as well. I stopped by to get my haircut with Edward who knew a vareity of different hair styles that fit to a good price. Most hair places tend to cut within 15-20 minutes however there wasn't any rush at all. Decided to stop by the following week and sat down with Loi who already knew what style I wanted wthout explaining much. The hair product he suggested turned out to be great and I use it everyday. If i could give him no stars i would. I went in and asked if he could do my hair a certain way, i showed him a picture and i could tell he was unsure of what he was doing. i kept telling him it was ok if he couldn't do it and he kept insisting that he could. so 3 hours later my hair looked almost the same as it did when i walked in. I told him i didn't like it and he said to come in the following week and he would try to fix it. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, but i shouldn't have. I should have refused to pay him until I came back and he fixed it. The following week, i got a call and his assistant said he had to reschedule my hair appointment. I was not happy. I was going out of town and needed it fixed. I asked to be refunded and his assistant said she would have him call me back. He never called. I tried to reach him multiple times and he never contacted me. I will never go back to him! i found a new hair stylist in San Jose. it's a bit further, but i'd rather drive the extra few min, than to settle. The least he could have done was to call me back! He couldn't even do that, because he knew he messed up on my hair and didn't know what he was doing. read more

Called Edward early on a Friday morning and he was able to get me in on the same day. His assistant did my shampoo, Edward did the cut and then his assistant did my blowout. Edward did a fantastic job and then reshaped it a bit after the blowout. I was very happy with his haircut. I will definitely go back. Great location for me as well. Edward really knows what he's doing. The haircut is GREAT. I always like to do my hair a few times myself before making a judgment on the cut. The best hairstylist I have ever had! I was looking for a good hairstylist for a very long time, almost a year now, since I first moved here to the bay area. My hair was always a sensitive issue for me and it was very important for me to find someone who will be attentive, patient and above all- professional. And I must tell you- I found him, Eduard is definitely my one. I scheduled an appointment with Eduard for a Japaneses hair straightening a week ago. When I called, he answered and even then, when I could hear he was very busy, he was very nice and answered all of my questions. the price sounded very reasonable and the yelps reviews were very good so I decided to take a chance and go for it. I came today morning at 10 and he immediately started working on my hair, he and his assistant Sherill were so nice and devoted that I felt calm the whole time- for Seven Hours (!!!). Yes I have a lot of hair and Eduard, very calmly and thoroughly, worked on every inch of my hair until he reached - PERFECTION! I have done a few hair straightening in the last few years- and this was by far- THE BEST. And as if it wasn't enough- he gave me a perfect haircut (included in the price) and I got out from the place just glowing from happiness... It was just today and I have already gotten lots of compliments. for me, Eduard is definitely a keeper and I strongly recommend him for anyone!! read more

I usually don't want to write any reviews, but I think I need to do it for the service that I had today. I think Edward's Salon was over rated, and I'm especially very disappointed with Edward's "PROFESSIONAL" manner. I usually went to my stylist for a $50 hair cut until she was not available recently. I trusted the reviews from Yelp and hopefully it could help me to find one which was closer to my home. I was impressed by the reviews and make an appointment with Edward. I had my hair cut with him today, and his courtesy made me feel welcomed. The interior design of the Salon and his appearance looked very stylish until he started to cut and style my hair. His hair dryer was too hot and burned my left ear when he blow dryed my hair. He just stopped to blow dry my hair immediately when I complained. He thought his comb was pinching my ear, and I told him the hair dryer was too hot. He seemed displeased with my complaint and did not apologize. Then he tried to rush through the final trimming, and give me the small mirror to the final check. First, I put on my pair of glasses to check my left ear with the mirror, because it's hurting. It's all red and hot. I could see he turned his face to his side and showed his unpleasant facial expression. Second, He did not help me to turn the chair to check the other side of hair. I could feel he tried to get rid of my injury and rush through the appointment. I usually would like to give some tips to the good service, but this time I didn't. I rushed to my home to get a ice pack on my ear. I always got praises and was asked for referrals, but not this hair stylist. read more

This was my first time I went to Edward's. I called Edward for an appointment at 11:30am and he gave me a same day appointment at 3pm. Edward is a very friendly guy and he knows exactly what the customer wants. This was my first time getting a proper hair cut. I used to get my hair trimmed earlier but you can imagine with somebody having long hair until the waist how scared that person can be if the hair cut is not proper. I called Edward's Salon in advance and asked if they give complimentary hair cuts for patrons donating their hair to Locks For Love. I spoke with Edward personally and he confirmed that they do in fact give complementary cuts so I scheduled an appointment. The cut was average, although I didn't feel like I got adequate attention. It takes over two years for me to grow out my hair in order to donate it, so when I chop it off it is a special event. While cutting my hair, Edward went back and forward with two other clients, cutting their hair simultaneously. This was not the salon experience I was hoping for. Finally, at the end of the cut he charged me $45. I told him that I had expected the cut to be free and reminded him of my phone call earlier that week. He feigned innocence and said he didn't know what "complimentary" meant. I am on a very fixed income and did not have $45 to spend on a haircut. Had I known he would charge me the full amount, I would not have come. This was a very disappointing experience and I will not return. read more

Edward is one if the best hairstylists in Mountain View. He is very professional and given his 20-year experience in the industry he has solid technique in layering, coloring and styling. I stated to gray and his techinque of blending cor with the natural hair color seems to work well. The only downside of going to Edwards is that he is so busy that you may need to adjust ur availability to fit his schedule (so be sure to make an appointment 2-3 days prior). But hey... it's tiny price to pay for his extraordinary skill set :) read more

I can't speak to color, but for a man's haircut they do excellent work. If you want consistent and professional work, this is a good place and the price is good - for professional work. I really wanted to like this place, esp. because I saw great Yelp reviews and the salon is located close to my home. Unfortunately, I think the high number of stars for this place is unmerited. I tried this place out for the first time to touch up my highlights. I said to match my existing highlights as best they could, knowing the match would not be exact but needs to be close. My original highlights which they saw on my head are a very subtle brown and subtle red and my natural hair color is black. After they were done, my highlights came out blonde! My husband and sister both asked me, why is your hair blonde? I did not even see this right after my appointment but hours later noticed my head was full of blonde highlights...not even CLOSE to what I had before. Ok, so that is not the worst part. I don't even think I would be writing this negative review if it were "just" a technical error. Why I have chosen to go ahead and write this review is because I found one of the ladies who works there to be rude and condescending and I'm truly puzzled why other people had such a different experience than me. Believe me that I wanted to have a great experience! Edward seemed professional at least in his treatment of customers.
