I've been in two or three times now for lunch and have enjoyed each visit thoroughly. Azteca is what many might consider run of the mill Mexican food, but the consistency in the meals and service is what I believe puts this little family restaurant a tier above the newer, flashy Wapos down the road. Downtown Erie is about a block and a half long in total, but street parking is pretty extensive. I'm new to the area, so I'm not sure what the dinner crowds look like downtown, but I would expect that parking doesn't become too big of a problem for the most part. Walking in, the restaurant is surprisingly large and boasts the authenticity in decor of many similar establishments. The dining area is clean, and the staff are attentive and charming. It is a pleasant place to walk into. Similar to many of my other reviews, I decided to grab a bite during the lunch hour. From what I've experienced, the lunch crowd is fairly scarce and there has not been a time where we've needed to wait for a table to become available. I would certainly like to stop by for dinner and plan to do so at some point; I'll update my take on that situation whenever it happens. The meat of the visit: 1) Great flavors and piping hot platters. In my opinion, Azteca does a good job of not making every part of the meal taste similar. I'm also a huge critic of the temperature of meals served at restaurants - hot = fresh! (Though I guess take that with a grain of salt because there are instances in which that isn't the case, I guess. 2) Big portions for a super reasonable price - even the lunch plates are almost too much to finish! 3) Friendly, attentive service. Nice people are nice, ya know? 4) Well spaced, clean dining area. Bathrooms are also clean which is a plus. Hate feeling like washing your hands makes you dirtier than when you walked in lol. I know I'll be back. I love Mexican food and I also love that I have some good options close to home.

Azteca burrito es muy bien, 'B+' grade

We had an enjoyable experience sitting outside, the weather was perfect at 5:30 on this Saturday night in late September. Service was fine, Severo S. was not overly chatty, but we were given good service. You will get the customary chip basket and salsa, which was tasty. Our table all reported enjoying their food, solid 'B' grades all around. I had the Azteca burrito with shredded beef. It was BIG, they call it the best burrito north of the Border! Flour tortilla filled with your choice of chicken, shredded beef or pork with rice, beans and our special burrito sauce with melted cheese. Topped with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, sour cream and guacamole. my wife had the Pollo (Shredded Chicken) tostada, a fresh, crispy corn tortilla shell covered with refried beans, shredded chicken, lettuce, cheese and a slice of tomato. My cousin had a taco, enchilada combo (standard), while her husband had the Chile Verde Pork, which was a healthy portion of chunks of pork in a light green Mexican "tomatillo" sauce. Served with warm flour tortillas. This might have been the meal of the night, although, I did like my burrito. The portions were large, and the food was all solid. They have very friendly pricing. At the conclusion of my meal and at the end of the night, my overall experience was 3.5 stars, but I can't round up, so I'm staying with 3 stars. If I lived in Erie, this spot would be on my regular restaurant rotation. If you have a hankering for Mexican food and adult beverages, Azteca Mexican Restaurant will confidently address your needs.

Nothing really special about this restaurant. The food is NOT AUTHENTIC. It is not made here it is only warmed up and served. The red chili sauce for the enchiladas tastes mass produced. The beans are rehydrated. The service was cold and unfriendly. The gentleman that seated us and took our order was not friendly he made our experience quite awkward. I wasn't sure if he was mad or just a introvert. Either way, with that attitude he shouldn't be greeting people. This man was the bartender, waiter and bus boy. Maybe he was stressed. Anyway, the Town of Erie deserves and needs a more authentic home style Mexican restaurant.

Can I have some food without that cup of grease that ruined the dish.

We got the Birdhouse Flight to start--guac, five-cheese queso, and their birdhouse salsa (a tasty, mild tomatillo). Seriously, it's the best way to start your meal. For dinner, we all had ramen. I went for the Hellfire with extra bok choy. This ramen is no joke. If you want something spicy, this is it. The chili sauce, flakes, and oil really bring the heat. The kids got the Tonkotsu, which was amazing as usual--great broth and super tender meat. I had my spicy ramen with a Juicy Bits from WeldWerks, perfect combo. Seriously, it's some of the best ramen and service around North Denver. Whether it's for a special day or just a chilly night. Birdhouse is always good. I totally recommend it!

So it was shocking that I found such a good bowl out here in Erie. I got the Hellfire Ramen, a tonkotsu-based ramen served with their house spicy sauce, chili oil, pork shoulder, and a soft boiled egg. The broth was rich and flavorful, the spice level was perfect (quiet hot but still maintaining a good balance of flavors), and the pork shoulder was tender but still has a bit of nice toothsomeness. Overall, this was an excellent bowl of ramen comparable to any of the top spots in Denver. The only slight downside is that the broth was just a tough too salty for my liking, and I would've preferred a soy marinated egg over a soft boiled egg. They have other ramen here was well, such as a chicken-based shio ramen, a regular tonkotsu, and a Thai curry ramen. I definitely would return to try the other ramen. If the other items on this menu is as tasty, I wouldn't hesitate to give them 5 stars.

Ours was about 45 minutes. They ended up seating us at a shared high-top table with another couple, which honestly wasn't a big deal. For appetizers, I ordered the shishito peppers with this orange marmalade-style dipping sauce, and WOW -- those were phenomenal. The peppers were fried perfectly with just the right crispiness and a little salt, and that sweet orange sauce paired with them so well. Definitely one of the best things we ordered. My friends also got queso, salsa, and ceviche. The ceviche was fresh and delicious, but the salsa was way too hot for me personally. I took one bite and couldn't handle another. For my entrée, I ordered the carne asada, and unfortunately it just was not what I expected. Instead of the thinner, flavorful steak I'm used to, it was a thick chunk of meat that was really chewy, fatty, and honestly lacked flavor. It just didn't work for me at all. The rice and beans were decent though, so no complaints there. The service was okay, but our server definitely seemed overwhelmed or maybe just uninterested. We often didn't see her for long stretches of time, so when she did come by, we had multiple things to ask for. It kind of felt like we were a burden anytime we needed something, which put a little damper on the experience. Overall, I'd probably give this place a 6/10. There were definitely some highlights, especially the appetizers and the atmosphere, and I'd still be willing to go back and try something different because I don't want one disappointing entrée to completely ruin the place for me.

When looking at the menu, the prices were outrageous, but thought the food must be really good! The restaurant doors were locked when we arrived around 11:30, even though their website said they opened at 10:00. I like to support local restaurants but this one was horribly disappointing! We were the only customers in the restaurant and service was extremely slow. There was only one employee we saw, the one who unlocked the door for us and turned out to be our waitress. She was polite, but very slow in getting our drink order, food order, and ticket. I could have understood understaffing, but as mentioned, we were the only customers in the place. When our food came, I was almost embarrassed for our waitress. The food hardly filled our plates. I ordered a chicken dish where the chicken breast had been split in half. It was tough and hard to cut and and chew. It was maybe the size of a small burger, very small and about 1/4 of an inch thick! According to the menu description, it was supposed to be marinated. It tasted like the "marinade" was ketchup mixed with a little Tabasco. Other plates were very skimpy on food. Burritos and enchiladas were small and almost almost laid flat on the plates. I guess I could deal with it better if the cost was about ¼ of the price we paid. No drinks for 4 totaled, with tip, around $80.00!! Will never go to this place again! I typically don't do reviews but this experience was completely "over the top" bad in all areas. We all left feeling cheated, and hungry! Don't waste your money here!
