I was honestly extremely disappointed with my experience here. The biggest issue was the service. There was literally a hair in my fruit, and when I pointed it out, our server didn't apologize or acknowledge it at all. He just stood there until I specifically asked for a replacement. I found his behavior throughout the entire meal extremely rude and off putting. On top of that, it was incredibly stuffy inside the restaurant. As for the food, it was just alright. I honestly don't see myself coming back, especially because of the rude server.
Came back again and still enjoyed the food and overall experience. Service remains friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere is bright and welcoming. One thing I wanted to mention this time around; the chairs can be pretty loud when people move them across the concrete floors. It gets a bit irritating on the ears, especially during busy times. Adding cushions or pads underneath the chairs would probably make a big difference and help reduce the noise. Overall, still a solid spot that I'd return to, just hoping for a small fix to make the dining experience even better.
After running a race, the natural next step is brunch. My girlfriend has been raving about how much she liked Egg Harbor so naturally I had to give a try. On a cold day, the gourmet hot chocolate was a great starter for me and really set the tone for my meal. I ended up getting a skillet with all sorts of fixings that had me very full. The English muffin on the side was delicious and the jam was fantastic. Bonus points for their gluten-free menu. They have so many options and take great precautions to ensure that gluten-free customers can dine comfortably.
This breakfast spot was great. Hit the spot after a long flight. We couldn't find it initially but if you get to the whole food you gotta take exterior street stairs to the upper street level to find this gem. Service was super friendly and fast. Food tasted fresh and came out hot. I recommend leaving your hotel lobby restaurant and try this spot. Easy walk to Navy Pier from here. I recommend you try it.
First time at Egg Harbor Cafe and our last stop before heading home. This is definitely one of our favorite places we ate. We will definitely be coming back. We enjoyed brunch with delicious dishes. We ordered a Matcha Latte, a Chai Tea Latte, a Latte and Coffee. All the drinks were served hot, not too sweet, just perfect in a cloudy snowy day. For our main dish we ordered a California Club, a Smoked Salmon Avocado Toast, a Traditional Breakfast and a Barrington Benedict. All dishes were served promptly. There were no left overs. My party was very happy with everything they ordered. Our waiter, Christian P., was very nice, polite and attentive. Great service. This is large space but has customers constantly coming in. I loved the decor. My favorite were the coffee cups they use. They also offer them for sale.
This is a super casual spot with a nice view and a lot of space, but there's no music so the vibes felt a little flat. 6/10. Service was great overall. Our server walked us through the menu since it was our first time. It did take a while to get water while we were already eating, but it was busy so it's understandable. 7/10. The cookie butter latte was just okay, nothing super memorable. 5/10. The breakfast skillet was decent, but I realized I'm probably just not a big potato person. 6.5/10. It came with an English muffin though and that was actually my favorite part, especially with the jam. 9/10. The 1985 burger was average... not the best burger I had 4/10. Come for the English muffin!
We came here after putting our name down at another place, and decided to walk the block to see if there were more options and stumbled upon Egg Harbor. All staff we encountered were kind, and shout out to our server as I had many questions that she helped me through. You can find just about anything on their menu which is a plus. I ordered the loaded potatoes with a side of their homemade cinnamon roll. Both were just ok! Both were equally dry, unfortunately. Even with adding the icing that came with the cinnamon roll, and the melted cheese on the potatoes. My fiance got a breakfast sandwich, which was also just ok. Loved how bright it was inside and how spacious it is! There appeared to be a patio area that seems like it would be hit with nice weather.
(Kari's Rating 9.5/10) I've been coming to egg Harbor since I was a kid, and I haven't been to this location, but it tasted exactly like my hometown suburb Egg Harbor. We didn't need a reservation for two when we walked in around 8:30 AM on a Sunday, but it did get increasingly busier as we were sitting down so if you have a larger party, I would definitely recommend joining the waitlist before showing up. We wanted both a sweet and savory entrée, so we got the Strawberry Crunch French toast and the Ultimate Skillet. I usually expect specialty French toast to be very syrup-heavy and artificial, but the strawberry cream cheese gave it a very light touch, but you didn't have to add any syrup. I don't know if I would necessarily call this a crunch centered French toast as there were pieces of granola, but the overall texture didn't change too much from traditional French toast. The skillet was impeccable, it is the perfect combination of flavor to vegetable ratio while also having the scrambled eggs on top paired with the crispy potatoes. Egg Harbor definitely prides itself on having their potatoes cooked in beef tallow for that extra flavor so they no longer give the seasonal salt they usually do. It was more than enough food for both of us and paired with the buttered English muffin with their specialty in-house made strawberry, blackberry and blueberry jam. We ended up taking home an 8 ounce jar for four dollars! The servers were very swift and on top of it. They're definitely busy in putting in the work, foot traffic wasn't too crazy and everyone seemed very relaxed, it wasn't very loud either. So you could easily have a conversation. As someone is not necessarily a breakfast person, this place was absolutely delicious, I know it's a chain, so don't come for me, but I would definitely get out of bed for this on occasion.
Brunching at Egg Harbor with the gal pals was a whole vibe We kicked things off with apple cider mimosas--sweet, crisp, and basically fall in a glass. Then the feast rolled in: a hearty egg skillet loaded with flavor, fresh fruit on the side, and the cutest little French toast that tasted like warm morning sunshine. I went for the avocado toast topped with fluffy scrambled egg whites and a big bowl of fruit, and every bite was perfection. The whole brunch was absolutely delicious, and the service was so friendly and helpful! Just a heads up--get there early because it's first come, first served and the line definitely builds... but trust me, it's worth the wait!
We had a 10 minute wait on a Tuesday morning, not bad during the holiday season! It's very cute inside with the tile and brick work. Our waitress was very friendly. We ordered a breakfast wrap, you can make your own. Overall, I thought it lacked flavor, even with choosing chorizo and jack cheeses. I thought it needed seasoning, salt and pepper would have made a difference on the eggs. The salsa was watery and lacked flavor as well. The breakfast potatoes were pretty good, but dry so you definitely needed ketchup. I would definitely recommend the pancakes though! They had a good diner-style to them. I also got a vanilla oat milk latte. It was pretty darn tasty! Would get again, or get one to go!
Great food, quality, and service! Only reason I would rank it a 4 out of 5 starts is because of the price for what you get... around $75 fed us (two people). In the suburbs, $75 would feed about 5 people... WITH leftovers. I miss that so much (haha). Getting back on point, I ordered the ultimate skillet and it was good with a side of two mini pancakes. We also had allergy restrictions so it was comforting that they were able to accommodate toward that / not feel judged or rushed or anything negative. Thank you waitress for that! To be fully honest, I don't plan on going back anytime soon but I appreciated the time & wouldn't ever talk bad about Egg Harbor Cafe! We were looking for a good breakfast spot & found this gem. Egg Harbor Cafe is the perfect breakfast spot. We had the Eggs Benedict with house potatoes that had the perfect taste & crunch. The eggs were poached to perfection & the lavender chai latte was made perfectly. The wait was fast, waiters very attentive, and the restaurant while full did not feel crowded or loud. Loved the little waiting area for kids. Price point was also pretty reasonable for Chicago. The restaurant had great views & very central downtown location.
In a town where everything is expensive, highly taxed, and generally snobby (sorry, staying on the Magnificent Mile and unfortunately, that's the general vibe)... this place is a gem! We found our server Jacqui was a refreshing ray of sunlight on a rainy Friday morning. The atmosphere inside is cute, airy and bright. Coffee - the worst part of our meal. It was ok, but not great. The coffee pot needed a scrubbing. Espresso shot - oh, much better than the coffee. And cheaper. Bacado Omelette - This was pretty much the best omelette I've had in the last 5 years. Simple, and oh-so-good. It was a shame that we only discovered this place at the end of our trip; otherwise, I would have come back here this omelette every day. With my keto restriction, I subbed the potatoes with a side salad. Side Salad - poppy seed dressing was delicious. The salad was surprisingly (since everything else was so good) NOT fresh. They were definitely not chopped up that morning as the ends were browning. I'm still giving the place 5 stars cuz the omelette was so good. Matt's Meaty Skillet - good, but hubby was so jealous of my omelette. It was on the salty side, though overall, pretty flavorful. Come back? Of course. And we're all sticking with their omelettes over their skillets. And espresso over their coffee. read more

The omelette was uneventful/- maybe the cheese should go inside instead of on top of it. Ordered jalapeños but only found 2 tiny bits inside. The bad part is the sad fruit salad. All mango. One blueberry. 2 slices of strawberry and a couple of blackberries. Very sad read more

I had one of my favorite brunch in this restaurant with my friend. It's indeed a little gem!! I ordered an egg white veggie omelette and a sourdough toast side, while my friend got shakshuka and 2% milk. Both main dishes were amazing and we liked them. For me, I was at first a bit worried about my dish, as I never had egg white omelette before. Surprisingly, it was out of the world. The egg white was soft and lighter than full egg, and it was packed with fresh veggie. Plus, the tomato mash on the top of it was warm and thick; you can even see some diced tomatoes. It was also served with a side salsa verde which tasted a bit sour, thus adding more flavors to the omelette. Service was awesome as well. Our waiter greeted us warmly and explained the dishes we have question about with great patience. When he found that another stuff gave me sourdough with butter on it by mistake (I opted out butter), he immediately took it away and replaced it with one having no butter. Finally, the cafe was all wooden-style and beautifully decorated. This gave me a "feeling of nature", which really brightened my mood in the early morning. read more

Highly recommend using their waitlist; especially on the weekends when they're busy. When we joined the waitlist it was 45 mins with over 20 parties ahead of us. We used to live in Streeterville but this place was not open at that time. We were in the are fall of 2022 and we had to take advantage and dine in. Food was fresh and the portions were big enough to share with my wife. The coffee is nice and service was excellent too. We even bought a pair of matching mugs to bring back to Texas. They are hand crafted and the logo is so darn cute, zoom in on bean and check out the rooster standing on top. Highly recommend this place. read more

Before coming on this trip I decided to look at different brunch places all around Chicago. I bookmarked this place to try and it was the Egg Harbor Cafe. When we got here the place was busy and filled with people. We waited about 10 minutes to get seated. Our server was super quick with us and asked for our drink orders. During that time they had a special menu which I ordered from. It was the pot roast skillet. I'm a fan of pot roast so I thought it would be a nice hearty meal. The only thing I wish they had more mushrooms in it. The vegetables were quite limited in the meal. But it did have a ton of beef. Also tried the Winter in Italy French Toast. Wow that is some super sweet French toast. I would say having maybe half of that is what you would need. My friend had a healthy breakfast which he did enjoy. Overall it is a nice place to have food at. The menu has many items from sweet to savory. The coffee was just ok. read more

I like Egg Harbor Cafe a lot, and I'm glad they've finally entered the Chicago market since they used to be solely in the suburbs. There have been times when I've gone to Glenview or something just because I was craving them. They have really good juice and their jam is really good too. But I'm disappointed that they've changed their menu! They used to have rosti on their menu, which is a Swiss potato-based dish of which Egg Harbor made a breakfast entree. That made it a bit different from the other breakfast places around, and that uniqueness is now gone. The food was good, but I can get an omelet at one of 50 other restaurants. They do do curbside, though, which is a big deal because I want to grab something on the way to work sometimes but parking here is negligible. The most frustrating part was placing the order, to be honest. I called to make an order, and there was the standard annoying menu, option two being placing an order. But... wait, that just sends me a text with a link?? Not helpful in the least. There is an option to talk to someone which is what I had to do but geez that's really freaking annoying. read more

The food amazing! It was very difficult to pick something because of everything look and sound so delicious. We got three different dish. The traditional meal is always the basic and good. I got a egg salad sandwich with cheese on both side with a tomato slice. It was decent. I wish it could had been better. The avocado toast was good. It had a little sweet taste that I expected. But it was still good. The popping salad with the egg salad sandwich was good, but it just got too sweet with every bite. Im usually not a sweet person. The sausage link was good, it had a savory taste and not sweet! The service was great! The waiter and waitress were awesome! They were quick with cleaning up and always asking if we needed anything else! Great customer services! The atmosphere was nice. It was quiet at 7 in the morning but it got more lively as time came. I was in the mood for breakfast this morning which is rare. I turned to Yelp and started looking up breakfast places nearby. Egg Harbor has an impressive rating so my friend and I decided to give it a chance. Upon arriving, there were many people waiting to be seated. The host quoted us 20 mins for a table. They probably sat us in 15 though so two thumbs up for that! I created my own skillet with ham, pork chorizo and pepper Jack cheese. I subbed the French toast for a biscuit. I also got the brown sugar latte. The skillet was okay. The ham and the chorizo was probably salt overload. I couldn't even finish it because of how salty it was. The biscuit was amazing. Love getting brunch here! It always smells so good when you walk by and the food is just as good as it smells. They have huge portions of your favorite sweet and savory dishes. I'm a fan of their skillets and will usually try to share a sweet dish like their French toast or pancakes. The prices are very reasonable for their portions and the quality. It does tend to get pretty busy during peak hours so there may be a wait! read more

We chose the restaurant based on reviews and proximity. The green iced tea they serve is delicious. I found the ultimate skillet to be kind of meh. It was very mushroom forward and could have used more ham, cheese or onions. Cremeni mushrooms would have been a much tastier option than the white sliced button mushrooms used in this dish. Their homemade jam, while tasty, is much too liquid. It gets absorbed into the muffin and can't be spread on top. Consequently, you need twice as much as you are served. This place is ok. Not a breakfast I'd rave about or order again. read more

This place is beautiful! I come here often as. UChicago student whenever I'm around at the downtown campus. I got their avocado toast which came with a side of eggs and fruits. The service was okay, a bit slow because it was on a busy weekend, but we were able to get a table within less than 15 minutes even though we had no reservation. Overall, great food and great atmosphere. The food was a bit overpriced in my opinion, but this should be expected given the area the cafe is located in! read more

Server was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable Food - great breakfast and lunch options. Toasts, wraps, scrambles, omelets. Interestingly Shashuka(one of my favs) and a signature Habanero Hash with chorizo and accompaniments, I ordered and added avocado. Rest of the table had an avo toast, a meaty skillet and an omelet, so we ran the gauntlet of many items... I've seen people talking about Egg Harbor and decided it was finally time to visit with my friends and OH MY GOD!! It was absolutely incredible, prices were great, the atmosphere was so welcoming and enjoyable, service was incredible (thanks Debbi!), and food was delicious! When we were seated, the water glass did have a lipstick stain on it, but our server (Debbi) genuinely apologized and just delivered impeccable service. Even when I asked to take the rest of the food to go, she brought me extra lingonberry butter, syrup, and lingonberry compote (which was so nice of her as it was scrumptious). I will 10000% be back! Great breakfast! Had to wait 20 min for a table, but ordered coffee and enjoyed it outside while we waited. My wife enjoyed the spicy Bloody Mary with a ton of garnishes with her tasty Avocado Toast. Toast was full of flavor on crusty Sourdough. My breakfast sandwich was full of perfectly scrambled eggs, bacon, and cheese, along with tomato. If I got it again, I would leave off the tomato. Came to get breakfast with my friends for one of their birthdays. We were checking on yelp and were drawn to the amazing pics of food and the high reviews so wanted to give it a shot. The restaurant itself gives a nice spacious small diner vibe. We were greeted right away and seated. Our waiter gave us our menus and came to us quickly. Since it was our friends birthday, we decided to all get some drinks to start it out. we got the strawberry-orange and orange mimosas. Came out it cute glasses but taste-wise, I think it wasn't the greatest hit for our group since most of us barely drank more than half. Could also just be the early morning. For our breakfast, we ordered Avocado Toast w/ over-easy eggs, Lobster Scrambler, Garden Scrambler, Shakshuka w/ side of corn beef hash, Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes and Classic French Toast. Our server also must have heard us mention our friends' birthday because he surprised us with birthday pancakes for her, which was a really nice touch. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The best in our opinion was the Avocado Toast, Lobster Scrambler, Shakshuka and Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes. The corn beef hash fell slightly flat for me, was a bit dry, but was decent once I mixed it with the over-easy eggs. Personally the Cinnamon Swirl Pancakes were quite exceptional but I love cinnamon. They seem to do exceptionally well with their egg dishes and the pancakes. I would definitely want to return to give a shot to some of their other omelettes and pancakes! read more

I really enjoyed this spot. Stayed downtown for a night recently, and the next morning we were looking for somewhere sit down for a hearty breakfast. While Wildberry typically comes to mind, the wife and I were feeling adventurous and decided to try somewhere new. Quick search around the area, and Egg Harbor was very close to our hotel. No reservation needed on the weekday morning. It was almost empty. Staff and servers were all very friendly and welcoming. Food options range from omelettes to skillets to pancakes and various specialties in between. Ended up going with the lobster scramble and carnitas skillet. Both were excellent. Fresh, flavorful, and well seasoned. While I'm not usually an English muffin on the side kind of guy, I'll say it was delicious with their fresh made jam. This breakfast place has a great patio and a large indoor seating area. We were waited on very quickly and the server was so friendly and grabbed our drink order pretty fast. Delicious vanilla cold brew! The joes health scrambler was absolutely perfect. It was filling enough while being served with fresh fruit and an English muffin. The scramble itself was tasty as they used a good amount of cheese with the veggies. The jam was also great!
