We stopped in for a late lunch on a Monday afternoon & there were still quite a few people in the restaurant. Mexican music was playing in the dining room with only tables and padded chairs to sit at, no booths. There is a parking lot & an outdoor patio which could be great in warm weather. Note, they are closed on Tuesdays. We were seated right away & our server immediately brought over complimentary Tortilla Chips & Salsa. Both were good - the salsa was mild & the chips were good too but needed some salt. Service was okay, we did have to wait awhile to get our food after ordering & to get our check to pay. We ordered two combination meals. The first was two Cheese Enchiladas & one Beef Enchilada. The sauce on the enchiladas was great, very flavorful - nice & spicy and the cheese enchiladas were delicious with lots of cheese. We didn't care for the beef enchilada since it had shredded beef not ground beef. (We were expecting ground beef & didn't ask beforehand.) The other combo was a Cheese Enchilada, Chile Relleno & a Beef Taco. The Chile Relleno was very tender & cheesy. The Cheese Enchilada was good as in the other combo. The Beef Taco was disappointing as it had shredded beef & was soggy. We also had a side of rice & beans that lacked seasoning & was bland. Overall, big platters of food with wonderful cheese enchiladas & chile rellenos plus I always appreciate complimentary chips & salsa.

First time visiting this location big fans of the Boulder location as well. Both spots are very family oriented. We were greeted right when we walked in. Natalie took great care of us and made our visit great! Best Mexican food in Colorado! Highly recommend the chicken chimichanga and blue corn enchiladas. Don't miss the margaritas!

Cheese enchilada dinner was excellent. My 89 year old mom loved them, however did say the red sauce was spicy.

Fabulous dinner on the porch, tasty margaritas, quick & attentive service, excellent food (just wish they had ground beef, but that's just me). We had the crispy shredded beef tacos. Cheese enchiladas dinner, and vegetarian nachos. All arrived with a TON of food, great value for the buck & tasty entrees. We're one of those "transplants" from Texas & truly is as close to Tex-Mex that we've found. Jalapeño margarita really hit the spot & is definitely stronger than anticipated!

We heard good things about this place, and were a bit underwhelmed. The staff was friendly but service was rather slow. The food was decent. I liked the chips and salsa they serve complimentary. I ordered an enchilada and taco. The beef was really good, definitely recommend that meat option in your meals. It's shredded beef (instead of ground). However, the tacos came out pretty soggy and we had to eat them with a fork instead because they just fell apart.

I had not been to Efrain's in Lafayette for an extended period and sought it out before attending a Louisville Street Faire rainy night. Lafayette has a fun downtown area, plenty of options, parking, and safe surroundings. Luckily, they did not have a wait on a Friday night, snaring the lone available table after quickly getting a parking spot in their private lot. Efrain's always had a good neighborhood vibe, and this was no exception--average noise level. Excellent service from the onset, chips and their terrific red salsa on our table within minutes, and then a guacamole order to add to the appetizer! Our server was so pleasant and helpful and was kind throughout the visit. I ordered the Steak San Lorenzo, veering from my usual Mexican food choices, and I am glad I did. It was as delicious as I had hoped, craving a spicy dish with solid tastes. Perfectly cooked; I loved the veggies, and everything was yummy.

Came by for lunch. Efrains has a patio outdoors that was pretty full. The bar area has some large TVs with a crowd watching the game. Interior was large but most of the restaurant was sitting outside. The menu is large with the usual fare. They have some creative options like the Efrains burrito which seems like a wet burrito with the chef's choice of everything. Food was solid but pretty typical fare. Prices were pretty reasonable for the portion sizes. Queso came in a huge portion but was a little grainy. Service was very very friendly but a bit forgetful. We had a very nice waiter but things moved a little slow. Ample parking.

We had a groups of 13 including 3 littles and it was Friday night. I called and they were able to accommodate our group in their side room. We appreciated the space. Dinner was great. There were a couple glasses on the table that could have been cleaned much better. (Remnants stuck to the lip) Other than that everything was clean. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. We really liked the salsa.

My friend ordered an enchilada, and I ordered the carne asada. The place was half empty, so it was strange that our food took more than 30 minutes to arrive after we ordered. They had only a few servers working, and the fact that we only saw our waiter run by once or twice in that 30-minute wait for our food was not helpful. As time passed, I looked for wait staff to ask about my food, but I couldn't find any as none passed our way. The food was dropped at the table, and I got the impression that they were kitchen staff who dropped the plates and quickly ran off. My first impression of the food was shock, thinking, "They charge $25 for that tiny plate? You gotta be kidding me." The presentation was okay, but as you can see from the pic, the overpriced meal only covered a tiny portion of the undersized plate. It left a lot to be desired. Since our waiter was nowhere in sight, I had to go up to the bar to ask for salt. With my first bite, I found the potatoes cold, possibly because my food had been sitting around for quite some time. Sadly, after cutting into my supposed-to-be-medium-and-pink carne asada, it was cooked dry to shoe leather and inedible. It was disgusting. I grabbed a passing waiter and asked him to send my waiter over. He offered to help me, so I explained to him that this was disgusting and not what I ordered. He did offer to make me a new one, but after waiting 30+ minutes for my food and being served this, I lost my appetite. Yes, they took it off the bill, but still charged $3 for a Coke. Real classy. I enjoy fine dining and excellent cuisine, but to call this fine dining would be an insult to fine dining. Do better, Teocalli

At least on this day, at this time. Chad and I got to the restaurant around 1:15 PM yesterday. There weren't many people at the establishment, maybe one other party inside and one outside. We were greeted fairly quickly and were seated by a lovely woman. She was very helpful and answered all of our questions about the menu, and was quick to give recommendations. We started with chips and salsa, and I ordered a Skinny Margarita. Yes, it's a little out of the ordinary to charge for chips and salsa, but I thought both were amazing. The salsa was fresh and really tasty (and tasted nothing like ketchup, which I despise). I've had a lot of horrible salsas; this was not horrible at all, and neither were the chips, crunchy and delicious, imo. The skinny margarita, which was $14, was huge and actually worth the cost. The lovely waitress gave me the Happy Hour cost of the margarita ($10) since we were paying right about when HH started (2 PM). Chad noticed that they had a Cheese Crispi (or just Cheese Crisp as we AZ folks like to call it), but we were pretty hungry and really just wanted meals. I got the Vegetarian Burrito and asked that it be smothered with the sour cream cheese sauce that I saw on another vegetarian dish, the Chimichanga de Hongos. I'm sure I put on a few pounds from that sauce alone, and it was 100% worth it! The entire dish was SO GOOD! Chad got the Expresso Burrito and couldn't even finish the whole thing, not for want of trying, though. I don't know if we had the good luck to come at a good/slow time, and that's why we had such a wonderful experience, but I almost felt like I was at a totally different restaurant than the one being reviewed here. When we are in the area again, Chad and I will definitely be visiting Fuego Azteca again and trying out the Cheese Crispi and the Deep Fried Ice Cream!

They've made constant improvements to make the patio more attractive (they even added a covered area for cold or rainy days.) I figured they had to do something right to attract enough customers for their breakfast burritos in order to buy a truck. I am so glad I finally visited El Mercado to try their breakfast burrito. It was by far the best I've had for a very long time. I actually had given up finding a very good one in Colorado. I had the chorizo, and my husband the bacon one. That burrito was so moist it melted in my mouth, it was the perfect balance of cheese (lots of it I assume), chorizo and whatever else they put in it. A sign also says that they now offer breakfast burritos all day. Sitting at a table next to us was someone raving about his tamale (he told me they have added a new one to the menu and it is the best- $2 each, blue sign on the window).
