Bottom Line: Family run, good food, pleasant experience, overall decent value. First time here. This Greek family-run diner/restaurant is not much to look at from the outside. You could drive right by thinking it was a vacant building except for all the cars in the lot. The notion of vacant building is dispelled immediately upon entry. The place is busy, loud, vibrant with customers clearly enjoying the food and experience. The interior is decorated simply, with muted colors, is well lit, and clean. There are a lot of hard surfaces which makes the ambient noise level fairly high; however, it did not detract from the experience (but just be advised in case you feel this is bothersome). We were greeted warmly and though the place was packed, we were seated quickly. Despite the diner-like vibe, there is no counter, just tables and booths. Our server was prompt, very pleasant, and efficient. The coffee was hot and flavorful. The food: Large portions, well prepared, warm, savory, satisfying. The loaded Cheers omelette, with hash browns and pancakes, was more food than I could enjoy in one sitting so I have leftovers for tomorrow. I ordered them over potato cakes and sausage... the sausage was so very bland, the eggs were hard poached and the hollandaise was way too thick and bland... As much as I hate to send something back to the kitchen I did just to get soft poached eggs... but as usual I lost my appetite and although they corrected the eggs that dog didn't hunt. Number one is service and pride of ownership. The owner was kind, accessible and hardworking. She graciously seated us and later stopped by to make sure we were satisfied (WE WERE GREATLY). She even spoke Polish to my husband! We had simple eggs with well done sausage for me and delicious corned beef hash for my husband. We came on a Saturday at 10 am to meet old friends. It is crazy how busy the place was, which made the noise level rambunctious and service slow because of a busy kitchen. Still we enjoyed the place very much. In our party we had both breakfast and lunch food. We enjoyed the special Eggs Benedict, Apple Waffle, a salad and a quesadilla. And while the food was quite good, it wasn't particularly exceptional. Prices, however, are exceptional given the pleasant but ordinary ambience of the dining room and reasonable but unremarkable portion sizes. In summary, I would say the place is better than a chain restaurant or average diner but just slightly overrated by some folks on Yelp. This is a family owned biz and has super casual vibes, perfect for a weekend brunch with friends or family. We got the El Mariachi skillet which comes with eggs, hash browns, bacon, avocado, jalapeno, and melted cheese. It also comes with either toast or 2 large pancakes on the side. We got pancakes with chocolate chips on the side. All of this was perfect for 2 of us to share! The skillet was so delicious - it was so crispy from the hash browns, had the perfect gooeyness from the sunny side up eggs, and the toppings added texture and flavor which made it a solid skillet. I do wish they offered potato tots in the skillet instead of hash browns (this is also me being picky). Regardless of that, this was a 10/10 skillet. The pancakes were so so good. The chocolate chips were not too overwhelming, the pancake itself was super fluffy and light, and the syrup was warm and wholesome. It was seriously the perfect combination of sweet pancakes and savory skillet, which is all we wanted on this day! The service is SO fast by the way! We went on Saturday morning around 11am and the place was pretty packed, but we were able to get seated, order, eat, pay, and leave in less than 30 minutes!!! So so efficient without any lack in quality or taste! This is definitely a hidden gem and I can't wait to go back for more. Potentially my favorite breakfast restaurant I've ever been to... that is saying a lot. I've been to many many places in my lifetime and this is for sure in the top running of the best 3 breakfast restaurants. There was not one bad thing. Service, quality of food, vibes, staff, and my family having a great time. I don't see how it could have gone any better. (Maybe less baby's crying in the background haha but that has nothing to do with the restaurant/is uncontrollable). Our group literally drove 1 hour away just to give this place a try, that's how good it was and I do not regret it one bit. The sad part is, I recently moved so now I'm 1.5 hours away and I wished I lived closer because I would be here every weekend. My husband had the breakfast tacos and I thought those were just okay and could have been better. The 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy was huge. What was super good was the baked apple pancake that took forever to make. Came here on a Sunday for brunch, and the wait was pretty short for the day and time we got there. It is a small diner style breakfast and lunch establishment. I ordered the Boodock Skillet, which has corned beef, onions, and peppers. The highlight of this dish was the corned beef, which gave it all of its flavor. I was kinda disappointed by the lack of any other flavor, especially since there wasn't enough corned beef to carry the dish. Maybe more corned beef should be added or some other kind of seasoning to really make the dish worth getting again. The biscuit and gravy came out rather warm instead of hot. The flavor was better than a lot of other biscuit and gravy dishes around Illinois. I just wish that it was hotter and the sausage flavor was stronger in the sausage gravy. For me, the company French toast dish saved the meal and brought it to a four star rating. To add to this, we only got a half order of them, and it was in different toast and still delicious. The cream cheese and apples on this dish were very favorable and complimentary to each other on the dish. I would have given only a three star, but the French toast and service definitely earned the fourth. Overall, give this place a shot and try some of the other dishes. read more
