I was having intermittent transmission issues on my 2017 GMC Sierra. Took it in to their Kaysville shop. A text later from Jared there said my complimentary inspection was done and to call. When I did I was told that it would cost $8500 to repair. I wasn't told that was the price of a new transmission or offered any alternative prices for a used or rebuilt tranny at that time. Called around and decided to take it elsewhere. Jared was suddenly offering me cheaper alternatives including a used and rebuilt tranny. When I declined, he sent me a receipt for over $100 for the previously described "complimentary" inspection. These guys are all Shysters dressed well in matching uniforms in a nice and clean facility, but they are all dishonest and untrustworthy Shysters just the same. I'd recommend Lodders Auto in Bountiful Utah, if you want to deal with honest mechanics that won't try to take advantage of elderly or female customers or patrons. read more

Advertised could work on Saabs...not so. Their OBD computer would not read...my saab guy said not your fuel pump an ignition short. Told them to forget the emmissions, alignment and tire rotation. Nothing but excuses. The car sat from 10 am till the nex day. Emmissions...he is at lunch now. Do not, do not take your Saab or any other car there. !! .DON'T BOTHER SCHEDULING AN APPOINTMENT. !! I made an appointment for an oil change and to have a light looked at a week in advance because my schedule is pretty tight. After showing up for my 5:00 pm appointment I was told, "We can't get to it today, we got pretty slammed." Then why have an appointment scheduling service?? I took my car in thinking it was going to cost me a bunch of work to replace my alternator AGAIN because I thought it was faulty after I had tried to replace it myself. I showed up toward the end of the day, even had the pleasure of getting to know the staff and owner for about 30 minutes, and after talking with them for a bit they asked if I'd be willing to take a loaner car for the night and just come in the following day once they called me and said it was ready. I took them up on the offer and that's not even the best part, when they called me the following day, they said NO CHARGE....thought what in the world. So when I showed up to pickup my car they said it was simply a bad connection on the battery making the alternator appear faulty and all they had to do was tighten some stuff down and it was running like a champ. I offered to pay something/anything because of their generosity but in the end, they took nothing and expected nothing in return. The people here are kind and honest. They did a good job fixing my car, and did it for a very reasonable price. My complaint is that they never called us back when they said they would. We had to keep calling for updates and I wish they would've kept us informed on their own. If I could leave zero stars I would! I paid 2,000 to repair the AC only to pick it up with a broken screen. And then was accused of punching the screen on my 1 mile drive home. We've spent thousands of dollars at this place over the years with all of our cars and will never go back. they want 1000$ to fix what they broke and it feels so dishonest. I've used Egan for a number of years but I think it's time I look someplace else. First the good: They are usually pretty good mechanics. They generally get your vehicle fixed correctly, and I have not observed any instance when they tried to do work that wasn't actually needed or anything like that. The bad: I actually have just one gripe. They gouge their customers on the parts. They have been doing this for many years. In the beginning it was maybe 50% more. A repair I had done last year was closer to 2x. My repair today was somewhere between 2.5x and 3.5x -- depending on if they put the least expensive parts available or the most expensive parts (and we all know what got put in). A whopping $300-$550 in extra "parts cost" is kind of a big deal, and it's not like it's covering up labor. There was $480 in labor on that job -- including a record high $116.05 for a diagnosis fee. You used to be able to get around this problem by supplying your own parts, but when I was there I noticed a new sign that said they would not accept customer supplied parts due to "liability reasons". How, I wonder, do the other mechanics not have this same issue? Getting out the door with a $1,250 bill when it should have been closer to $550 means I'll be looking elsewhere. Edit: They did misdiagnose a problem with the Stage 2 O2 sensor and replaced the Stage 1 O2 instead. This was pretty strange as I knew the Stage 2 O2 was the problem, told them such, and the error code on the computer also indicated such. Also note - This review had been misplaced on another shop for the past little while and was moved here. The service was done approximately 8-12 months ago. read more

Have been here a few times. The time to complete work is fast. They provide a digital inspection with pictures and recommendations which is nice. This place is very expensive! Almost on par with dealership prices. Be careful what you ask them to look at, you'll get excessive diagnostic fees. I was charged $84 to look at a tail light that was out. They charge "shop supply" fees for towels, cleaners and other items like paper floor mats that they use during repair. That's like if a restaurant charged you for napkins with your order. They didn't reset the oil change light after an oil change, which I did reset myself, its just a small detail that shouldn't be missed by professionals. The other repairs that were done seem to be done correctly, I haven't had any issues with the work. They workers and receptionist are friendly. read more

I took my GMC truck in to have the brakes replaced. I explicitly told them to replace all 4 brakes and rotors.. (This was a recommendation from a "free" inspection a few months earlier by Egans). When I returned to pick up my truck, the work had not been finished. I was told to come back the next morning before noon and it would be done. Got there next morning and was told the work wouldn't be done til afternoon. The biggest screw up was when I did pick up the truck, I'm going the price is way lower than what they told me (that never happens at a mechanic shop!) Looking closer, they replaced the 2 rear brakes, but stated the front had another 5,000 miles before they needed to be changed. Are you kidding me? Front brakes usually go out first and 5,000 miles is nothing. The thing that angers me the most is I SPECIFICALLY ASKED for all 4 to be replaced. Wow poor mechanic's recommendation. Thanks for the 2 over priced brakes plus diagnostic fee (? for brake pads and rotor?) Next 2 will NOT be by Egan. Can't trust mechanic's judgement, didn't do what I asked, took an extra day to complete the job. read more

A couple weeks ago, I noticed my 2017 Ford Flex needed air in the tires CONSTANTLY. On this particular day, I dropped my daughter off at daycare as usual and noticed my front passenger tire was COMPLETELY FLAT and I still had to get to class at Weber State in Ogden, ugh! I had been looking at Egan Automotive for the past year or so since it's on the way to my daughter's daycare and noticed a ton of really nice restored older cars and a few "everyday cars" in the parking lot. I come from a family of mechanics and automotive body work, so I have REALLY wanted to check it out. Having a flat tire gave me the perfect opportunity! I pulled into the small driveway and went inside. I have to admit, I was a little panicked because I was running late and really worried I'd have to give up my first born to pay for whatever was wrong with my car! The lady at the front desk greeted me in a very warm and professional tone and as I shared my issue, she called the mechanic in immediately. The mechanic came right in and didn't seem phased at all (clearly he already knew what was wrong) but was very warm and professional and got my car in immediately! About 5 seconds after jacking my car up, the mechanic came in with the nail that had been torturing my tire -- I KNEW IT!! The mechanic patched it up in 5 minutes and backed my car out of the garage, easy peasy! I paid all $10.68 with my Samsung Pay (phone app) and was on my way! Thank yall SO MUCH!! I'm SO GLAD I didnt have to refinance my house to fix my car because let's be real - repairs these days are WAY OVERPRICED, including tire patches! Please please do not go here! Twice I have been quoted EXTREMELY high amounts to have vehicles fixed. They overcharge for labor. The parts they use are twice as expensive as O Reilly Auto Parts AND they tack on extra charges and parts that are not needed for what needs to be fixed. For example. I bring in my 99 f350 with a fuel leak. I knew what was wrong but I didn't want to have to do it myself outside in the cold. I was quoted 600 dollars, 6 parts, and 3.5 hours of labor. I went and bought the part for 42.99 and put it in an hour later. What was originally on my quote was 5 parts I didn't need and 2 services that were "required". When asked about the extra charges he tried to bullshit me and say that's what it takes to fix it. What bothers me most about this is that someone who may go in and not know much about cars and is desperate to get it running again, these crooks take full advantage of that and the customer is none the wiser. If an expert tells you this is what needs fixed you listen right? Please don't go here. I needed a new thermostat on my car as being cold while driving was getting tiresome. I took it in and was treated well. My information was taken and I was given an estimated timeframe when it would be ready. I got a call within that time frame letting me know my car was ready. No more cold winter driving for me! My wife took our mini-van in because of an oil leak. At other shops she has always felt like she was being talked down to because she is a woman and just doesn't understand cars (which is true). At Egan, Tony took her under the lift and showed her what was going on and explained it well. I wish I had read the reviews BEFORE I went to EGAN. It was a BIG! BIG! BIG! mistake. I am a car guy, I own eight cars including five classics. I am familiar with what is a fair and reasonable garage, Egan is neither fair or reasonable. The WORST I've seen in Utah. I took my 1933 Plymouth to Egan for some engine work. Estimated at $500. I returned the car back twice, it was over a year when I got it back. They took over $4500 from me before I could finally get it home. Most of the billings were for OUTRAGEOUS LABOR CHARGES. Shane Egan is a wealthly man who seems to have such a love of money and profit that he cannot deal honestly with customers. He will take every dollar he can from you. When I got my car back IT HAD: Bad brakes, Broken window, Missing engine parts, Missing 33 repair manual, headlights didn't work. They broke the rare HOOD ORNAMENT. Shane REFUSED to replace it because it was too expensive. ( I should buy it?? they broke it! ) He said he couldn't be responsible IF someone climbed over the fence broke my hood ornament and left. How is that for LIES and DISHONESTY?? These reviews are a warning for your benefit. If you read them and still trust EGAN, you are really stupid. EGAN CAN NOT BE TRUSTED! I dropped off my vehicle for a belt change and a lube, oil, and filter. I was greeted by Daniel, who couldn't be more polite and competent. Needless to say, we did run into a complication with the LOF, but between Daniel and Shane Egan himself, I couldn't be more impressed with their professionalism regarding how that addressed the issue and managed it to resolution. I can't overstate how helpful the folks at Egan were. I stopped by yesterday afternoon, 5 hours into a 6 hour drive, with a weird noise in my wheel well that was making me extremely nervous. Within 5 minutes, I had been greeted, explained my problem, and we were on the road testing out my vehicle for the sound I had heard. The man who helped me, I think his name was Jon, was polite, friendly, eager to explain the problems with my car, and utterly trustworthy. Based on his assessment, I decided to chance driving my car home (luckily, I made it!) and he wouldn't accept a penny for the help he provided. Warning, do no go to this shop. They jerk you around on the price and then they add 100% upcharge on the cost of the parts for the repair. I had a clutch slave and bearing that were making noise and so I took my truck to this place. First they jerked me around on the price saying that one part or another had to be changed. Further, I took my truck in on Monday, told them I needed the truck by Friday and they did not even start to work on it until Friday. I was going to have them do other work, but now I will never ever take any vehicle to them. I checked out the prices for the parts and they up charged me 100% of the cost of the parts. A part that cost $80, I was charged $180, etc. And now, even after the repair, the throw out bearing is still making a little noise when I press in the clutch. Exactly what I took the truck in for and the clutch is super soft. They probably put in a weaker worthless clutch. read more

Took a my truck in for an alignment after leveling the front end. At that time they said their equipment didn't have the right program for my truck, the truck was a new model. They sent it out to Les Schwab to have it done. They charged me about $100 for the alignment. The price was what they had quoted me when I first went in. A few months later I had to have the alignment done again after hitting something on I84. Rather than go back to Egan I went directly to Les Schwab. For the same job I was charged $59. So apparently Egan charged me $40 to drive my truck a mile up the road to Les Schwab. I've also tried to use their online scheduling to set up appointments for inspections. I've never received a call back or any acknowledgement that I've tried to make an appointment. I used to go there for inspections but have started using another shop and found that they are much faster and easier to deal with. read more

First time they had my truck they said it had a bad cam shaft position sensor replaced that picked up my truck broken down on way home. Took it back they had it two weeks and said they could not find anything wrong, truck still will not run for more the fifteen miles. They claimed they drove it for two hours total time with no issues. read more

I've used Egan Automotive for years. I have always appreciated their honesty and willingness to take care of my cars. My cars have always been ready when I was told that they would be ready. The price was always what I was quoted unless I opted for more work to be done. i was always notified if there was additional work needed to be done. They consulted with me as to the ramifications of putting off repairs. Often they would recommend that we wait for the repairs and just keep an "eye" on the potential problem. I appreciate their honesty. A few years ago we needed a new engine for my wife's Mazda 626. Egan put in a new engine at a great price. The car ran like new for several years. The car ran so well that it was passed down to my college daughter. read more

I got new pads and rotors in June 2017. I took the car back in Dec. because the problems had returned, lots of noise and vibration. I was told that it was likely my tires, that the tech couldn't hear or feel anything abnormal. I insisted the problem could not have been my tires so they turned the rotors and cleaned things up. However, the problem returned after a few months. I'm guessing the parts were not as premium as they claimed they were. Now I'm going to take the car in again to get things fixed. However, I won't be going back to Egan's. After several years with them, I'm moving on. I've noticed a drop in quality and an increase in prices over the past few years. There also seems to be a strong tendency to explain why my issues are not real or not their fault. read more

I went to Egan Automotive for a pre-purchase inspection to be done on the car I was buying. The only thing they found was that it was due for an oil change. After I bought the car and was getting the oil change, the shop notified me that there was a chunk missing from the inside firewall of the front driver side tire, my air filters were filthy, the fans of the A/C were about to go out and that my serpentine belt was beat up and ready to be replaced. So Eagan's auto totally stole $50 of my money and let me purchase a car without the full information because of their laziness. 0/10. read more

After quoting me an amount and saying what work needed to be done, they did additional work that was not related to the original issue and charged over 3 times the original quote. Bought a car summer of 2014 and took it in to them for safety and emissions. It passed everything except for it needed a battery tie-down. The employee said they could take care of it for only $15, so I said go for it. I never thought much about it, until November of that year, I was detailing my car and when I popped the hood to clean up in there, I found a melted zip tie hanging from my battery. $15 zip tie??? Could have done that myself. The part that really frustrated me was when I returned the next summer for safety and emissions again, deciding to give them another chance. As I expected would happen, my car failed because it didn't have a battery tie down. This time they quoted me domething around $75. My first thought was that they are either using 5 zip ties now, or they are going to actually do it right this time. I explained to the bald manager (I don't recall his name) that I was ok with the $75, but I wanted to make it sure it was done right this time. I explained what had happened the previous year, and he laughed at me. Without even giving me a chance, he denied that it ever could have happened, and said they had no record of it. Though he couldn't explain how I had somehow managed to pass safety last year, but failed again this year. I'm sure it had probably just been a crooked employee of theirs last year, and not his personal fault, but he was rude and inconsiderate, even when I wasn't even asking for a refund. Been here several times, but two major repairs come to mind, my 55 chev and my 74 vette. Both had engine and tranny R2, engine cleaned, resealed and painted. Both cost alot and look GREAT, but they stored the 55s tranny and accessories in its trunk, ruined the trunk mat, spilling oil all over the trunk, and the vette's vacuum headinghts don't come up (vacuum leak?), the backup lights don't come on, there's grease on the carpet and body. Big things = great. Details = FAIL. (when you R2 a tranny, check the backup lights and the speedo as well as the shifter) Regular jobs they do alright, parts are high quality NAPA, more expensive than autozone or oriely, this is normal shop practice as they don't want to invest the labor twice if the part fails. They charge about normal labor rates, it's not cheap to hire and pay employees and their overhead. I'm not sure this is "my mechanic", we'll have to see how they do later jobs. Oh, the vette had its vacuum lines misrouted, and some lines open, which is why the headlights would not come up. Ten seconds on Google and I found the proper routing. As I reinstalled the air cleaner, I noticed the gasket between the carb and the air cleaner is missing, and the pcv breather filter is missing as well. Fifteen bucks at Ecklers. I cannot tell you how many times I have called Shane and said,"I have a problem with my car." Each and every time, he was able to pinpoint the issue and fix my car. They have taken care of many of my family auto issues from Safety checks to putting a new engine in one of my vehicles. They charge fair rates, and do fine work.
