Was having transmission issues and other transmission repair businesses immediately recommended a new replacement at $5k or at worst a used transmission $4k. This owner at Edwards recognized my vehicle and despite shorting himself in the sale/installation recommended replacement of the main control valve. Apparently this is more common for Subaru Foresters. He was correct! Cost me just less than $1800 and I couldn't be happier. Very professional, prompt and good with the communication. My transmission went out on my way to work literally on Monday of all days. Rudy answered the phone when I called and got my truck towed for free to their shop. He helped me through the process, diagnosed the transmission issue and called me to tell when what's going on. I asked them to replace the transmission instead of rebuilding it. The price was good considering they had it done in a few days. Literally less than a week and replaced an O2 sensor for me no problems with transmission so far. read more

I drove my car here yet had to sign it over because I would not pay $4,000 for a custom built transmission for a car that I paid $6,000 for two years prior. I had to pay $300 for a diagnosis that I never received, they had no authorization to do any work to my car. They charge a storage fee after 14 days even if the car wasn't even finished. The store manager told me to shut up. On BBB the operations manager attacked me, there was no negotiation. They had my car on a lift, told me to come pick it up but it had no transmission in it. They sent it to ETE wholesale transmission. No apologies, I basically paid them $300 and signed over my car to be abused. read more

This escapade started on 10/26/2020. We have a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan that has just over 140k miles on it. I also have an extended warranty coverage on it. On her drive home from an errand, my wife called me & told me that the check engine light had come on & that the van was not sounding/running right. She limped the van home making sure to drive around 25 mph. When she got home, I plugged in my ODB2 tool and it gave a transmission code. Wanting to support local business, I thought I would give Edward's a try. Before taking the vehicle to their nearest shop (which was about 11 miles away), I called & verified that they do work with extended warranty companies. After they had had the van for a couple of days and had time to diagnose the issue, they determined it needed a replacement or rebuilt transmission. As per the extended warranty contract procedure, they had to pause work and report their findings to the warranty company. Then they had to wait on the warranty company to send their claims adjuster to their shop to check out/verify their findings. The warranty company determined that they would replace the transmission with a used one. So, the shop had to wait for the used transmission to be delivered, which I will grant them was out of their control. The guy(s) at the shop told me at the end of each call that they would call me as soon as it was delivered so that I would know that. After several phone conversations over several days with the shop to check to see if the replacement unit had been received, I ended up contacting the warranty company's claims adjuster directly myself to see what was going on. Long story short, due to unexplained delays from the parts supplier, it took several days to weeks for the used transmission to be delivered. I eventually found out that the delivery had occurred on 11/16. I think I had found that out on 11/18. Had the shop called me to tell me that they had it, NO. At this point we were without the vehicle for 3 weeks. When I did find out that they had the transmission, they were in the process of installing & and I was advised that the job should be complete by the end of that week (11/20). I thought all was back on track now that all repairs had been approved by the warranty company and the shop was in the process of putting the van back together. Then, Friday, 11/20 arrived and during a conversation with the shop about what time of day it might be that I could pick up the keys, they finally divulged to me that they would not be able to let me take the vehicle until they were in receipt of payment from the warranty company. They said they had been burned too many times previous by extended warranty companies. I thought "EXCUSE ME?!" They'd had my vehicle for almost a month at this point and they are just NOW telling me this tidbit. I was LIVID!!! Of course nobody from Edwards works on weekends to receive or process payments, so I had to wait unit Monday, 11/23 to do anything further. Over the next few days, I was back & forth between Edwards & the warranty company on trying to get the 2 sides in communication with each other to get the services paid. The people at Edwards do not have access to email, so everything HAD to be done via fax. FINALLY at 5 pm on Wednesday, 11/25 (the day before Thanksgiving), the guy at Edwards called me to let me know that they had just received the payment and that I could pick up the key at any time. They were open until 5:30. To me, when a place tells me they "work with extended warranties", that implies that they will release the item that had work done on it when that work is completed. The customer should not have the burden of ensuring the 3rd party payment placed on them in order to get the property back. I will not be giving any more business to Edward's. I'm sure they did the work well, but the customer service aspect was terrible! read more

My niece took her car there after some bogging and receiving a diagnostic test elsewhere showing an issue with her transmission . They had it 3 separate occasions 4hrs, 1 day, and 3 days. The last time they had it the once again told her they test drove it and they didn't find anything. 5 days and no explanation of any kind. When I spoke to kevin the manager at southport road he could not answer my simple questions and became angry and said come get your car. He didn't hang up the phone after the conversation and was heard telling his employees " that was the aunt, what a Bitch" do not take your car there they do not want your business and I only knew of the true extent of how much they value their customers because they don't even know how to hang up a phone before talking derogatory towards their customers. read more

Edwards Transmissions web site has his mother's comments but no phone number to contact them, you have to leave then your information and wait (hope) for then to contact you. how does this work for someone who car cannot be driven??? this is outrages that a business will not have a phone number for someone to contact them when they are in desperate need for mechanical need. not getting my car fixed in a timely manor will cost me my job, thanks Edward Transmission. read more

I'm shocked to read so many positive reviews from this place, but not so shocked when I see that they're all from first-time yelpers. Funny how most of the reviews have the same language and punctuation. I brought my Subaru Impreza WRX in for a quote on a non-warranty service, and I knew I was in trouble when he asked me how many cylinders and then tried to tell me my car was front wheel drive ... um hello, Subaru is known for their 4 cylinder boxer engines and ALL their vehicles are all wheel drive! I had a great experience with Edwards. I'd previously heard a lot of bad news about this company, particularly this location. But that was not my experience. Greg was very honest with me about the cost of potential repairs and what would need to be done. We ended up taking the vehicle to another place for body work assessment. In the end it needed to be totaled. Greg was honest enough to tell me the truth of the situation. I can't speak for the quality of repairs, but if the customer service and honest of the employees is any indication, it's a shop well-worth patronizing. At the very least for an assessment. Greg walked me through step by step and didn't engage in any action until getting permission from me. read more

Had my transmission rebuild in 2016, had to go back to get more things fixed early 2017. In 2018, I went to AAMCO, they told me Edwards just put a temporary bandaid on the issues and didn't fix ANYTHING permanently... Can I do a negative 10? I was told by the call center that the technicians would look at my 2013 Ford Escape, take it for a drive and maybe have to put it on the lift to diagnose the problem. All while I was there. On arrival, I was told this was not true but that I would have to leave the car for 2 days. I was told by Rich that he would call me that afternoon with a diagnosis and an estimate. No call received. I called the next morning and was told he had no information yet but would call me back that afternoon. When he did he said it would be $395 to do a thorough check. I agreed. The next day he calls to say repairs would be $3800. I said not to do them and to just put the car back together again. Rich said he could not do that. Parts were broken when they took the transmission apart and it couldn't be put together again. I asked if this was a scam. He denied this. I clarified that he was basically holding my car hostage. They had taken it apart and now it wouldn't run at all unless I paid $3800. He said that was correct, but perhaps he could give me a "senior" discount. He then said he would contact Mark Wolfe, the "owner" and he would deal with me. A few hours later I received a call from Mark Wolfe stating they were a good company and had a A- rating from the BBB. He would work with me. He then asked if I liked my vehicle. When I replied yes he said that was good. In the past he has worked with wives who just wanted a new car. The husband was trying to get everything in good working order but the wife would never be happy unless she got a new car. WHAT!?!?! He further explained that taking apart a transmission was like cracking open an egg. It couldn't be put back together again. (Neither could Humpty Dumpty but I didn't pay $395 to break him.) He tried to make a personal connection stating his employee had an illness and wasn't insured so couldn't buy the correct medication. Hmmm, so I am supposed to pay for his medication through this scam? Interesting. He continued in this manner and I told him I was insulted. I was also beginning to feel uncomfortable. He tried to back off. He then gave me his personal phone number 317-438-7137, explaining that it would be answered by another business name because he has a side business. He called back and gave me 3 options ranging from $2200-$3500. All I wanted was my car back at $395. No one ever said I was committing to the cost of repairs by agreeing to a thorough check. I asked why they hadn't just drained the transmission fluid and he said "we don't do that". WHAT? In my research I have since discovered that old transmission fluid has a burned smell and this should not be assumed to be a greater issue. At this point, feeling insulted and a bit uncomfortable, I turned the dealings over to my husband. Mark told him it would be $2500 PLUS the cost of oil and taxes. He also said he would give him 2 coupons for free services valued at $161 each. Although we would never use them, we would never give them to anyone else, it is interesting to note that they were not provided. From what I have since read, this appears to be common practice for this company. I read on BBB that another client was only charged $1900 for a rebuilt transmission. Buyer beware. Please heed everyone's warning. Edward doesn't own the business anymore, so don't bother calling his mother!! read more

Can't endorse this place. My car had little to no transmission fluid and the test driver kept hitting the accelerator hard trying to make it go. Not proper practice given it can cause damage to the transmission. read more

I would give no stars if I could. Stay away from Edwards on Southport! If you want to be swindled, overcharged, and have work done that you didn't need and be intimidated by the owner then by all means take your car there. I took my car there 2 months ago, still not fixed! Every time I take it back to them the car comes back to me in worse condition than when I dropped it off. A small leak becomes an enormous leak. The owner will be more than happy to yell at you, intimidate you and bully you because of his shops lousy repair practices. Took my truck into Edwards to get new Brake lines because my brake line busted. They couldnt find a Part for the truck, so i had to go fetch it myself and i found it within minutes online. So after a month of them having it and nothing done to it, i go them the Part to start working on. By this time im still being patient while my family member were not happy about it. Happy and excited to get it soon, they couldnt get the back brakes to bleed and hold on to it for another week and half before i decided to tell them just give it back. They said they were clueless at this point because the truck was so old and nobody makes the parts. I know a 1987 chevy truck is old but it still a common old truck. And other mechanics have looked at the work they done and said that i have been robbed out of 700 dollars. They wanted to charge me 1200 at first, but since i put in some work they took half off and i still think that was outrageous. So here i sit having to do the work that i payed this so called experience mechanics to do the work and they didnt do anything but run lines for 700 dollars. Parts only cost 80. read more
