Now, Jeanie knows exactly how to cut and when slightly shorter is needed for camping trips. She is very friendly, efficient and yet takes time to "fine tune" the end result. I don't need anything fancy and I'm glad that I don't have to pay fancy prices when I come here. I don't think that I can cut my hair as badly as Ken did even if I were blindfolded and had to tie my dominant arm behind my back. I asked to have half an inch trimmed from the top; Ken took off twice that. I asked for a 0.5 fade on the sides, Ken gave me a....what's a fade when there's no fade? The part where my "fade" meets the time is crooked. There's a literal jagged line with absolutely no blending. When I asked Ken to fix this he just informed me that my haircut was done. Worst haircut experience Ive ever had. I wanted to find a place that had asian barbers so they would be used to asian hair. But it doesnt really matter if the barber refuses to take instructions! When i walked in a woman on the left asked me to sit. I gave her BASIC instructions and she wasnt trying to hear any of it, saying that I barely want a hair cut. Im like you can take a half inch off, but at this point my instructions seemed to have made her nervous and shes laughing at my requests. Its like as if she was making sure I was ready to be disappointed because she regularly disappoints people who come in with any idea of what they want. I cant speak for the other barbers there but avoid the woman on the left. Its like getting a haircut from your mom who happens to also be having a very bad day. My go to haircut place. Jeanie (sp?) is friendly, happy, and efficient. Great value for a decent cut. Recommended to call in advance to book to avoid waiting times. Plus - right next door to a pizza place where you can get some tasty (but getting more expensive) breadsticks (cheesy not worth the effort). read more

Old habits die hard. I'd been getting my hair cut in SF for ages but the trek up there has gotten increasingly harder for me. Haircuts got farther and fewer in between. After looking at my shaggy self in the mirror one day, I decided to yelp some close by places. This place sounded like just the ticket. A short drive, no waiting, and a great haircut later, I found my new go to. The lady did mine this and she was motherly and friendly. Didn't cut my hair properly. Messed it up. The person also seemed in rush or disinterested in getting feedback while doing the hair cut.

Note: I've only been here once, so I'll update this review if things change with more visits. The biggest thing is: $12 for a men's haircut. Everywhere else I called was charging $19+. I'm a grad student with very little money. My hair is not worth that much, haha; I just need to look presentable. New Cuts is run by a nice Asian man and woman, Ken and Jenny. Jenny cut my hair, and she was pretty skillful and fast. I asked for "short on the sides, maybe a 1?" and she noted that my hair was really dense, and asked if I wanted to try even shorter with a fade. It turned out great. She was talkative, but in a fun manner, so I enjoyed it. Some people may not, but I'm sure if you just respond less to her questions and not ask questions back, the conversation will fizzle out and she'll get it. The location is nice. I have been going to another salon for many years... however, the one woman show was on vacation for... probably a month by now so I have to find someone else. The Asian guy is pretty quiet and the lady, Jenny is pretty talkative as some of the review stated. The dog Marbel (?) is also very friendly. What I like about this place are: 1. $10 hair cut for adult 2. They listen to us on how to cut the hair. The old place I went to, no matter what you said, your hair came out about the same as she always does. Ken was working with me how I want it and was pretty patience. I was a little nervous in the beginning cause he uses the shaver pretty high up but he did use scissor to cut afterward. My son want a different kind of hair cut, the non-shave kind (besides the sides and back), and Jenny did a pretty good job... so far, it looks great at a glimpse but will find out how it looks like later. Anyway, for $10, this is a great value. 3. Fast The problem one has choosing a value hair cut for $10 is you wonder if they know what they are doing. I've been to couple of them in the same area where those ladies really don't know how to cut hair but just buzz it short... that's dangerous. Ken and Jenny has been around for a while, and for my situation, Ken did a better job, possibly because he knows men's hair style. I've been coming to Jenny for some time now. She is super funny and I always enjoy getting my haircuts with her. I have super curly hair and I find that only Jenny knows the proper way to cut curly hair. I made a mistake of going to someone else during this pandemic (because this salon was closed) and was in and out in less than 10 min. I was so upset. My hair was horrible. Pretty unbeatable price, I think it was $18 for my long hair. The lady that cut my hair was fun. I usually dread the awkward small talk that comes with haircuts, so I don't go as often as I should, but I enjoyed talking with her. She was very cautious about not taking off more than I was comfortable with, even though it was a mess and needed a massive trim. I took one star off because it ended up uneven in the back, with one side a bit longer than the other, but it's not terribly noticeable and it's still a solid cut given the low price. read more

Quick, convenient and affordable for a men's haircut ($9). I have been going here for 2 years now and always have left satisfied. Definitely recommend for any Asian, Latino and caucasian hair. You can walk in without any appointments. I cannot speak for the women's prices or women's haircuts but it seems that most women make appointments here. This is a great salon if you're looking to get a reasonably priced haircut. They're no hair stylist or professional experts, but they do a great job at this price ($12 for men, $19 for women). Both Ken and Jenny are excellent. I've paid $120 for a haircut that isn't as good as I get here. Jenny is funny and talks a lot so she's entertaining as well as good at what she does. I have had her cut my hair a few times. Ken is quiet and quick - and he is my favorite. He cuts my hair better than I've ever had it done. If you go here, the price is so low that I hope you give them a big tip. This married couple has been in business a long time, and they don't charge nearly what they could - so don't be cheap in your tip! I want them around a long time! read more

Note that there are at least two places named New Cuts in Mountain View which are not affiliated; I'm reviewing the one on Rengstorff Ave. next to the Pizza place, 7-11, and Laundromat. I've been getting my haircut here for years, driving all the way out from Morgan Hill, then later from San Jose and Sunnyvale after finding out that an acquaintance comes all the way out from Las Vegas to get his haircut here. I also later found out that my relatives from Napa were regulars, despite the long distance. Ken and Jeany are the best, and even though the haircut only costs $9, I often tip $6 more because of how good they are. I used to pay over $15 for haircuts, but they weren't as good as the ones I usually get from Ken or Jeany. At first, I mistakenly went to another place called New-Cuts because I didn't know the exact address, then had to find this New-Cuts to fix the terrible haircut I received at the other one. Jeany generously offerd to re-cut my hair for free, even though it was a totally unrelated competitor with the same name who messed it up, but I insisted on paying for my second haircut that day because of the wonderful job she did. I continue to come here for my haircuts, even though there are other places much closer to where I live. read more

I've been going to this place for years! $9 bucks and I'm outta there with a good haircut. I think this is the best kept secret in Mt. View. A friend told me about this place and I started going there. I've spent $20-$50 for haricuts at other places (salons, Santana Row, etc), and believe me, they aren't as good as this place. read more
