I really wish I could say my experience was better. The staff wasn't very attentive, but then again, I came in not understanding the process of where to order or if it was table service or not. I refrain from reviewing Indian restaurants in the city cos I am biased and no place normally comes close to making me feel like home. Definitely not a chain of restaurants. Well, Eggoholic is different. It isn't catered to mellowing it down for a global palette. It welcomes you knocks you down with the flavors and ambience. You think Indian, the last thing you think are sandwiches. Well, not anymore. I dare you, try these sandwiches and you will leave surprised, happy and full. This is Indian food to be honest. The lava pulao and the egg bhurji are rad. Great brunch items and even better hangover cures. People are simple and nice. Not necessarily the talking up the menu kind. If you've been to india it's pretty much spot on with the brand. Great food if you are from the subcontinent and miss home. And for everyone else, this is a great doorway to Indian food. No shade against the superkhana or the wazwans. But this is closer to the real deal and is budget friendly, vegan friendly and overall just friendly. Give it a try. read more

One of the downsides of Chicago is that Indian food is not it's specialty. One of the upsides is that this has created room for a place like Eggholic to grow. This place is incredible! An Indian restaurant crafted for eggetarians. Which means that the best dishes they serve are not the kind of dishes you've come to expect from your local Indian restaurant. In fact, given the heavy focus on eggs, I'm not sure you'd find this collection in a restaurant in India either. The taste, however, is as comforting (and at times as spicy) as any Indian dish you'd expect. Eating here is such a treat. Nearly everything on the menu I've tried satisfies a craving I didn't know I had. This has become a problem, because we can't remember the things we liked most from past visits. And everytime we accidently order something new, it makes deciding the next time harder. Two things I can say with confidence are this: 1) Order yourself an Anda Masala sandwich. This sandwich has won awards for being one of the best sandwiches in the city, and it's clear why on your first bite. 2) Skip the wraps. Some of the dishes we've come to love include the Lachko, the Anda Pulav and the Toofani Curry. We've tried other curries and rice and rarely come across something we wouldn't order again. When it's two of us we order 2-3 dishes. But no matter the combo we get we ALWAYS also get one of the Anda Masala sandwiches. Better to over-order than under-order. Some of the dishes take a bit of time to make. But everything heats up well the next day, so if you have too much, simply take it to go. One of my favorite places for Indian food in Chicago. I'm not lying that every dish I've tried has been phenomenal! I will say I keep going back for the grilled sandwiches. Think of a club sandwich but with way more flavor! You can't go wrong with any of them but start with the paneer masala and anda (egg) masala! Whatever that means. It was two eggs fried over a pile of genuinely spicy.... Stuff. I have no idea what the stuff consisted of. I know it was vegetarian, spicy as heck, and a little crunchy. Indian-inspired sandwiches? Delicious chai at an "Egg" place? Huh? What? Yes - I too was confused and a bit flabbergasted when a friend dragged me here for lunch on a Thursday. However, she had yet to lead me astray (except for one unfortunate incident in Chinatown that led to an unparalleled food poisoning experience) and so I tried my best to be open-minded and excited. Wow, never have I been so wrong, and never have I regretted waiting so long to try a place - because once I had the Amdavadi sandwich, I knew it had secured a place in my heart (and stomach) forever. I don't know what kind of magical chutney is layered into the potato mix, veggies, and cheese, but it is a spiritual experience. My personal suggestion? Add in a layer of salty chips to the sandwich and you're in for an out-of-this-world flavor and texture experience. I've never seen an Indian egg-based street food joint, so I had to come try this place out. Came here with my roommates and their friend, and split a bunch of their popular items. The menu is simple not too extensive, but has a bunch of interesting categories like egg curries, spiced omelette/fried egg dishes, rice + egg dishes, paneer sandwiches, and more familiar chicken dishes. We opted for the lava pulav (egg rice with a spicy gravy and cheese), fried paneer sandwich, lachko (shredded green pepper, cheese, and egg gravy), and masala half fry (sunny side up eggs with a delicious spiced onion/veggie topping). Everything was seasoned so well, with a good mix of savory, spicy, and just rich/fatty enough. As someone who loves a nice Indian buffet, the dishes here had delicious, powerful flavors that are steps above your typical butter chicken or saag (spinach) paneer. My only two complaints were that the chopped onion/veggie topping on the masala egg fry was pretty salty, if it was toned down a bit it would've been perfect. Also, each dish came with only one roti, which wasn't enough considering the portion sizes of the dishes; we had to pay for an extra to soak up all the sauce and finish the egg fry. All in all though, the food was unique, tasty, fresh, and very affordable. If you're a lover of Indian food or just snack-y guilty pleasure food in general, I'd totally recommend giving Egg-O-Holic a try! read more

Had never heard of this place before, but while we were walking by decided to stop in. What a find! We asked the man who helped us what we should get. If you do this, specify what level of spice you want (we asked for mild to medium and that's exactly what we got) We had the Mango Mastani (pictured), samosas, anda pulav, and the Paneer Masala Sandwhich (pictured). Have you ever met a person you disliked at first, but then realized how good she was? A friend and I were driving on Chicago ave in search of a patio lunch spot, and accidentally spotted Eggholic. The patio didn't look like much, but we went anyway, mostly seduced by an easy parking on the side street. We entered a dusky room with a bar taking up most space. The waiter suggested we ordered inside before sitting outside, all lose-lose signs. It was only when we looked at the menu that it occurred to us the place served Indian food. Absolutely fantastic food. Found this place quite randomly and I've been back ever since. Sort of a chain which I count as a blessing because you can get this food everywhere haha. My favorites have to be the Lava Pulao, Anda masala Sandwich and Lachko. Service is extremely hospitable. They even have thumbs up, limca and a couple cool Indian beers like BIRA. First trip to this joint per a friend's recommendation and we liked it. It's a quick service type Indian themed joint, with a twist. The focus at Egg-o-holic is these triple decker sandwiches, which are apparently native to Bombay. I should qualify that... The focus of the restaurant is various egg-based dishes, but we are vegetarians and don't eat eggs, so the focus for US is these triple-deckers. By triple-deckers, basically they look like club sandwiches but they have various paneer and other filling options. First the place and logistics. It's a decent looking place with probably 5-6 tables. Not huge. There weren't very many people there for a Saturday night. I noticed there were a number of delivery orders coming through. So you walk in and order at a counter, they give you a number, and then they bring the food to your table. Nice girl at that counter. Now the nitty gritty... The food: Amdavadi - probably the best one we had and it's kind of like an aloo tikki filling with all sorts of cheesy spreads and what not. I enjoyed this one. Paneer Masala - this was also good. The red masala sauce was good on this one. Paneer Toofani - meh... Not good. It had like an awkward taste, which none of us liked. The paneer wasn't crispy as promised and the sandwich tasted a bit funky to me. Paneer Tikka wrap - not that great, but it's a standard kati roll that you can get at quick service Indian restaurants these days, which the frozen Malaysian paratha and paneer with a masala sauce. It was ok, but wasn't great. It's also a lot smaller than the sandwiches in terms of portion size. Things that could be better... Well, our fist wave or orders took a LONG time to come out. Also, the sandwiches come with a side of potato chips, which is nice, but I think they were skimping a but too much on the quantity there. Plus, it was like... The chips crumbs at the bottom of the bag... But it's a new place and you've gotta give them some time to work out the small kinks. Overall, I enjoyed it and I recommend it. So if you're in the mood for something new / unique in the Indian inspired food scene, I recommend this place. I hope some of the other sandwiches are also good and I hope to try them next time.
