I came here for a sister date on the first sundress-appropriate day of the year. I followed the advice of fellow Yelpers and called ahead to get my name on the wait list. It was perfect timing; we were seated right away. The space was smaller than I expected from seeing the exterior. However, the smaller space made it feel all the more cozy; the decor (and aroma of breakfast!) definitely added to that as well. I was a little concerned at first because the hostess looked bored and sad when she led us to our table, but our server, Sarah, was very friendly, answered all my questions, and promptly brought a carafe of Intelligentsia coffee to our table (as well as a to-go cup on our way out!). I ordered the banana bread french toast which was divine, although larger portions would be warmly welcomed, and my sister got the skillet with 284562 types of meat (because she's a growing girl with the fastest metabolism in the world) which tasted like a delicious heart attack, especially with hot sauce. We shared our food with each other and left perfectly satisfied with just enough room for a sweet treat. And the best thing about brunch is that you get the deliciousness of breakfast without the grogginess and stress of preparing and eating at 7am before having a full schedule waiting for you :) read more

After reading bunches of Yelp reviews, I chose this place as my breakfast destination, and I couldn't have been happier. I ordered the farmers market benedict, and it was as terrific as I always wish benedicts at other restaurants were, but never are. You know the Original Pancake House? This place is what I wish OPH was. The coffee is delicious Intelligencia, and they offered to send some with us to go at the end of our meal--how cool is that?! Our server, Tammy, was delightful and accurate, even though we arrived close to closing time (and I'm assuming she'd been on all day, but I don't know this for sure). The food came out quickly, which I especially appreciated after waiting until 1:00 to go out to breakfast (and then waiting 30 minutes for a table). When I find myself in Naperville, IL this is the place I love to go for a gourmet brunch. Sure, parking can be a challenge and you rarely get seated immediately, but they provide pagers so you are free hang outside, peruse the nearby boutiques, or enjoy some free coffee as you wait. Be warned though, if you wait inside the aroma of their popular dishes shamelessly flirting with your nose is going to make you absolutely ravenous by the time you get seated. They offer unique seasonal dishes, such as Pumpkin Pancakes with sugared pecans and cinnamon butter, which make narrowing your options seem an impossible feat. It all sounds, smells, looks so good. Last time I was there they had Lemon French Toast with a berry sauce on the menu (basically a glazed lemon pound cake, dipped in egg, and fried up like french toast) which was more of a sinful dessert than breakfast. (Say a few Hail Mary's, run a few laps on the Riverwalk and you're good to go). I have a tendency to lean towards the 'Eggceptional Skillets' (house potatoes, cheese, eggs and fixings of your choice), my favorite being the spinach & mushroom. If you prefer lunch, they offer gourmet burgers, sandwiches, and salads, but you should have breakfast there at least once as it's what they are best at! Before the calorie counters cross Egg Harbor off their list -- you can have fun walking it all off shopping the area or by cruising the nearby riverwalk :) You won't be sorry. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to Egg Harbor (I've been on a Butterfield's kick for some time now) and I remember now why: it's just OK. Yes, the wait staff is super-nice and usually attentive (there's one server who runs hot and cold with attending to her tables) and the selections are varied and tempting but there are little things that keep it from being a really great place. 1. They season nothing. I had the Georgia cheese grits and two eggs over easy. I don't mind salting/peppering my eggs, but if there's one thing grits need when cooking is a pinch of salt. They don't add anything and the flavor is one dimensional. 2. What oil do they use??? I've had the fried green tomatoes Benedict before and my sister had the Bavarian Benedict this trip and in both instances the fried food had a strange old oil taste. If you're going to feature fried elements that are key components to their respective dishes, use fresh oil! 3. Their "healthy" options are one-note. The savory choices are all the same thing: a combination of red and green peppers, mushrooms, onions, low-fat mozzarella and turkey sausage. Whether it's the frittata, omelet, scramble... always the same. How about some broccoli or some spinach? How about some light cheddar? Things they do well: Great coffee, giving you the option of a mild, bold or flavored version. The eggs are always cooked spot-on. Portions are generous. The Popeye Crepes. Try them. You'll love them. They serve red velvet french toast. YES. Red velvet cake. Haven't tried them but they get major points for something so outrageous. For those who want to visit on the weekends: they open at 6:30 AM - arrive anytime before 8:30 AM and you shouldn't have a wait. One last thing: They offer an English muffin with many dishes. Egg Harbor might be my favorite breakfast restaurant in the Naperville area. Compared to others even remotely nearby I've had better experiences here. The employees are friendly, the atmosphere is nice, and the food is phenomenal! I think I've been here enough to have a favorite now: the Georgia cheese grits & eggs with whatever flavored iced tea they're featuring. So delicious! I love that on hot summer days they'll give you an iced tea refill to go. The strawberry orange juice is also amazing, but I drink it way too fast and the refills aren't free on that. Prices are reasonable, wait times aren't too horrible since they turn tables pretty quickly, and the staff are all friendly. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars from me is that if you have to get up and use the restroom (which is in the hall by the other stores) you will almost get knocked over by at least 3-4 different employees who are running around without looking up. I completely understand that it gets busy on weekends and that they are trying to serve quickly and get tables turned quickly, but that was a definitely down-side to the overall experience. read more

Country bumpkins rejoice! It's like a farmhouse of roosters exploded in here. Ceramic roosters on display. Rooster napkin holders. Rooster art. You name anything rooster and they've got it. Rooster knick knacks aside, service here is the friendliest you'll come by. We had to turn our server away a couple times because of the loads and loads of choices for breakfast. Savory? Sweet? Both? Finally decided on the Caps Frittata ($7.95), 3 baked eggs complete with crispy bacon (it's not breakfast without it), spinach, mushroom caps, and melted jack & cheddar cheese. Portions here are definitely made for sharing! We also ordered a side of corned beef & hash ($7.25), which is not uncommon for us. Our waitress asked us if we wanted it well done. That was first! Egg Harbor is usually a great place to go for a meal with family, leaving everyone satisfied. Today, my in-laws were in town to celebrate my wife's graduation; and we all went out to lunch today to celebrate Mother's Day before we would part ways and my in-laws return home. But, the experience for us at Egg Harbor today was horrible for various reasons: 1.     The wait was over an hour, a bit longer than the estimate given. 2.     Second, there was not enough silverware and cups placed for the six family members. 3.     Third, not only was there residual food marks on some of the plates (you know, those white glass instruments that restaurants put food on to serve their customers. Forgive me, Yelp reader, if I insult your intelligence with such a statement; I may have mistakenly found it necessary to give a reminder of what a plate is because of the amnesia incurred because Egg Harbor took soo looonngg to actually bring our plates of food out. If there is any offense, Yelp reader, please credit it all to Egg Harbor), but there was residual food on some of the cups as well. 4.     Fourth--It needs its own bullet point--the wait to actually get our food was sooooo loooonggg. It took an hour. 5.     Fifth, after the soooo looonngggg wait for our food that may have caused amnesia on "what is dishware," the food (eggs, hasbrowns, etc.) was cold! 6.     Finally, probably the worst thing about Egg Harbor's service was that they did not take the initiative to offer a discount. Only after my father-in-law asked for a discount did they offer a 10% discount, for service that could not be justified as being even average. I was thinking at least a 30-50% discount would have been more appropriate. I will only give one caveat: This extremely poor service may have been due to the busyness of Mother's Day. There were a lot of people there. But, I think it was certainly still Egg Harbor's fault in taking too many customers and offering horrible service to at least our table (and I would not be surprised if this was the case for many other tables; the manager said that the cook was quite backed up on tables). So, in conclusion: at the very least, do NOT go to the Naperville, IL Egg Harbor location on Mother's Day and other holidays. Maybe they are better on less busy days, but I have no reason to have any hope in this. I would suggest going to another Egg Harbor location like Wheaton, IL (where I have had only good experiences), or just find another brunch place near Naperville. Thanks for listening, Yelp reader. Egg harbor cafe in downtown Naperville is my family's favorite place for breakfast. We have been coming here for 4 years now almost every other Saturday. The service is fast once you are seated, the waiters are very pleasant and aim to please. I'm a tough critic when it comes to diners that specialize in breakfast. I find that far too many confuse portion size with quality. This is the only restaurant where I will order pancakes, which are delicious. They always have interesting specials which tempt me, such as different types of French toast. Being new to Chicagoland, I decided to spend a couple of days exploring the food scene, and was willing to go to the suburbs to do so--and find parking. Egg Harbor did not disappoint! If you're a fan of IHOP restaurants but hate corporate dining, you'll enjoy Egg Harbor for having a plethora of breakfast and brunch options but half the price of going to IHOP. The coffee was good, a local brew. Delicious! I had the gluten-free pancakes. The "shorter stack" was three large pancakes! Wowsers! It also came with four links and two eggs any style. Plus endless coffee and a pitcher of lemon-infused water, and my meal came to under $15 including tax. Great deal! Before I left, the server offered me a complementary cup of coffee to-go. Following both the positive and the negative hype and hysteria about Egg Harbor, I wanted to give it an honest go. One of my fiance's relatives is a regular here, almost "Cheers"-esque, so while the future family-in-law were in town, we all stopped by here for a little breakfast. And while my breakfast standards are set by Walker Brothers, this place was nowhere near competition. The restaurant itself is cramped and filled to the brim with kitschy items that remind me of any and all American restaurants (Chili's, Cracker Barrel, Friday's, Red Robin, etc.). While the menu is expansive, I took a Yelp recommendation for an omelet. The omelet was fine, under seasoned, but fulfilled my omelet criterion. Eggs, veggies, meat. That is----- until I found a HAIR. Not just any hair, but a long gray, scraggly hair. I was only a quarter or the way into it, but had to stop. By this point, I had already consumed some of the egg that had congealed around that scraggly hair, and I almost started gagging. When I quietly brought it to the waitresses attention, she immediately asked "Are you sure it's not yours?". I said "No, it's long, gray, scraggly, and really, really in there." She looked at it again and said "Oh yeah, it really is in there". It was sticking out of the middle of the omelet like a bridge hanging off of an island. No apology. No attempt to fix it. It wasn't even taken off of the bill. Just because I don't cause a loud, outrageous scene, does not mean that you shouldn't be apologetic or try to fix it. If this is how they handle these matters, than I think I understand their business practices. I will not be returning. I mean, seriously. I assume that people find comfort in food like this. I mean, I would have MUCH rather eat at a restaurant for a Saturday lunch in Naperville that wasn't a chain (kind of hard to find) or at least one with less predictable food. Anyway, my friend insisted we go here. It's us, my other friend (pregnant and with her 1 1/2 year old child) and we're told the wait is 25 minutes. After 45 minutes we finally sat down. Food was OK. Nothing great, nothing terrible. The tuna was very watery, and the salad dressing was too sweet, but the waitress was nice and very attentive. I have been on a biscuits and gravy kick for the past three weeks. We have been searching for a local breakast spot that could bring the goods. We tried the Crispy Waffle, Cracker Barrel, and so on. Then this week, a Monday morning, we found ourselfs in Naperville. a quick Yelp search pointed us to Egg Harbor. After a quick 5 minute wait we were seated. My wife loves Egg Harbor Cafe in Glenview. We were in the area and decided to stop here since we were hungry. How different can it be from the one we frequent in Glenview? Well for starters, the service was great! Taki, the manager, makes sure all the customers and his employees are well taken care of. As we waited for our table and observed the daily functions of the restaurant, the vibe I got was this was a fun and respectful place to work. This usually comes from good management. As for the food, my wife did her usual gluten free breakfast, but I decided to venture into the unknown and try something from the lunch menu. California Tuna Melt sounded delicious, but personally the tuna was a little runny. I finished it though and savored every bite. Egg Habor Cafe has been one of my favorite local restaurants for breakfast for a long time. Since I moved out of state I hadn't been back in a long time. They've recently renovated the inside of this location and it's so nice. It's much larger and they even added some outdoor seating. I usually love either their cinnamon roll French toast or their pancakes, but this time I got a skillet. You can make your own which I like, so you can add whatever you want. It was delicious! The jam they bring you for the bread is also awesome - I think it's homemade. I've never been disappointed with my selection here. Wow, I had forgotten that I had eaten here while in Naperville on a little vacay! I LOVE breakfast food at any hour of the day so of course I had to try Egg Harbor Cafe when we drove by it one day. We walked in and it looked exactly how a cafe on a harbor would look like! What I loved the most is their little vases of flowers that they had sitting at the tables. I thought they were so adorable! Anyway, I ordered what I usually order at a breakfast place. Eggs with sausage and toast and a glass of orange juice. It was really good! Deep down I really want to give this a higher rating, but I can't after the experiences I've had here. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious and the environment makes me feel like I'm on vacation in Door County, Wi. But the service could be better. I typically go here for brunch when home visiting with friends and family simply because I love their chicken salad. Egg Harbor Cafe is my wife's and my favorite breakfast spot. My wife is very picky about her pancakes. At most restaurants, when she orders pancakes, she leaves feeling like she's got a lead weight in her stomach. However, she loves the pancakes here. She orders the combo with whatever pancakes she has a craving for that day, two eggs and choice of meat. I almost always go with one of the Benedicts. I particularly like the Farmer's Market Benedict, but I think I've tried them all. We both love their harbor potatoes. I've also had the Summer in Italy French Toast (with mascarpone cheese). However, The individuals working the front are very slow and don't seem to take anything too seriously. I love the food but know that when I place a to-go order, I'll get hung up on at least once and/or have to spend 20 min waiting to check out. She greeted us with a smile, let us know about the special that day, took any substitutions to our meals without any grief, and she also brought me another cup of coffee without any fuss when I added too much sugar to the first.
